This latest book in the "Photography and The Creative Process" Series offers readers the opportunity to engage in a selection of timeless and thought-provoking articles previously published in LensWork, but many now long out-of-print. The 203 pages of text are organized in three important sections: Being an Artist, The Creative Muse, and Productivity. This book goes beyond useful; it is truly a "must read" for photographers who are committed to their craft.
Wisdom from an experienced artist is what you'll get from each essay. Very few images to guide in this book; the author is not concerned with showing off his stuff here but in guiding the reader down a steady path of contemplation on how to nurture motivation, steadfastness, consistency, and creativity in our photography.
Looking to cure yourself of gear acquisition syndrome? Eager to make images that draw and keep the viewer wanting more? Want to spark or feed your inspiration? Plenty here got me thinking while serving as stepping stones for practical action.
part commentary and part inquiry on photography, and full of wisdom & common sense, this book will be one of those friends i will fall back on. as a photographer and an ardent admirer of Lenswork, i deeply appreciate brooks jensen's philosophy about the art of making photographs and folios. this book takes one through that process, asks pertinent questions and consistently makes a simple yet strong case on the need to approach the photographic arts in an unbiased, dedicated manner. a must read for all photographers.
This could be core book in the study of photography. Filled with well thought out ideas about photography as art, the author challenges one to think about what we do as photographers, in addition to offering his guidance about doing the work of being a photographer. A valuable read.
