The McHugh and Monroe families have been at odds for over ten years.
Neal McHugh, a college student, working as a server at a sushi restaurant has been trying desperately to get out from under his father’s thumb. He refuses to work for his father’s company, and becoming the person his parents are trying to force him to be.
Drew Monroe, the black sheep of her family, is an employee at the local adult themed store. With a witty attitude and covered in tattoos she is far from the vision her mother had planned out for her from the moment she was born.
Drawn to each other from the first time Drew eats at Raw they are completely unaware of each other’s family backgrounds. Can they withstand the family drama, or will their parents succeed in being able to put a stop to their growing relationship, and get Neal once again focused on the life he is supposed to lead?
Raw is book one in an interconnected series. No cliffhanger, with a HEA ending.
I am married and the mother of a 5 year old son and an 8 year old daughter. I love to read and write. I also love dogs, cats, flowers, wine, dirty martinis, chocolate, sushi, family, friends, tattooed men, rock music, rock stars, laughing, video games, horror films, and the list could go on and on.
I write because I love to create characters and make stuff up. I just hope that the readers enjoy my stories as much I as enjoy writing them.
My books are available on both Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com.
If you prefer using a different e-reader I'm currently looking into other publishing options.
Raw is a modern day Romeo and Juliet, only without the suicide at the end. This is a very different book than anything I've seen on the market. Neal is not your typical male romancer. He's not a tattooed, rock star, or an alpha male. In fact, he's the boy next door, but there's something so inherently sexy and so appealing about him. Drew is not your typical romance heroine. She's tattooed, pierced, foul mouthed, and utterly loveable. Neal and Drew by all accounts should NOT work. They are polar opposites and when does the "boy next door" date the rebel? I mean really? You will find yourself completely captivated by this unlikely romance. It's so sexy, and you will completely fall for Neal. Raw has drama, romance, angst, sex, crazy families, and some Louisiana "hot sauce". This is one book and one series, you will not want to miss!
The quest for “MORE” by a powerful and very dysfunctional family. The determination to hang on to a piece of family history and heart strings by another very dysfunctional family. Will their feud reach new heights of hatred and deceit, when their children find a tentative interest in each other blossoms into the kind of friendship and love that has a future if they can only hold on? Raw, by Solange Poirier is a modern day version of an ancient theme, the battle of love and independence versus greed, power and control, a battle that should NEVER exist within the bounds of “family.”
Neal has grown up being groomed to take over the family “empire.” What his family wanted, he did, not as much out of lack of backbone, but because he didn’t grasp that he had a choice. His first act of “rebellion” was to move out on his own, support himself and taste the sweetness of freedom of becoming an adult. He is the coverboy for clean-cut, honorable and vanilla, the kind of young man any mother would want for her daughter.
Drew is the family rebel, covered in tatts, beautiful, free-spirited and unafraid to speak her mind to anyone. Raised by a mother who is demeaning, hateful and always disappointed in her and a father who hasn’t the backbone to stand up for his daughter and protect her, Drew has built a protective shield around her that sends off “Do Not Tread on Me-Or Else,” vibes. Will their attraction to each other be tainted and brutally destroyed by their families or will their hearts become the conduit that cements them in the first honest relationship they have ever had?
Solange Poirier’s Raw is exactly that, a tale that will leave no one unscathed and raw; not the characters or the readers. Prepare to feel for the underdogs, despise and pity the parents who should never have been allowed to procreate. From start to finish, there is high angst, high tension, sweet romance and monsters lurking in every corner trying to tear Drew and Neal apart. Love from the past may be the only savior for these two. Ms. Poirier has penned a tale of young romance that will rivet you to each page and every secret.
I received this copy from Solange Poirier in exchange for my honest review.

Oh...where do I begin???? Let me start off by saying that I absolutely LOVED this story. I was addicted! The characters and story line are well developed and made me feel like I was a part of the book. I don't think I've read a book that is anywhere near like this one.
As I read this book I got sucked in... I wanted to know Neal, I wanted to be Drew, I wanted to beat down Emily, I wanted to have a friend like Candi... well I think you get the idea. Neal is not an "Alpha Male" like most books I've read - he's a server at a sushi restaurant and just a very nice lovable guy that you can bring home to meet your parents. Drew is not the normal "sweet girl in love" - she's a girl that has pushed boundaries and rebelled against her family; she speaks her mind. They are polar opposites, yet that somehow works for them. I think the difference is what made me fall in love with them and pull for them during their low points and be happy for them in their high points. They have a connection that I could feel as I read the book.
I beta read this book and I can't wait for it to be published so I can read it again! I'm looking forward to the rest of this series as well. Oh and I think I might try sushi now. :)
A tale as old as time. Two family's at war with each other. Good and evil? Foolish pride? Petty drama? Or could it be all of the above? Ms. Solange paints a very vivid picture of a classic Romeo and Juliet scenario. Only more modern, edgy and simplistic. The realism of the story is just one of the reasons this author captivated me and did not disappoint!
The story follows two family's, the McHugh's and the Monroe's. Just as in Romeo and Juliet we have two main characters that should not fall in love, but do anyway.
Meet Neal McHugh. He is every parents dream for their daughter. He is a poster boy for clean cut, innocent, respectful, honorable and true. Raised to take over the family legacy since he was a child, Neal never viewed he had any other choice. As most in his situation he just thought that's they way it was. That is until he made a bold choice to move out on his own. He discovers the pleasures in adulthood. He finally feels the freedom in taking care of himself.
Meet Drew Monroe. She is an outcast. A rebel in her own right. She's labeled as the black sheep of the family. A beautiful, out spoken, free spirited woman covered in tattoos. She's not what her mother thought she would grow to be. Because of this her mother is demeaning, hateful and down right nasty. Her father is no better. A man with no concept of child protection. A fearful man who hasn't the courage to stand up for his daughter. Drew is not your typical "Juliet" stereo type character. That's what draws you in. Her personality immediately makes you fall in love with her and want to be her.
These two characters are complete opposites. I know they say opposites attract, but these two are like oil and water. Fire and ice. There is no way on earth that these two should work, but they do. Their differences balance each other out. Their connection is there and strong even as they fight it throughout the story. Inevitably it was meant to happen.
With the family's at war and the odds stacked against them. These two take a journey filled with resentment, backlash, drama and so much more.
The author has done an amazing job with this story. She turned a classic theme into a modern day, realistic, edge of your seat page turner. I could sit here all day and give you spoiler after spoiler. Give Ms Solange compliment after compliment and continue to write about this amazing story. But I won't do that. If I did then you wouldn't read it for yourself. I can't deprive any of you the pleasure of reading this book! I highly recommend you add it to your reading list today!! 5 stars Ms Solange! Bravo!!
Neal has known Emily his whole life, he got her a job at RAW Sushi Bar as a favor to her parents so she can pay them back. He is really regretting getting her that job. Drew goes into RAW every Sunday to read and enjoy her time for herself. Neal hates the way that Emily stares at Drew. He tells her and another waitress to stop staring and do their jobs. Where Drew works her boss likes to have them show as much skin as possible.
Drew works at Plethora, always sits in Neal's section at RAW. She is the black sheep in her family. Has Tattoo's and Piercings. Neal wants to be with Drew and he is planning on changing his major from Business. Has a tattoo, he has been working at RAW for two years to help pay for his schooling. He comes from a rich family. Emily is Neal's friend, wants to be more than friends with Neal. She is spoiled Rotten. She has a lot of trouble keeping a job. Candi works with Drew at Plethora. Drew's best friend since high school. Drew's parents don't like her. Naomi is Neal's older sister, she is married and she wants to see Neal happy.
This book is an amazing read. This book is a fast read and I found it very hard to put down. I loved how well this book is written and how well the characters are very well developed. I loved that I felt very connected to the characters. I can't wait to read more books by Solange.
As I said, Raw had a Romeo and Juliet type vibe, but not really, when you read it you would now where I was coming from, I am not going to go into detail about the plot because it is so entwined that it will spoil your reading experience, and I enjoyed the heck out of it this story, it's an awesome read and I loved it and I want you to do the same.
I do want to tell you about these two amazing characters I met though. So we meet Drew, the so called 'black sheep' of her family, I liked her instantly, she came across tough but she was a big softy really, our Drew girl had lots of tattoos, piercings and acted and dressed how she liked. Ok so now we meet Neal, who honestly I thought was a little weak at the beginning of the story and thought, he was going to be like a door mat, but Neil shocked me and I ended up loving him, he showed his soft side but holy moly he showed me an alpha personality as well, towards what was going on around him and the way he was with Drew, and I thank the Author for that because her words cemented his actions and felt them right to my heart.
I know this is the first in the Ambition Series and I don't know if the next book will follow Neal and Drew some more or it will be about new characters, but I can't wait. This is an awesome read friends, I hope you enjoy it as much as me. Reviewed for HeadTripping Books by Carolyn
this book was a modern day tale of romeo and juliet. i fell in love with the story pretty much straight away!could not put it down!it left me gripped and wanting the HEA to happen! i loved how the characters were so drawn to each other but still kept fighting it! thanks for this opportunity! it was a true pleasure!
This was an received complementary copy for an honest review and I reviewed on behalf of 2 girls who love book reviewers
This book pulled me in from the start and had me absolutely captivated. It will pull at your heartstrings and have you laughing at the same time. The characters are well developed with some background info. The side characters are great also and I'm hoping that some of them will have their own book in this series. It's a book about families against families, mother's and father's planning their children's future without considering their happiness and those same children going on to live their own lives and finding love and friendship. I don't want to go to much in detail about this book because it's one you need to read for yourself to feel and learn all on your own. This is the first book I've read by Solange Poirier and I really want to read more. I would definitely recommend this book.
