I stumbled across this in the virtual library. It has beautiful illustrations in addition to neat ideas with good instructions. I will certainly never second guess thrifting an attractive scarf again. I can find something to do with it.

Years ago I found this amazing scarf tying guide online, but it has since disappeared (damn you internet!!). After that I found a really good book while checking in a stack of books, but I failed to write down the title like a real goofus. I thought this one might be it, but it's not. There are a few top notch styles in here, but by and large it's just drape and knot. And some of the instructions & illustrations muddled up the process. There's not as much guidance about scarf size/materials as I would like either. I'll just have to keep searching until I find the (possibly mythical) scarf tying guide of my dreams.

This book insulted my intelligence at times. The Lazy Girl? Wrap the scarf around your neck. I really don't need an illustration for that. The babushka? Tie the scarf under your chin. Maybe there are 50 ways to wear a scarf, but with a little imagination, most people can figure it out. There wasn't anything too original here.

Lauren Friedman's book "50 Ways to Wear a Scarf" is a quick how-to read with charming illustrations that definitely changed how I view scarves and how to style them in different ways. Numbered from 1 to 50 in a section called "The Looks" she tells you how to tied them with a series of informative drawings and instructions on a page adjacent to the finished results.
After spending about two hours practicing, with her book, in front of a mirror with my own extensive collection of scarves I felt she should've divided "The Looks" section into "Easy," "Intermediate," and "Advanced" because some versions like "The Bandit" and "The Minnie Mouse" are pretty easy to do, but others like "The Ascot," "The Necklace," and "The Tie" are more of a challenge, and you might need someone adept at scarf tying to help you.
The sections telling the reader what the different types of "Classic Scarves" are and how to store them was very helpful because it will help those interested in building their own collection over the years. Her last section "History of the Scarf" was well researched and brief enough to hold my interest and make me want to do additional research myself. I loved the way she illustrated this section with fashion icons, Queen Nefertiti, Josephine, Amelia Earhart and Madonna too. All in all, this is a nice interactive guide book that provides a lot of inspiration for fashion lovers.

Beautifully illustrated and a quick read

I bought this book because I love to buy scarves but never quite get around to wearing them because I don't know how to. This book illustrates and explains 50 ways to wear all kinds of scarves. I will refer to it often for ideas and hopefully will start wearing my scarves more often.

When I came to US for graduate school, my mother packed at least 30 silk scarves for me. She has always been a graceful scarf-lover. I on the other hand thinks that scarves especially silk ones are too dated for me. Then I start to miss her a lot during the summer of 2014. I tried all of the 50 ways from the book on one unbearably hot afternoon. I love a lot of them. Now I'm still a T-shirt person but I will throw on a scarf when going out. And she sent me more scarves via a friend in 2016. How lucky I am.

I was expecting this book to be REALLY awesome but since I wear all warm scarves, it didn't have as many ideas as I expected it to have for me. However for people that aren't cold all the time, or who wear a variety of shapes/patterns and such, I imagine this would be quite interesting. There were 3 styles that I already wear, 2 that I use that I wouldn't call styles so much as common sense...and 4 new ones to try.

This book features all the ways that you can tie a scarf with step-by-step illustrations. You can wear scarves around your neck, in your hair, instead of jewelry and around a clutch purse. Wonderful uses for scarves for those of us who have only mastered a couple looks.

I got this book as a Christmas gift a few years ago, but just now got around to reading it. Some neat fashion ideas for wearing different scarves, complete with some “how-to” instructions on how to do them. I will probably use this book for a reference or some creative ideas of wearing scarves.

I love scarves and always am looking for new ways to wear them! Lauren Friedman’s book gives 50 great examples of various ways to tie a scarf including quite a few that were new to me. The author includes a history of scarves in countries such as China, Croatia, France, India, Italy and the United States and mentions several people known for wearing scarves: Amelia Earhart, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Jackie Kennedy, etc. Friedman’s book could be even more helpful had she given the dimensions of the scarves used in her step-by-step sketches.

It's fine. The directions are generally easy to follow and most of the ideas are good, but there are one or two which are so obvious they don't actually need instructions. I was hoping there would be more head scarf variations but that's just personal preference.

Disappointing

I had hoped for a book filled with the kinds of scarf-tying information that is available on YouTube videos so that I could have it for reference rather then having to go to the videos. Many of the so-called scarf styles are for head wraps or purse wraps. The illustrations are cute but the material is not worth it. Back to the videos I go.

Fun, quick, and easy read. I really liked the illustrations (though I would have liked them bigger) and sometimes the text was cringey. I've done wardrobe purges a couple times and am now only left with mostly hand-knit or -crocheted scarves. So much for minimalism... Some of the styles I would not have thought of in a zillion years. So, I learned something here!
