The Book of Saints: A History of Saints from the Time of Christ to the Present Day

Rate this book
The Book of Saints presents the lives of a select group of extraordinary men and women -- apostles, virgins, martyrs, monks, mystics ... royalty and peasants -- who, as varied as they are, all share one trait: they lived lives of heroic virtue in absolute, unswerving devotion to their faith.

Why are saints important, and what can we learn from them? The book answers these questions with exciting hagiographies and breathtaking artwork featuring more than 150 saints from around the world, including such dependable familiars as the Blessed Virgin, Saint Francis of Assisi, and Saint Therese of Lisieux, as well as new saints like Saint Katharine Drexel. Special features also give closer looks at a wide range of topics such as Miracles, the Archangels, and Pilgrimages. A truly unique compendium of some truly exceptional lives, The Book of Saints is a timeless reference work to delight clergy and laity alike.

Contains the backgrounds of various saints including color reproductions of artwork relating to them. There are short essays on monastaries and pilgrimages as well as a list of major religious orders of the West. While only a cursory work, it is a useful reference.
