Magicka, a force not seen around Deeplake for hundreds of years, is about to return…
Life in Deeplake is so dull for Lily Golding that she goes to elaborate lengths to keep herself entertained. Whilst out on a school trip one day, she plays a practical joke on her teacher, only to see the joke rebound in surprising circumstances. And moments later, when a flaming meteor tears through the sky and crashes into town, Lily and her friends realise things may be awakening in Deeplake – things that have been asleep for a very long time.
Magicka (Part 1) is the first part in a series of instalments telling the story of Lily Golding and the rise of Magicka.
'Magickal' and amazing! Another interesting concept from this author, (I read The Locket Thief before this.) A world in which magicka has been asleep for a very long time sees magicka start to awaken again. It's a short book, but it is only part one in the story and it ends on a really exciting cliffhanger. Can't wait for more.
I recently finished reading The Locket Thief by this author, his full-length book, and I thought I'd give this one a go too. It's a lot shorter, and I think he's planning on releasing it in instalments, like Dickens used to do in the magazines in the 19th century. Like The Locket Thief, though, this is another great read. The story only just gets started in this instalment really, but it gives you a good idea where it's going. It describes the return of Magicka, a force which was once important in the world but has been missing for five hundred years. A young girl called Lily gets involved in a joke with her teacher, and events develop from there. I won't tell you more as it will give it away.
The start of another great story though and I'm going to jump on the next instalment!
