Roth
From the moment I first saw Brady, I knew he was my mate. He thought I was just his imaginary friend and I let him believe that because at his side, I felt more complete than I ever had before. I didn’t mean to ever leave him, but I didn’t have much of a choice. I may be a Prince of Hell, but my father’s rule is absolute and out of his fear that I will someday overpower him, he had me imprisoned when I was just a child.
But, I was freed.
Rescued from where I’ve been held for far too many years, the only thing on my mind is claiming Brady as mine. I have lingered in the darkness without him for so long that seeing him now is like a breath of fresh air, but he’s starting to change. My father may have worried about who I would become, but it’s my mate he truly should have feared.
He is beautiful.
He is terrifying.
He is mine.

Brady
As a lonely child, Roth was the only thing I could count on. It didn’t matter that he wasn’t real, my imaginary friend was there when I needed someone. Roth meant everything when nobody else would let themselves get close to me. When I got older, he disappeared as make-believe things are supposed to and I put childhood behind me, moving on into a career on the runway as a sought after fashion model.
But Roth is back.
He says he’s a demon and I am his mate. We were created for each other, he tells me, but there are beings conspiring to keep us apart. They’re scared of what he will become when he claims me, but they should have feared me instead because I am no longer the lonely little boy I once was.
I am loved.
I am powerful.
I am his.

Brady sounds ungrateful af, And The middle of the book has no sense of direction its like the author of the book don't know what to do with Roth purpose and just try to write, The dialogue someyimes felt cartoonish Although I do love the dramatic fight scene at the end I could put it visually on my head lol.

I just finished Drop Dead Demon by B.Ripley, and it was a sweet paranormal adventure.

If you're looking for a story with fated mates, demons, a trip to hell, kitten hell hounds, childhood best friends turned to "I will rip the flesh from your bones and end your bloodline if you touch what's mine", both virgin mcs, and a whole lot more -> than look no further.

If you enjoyed Lark Taylor's Reckless Damned series, then you'll like this one, too.

From a very early age, Brady had an imaginary friend. Roth was his only friend. Brady was just too different, and people never wanted to get too close. Roth visited him, and they read comics together and dreamed together with talks of the sea and Popsicles and seagulls. One day, Roth stops coming, and Brady imagines he's just grown out of imaginary friends.

Spoiler alert: Roth is a demon and very real. He stops visiting his mate because [redacted], and now, 13 years later, they are together again. But there's a time limit because: Lucifer and a prophecy.

This was a fun story with very loveable characters. If you're in the mood for a paranormal romance, then look no further!

Brady & Roth

This is another interesting story in this multi-author series. Although it does get a little slow in the middle, I couldn't help but get sucked into the story. I could also see this being a part of a separate series with Milo and Creed getting stories as well.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

This was fun

I can't tell if I genuinely like this or if I've just been so disappointed in this multi author series that this sparking the smallest amount of joy in me feels much larger than it actually is. I'm going to go with the former because the ladder makes me sad.

I had a lot of fun with this, I really did. I thought it was imaginative, the world building simple but still interesting, and the mystery wasn't spoon fed to us but still had enough clothes that if you wanted to solve it you could. Have Roth and Brady be swoonie and possessive over each other and you got a winner. That's all this book really needed to do.

I do think the smut could have been better and some consistency with a dialogue would have been nice. Specifically with Roth. There are times he talks like eternal demon and others he sounds like a dude in your college dorm doing laundry at midnight on a Wednesday. Milo gets a bit of a pass since he spends a lot of time with humans but Roth didn't make a whole lot of sense.

If you started reading the series because you were looking for a possessive demon/ mate like I was, this book has it. You won't be disappointed. It's a fun read with a cool world that pays homage to the traditional lore of Hell and demons with some flare of its own. It's a solid read so four stars.

This needs an editor. I’m not a native speaker and that book had so many typos and grammatical errors that I noticed.

I honestly expected more from this book. It was mediocre. Not really bad but also not overwhelmingly good.

I saw the twist about the prophecy from miles away.

I expect there will be at least two more books in this universe. The ending kind of teased them.

Drop Dead Demon by B. Ripley

ARC REVIEW

Drop Dead Demon is part of a multi-author series, Possessive Love, but can be read as a standalone.

« fated mates »
« demon x human »
« best friend’s brother »
« virgin MCs »
« first times »
« childhood friends to lovers »
« hurt/comfort »
« HEA »

When Roth, who is a demon and prince of hell, and Brady, who is a human, were just children, Roth starts to appear in Brady’s room at night. They form a strong friendship over the years. Shortly after their 11th birthday, Roth disappears. Let’s just say that Roth was “banned” from returning to see Brady at the hands of Lucifer. Brady believes that Roth was simply his imaginary friend. Imagine his surprise when Roth appears back in his life years later.

“You have always had my heart, Brady Schiff. Since the moment I appeared in the corner of your room, I have been yours and you have been mine.”

I enjoyed the different approach to fated mates in the story. Often when fated mates meet, they just accept each other and fall in love almost instantly. While Roth has known Brady was his mate from the beginning and has always been in love with Brady, this is new information to Brady. Brady doesn’t just accept Roth and allow him to claim him. He takes his time to consider his choices and to get to know Roth as an adult. He doesn’t really like his choices and feels like his freewill has been taken from him. Since he has a fated mate, no one has been able to touch him without flinching away from his touch. His choices are basically to be Roth’s mate or to be alone, which really isn’t much of a choice is it? Instant love doesn’t happen for Brady, but rather takes time to grow as the couple gets to know each other again.

“You are better than all of them, you know,” I whisper, as he reaches up and strokes my horn, his eyes radiating love into mine. “You always have been. Do you believe me?”

“I am better than them because I have you, Bezeroth."

Roth sole purpose in life is Brady. Brady helps Roth see that Brady can’t be everything to him and he needs to find joy outside of their relationship. It was interesting to see the sweet Brady turn into a bloodthirsty protector. Brady will do anything to protect his mate. Brady is more powerful than what people give him credit for as he is “just a human.” Roth thought that as the demon he would be the one protecting Brady, but he isn’t threatened by this, he is almost smug when Brady is underestimated and protects Roth.

I enjoyed the character development in this book. We get a good sense of who the individual characters are, even the side characters. I loved them all! I hope Creed/Nor and Milo/Kazmaeus get their own books! I felt like the whole story was not predictable and even was surprised which is a new change from the books I have read lately.

We can’t forget the spice. Brady prefers Roth in his true demon form which is all kinds of HOT. There is something so hot about monster/human romances, especially when tails come into the mix – big fan! There is also pleasuring venom as lube and dirty talk. With the chemistry these two have, you would never guess they were two virgins!

This book may be my first by B. Ripley, but it won’t be my last! It was a pleasant surprise to find out the author is Canadian. As a Canadian myself, I want to support more Canadian authors.

love the beginnings and main characters

Rating: 4.25🌈

Ripley’s Drop Dead Demon is another good installment in the Possessive Love collection.

It starts with a familiar thread about a young boy , a toddler, in an impoverished situation . His young mother needs to work so leaves him alone in a poor hotel for long periods of time. He’s scared and unhappy until out of the dark his imaginary friend comes.

Usually in other books it’s an adult but here, what emerges from the darkness is a little being the same age as himself.

What a great idea and way for the narrative to go forward.

Both Brady, the human, and Roth, the demon, interact as children at the beginning of the story. While Roth has more knowledge about what Brady is to him, he’s still a child, and he’s listens to Brady with a child’s heart, however otherworldly.

That Ripley lets us meet them at this stage makes the next step in their journey even more painful.

The narrative necessarily moves ahead in time to Brady as a successful model.

What happened to Roth is something I’ll leave to the story.

Ripley does a good job reacquainting the main characters with each other but there’s so much else going on, that it’s pushed back to make page time for other elements to be addressed. There’s a prophecy, a demon brother for Roth who’s been “topside” for years with a sudden dramatic backstory to deal with, and Legion , an entity who is literally a cast of thousands.

Somewhere, our main focus , the bond between Brady and Roth, starts to get a little bit fuzzy.

When the story pulls back towards them, it refocuses our connection to the characters, their relationship, and the perils they face.

There’s several twists that Ripley has in store for the readers and characters. A few were, I thought, bittersweet at the end but realistic given the damage done. One wasn’t as thought through or as well executed as it seemed. A all powerful being that couldn’t fully set everything right or destroy the one thing that set things up? I wondered about that.

Anyway, I was left with a few questions about the overall storytelling that I felt was unresolved at the end.

But the relationship, the main characters, how it all began? Wonderful. And so many other smaller things that made this a really enjoyable read.

Wow! This book is such a captivating read! The main characters are written so well, you'll fall in love with both of them. Roth's child-like curiosity of the world, and Brady with his battered and lonely take on the world, complemented each other so well. These two have a lot to work through but they get there in the end, together.

I am so impressed by how this book was written and constructed. We got years worth of backstory told from both characters point of view, which I loved. Sometimes when POV's keep switching, it's not always done well, or can get confusing. But! That didn't happen here. The dual POV's really made this story stand out and added another depth to this really incredible book.

The way B. Ripley wrote these characters, you are bound to connect to each and every one of them. Not just the MC's but the phenomenal side characters! I adore Milo, he's Brady's best friend and Roth's older brother. I really enjoyed learning more about him throughout this story. Creed was another great side character! I adored his closeness with Roth, and how both Roth and Brady wanted to keep him.

I was so shocked by who the 'bad guy' actually was! And to think, that person was under their noses all along. So as far as the mystery component goes, the author nailed it!! This book has great world building, wonderful MC's, a fantastic supporting cast, and terrifying sounding creatures that Brady somehow compares them to cats.

I really hope we eventually get Milo and Kazmeus's story at some point, and hopefully soon!! I want their story so bad!

This book was truly incredible, I highly recommend you go get yourself a copy!

Spice: 🌶️🌶️
Tropes: human x demon, fated mates, prophecy, mystery
Review:
Given the kind of stories I had come across in this series so far, I was rather surprised at how this one played out. This was probably the most plot heavy of any of them, and I really enjoyed reading about not only the characters and their stories, but also the lore and the magic and how things worked in this version of hell. Brady is an interesting character, and I really appreciated the amount of emphasis on how fate plays into free will and consent. Roth is really such a precious demon, and I really enjoyed the whole prophecy aspect, and how it ended up playing out. Roth's brother Milo was also another interesting character, and I found it interesting seeing the lie that he was fed and how it played out into the plot as well. I also really enjoyed some of the information we got out of the twist at the end, in particular with regards to Milo and a certain other 3 characters. I appreciate that 2 of those 3 other characters didn't have some kind of miraculous recovery from their states, and we see them trying to adapt but still struggling. It really lends itself to its own series following Milo and these other 3, and I would be happy to read about those. This is definitely a fated mates and possessive story, but I appreciate how they were not your typical of either of those tropes, and I enjoyed seeing how it all played out, and how Ripley managed to take a new angle with it.

I loved every second of this story.
Both of our protagonists know each other from childhood as Brady thinks Roth is his imaginary friend.
The "problem" is that he is not imaginary but very very real and after years separated they reunited finally.

The plot was well done and it was not what I was expecting, which was even better. I love how Roth all life is just to be with his mate, no matter what. To the point where he has to learn to do something with his life that is not linked to his mate haha.
Brady was a good character too, I really enjoyed his evolution through the story.
I was really captured by the all "being one / becoming whole" thing. The reaction of Brady was real for me, very human.

The author really manage well to built the difference between thinking like a human and thinking like a demon. Yeah human have emotions and doubts where demon goes straight to the point haha.

The side characters stole my heart as well. Milo & Creed are living free of rent In my head for sure. I really hope they will have their own story, they deserve it.

Well if you want a sweet love story with an epic prophecy this book is for you. Especially if you love mating/claiming, the scenes were perfect and I loved the fact that it needed to be done by both of them ;D.

This story follows Brady, who as a child had an imaginary friend visiting him in his room. The friend turned out to not be of the human species, but still they got closer and became best friends. Until he stopped visiting. Which led Brady to believe he outgrew his imaginary friend phase.
Imagine his surprise when he comes back years later as a man.
I loved the premises and the universe this story took place in. I’m a sucker for monster romance and was super intrigued by Roth and his story. Bit by bit we learn what happened to him and why he stopped visiting his friend. The story development was okay, although I would’ve wished for some more depth at times. I felt like there was potential for more and it only scratched the surface. And though I liked the story and the characters, it didn’t evoke the emotions I usually get while reading. I wasn’t really invested in their relationship and found myself skipping paragraphs, which I hate. I really wanted to love this story! But I think it was a me problem and not a book problem. Because there wasn’t anything wrong with the book, so maybe I just wasn’t in the right mindset.
I’m intrigued about the other characters though and would love to read Milo’s and also Creed’s story.

I hate that I picked this book up when I did. I had so many things going on this week, and this story was SOOOO hard to put down! I ended up reading it a couple pages at a time because I was picking up my kindle any free second I had. This was my favorite of the Possessive Love series so far, and the only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because there were quite a few typos left and that's something that tends to bother me

The story was really complex, but the author did a fantastic job with the world building. I never felt lost or really even wanted more background, which is something that can happen pretty often with me especially when reading paranormal. The main characters were great, and I enjoyed the secondary characters as well. There's the potential for a couple more books if the author wanted to make this into a series.

While romance plays a big part in the story, there is a lot more to it than that. There is a ton of heat and plenty of found family. The ending took a turn that was not what I originally expected, and there were plenty of things thrown in to keep readers on their toes.

This is the first book I've read by this author and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wish it had gone through a little more editing, but the story and characters were fantastic.

I thought this was a great story! Brady and Roth are mates, Roth knows this when they are children and visits Brady at night as his friend. As he gets older his father, Lucifer, fears how powerful he will become and has him ‘locked away’ and Brady doesn’t see him again for quite some time, believing him to be an imaginary friend. When Roth makes his return it comes under a time crunch: he needs to claim Brady as his mate before Lucifer sends demons to try and return him to Hell.

I loved all the characters and this world that B. Ripely has created. The magic (for lack of a better word) was different than other demon books that I’ve read, which I always appreciate. I figured out the riddle but not entirely, however I think it’s designed that way. I did not see the plot twist coming at the end, although I did have some suspicions but could not base them in fact so they went nowhere. So congrats on that!

I am very excited to see if there will be more books from this one, I need Milo and Creed’s stories!!.

Overall this was a pretty good story. Good plot, decent pacing. I enjoyed the demon/human fated mates aspect. The story goes back and forth from Brady and Roth's perspective.

Brady is a lonely child who's only friend is a demon named Roth. Brady assumes Roth is an imaginary friend due his loneliness. Roth is always there until he isn't (for reasons). Brady becomes a highly successful model until he spots Roth at a club. He's hesitant and in denial that Roth is actually real.

Once Brady accepts that Roth is real (and a demon) he finds the answer to a question that always kept him in a state of loneliness. They both fight through challenges to be with one another. The plot twist at the end was appreciated due to it being different. Along the way you sort of see it coming, but not fully.

I'm really interested in a story following Creed and Milo (two side characters). It's a pretty good story that's low on angst (for me) and the characters get their HEA.

I loved the fact that we meet Brady as a young boy left alone while his mother works who finds comfort from his imaginary friend Roth. Roth, however, is far from imaginary, he's a demon who knows from the first that Brady is destined to be his mate. As Brady grows up, he finds nothing strange in the fact that Roth isn't there any more because it's natural for imaginary friends to disappear as one grows up and moves into the adult world. The choice by the author to start things off when Brady is young has a massive payoff here, because Roth hasn't gone because Brady had grown up, there's another, much darker reason he's gone. There are lots of plots and schemes going on in both the human and paranormal worlds here and plenty of surprises. When Roth and Brady are reunited, sparks fly again, their bond remains as strong as ever and that means they'll ensure they aren't separated again. Loved how this book made me sad for the young Brady and Roth and had me rooting for them all the way in adulthood.

4.5 stars, rounded up. This had WAY more substance to it than I expected, with some world building that feels like it's setting up for a series of its own (which i would totally be here for, btw!). If it hadn't been part of Possessive Love, I definitely would expect to see . It was definitely a fun ride I wasn't expecting, and while I generally prefer my demons to be more demonic than Roth turned out to be, and the way he was written - not through the author's lack of skill but as kind of a natural result of his made me feel slightly less invested in him as a character, I didn't hate the twist with

From the moment demon Roth saw Brady he knew he was his mate. As a child, he thought Roth was just an imaginary friend then Roth had to leave him as his father imprisoned him fearing he would take over from him. After being freed it becomes clear that his father picked the wrong mate to worry about - Brady is beautiful and terrifying. Brady had been a lonely child but Roth was all he could count on even if he wasn't real. But as Brady got older Roth disappeared like all imaginary friends should and Brady started his career as a runway model. When Roth reappears Brady knows he is loved, powerful and his.

I found this story had to get into as there was too little interaction between Roth and Brady that was real enough that I could relate to. I also found the interaction and involvement of Milo to be a little surreal too. Legend was just surreal. It was easy to read, I just didn't feel or enjoy it very much. This is an MM story with mature content.

Drop Dead Demon by B.Ripley
Possessive Love, multi-author series

"Beneath the glow of the silver everlasting moon, on top of the tomb of our enemy, my mate, my love, my purpose, and my best friend leans down and presses his lips against mine, and I am lost to the warmth of the soul we will always share."

From the time Brady and Roth were born, Roth knew that half of Brady’s soul was the match to his. They were meant to be together from the moment Roth’s father pulled him out of the blood river. Created for each other, fated. Roth thinks he is the one to keep Brady safe from the machinations going on below, but maybe Brady is who the Devil himself should be afraid of.

I absolutely loved this book! The world building and attention to detail was mesmerising. I’m really hoping Milo and Creed get books too!! 🙏🙏

Roth and Brady each have half of a soul and together they will be whole. This was really interesting as Brady believes Roth is an imaginary friend, especially as Roth stops visiting after a while. Roth is actually a demon who has been banned from visiting Brady. I think the character development was really well done and I loved the side characters (who I hope also get a story). It was fun watching Brady, who's usually a very passive and soft character, turn into a feral, bloodthirsty thing! There's a bit of a twist and the pacing for me felt right on track. Even though there are sparks right off the bat, Roth gives Brady the space he requests. Overall, it felt a tiny bit darker than another that I read in this series but does fit the possessive love. I'd recommend this one for those looking for a bit more of an intense romance between the main characters.

Drop Dead Demon

Soo good! I’ve never really been into the paranormal genre. But it was B. Ripley and I’m pretty much down for reading whatever she writes! I do think though that I chose a great book to break into the supernatural with!

Brady was a lonely kid living with his momma! At 7 years old he meets Roth (who thinks Brady is the coolest thing since sliced bread!) Brady longs to have friends and to feel like he belongs! When he realizes that he is better then them all (Roth’s words not his) things start to look up!

Roth is a demon and knows he has a mate but at 12 years old he’s helpless to go against his father and ends up not being able to be with his mate for a long time. But there was a promise made and it wasn’t broken. I’m so glad he gets what was his!

B. Ripley wrote the thing and I absolutely adore Brady and Roth!

Drop Dead Demon is a fantastic fated-mates love story, mixing sweetness with great obsessive/possessive vibes.

The story starts off with Brady as a lonely kid with a creature who he thinks is his imaginary best friend, Roth, but is actually his fated mate. After Roth is trapped in hell for years, he finally returns to earth to find Brady an adult, working as a model, but lonely as hell because nobody can get close to him. But can Brady accept that not only is Roth real, but he’s also a demon and the one meant for him?

This was my first read from this author, but it won’t be my last. This story was sweet — I loved the connection between Roth and Brady, and how Roth was there for Brady when he was a lonely child. But as adults, their love burns hot and fast, and while Brady is reluctant to rush into things initially, external complications from the power struggle going on in hell push the two together. The path to their HEA is perilous but perfect. Definitely recommend.

Most of soulmates book I read only spoke of the mystical or magical part of being made for each other. This book presented with another beautiful theory of sharing one soul and not feeling complete without the other.
Roth and Brady do complete each other beautifully, and at the end, give each other what the other needs. Their story is well built , over many years, from childhood to adult age and this immerses the reader from the start with the growing characters.
No spoilers here, but the side characters deserve their own book, and the plot is surprising with a good twist and gasp when it unfolds.
Overall recommend it and look forward to reading all about Milo and Kazmeus !!.

I absolutely loved these characters. They were incredibly well written. It's such an interesting premise - that what one MC thought was his imaginary friend growing up was actually his demon mate. The timeline payoff on this (because it starts when they are children/playmates) is absolutely worth it, because when his 'imaginary friend' disappears about the time he would normally outgrow it, we see on the other side that it's actually for a more nefarious reason. It gives Brady time to grow up and mature before Roth searches him out again. The way that they are pulled apart in their youth is so heartbreaking.

Buy this book, read it, you won't regret it!.

Fated

I loved this book and the characters in it!
It has demons and fated mates and is mixed with an engaging story that makes you want to see what will happen.
Roth and Brady (demon and human) are made for each other and Roth has been leaving hell to see Brady ever sine they were kids. Brady on his side has always thought that Roth was an imaginary friend and thought he just outgrew him. In reality Roth hasn't got a choice and can't make his way back to earth until they are grown up.
Now they just have to get to each other again, mate and fight against the powers of hell to be happy.

I really hope there will be a book for Milo and another for Creed.

I've had the pleasure of reading B Ripley's Haunting with a Ghost, but went into this one blind, not remembering that until looking it up afterward. I was simply blown away by how good this story was, how it swiftly, completely, grabbed me & drew me into its clutches, not relenting until the last page was devoured. Enthralling plot, enchanting characters & settings, loved the twists & turns, and how the HEA was epic, yet still evolving. Superb storytelling, great romance, conflict, resolution, hope, love & home, it's all combined into one amazing mm paranormal romance that I hope to see more of in the future. Fantastic!

4.5 ⭐️ for this book!

This book was amazing! I would of given it 5 stars but there was quite a few typos and things like that which took it a half point down 🤷🏻‍♀️

Other than that, I loved this story 😭 Roth and Brady together as kids was the sweetest and then seeing what happened to Roth at such a young age broke my heart. They fought hard to be together in the end even if it took years to find one another again. I hope I get to see more
of these characters someday.

Love a good demon human story. This was a great spin of the something creepy in my bedroom. This was about to lonely “kids” finding each other, and in that friend ship came love. I loved the writing and love the turn of events. The smexy was yummy and had what I love in claiming stories. The side characters were great. I’m wondering since this is a multi author series will we get more from Creed and Milo? Hope so.
