After leaving high school, with a hard won diploma and the title of most likely to break hearts, Alexander "Nix" Pierce has left his wild, out of control years mostly behind him. A small inheritance from his grandfather has given him the funds to open up his tattoo shop, Freefall, and he has started to pull his life together. Aside from trying to keep his best friend, Dray, from killing himself in the fight ring, and his slight obsession with a pin-up model he's never met, Nix's life is going smoothly . . . until Scotlyn James, the object of his obsession, walks into his shop.

Ever since a tragic accident killed her family and left her alone in the world, Scotlyn James hasn't spoken one word. Up until now she didn't care that she had no way of talking to people. Her awful aunt would never have listened, and Lincoln Hammond the arrogant, selfish man who pulled her from the streets of Los Angeles wouldn't hear her words if she could speak. But when Lincoln insists she get a tattoo to cover up a scar on her side, Scotlyn meets the artist, Nix Pierce. And now she longs for her voice. Now she has found someone who will hear her.

This series begins with a guy named "Nix" who owns his own tattoo parlor. Nix is popular with the ladies, and he is tattoed and bad ass; just how we like our heroes! Our heroine; Scotlyn has had a very traumatic past. After a bad car accident wipes out her whole family, she is alone and hasn't spoken for years. Unfortunately while she was living on the streets, a man named Lincoln 'saved" her..Really though, his saving her came at a very tall price. He owns her and controls her, so Scotlyn lives a life of feeling like a captive.
Lincoln takes her to get a tattoo done to cover her scar, and once she is faced with Nix, there is no turning back. The sparks fly between Nix and Scotlyn, and she wants to be free from the evil clutches of Lincoln.

This book had a ton of potential to be awesome. I found that it fell short a bit....mainly in the sex department. I don't know if it is meant to be a romance with little sex in it?? But to me a story like this would have been way more enhanced with some sizzling sex!!! Could be I'm just a pervert??? I just felt extremely disappointed when we would finally get to a scene where there was going to be some action....then it was fade to black...Booooo....I say!!! LOL Other than that though, I did enjoy the story, and I loved all of Nix's friends. I can't wait for their stories, so I will continue with this series...My fingers are crossed though, that as the series progresses; the sex will too...LOL

Not entirely sure what to say about this novel. It was pretty okay: it had enough suspense to keep me hooked until the end but....there was a lot that was wrong with it.

First, it needed an editor. Really. Bad. There were random quotation marks that had no purpose other than to confuse people, and then the places that needed quotations were free of them. It was hard to distinguish some of the dialogue. There were other punctuation errors, but it was definitely the quotes that irritated me the most. (And again, the incorrect spelling of the word OKAY . It is a word, not an abbreviation, and unless it is placed in a text, it should not be spelled O.K. and even the the periods are not necessary.)

Second, there were some seriously corny parts. The dialogue needed some work in some of the settings, and some of the plot twists weren't entirely believable/ they've happened so many times that it was cheesy. One of the reviews I'd read before hand compared it to a bad movie that they felt obligated to finish; I wouldn't say I felt obligated to finish "Freefall" but there were some parts that fell like I was reading the script of an iffy movie.

Third, I wasn't impressed with the characters. Most of them I just didn't like. I feel like Cassie--probably the most likable--was only added to appeal to the book-lovers that would obviously be reading this book. I thought Lincoln was a cheesy villian in a cartoon converted to a character in a New Adult novel. Nana was a reproduction of every old person in a novel that I've read (there to create turmoil in the main character's life, but serves no real purpose). Clutch was just stupid and he and Taylor had no real purpose. Dray's only point was to make an appearance to save Nix's ass and look all badass. And the main characters... I don't know, I just didn't love them.

Fourth, the ending was way too convenient. It was like the author just gave up on writing a big climax and just kind of let it flatten out and skip over all the shit that should have been packed with action and suspense. (Shit that definitely would have made the story better)

Fifth, Jesus Christ, Scotlyn was too fucking weak (This probably should be added to my "characters" rant, but I don't care). Nix kept talking about how strong she was, but she was absolutely not. I understand, traumatic events cause bad shit to happen and whatever, but seriously she stopped fucking talking for all those years, and she couldn't even save herself. She had to get someone else to drag her out of her fucking mess on several occasions. (i.e. Lincoln saved her from dying a homeless junkie and Nix saved her from Lincoln.) What-the-fuck-ever. My inner feminist is screaming.

What I liked.
(Yes I did like some stuff).
I liked that the main character, Nix, had already pulled himself out of the bad shit he was into before the novel started and he met Scotlyn. It's seriously overrated for the heroine to have to shoulder all the hero's problems while he breaks her heart (just saying).
I liked that we did get to see some of the guys' stupid drama with women that they knew absolutely nothing about (no matter how cheesy or pointless).

Rating: 2.5 stars. It had enough to carry me to the end without torture, but it had way to many problems to fully appreciate.

4.5 Say My Name Stars

Our names are so personal aren't they. I mean that's a stupid thing to say because of course they are. Our family is really big on nicknames. We hardly ever call anyone by their real name. But I love how my husband and kids have special names for the ones they love. Now imagine if the person you loved could not say your name. Could not whisper your pet name to you. You could never hear your name from them. That's the story of Freefall.

Nix owns a tattoo parlor. Stop...he had me right there. But there is more. Nix takes care of his ailing grandmother and if that wasn't enough he is super hot. Oh, and he has been carrying around a picture of his dream girl for a year. He found a flyer with her picture on it at a car show and has been stashing it in his wallet since that time. He has great loyal friends who want to beat the shit out of everybody.

Scotlyn (seriously great name) had a wonderful childhood until her entire family was killed in a car accident. Now she does not speak. No real medical explanation, she just does not speak. She misses the sound of her own voice and having a voice in her life.

I need the man who can hear me even when I can't speak.

Scotlyn was homeless until Lincoln rescued her. Now he feels he owns her and never lets her forget it. She a long jagged scar from the accident that he wants covered up. So he arranges for her to get a tattoo. You can guess the rest.

This is just the set up for the Meet in the story. After that we get drunken fights, sexy text messages, written notes full of hope and despair, and a wise grandma who remembers enough to give great advice.

Once you realize that you have not lost your family completely because they will always be here...in your heart, you will find your voice.

Scotlyn and Nix have a lot to get through if they want their HEA. For Nix it is just hearing her say his name. But first he must keep her safe and that means getting her away from the rich and dangerous Lincoln.

I will take you away from him.

Easier said than done. Great story. Loved the writing and connection to the characters.

Enjoyable book. I don't recommend it for those who cannot stand cheating.
Although I understand heroine, I didn't like the fact she didn't cut off with her bf before she started kissing and petting with hero.
She was in abusive relationship, she was mute, but I think there is always an escape...
The hero was swooning. He had one little phone of heroine and he was in love with this picture for more than year.... Ahhhhh...
We don't have any scenes with OP. MC both are faithful to each other.

DNF @ 60%

Oof that was boring. The only thing I semi-liked was Nix and the entertainment of Taylor and Clutch, but i hate how Cassie and Taylor are treated so bad from Clutch and Dray. It doesn't really make me root for any of them in their own books, and I hope Taylor and Cassie completely move on with other men before having a hea with these two douches.

Scotlyn was also super weak that it got annoying. I hate how dependent she is on men. First Lincoln, so much so that she lets him cheat on her and treat her like crap because he took her off the streets and gave her a place to stay and she keeps making excuses why she couldn't leave him. She even gets a tattoo just because he says so, and basically does whatever he wants, and lies about it such as agreeing to plan the wedding. Then she becomes dependent on Nix, and gets a job working with his grandmother and my inner feminist is like 😤

I also hate how she started flirting and touching Nix when she was in a relationship with Lincoln. It was gross of her and because i felt no chemistry between the two, it just felt like she was trying to use him. Didn't like her at all.

Safety: up to 60%

Cheating- her bf/fiance cheats on her and she cheats on him with the hero. She also kisses the bf after she already kissed hero. Not sure about more details sex wise.

No ow drama

H was a previous manwhore

I don't think heroine was a virgin🤔

When he's not making art on a canvas he's looking after his frail and dementia ridden grandmother, or trying to keep his friends Dray and Clutch (Jimmy) out of trouble.

Then we meet Scotlyn James

After a horrific accident killed her family and left her alone in the world, Scotlyn James hasn't spoke one word. She's mute.

Their two worlds collide after Lincoln Hammond, the pretentious dick of a man who pulled Scotlyn from the streets ropes her into covering up the scar on her side, which resulted from the accident.

Up until now she hasn't wanted to speak
"My inner sorrow and rage had sucked all my words into my heart, and i'd kept them captive there because there was no one of worth to tell them to
Now she longs for her voice back, to let her words confirm what she's feeling inside.

The connection and chemistry between Scotlyn and Nix after their first encounter is very sweet and adorable. The conversations as unique as they may be, were very easy flowing. They both made my heart squish into tiny little pieces. Scotlyn will do anything to be with him, and he'll do anything to make her his.

The sadness, wonder and love all but consumed me.

Lincoln Hammond came across as a Christian Grey wannabe at times. The power, money and wanting to control his women. Didn't like him AT ALL He was such a cruel bastard.

Dray who's known Nix forever has a knack for getting into one too many fights and ending up with concussions on several occasions - It comes with the territory of a bad background and being a fighter.

 photo tumblr_mc8lgszXi91rf5tx9o1_500.jpg

I liked the story line and the writing was great apart from a mistake here and there.
The characters were nicely thought out and easy enough to connect to.
I also LOVED the shit stirring conversations the boys had. Even Cassie was enjoyable to read.

Scotlyn's journey didn't start off to well, but the change in her was extremely heartwarming to witness as the story neared it's end

The only reason I'm not giving this novel a complete set of 5STARS is based on the fact -

A great short read and only .88 cents! 3.5 stars

"What silence?" I hear every word you write, every word you speak with your incredible face as if you'd spoken the words out a loud. You were meant to be with me, Scotlyn. Not him."

It all starts when we meet Nix. He goes about his life day to day. Owns a tattoo parlour. Lives with his best friend Dray on a houseboat and is constantly worried about his Nanna who has alzheimers.
He also has a photo of a pin up girl in his wallet.
He has no idea why, he just found it a year ago at a car show with his other best friend Clutch and picked it up and put it in there.

We then jump into Scotlyn.
Scotlyn is mute, she used to have a voice until the accident that changed her life. Since that day she hasn't said a word. She lives with her boyfriend Lincoln Hammond, who basically saved her life. He got her off the street, off the drugs and brought her to his ivory tower.
He is very rich, but he is getting into something shady. Scotlyn doesn't love him. He doesn't love her, but yet she feels she owes him.
So with her pen and paper they communicate.
From the accident she has a giant scar that runs the length of her side, Lincoln has had a tattoo drawn up to cover the scar for her.

The worst thing he ever could of done is take Scotlyn to Freefall.

When Nix comes face to face with his pin up girl in his tattoo shop, his world changes.

"I have to have her, Clutch."
"Seems to me she's already taken."
I shook my head. "Don't care. I have to have her."

Nix and Scotlyn start to fall for each other, more and more each tattoo session.

I can finally hear the person who can hear my silent screams.

They exchange numbers so secret rendezvous and text messages are exchanged, so yes there is interaction! It's just all Nix speaking.

"I'm tired of being lost," I type.
"You were never lost. You were just waiting for me to find you."

Getting away from Lincoln is not easy though, they have to be smart about it.
and the story goes on from there...
It's told in joint POV between our H/h we got both sides of the story.
You'll need to read to comprehend the full extent of their beautiful love story that is not based on words, but actions. Feelings.

I do have to mention.. sorry to my smutaholics but there is no sex in this.. There is heavy petting and some fooling around, but the sex scenes? Fade to black... Just thought I should warn ya!

Great secondary characters thrown in, an easy, short beautifully written story. It is a stand alone, however I wouldn't mind Clutch and Dray getting there own stories!

My only complaint?
It ended waaayyy to abruptly for my liking.
The love story, background, setting everything like that was told in detail and over time.

But the ending was just... really quick. EVERYTHING happened at once.

Don't let that deter you though! Go snap it up while it's cheap!

This review and my opinion may be skewed because it was read as a rebound book. The last book I read was emotionally draining and dark, so this was my perfect pick-me-up.

Nix is totally best-bookboyfriend-ever material. He's sweet enough to swoon for, Alpha enough to want to obey, and sexy enough to drop panties for. Then again, I have a soft spot for artists and good men with rough edges.

Scotlyn is an awesome bookgirlfriend. She's smart, beautiful, reserved, passionate and caring. I love a damaged heroine, and mental/emotional issues that manifest physically hit close to home for me.

While Scotlyn wasn't being physically harmed in her relationship with Lincoln, she was suffering an abusive relationship. I think this book touched nicely on how hard it can be to leave a controlling partner, while not turning into a book about abusive and unhealthy relationships.

Supporting characters! Oh, they all just freaking rocked in this one! Dray and Cassie, and Clutch and Taylor were just cool people. And Nana…my heart breaks a little for Nana. I love that she was a wild child.

My only complaint is that sex scenes are glazed over. If you're looking for steamy smut, keep looking.

This book is sweet with a good dose of real so it's not sickly sweet. The guys are a mix up of some rough and tumble, the girls are all their own brand of awesome. I will totally be looking up the next book, and not just for a rebound.

4.5 to 5. I really enjoyed this book. It was a fast read but very well written and developed. it had angst, humor, action and just the right amount of steam. Most importantly it had likeable characters!

Scotlyn is a beautiful woman living a silent life since losing her family tragically. She lives under the rule of Lincoln Hammond her ?boyfriend who controls her every move thus victimizing her more. Left with a scar to remind her of her pain and past, he cannot look at it. His decision is to cover her marred skin with a tattoo.

Nix is a one time bad boy tatoo artist who spends his time with his dementia suffering Nana and with his childhood bff's Dray and Clutch. Nix is haunted by a picture of a beautiful girl he carries around in his wallet.

One encounter in his tattoo shop and Nix has found his beautiful girl...and Scotlyn has found her voice even if it not spoken but written! For once someone cam "hear" her. The immediate connection between these two is amazimg and sweet. I found myself longing for secret rendezvous yet nervously waiting for something bad to happen.

Nix has to have her and Scotlyn has finally found something to fight for, but Hammond will never let her go. Scotlyn has to find her voice to survive. "i will take you from him"....Nix vows to set her free. With Dray and Clutch by his side he fights for his love!

The secondary characters are great...I would love Dray and Clutch to have their own stories esp since I felt a connection to them. This seems like a stand alone book but honestly I really enjoyed it too much for it to end!

Nix (oh Nix) owns a tattoo parlor and is making a name for himself. He lives on a houseboat with one of his best friends Dray(who fights in the ring and has a death wish. Not to forget his other friend Clutch (who always sells muscle cars)
Nix looks after his grandmother who has Alzheimer and life is not easy but when is it? Nix found a picture of a pin up girl and has kept her in his wallet for the past year and can't stop thinking about her.

Scotlyn lost her whole family in a car crash and lost her voice (probably PTSD) Her Aunt took her in and well as she took being religious to a whole new level she ran away at the age of 14 to live on the street. There Lincoln Hammond takes her in and she has moved from one prison to another. Lincoln is a dick (no other way to describe him). He doesn't like Scotlyn's scar and makes her get a tattoo.

Nix and Scotlyn meet and sparks fly this is a beautiful story of heartache leading to love and how a lovely lady starts to free herself of her past with the help of Nix. Since meeting Nix she wants her voice back more and more and well read the book. There is some drama and I was very surprised by this book.

This was such a hard book to rate!

See, I really liked the first 80%, definitely a 4-4.5 star. But the ending.......

It was disappointing. It was set up for action and suspense and a grand ending.....
But...
But...
But...

Nothing...it just kinda of ended, quickly and neatly.

And....

While I really liked the secondary characters, the entire time, I thought they were being set up for a series where each would get their own book, but again, all that suspense and everything for them also ended, quickly and neatly.

I don't know, what do I do, how do I rate it??

After a lot of thinking I decided to give it a 3.5 stars rounded to a 4.
August 10, 2014
THREE AND A HALF TO FOUR STARS!

I really liked this book. Liked the characters, liked the storyline and liked the unconventional idea of a tattoo artist and a mute falling in love. My poor heart was swamped with cutesy feels for Nix and Scotlyn, and as an added bonus, I got to roll in my feels for Nix's two best mates and their respective partners. The storyline is pretty simple and straightforward, but it's this simplicity that made it very enjoyable for me. Also, what I found very touching was the inclusion of Nix's grandma and just how sweet and gentle he is with her. Definitely had me weak in the knees.

Favourite Quotes:
I shook my head. "No, I'm having way too much fun watching you eat it."
A wicked grin deepened the dimple on her cheek. Then with deliberate slowness, she pushed the entire scoop of ice cream into her mouth and drew it out slowly with her lips closed tightly around it.
"Okay, now you're just being mean."

"I miss you," I typed and sent it to Nix.
"I know exactly how you feel," came back.
"I'm tired of being lost," I typed.
"You were never lost. You were just waiting for me to find you."

Tears rolled down my face, and I wiped them away with the palm of my hand. I could cry right in front of Lincoln and it would take him awhile to notice that I was upset. Nix could sense my agony with a five word text. "I just need your arms around me. I need the man who can hear me even when I can't speak."
[...]
"Scotlyn," his deep voice was soothing, and I closed my eyes and covered my open ear to drown out the clamor of the bus. "I will take you from him, Scotlyn," he said with quiet confidence."
"I think about you every fucking minute of the day, and I will not let you slip out of my life. I will take you from him."

And just in case you were wondering from that last quote:

So, why not five stars? Whilst I absolutely loved that this story was pretty straightforward, I thought the ending was tied up rather too quickly and too neatly for it to be believable. But hey, I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt because stranger things have happened. Overall, enjoyable read and definitely looking forward to the other books in this series.

Was the story a tad on the cheesy side and predictable: Sure, but that being said it still maintained a lot of original attributes.

Pros:
* the character depth was superb, even the secondary characters had strong personalities that were relatable
* it had a sweetness to it that can't be denied. I loved how the hero/heroine seemed to truly understand one another - it didn’t seem superficial
* it held my interest the entire time and I didn’t want to put it away until completion
* Complete story, none of that cliffhanger bullshit

Cons:
*it was predictable and easy to determine how it was going all play out
*insta-love
* sex scenes were lacking for me - I wanted more

Overall, I'm really glad I read this story. This wasn’t your typical everyday romance novel, and for that I'm appreciative. I enjoyed the writers style and plan to check out more of his/her work.

How much did I pay: .99

It was a nice story when it was Nix and Scotlyn. I liked both main characters, What I did not like is the side "romance" stories between Clutch and Taylor, and Dray and Cassie. I would have read Clutch's story if Taylor was not the heroine. Taylor is a spoiled little girl constantly seeking attention. She is a tease and came across to me as a slut. Then that last scene

I guess Dray and Cassie were fine, but I just did not feel it and I bought this book to read about Nix and Scotlyn, not about two other couples. Their side stories felt like fillers.

Dara Rosenberg is a great narrator, but I think when the author writes a book with dual POVs, there should be a male and female narrator.

Nix was supposed to be this bad boy, but I never got that impression. Ever. He always seemed like the guy that did the honorable thing.

Also, I did not buy the ending of the story. Bottom line the secondary characters felt like fillers and the ending with Lincoln felt too good to be true.

This book had a unique concept where Scotlyn was a mute. She could hear fine but after a traumatizing accident she lost her voice. Scotlyn was living on the streets when Lincoln found her and took her in. She has a large scar that ran down her side from the accident so Lincoln wanted her to get a cover up tattoo. He took her to a shop where she met Nix.

I had some serious problems with this story. First of all Scotlyn was living with Lincoln living off of him but yet she was seeing Nix. Out of all the I have read I have to say I could accept that easier then usual because as the story went on I saw how cruel and controlling Lincoln really was. I still think Scotlyn was wrong but only on principal. She was annoying and frustrating running back to Lincoln knowing he wasn't going to let her walk away.

As I read I was expecting the story to take off. I was waiting for something big to happen. Nothing really ever did. This story just fell flat unfortunately.

There characters in this book are likable aside from the bad guys. I loved Nix's relationship with his Nana. I didn't see where he was a bad boy at all, actually the opposite. It would have been nice to see more of Diana and get to know what she is really like. What is her life like? Questions kept popping in my head as I was reading this book but you don't really get any information on her.

This was an ok book. I just couldn't find anything special about it and it was disappointing because it had so much potential.

What can I say? It's hard not to love the characters in this book. This book was very easy to get lost in and I loved it.

Nix is so yummy I spent the whole book wondering where I can get one of those. I mean seriously? Is there a shop?

Scotlyn. Poor, sweet Scotlyn. What else can happen to the poor girl. But then I think it would be worth it if your guaranteed a Nix at the end?

Dray and Cassie need a book just cause Dray is such good value and Cassie needs sainthood

Clutch and jailbait need to sort their shit out too. And we all need to read about it :)

In short where the hell are the rest of the books so I can read about them all PLEASE?

This was an absorbing read. Scotlynn is a woman with a very painful past. The past has left her a prisoner in a relationship, her home and her mind; she's mute. Nix is a tattoo artist who is asked to do some work on a scar of Scotlynn's and their draw to one another is instant. This book drew me in so quickly and I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed the twists and turns of the story. I'm off now to find another by Tess Oliver.

Meh...it was ok. Fade to black sex scenes...boooo! No "I love you" declarations! And no alpha-male. I don't think I'll be reading the rest of the series.

I loved this book and I read it in one sitting. I am surprised by how easily this book drew me in even though I am usually a really tough critic of contemporaries. But this book didnt have any of the things that I usually hate about the genre.

Nix was a tough guy character, but he wasnt a bad person and he didnt follow any stereotypes or cliches about tattoo artist love interests. He was serious about his business, his family, and his friends. He had a past, but he was responsible and reliable and not an asshole.

Scotlyn is one of those super tragic heroines like Echo from Pushing the Limits or Nastya from The Sea of Tranquility, but unlike those two, Scotlyn felt entirely genuine. I didnt feel like she was a drama queen, needed to stop whining about her life, or that the author was trying to force us to care about her through sympathy. And the way that her muteness was handled was much better than how it was handles in Sea of Tranquility. Scotlyn suffered a great tragedy, there is no denying that, but she was also a sweetheart, and thats why I love her. She was honest and open and eventually brave enough to stand up to Lincoln. She was like an angel. How anyone could mistreat her I just dont understand.

Lincoln's character seemed inconsistent and I had some trouble understanding him. There were times that he seemed to be truly hurt by Scotlyn's lack of love for him, but how could he try to frickin sell her if he had ever cared about her at all? For awhile there I thought he was just a jerk who didnt know how to express his feelings, like Caroline's husband in The Education of Sebastian, but now? Nope just an all around asshole. I cannot find a way to reconcile the two sides of him.

This books strength is definitely the characters, and that seems to be a trend in Tess Oliver's work. She creates such real and relatable characters. Dray, Clutch, Cassie, and Taylor all feel like family now, and I cant wait to read Clutch. But I also loved the story and the fact that the only thing keeping Nix and Scotlyn apart for the length of the book was Lincoln, not any of their own issues or stupidness. There was no unnecessary fighting between them or maddening drama of any kind. The only secret between them was the picture in Nix's wallet, and when Scotlyn found out about it she reacted rationally unlike so many past contemp heroines. The story was sweet and desperate but succinct. I wish Nix and Scotlyn nothing but happiness, and I hope to see glimpses of that in Clutch.

So I downloaded Freefall not really expecting much from it. The synopsis had a few things that intrigued me, but together I was kind of eh on it. I like tattooed boys, the idea of the girl not talking is great, but the rest of it just was....it just didn't seem like it would be amazing. Unfortunately I was right and it wasn't.

Freefall wasn't the worst book I have ever read or anything, but it wasn't good. The main issue? The characters. So Scotlyn hasn't spoken since the accident that took her entire family from her. She was raised by her aunt who was super religious and not very nice, then lived on the streets and Lincoln saved her. So now she is stuck with Lincoln, doing whatever he says. I don't really know why she stays though. She knows she is not happy and that she does not love him, so why does she stay? I think you are supposed to feel like she doesn't have any other options, that her hard life has made her weak or something, but I didn't get that. I don't really know why she hasn't tried to learn sign language or do anything for herself. It didn't make sense. It is not like she couldn't, or didn't believe that she could. I think you are supposed to think that, but the way the character was written I was just like what is your issue? You hate this and want to get out, so why are you not trying to get out? You seem fine, you seem like you could if you wanted to do something besides think about how much you dislike Lincoln. I mean what do you normally do all day? What have you been doing all day? Sitting around doing nothing? It didn't make sense to me. I didn't get her character. So she cannot talk, she should still be able to do things. I have read plenty of other books, good books, where the main character doesn't talk. They are not just reliant on someone else to do everything for them. They manage to have a life themselves. I just didn't get her.

Then Nix. He has had a rough past, but he saw a flier of a pinup girl once and has kept the picture with him ever since. When Scotlyn walks into his tattoo shop he is instantly in love with her because she is the girl from the photo! They start having a relationship kind of even though she is seeing/supposed to marry Lincoln! Of course Nix wants to remove her from the situation she is in and have her stay with him until she can figure things out. It was just...the characters weren't believable.

So of course everything blows up at the end and the way it is all resolved was really lame. Like really? It is that easy? Okay. I just...it was just a not very good story. If Scotlyn would have been weak, more vulnerable and unable to do things for herself, it would have been better. Still not great, but at least I would have understood her more. The writing was just not the best. I went and looked and apparently I have read quite a few books by this author and all of them were just eh for me. I need to remember this for the future.

Scotyln hasn't talked since the accident nor has she had any desire to even try talking. Thanks to Lincoln she's no longer living on the street but living in his big home with his money isn't making her happier either. However, she doesn't think anyone will hire a mute girl with no skills so her only option is Lincoln but he's not a bad guy just seems to have gotten into something darker. When he decides to get a tattoo to cover her scar from the accident she meets Nix who may just be what she's been missing.

Nix has carried around a picture of a pin-up girl for over a year but hasn't seen or heard anything about her till she blows into his shop with her boyfriend who wants to cover her scar with a floral tattoo. The connection is instant and Nix isn't going to let Scotyln get away. While she may be mute they instantly forge a connection and is determined she came into his life and was meant to be his.

I like Scotyln right from the start she's sweet but had a rough life which has forced her to do whatever it takes to survive even taking up with a man she doesn't love. You can't help loving Nix he's taking care of his nana who is getting older with memory loss. Plus he's also taking care of his best friends when the need arises. They have this sweet instant connection Nix and Scotyln if only Lincoln wasn't standing in the way.

Freefall has been on my kindle for years picked it up as a freebie but never got around to reading it. I instantly fell in love with the main characters they are easy to connect with you can't help cheering them on as they need each other. Freefall is a fast-paced hard to put down story. I just had to know what's going to happen next and I needed to see them get together. Highly recommend if you like broken characters finding a happy ever after.

Reviewed for: Where the Night Kind Roam

There is nothing memorable about this book. While I was reading this book I had put it down for some sleep and when I woke in morning I had forgotten that I had even started the book. I was already halfway through at that point and I had to really sit there and think about what book I had started and what it was about. Now I know I dont have the best memory but it's not that bad. The character development was lacking which makes it hard to care about the characters or even remember them. I don't have a clear picture of Nix or Scotlyn but i do like her name. Scotlyn didn’t seem to have much personality and I wondered why Nix was even into her so much. I knew he was attracted to her, but where did all the emotion come from?? And the whole ending was just like really?? That just happened, so unbelievable. There were no repercussions of what went down? That all can't happen with that neat and tidy of a wrap up. I highly doubt I’ll continue with this series which is too bad it had a lot of potential.

4.5 stars...

I devoured this book!! This was a random book I found through BookBub while it was free and I barely read the description and I don't think I read any reviews, but I just had a feeling I'd like it. You can't really go wrong with tattoo shops and characters who are deaf and/or mute (I don't know why I love them so much, I just do) IMO. Around 75% I started wondering why it was rated so "low" (it was at 3.85 which isn't necessarily low, but I've definitely read books with higher ratings that I thought were much worse). As I read the reviews I was like "huh I guess so" and "yeah, that could be frustrating", but for some reason even though I couldn't deny the "problems" people had with the book, they just didn't seem to bother me. I didn't notice any of it until it was pointed out, I just had fun with it and really enjoyed it. I loved all the characters and I even liked the random side stories. It was sweet, a little angsty, and definitely had me laughing out loud quite a few times. So even though it wasn't perfect I can't help feeling like this...

I enjoyed this book a lot. Nothing spectacular about it, just good storytelling and enjoyable characters. Freefall is the name of a tattoo parlor where most of our cast hangs out. The main hero is the tattoo artist who for some time has kept a pinup picture of a beautiful girl folded up in his wallet. He has no idea who she is and is totally surprised when she walks into his tattoo parlor one day with her wealthy boyfriend to get a tattoo to cover a very ugly, large scar running down her body. She is also mute. They both feel an instant connection, he being able to figure out what she's feeling even if she can't express it in words.

There's lots of drama surrounding the rich boyfriend (the relationship wasn't going well anyway), the hero taking care of his grandmother with dementia, and the hero's other friends who all seem to have relationship issues themselves. A very nice read.

I thought this book had a really neat premise. Scottlyn is mute she isn't deaf. She had a trauma in her like that has left her silent. She is living with Lincoln because he saved her from the streets. At first I thought it was a little unfair of her to take advantage of him but you quickly see who is actually using who fast. Lincoln was really cruel and hung out with unsavory characters who eventualy put Scottlyn in harms way. So she meets Nix who is doing a cover up tattoo on a scar she has. The connection is crazy fast because he's been pinning for her. Won't go into details about that too much. I really liked Nix and Scottlyn together they were really cute. The side characters were cool I liked them I will probably read Clutch's book. Only problem was I like my books with a lot more steam in them. This was a lot of fade to black type scenes. But hey what can I say I'm a horny gal! lol ;)
