Napoleon’s attempted escape from Elba necessitates The Earl of Ashmoore abandon his search for his kidnapped friend and return to Paris. His only hope? To trust in a dangerous but lovely creature he will summarily execute if she is, indeed, the enemy.
The mysterious Highland Reaper will not be thwarted...
From the back of a black stallion, Blair seeks redemption for her past sins. But the tall, dark Englishman stands between her and the people she is determined to save. And if she can't slip his grasp, she might lose her very soul—or worse yet, her heart.
This had a lot of historical depth. And the story line was interesting. They were both of a certain temperament. Interesting. The romance was good and clean
I liked this second book much more than the first in this series. The first book was more a light read. This second book has better developed characters and story line. Onto the third book!
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, Blood for Ink, & was thrilled with the second book! The plot & characters were a pleasant surprise to me, though I knew the Earl of Ashmoore from Book 1 & I really liked it. Ash (Earl of Ashmoore) & Sochia aka Blair Balliol were a great pair, romance on & off - trust & not - truth & lies, - it was quite the journey. There was a lot of action - killing of bad guys, some really funny banter & situations that had me LOL. I enjoyed the secondary characters & maybe romance in the future between Martin & Sarah & a Scarlet Plumiere for Stanley, Viscount Forsgreen (soon to be Duke). I am so glad I found L.L. Muir, she has such a knack for drawing you in to her characters & always has stand out scenes with the main characters - things you remember long after you are done with the book. I highly recommend this series to all historical romance readers - NOTE: There are no sex scenes if that makes a difference but the interaction between H & h in the first two books was enough for me & I finished not wanting anything more.
How often we read novels with Napoleon and the war in France mentioned. This is along those lines of sorts. How about the men who fought there, kidnapped for ransom. Something a bit different. Throw a Scots woman in the mix and you have a rather intriguing story. This was one, and a very enjoyable experience to journey with the characters.
Bones for Bread has a decent enough plot but is so riddled with errors - syntax, typos, dropped words and confused homonyms that it's beyond distracting. Either the writer needs to go back and retake English 101 or the editor should. Better yet, both of them!
This book was fantastic! Delving deeper into the France connection from book one, and following Ashmoore to Scotland was an excellent way to continue the series. I can not wait to see which of the four kings will fall next!
So happy that Ash has found his love. Great story writing … kept me on the edge of my seat until the very end and everything fell together… love the brotherhood and the humor of the four kings
I kept getting distracted and bored in the first part of the book. I finally skipped to the last quarter of it to get to the end. Even the ending was drug out.
I didn't think I would like this read. But I was so wrong. It's like Julie Garwoods' novels. I like how slippery she is. And though she was more action than Ash did...well Scottish women are suppose to be strong. Aye? How I just go and look for the first one along with the two after.
I started with her Ghosts of Culloden Moor series, moved on to the Muir witches, and the rest of Ms Muir's wonderful stories. I began this series because I ran out of her books, and at first, I was not sure if I'd like the main characters as they are English lords. However, 2 books in and I LOVE the Four Kings! Now I have yet another one of her series for which I must wait for more stories! Write faster!!! Pleeeease... :)
I love the strong women in this series. I fell in love with Ash in the first book and I am happy he has met his match. Tolley, the Scottish butler kept me smiling with his little antic. A very good read. I am going to find the 3rd in the series.
Blair is on a quest to save her brother, but to do it, she needs the help of the three Englishmen who seek their friend. Though attraction flairs between herself and the Earl of Ashmoore, there is no time for romance as necessity draws her back home. The earl never forgets the fiery Scottish beauty but when he finds her, will they find love or will an enemy from the past destroy the chance for a happily ever after.
The first book of this series had me hooked from the start and I was excited to see how Ashmoore's story would progress. Honestly, while this was enjoyable, I didn't enjoy it as much as I would have expected. There were several times I just couldn't put aside my own disbelief and kept thinking, "Really? Am I supposed to believe this?"
It begins two years before the start of Blood for Ink, and we stay there for about a quarter of the book. This made me feel like it ought to have been the first in the series. Only, then we hop ahead to the events after Blood for Ink, so it made the narrative a little disjointed. I'm not sure what I would have changed about the story but something just wasn't right.
I didn't love Blair as I did Livy, but she was fun. She kept to her beliefs and did what she thought she had to do. I didn't much care for the romance between her and Ashmoore, since it didn't seem to have any weight behind it.
Still, it was a nice way to spend an afternoon. I have book 3 on my kindle, and I hope I enjoy the rest of the series more than I did this one!
I read this after I fell in love with Blood for Ink. This was not quite as good, but still a very enjoyable read. I missed the vastly intimidating Ash from Blood for Ink. Sure, he makes a few men shrink in fear, but there were many more who didn't find him as shrink-worthy. It's a shorter book. The author did so much with every page in BfI and I think I just missed all that time to enjoy the characters and obstacles. Still, worth the price. I highly recommend it.
I loved the first book by this author. This is my 2nd and it wasn't quite as exciting -- it even seemed repetitive in places -- but it was still a fun read. Despite the ghoulish sounding title, it is a sweet historical romance, and features another of the Four Kings.
Her sense of humor is welcome, as is her creativity in creating unexpected twists in the plot.
I high recommend this book, but after reading book one first. After meeting Ash (Lord Ashmoore) in book one I knew his story would be a good one. I like the dark Earl and his chosen love, Blair (Scotia) as well. This book was hard to put down. It is entertaining and fast paced. 2 Kings down, 2 to go. Looki g forward to reading Stanley and Harcourt's stories.
Really enjoyed this book as 2nd in series. Clean roma ce and adventure. Some unfortunate misspellings and wrong words kept it from being a 5-star review for me. Still, looking forward to Body and Soul.
Scotia is as spirited, intelligent, and beautiful a heroine as you will ever meet. The English Lord who helps her rescue her brother will soon need to be rescued himself.
Really great continuation of storyline. It's really wonderful to be able to pick up a choice book without looking at cost of same. Really enjoy writings of LL Muir. Don't forget to join Kindle unlimited.
A heroine acting in a highly unlikely manner in a plot that meanders at a glacial pace and more telling than showing finally became too much at the 50% mark. I have too many books in my queue to waste time on a book that cannot hold my interest.
This romantic tale flirts around the horrors of the war in France and the highland trouble with absent English owners. The main characters are on while believable and I will look forward to reading more from this series
What Robin Hood story would be complete without a crooked sheriff? Once again the English and the Scott's swap blame for oppressing the people. Who is the villain?
