After a bloody armed robbery of a gas station a young couple resume their cross-country crime spree guided by a newspaper article, a phone book and a town map to their next job. An easy in-and-out.
Or so assumed.
Miles Matthews is a soft-spoken man who has been pressed to the edge of humanity’s moral and psychological fibers and has no plans on returning — until an abrupt plea for help arises in the middle of the night at his own front door.
Neither host nor guests could know what horrors lie on the opposite side of the door and neither could imagine the deadly game of cat-and-mouse that is to ensue upon its opening … and sealing.
From the opening pages of "The Deceived" this non-stop thrill fest, when first, as we meet Miles Matthews putting a single bullet in his Smith & Wesson six cylinder 686. spinning the barrel and holding the gun to his head when second. there is a knock on his front door, things don't decelerate.
Miles pulls the guns trigger and hears an empty "click", no joy, puts the gun in his waistband and he answers the door.
Dustin LaValley knows how to lure a reader into his world of cinematic worthy action packed crime drama. The Dialog is spot on. The pace does not relent.
A highly recommended addition to anyone's reading list if they are of a non-sensitive nature.

Damn, that was a hell of a story. Non stop action from the beginning to end with some great characters. I finished this in one day and the author kept me hooked the entire time. The flow and pace was well done and lavalley writes realistic violence and fight scenes. One can't overlook the psychological impact of the story also. All in all a great read.
I'm so glad I snatched up this signed and numbered copy of LaValley's The Deceived. It's a devious little novella that ratchets up the suspense and keeps you guessing until the end. A couple on a crime spree meets a man at the end of his rope. The desperation and deception reach a chilling conclusion. I couldn't put this one down. I look forward to more from LaValley.
