Sheriff Jake Langley is juggling too many things. He's raising twins, locked in a custody battle, and his housekeeper is missing. He needs an administrative assistant--or a wife. What he gets is an imaginative but misguided nanny who creates chaos in his home and lust in his heart.
Lucy Outlaw wants to set the journalistic world on its ear and prove she's ready for prime time...just as soon as she finds a job. In the meantime, she can't resist a temporary position taking care of Jake's darling twins, especially since she's long worshiped the sheriff from afar.
When a local developer is found murdered near the Blackbird Reservation, Lucy is determined to cover the story, even though Jake is equally determined to keep her out of danger--and out of his heart. Can Jake win the battle? Or will he discover the real victory lies in loving Lucy?
Ann’s hometown is Ann Arbor, Michigan and she is a graduate from the University of Michigan. She spent ten years as a reporter for three daily newspapers in Michigan and, not surprisingly, she wound up married to a journalist and moving with him to the Washington D.C. area. Although a hard-news reporter, she preferred to write features. She especially enjoyed writing a column about her first year of marriage (I Did, I Did) as it allowed her to dispense with strict accuracy. She has written for the Washington Post about her harrowing experiences as a substitute teacher and a little league umpire. Ann's passions, in addition to reading and writing, include her grown children, tiny grandchildren, dogs, friends, spending time with her recently retired husband, avoiding housework and naps.
Lucy Outlaw has a way of having catastrophes happen when she is around. It’s not like she intends for it to happen, it just does. She knows Sheriff Jake Langley is questioning his sanity with having Lucy be the faux nanny for two weeks for his twins, but she has tried her best in everything she has done. So what if there was an incident at a play, or that there are some dishes tuna is not meant to be in, she has fallen for him and only has two weeks to get a feel for what it would be like if she was really his wife.
Jake shouldn’t be having the feelings he has for Lucy, she’s too young for him. He can’t help it if his libido disagrees but he needs a wife to stop meddling grandparents from trying to get custody of his kids. Even though he has fought it tooth and nail, he realizes he is going to marry Lucy. Now he has to convince Lucy to be his bride, if he doesn’t muddle it up along the way.
Jake is the sheriff of the town. He is raising twins and involved in a custody battle. Lucy rubs him the wrong way and they have this sort of love-hate relationship, but his twins adore her.
Lucy intends on setting the journalistic world on fire. She is covering a murder against Jake's strong warnings and puts herself in danger. She is a major irritant in Jake's life and he really fights his attraction to her. She is a lovable, free spirit and does whatever she feels she should to advance her career.
Will he ever understand her and give his feelings a chance?
I'm not a fan of this story. Neither characters knew each other yet they are in love. Jake avoided Lucy like the plague so how could they have even a friendship let alone a relationship. It seems too old timey as well. I think the story has a lot of potential but it fell flat in my opinion.
