This was a freebie that popped up on my Goodreads feed the other day so I snagged it. It was free. The blurb sounded good, I wanted some steam and overall I figured I didn’t have anything to lose except some time. I didn’t hate it but I for sure didn’t love it.
First and foremost I will state if you are going to include animals in your book you need to treat them right. That means, they need to go outside even if you are broken hearted and never, ever do you just not come home. If you aren’t going to care for your animals in the book why include them at all?
Ok, that kind of really bugged me. Back to the review. I don’t like to leave bad reviews of books but do like to state my opinion. I just didn’t like Beth. I didn’t understand where she was coming from. It wasn’t until the very end that we learned what really happened in her past to make her who she was now but it just didn’t add up for me. So, not liking the main character makes it a little bit hard to like the book. I felt so bad for Jake. I don’t even know why he put up with what he did or how he did. The steamy scenes were pretty good and for a freebie I guess that makes it worth it!
There were many times during More Than One Night when I wanted to add this to my DNF shelf, but I powered through, mostly because I just hate to give bad reviews and I wanted to find some redeeming qualities in it. Unfortunately, I hated this book and I hated Beth so much.
This is Beth: "How could she have forgotten about her dog? It wouldn't hurt to leave her alone, but she hated to do it." It could, in fact, hurt to leave your dog alone for 24 hours, considering that you should not have a pet if you do not care enough to feed her and take her outside. Beth is despicable. I can't even count the amount of times I wanted to bang my head against the wall because of her. Not only about the dog thing, but also because all she does is push Jake away and act like an idiot.
Now, about Jake, I could tell he was a decent guy, but it's just downright creepy to hire a PI after a one night stand and then when he finds out where Beth works, accost her in a dark alley. I just really hate stalker behavior in my books, and you can't tell me that he couldn't have tried to learn something about her before getting her into her bed if he was really as interested in her as he said.
The timing of this book also seemed off. I can't shake the feeling that the characters don't really know each other well enough for what happens.
3 mostly all Jake stars I won this book and truly appreciate the author having donated the book for the games. Its no secret that I prefer M/M books...I have a hard time with majority of the lead females these days and quite unfortunately I could not stand Beth. I wanted to...she started out rather promising actually, but her thought process and decision making caused one cringe-worthy moment after another. Beth and Jake meet and go home together for a one night stand, or so Beth thought. Jake tracks her down after she slips out after their ultra amazing-multiple orgasm-filled night. Beth does want him, but she's afraid. Of everything. The whole time. Now, getting glimpses of what she went through as a child, I understood her fear. I get the need to stand on your own two feet, the importance of independence and not losing yourself to a man. Totally get it. Having said that, the way she handled stuff made it incredibly hard for me to like her. I think around 80 percent I was telling Jake to run. Jake, with the exception of the above-mentioned issue, I liked him. He made a few errors, but don't we all. He was hot and sweet and though I agree with Beth about the bill thing, I wouldn't have reacted like that. I felt badly for him, he put his heart out there and she repeatedly stomped on it. Not in a mean, vicious way, but those true knife to the heart type things. The sex was pretty hot. It was pretty frequent.
I liked this book, ok so the plots not a new one, self made millionaire meets hard working waitress/bar tender in a club.
But the characters were well developed, Beth has big issues stemming from all the rich boyfriends her mum had while she was growing up, putting a wedge between her and Jake right from the get go in her mind.
Jake is such a great character, hes worked hard for his wealth and wants to share it and his life with someone real, who he can have meaningful conversations with not just someone who wants him for his money and who will look good on his arm. Jake in a genuine nice guy, you cant help but like him.
Beth frustrated me at times when she kept walking out on Jake, i wanted to give her a shake and tell her to open her eyes, to really see this great guy who keeps giving her chance after chance to be with him.
Overall this book is a great easy read, the story flows well and is a good romance, there a little bit of sex but its not written graphically if that not your thing.
Easy going, short read, no surprises with the plot or the characters really, but the writing was pretty good, and who doesn't love a HEA.
Only thing that bugged me, was the constant use of the word "pussy", there are dozens of other words out there that can be used to describe the female fun palace, would have been good if some of them were utilised, just to mix things up a bit!
I really enjoyed this book, Thank You Marie for Gifting it to me.
Jake is a self made millionaire and Beth is a Middle Class Bartender up to her eyeballs in debt with her Mothers medical bills. Beth is out with her girlfriends for a few drinks when they get on her for not having sex for 6 months and then dare her to ask the handsome stranger at a nearby table to dance. I loved the easy going interaction between Beth and her girlfriends, it was so much fun that I felt like I was at the table drinking with them. I also loved the lighthearted interaction between Jake and Beth when she was't afraid that she was going to wind up like her mother. Beth and her mom had a hard life and Beth uses that as a shield to protect herself from being hurt. This was very close to a five star read for me, the only thing holding me back is that I wanted more, I would have loved an epilogue showing them a little further down the line; Maybe when Beth meets Jakes family, or when they have a family of their own, just a little bit more.
It was a light and quick read. The characters had great dynamic and the relationship flowed naturally and wasn't rushed. Beth, who had a rough childhood, grew up with many insecurities and trust issues with men. She didn't want to be dependent on a man for his money like her mother. Jake is a self made entrepreneur. Beth and Jake had instant attraction for each other and made a connection on their first night. What I like about this book, was that Jake never forced Beth whenever they took time apart. He allowed her space and time so she can see how she needs to open up in their relationship and learn to trust and love him. Jake loved Beth's independence and simplicity. It never bothered him that she was a bartender I also loved the fact that this book took place in my hometown of San Francisco. =)
This was a pretty good story. I liked Jake a lot. He was a great hero. Beth was a nice woman and I liked her for the most part but she's one of those heroines that has her mind so far up her butt that she makes a number of stupid choices that were annoying after a bit.
Beth didn't have a good childhood and it affected her greatly. Her father left when she was very young and her mother went from man to man trying to find one to take care of her. Since her mother didn't find decent guys, they didn't tend to last long and usually left them in a bind at the end of a relationship. Beth had to live with the consequences of her mother's actions as they'd go from luxury to a homeless shelter very quickly and in her mind, Beth blamed her mother for not being able to live without a man taking care of her. Beth swore to herself that she'd never rely on a man and the few men she's dated have reinforced that. Now Beth is unwilling to trust any man and sees them all as the enemy.
Jake was an orphan but was lucky enough to get adopted by a good couple that loved him a lot and gave him a good life. Jake made it through college and ended up doing great things with video games that turned him in to a very rich man with his own company that's still going strong. Jake dates some but hasn't found the right woman as he wants someone that will love him and not his money.
The night before her 30th birthday, Beth is at a bar with her friends. She sees Jake and her friends try to convince her to ask him to dance. In the meantime, Jake sees Beth and sends her over a drink. It's pretty much a love at first sight thing for them both but where Jake is interested in exploring things further, Beth is adamant about not even giving him a chance. Between her friends encouragement and Jake, Beth is convinced to have a dance with Jake. The dance goes so well and affects her so much that Beth can't help herself and agrees to spend the night with Jake. They have a night of very hot sex but in the morning, Beth wakes before Jake and (determined that he'll wake up any time and throw her out) she leaves without a word to him so when he wakes she's gone. When Jake wakes up, he's happily remembering the night they spent together and looking forward to spending more time with Beth (and asking her on a real date) but he finds her gone and has no idea how to find her. Jake decides he's not willing to let her get away and hires a PI to track her down. Beth, in the mean time, has been missing Jake and wanting to see him again but is trying to control her mind and forget about him because she's determined that he'll just be her ruin if she let him in her life and she's determined not to become her mother. So when Jake shows up at the restaurant where she works as a bartender, Beth is unwilling to give him a chance even though it's obvious that they both have it bad for each other. Jake has to work hard to get Beth to agree to see him again. He manages to convince her to give him 24 hours and if she seriously doesn't want to see him again afterwards he'd leave her alone. They set it up for the weekend and in the days between, Jake sends Beth sweet little gifts to make sure she's thinking about him (in a good way).
When the day comes, Jake goes to pick up Beth and her dog ends up coming along with them. This is actually just one example of how nice a guy Jake is and he shows his colors through the day, not taking advantage of Beth's come-ons and instead spending the day getting to know her and spending time doing non-sexual things. It actually goes pretty well and they have a really good time together. At the end of their time together, Beth is unable to say she doesn't want to see Jake again and he doesn't give her the chance, saying he'll be in touch. Beth thinks he doesn't mean it and is surprised when he shows up at her work the next night. They continue to go out but there are issues along the way and they all revolve around Beth's "issues". Jake realizes pretty quickly that he loves Beth but knows he can't tell her because she'll just run so he sets out to show her he's there for the long run by actions not words. Beth does manage to mess things up a few times badly enough to cause them to take a break from each other. Every time this happens, Beth is all crushed because she knew this was coming, even when she caused all the issues herself through her inability to trust. Jake does all he can to weather the tides and does pretty good at it. To be honest, where Beth was annoying at times, Jake was just about perfect. He wasn't willing to let her go but he would back off at times when it became clear Beth had hit a blockage she had to get past on her own. Thankfully, the last time things blow up, Beth's friends come and show her the light and Beth finally realizes she's been an idiot and goes after Jake. Although I didn't necessarily think much of the method she used to get Jake's attention for their final reunion, I liked the fact that she finally took the initiative and went after Jake so they could be together for good. They make up and talk things out and then start their HEA together.
This was a pretty enjoyable story. Outside of my annoyances with Beth, I liked the characters (especially Jake) and the story was very good. I'd recommend this story (if you can deal with a headstrong heroine that doesn't always make the best choices). :)
This book was just okay. To be honest it was just a struggle to finish. It’s rare I pray for a book to end but with this one, every page was one too many. In fact I read this awhile ago, and couldn’t even make myself write this short review until now.
Beth and Jake suffer insta-love to the max. Though in all fairness I think it’s more a case of insta-lust from Beth’s side. Beth has a bad history when it comes to relationships. The last thing she wants is to jump into another one. After one thing leads to another and an awesome night of sex later, Beth is ready to move on. Jake however, is not done with Beth. In fact all Jake can think about is, you guessed it, one more night and many more like it. When Beth disappears the morning after, Jake will stop at nothing to make her his and find out what made her run. It was so very common to many other books. Add to the fact there was nothing overly special about it other than the blurb states and you get a very straightforward and concise plan from Jake’s POV to get the girl… Ooohhhh…..
There was just nothing special about this book. Nothing over the top or dramatic to catch my attention. It was just simple, to the point and it was a struggle to finish. Even the connection between the two felt more like a sizzling fire rather than an inferno. One word sums up this book perfectly B-O-R-I-N-G because I couldn’t take more than one page.
Another freebie download that unfortunately promised a bit more than it delivered.
Firstly as a pet owner I have to say that Beth's rather cavalier attitude at times towards her dog, especially leaving it overnight on its own with no access to an outside area, really, really annoyed me!
Having got that off of my chest the rest of the story was ok - nothing sparkling or spectacular - some fairly hot sex scenes but that was it. It was a fairly quick read following a rather overused format - single female with emotional problems, one night stand, mega rich kinky man who decides he wants more than one night. Get the picture?
Because I hate not finishing a book unless it is so awful it makes me cringe or is so badly written/proof-read/edited that I find myself wanting to email the author/publisher and ask which monkey decided it was fit for public consumption I got through to the end but, I'm sorry to say, it's not one I will read again and I will think twice about reading anything else by this author.
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review. This was an awesome quick read. I loved the characters and the story. I didn't want to put this down. Definitely recommend.
This book has some intriguing scenes, starting with a ladies' dare at a bar, a very interesting scene outside another bar (where Beth works) and a confrontation later on, toward the end. I like how the confrontation between the two characters is built up and ignites when Jake's very dominant, get-what-I-want, protect-what-I-love personality clashes Beth's I-need-to-be-independent (for very good reasons) personality.
The characters are believable... and likeable. Not only is this book hot, it's a page turner. Fresh and engaging.
Boring Bartender girl goes out for a night with her girlfriends who think her sex life and life in general has become to boring. A bet takes place as to whether or not she would carry through the first one night stand of her life. In walks a rich boy swanky man and the bet is on. What she doesn't know at the end of this night is that she's the only one with a plan of just one night. After strong romantic persuasion books ends with a happily ever after. Short book though read the whole thing in one afternoon sitting.
It was good, but not great. It's wasn't one of the books, for me anyway, that you just can't put down. I liked how Jake was a self-made man but wasn't one of those arrogant, self absorbed a** holes we're all use to reading about.
Now Beth, she got on my nerves, which is why I only gave 3 stars. She went off on Jake over really stupid stuff. We all have baggage, but over sleeping in her bed? Really? Thank goodness her BFF Carla was there to smack her on the back of her head!
I got this book for free off of Amazon. I like this story and I wish it was a little longer. I love that Jake knew he was going to keep Beth in his life. Beth had her moments but I can see how her past would effect her and her relationship with Jake. I loved her gesture to him at the end, it was perfect.
This was a very interesting storyline. I loved the characters (Beth and Jake)...Beth is a very independent woman(I love that about her) but even an independent woman needs love. JAKE MASTERS DID FOR HER!!! He broke through her independent exterior (eventhough he loved her independence)hand showed her love ...letting her know that it's okay to be dependent. I LOVED the plot.
Lovely romance story. A one-night-stand so fabulous it will never be forgotten. A billionaire in love. A working girl (bartender) swept up in this romance and her dog Rosie. What more could you want from a romance story. Kick off your shoes, lay back on the sofa on a rainy afternoon, and enjoy a story that will make you feel good.
Loves this book, and fell head over heels for Jake! I only wishes there had been an epilogue to show a bit further into their HEA. No cliffy, easy read, full of chemistry and steam, and the angst is non assistant. I'll have to check out more books from this author.
Really good light and sexy read, enjoyed this story, really loved the dynamics and chemistry between Beth and Jake and the sex scenes were hot, will definitely check out other books by this what my better half said! LOL
I got this as freebie and read it. Its not a long story and had so much potential. The characters were good. The problem was it could have been so much more than it was, It almost seemed hurried. Its a quick light read that has some angst.
Picked this up as a freebie on Amazon....what a awesome little find:)) Really enjoyed the storyline and I thought it was well written!! The sex was hot and the romance was great. Would definitely recommend!!!
A quick light read about a young woman having to overcome the fear of following in her mother's footsteps when it comes to bad relationships before accepting love. Some hot moments but not a lot of action otherwise. A pleasant enough read.
I won a copy of this book in an event hosted by a wonderful good reads group. This story was well written and captured the main characters insecurities well. Fun and sexy romance with a happy ending .
