K is a fourth level Paladin and a servant of Purity—the holy nothingness she has been taught to revere and aspire to from childhood. Born on a sexless world from an artificial womb, K was fitted with a black mesh skinsuit at the tender age of nine. The suit nourishes and defends her from enemies and serves as her main weapon in the holy war her people have declared on the rest of the universe. It also eradicates even the slightest traces of emotion. Leading her purge squad in a never-ending mission to rid the universe of the Impure, K is accustomed to killing or enslaving everyone she meets.
That is, until she meets Boone.
Boone is a doctor and geneticist from Colossus—a heavy G world which has rendered the people who inhabited it larger and stronger than regular humans. He’s more than happy to stay on his own planet and do research—until his little sister is taken by Purists and delivered to the pshalite mines. Frantic to rescue her, he hatches a desperate plot—capture a Paladin and use the enemy pawn to gain access to where his sister is being held. K falls into his net—but not without a fight. When she is wounded in the battle, Boone is forced to cut off her skinsuit in order to save her life.
Now, removed from her comforting routine and separated from the parasitic suit, K is beginning to change. Her body is blossoming and her mind is opening. For the first time in her life she can feel…whether she wants to or not. In order to survive in her new environment she has to cooperate with Boone.
However, she soon finds that it isn’t just her body he holds prisoner… but also her heart.
Evangeline Anderson is a registered MRI tech who would rather be writing. And yes, she is nerdy enough to have a bumper sticker that says “I’d rather be writing.” Honk if you see her! She is thirty-something and lives in Florida with a husband, a son, and two cats. She had been writing erotic fiction for her own gratification for a number of years before it occurred to her to try and get paid for it. To her delight, she found that it was actually possible to get money for having a dirty mind and she has been writing paranormal and Sci-fi erotica steadily ever since.
Listed as the first book in the Pure and Tainted series by Evangeline Anderson. But I don't see any other books in the series at this time. K and her crew are ordered to kill everyone on a ship but instead her crew is killed and she is taken prisoner and her parasitic suit is cut off her. Boone needs her to rescue his sister from the pshalite mines.
It started out pretty good but got a little weird to me. But this is Sci-fi so that is to be expected, I guess.
Wait, that was really good. I'm kind of surprised. I started reading this book back during the summer (crazy how it seems like such a long time ago now), but I never really got past the first 3 pages (don't ask??).
This book is underrated. It's 2:48 am in the morning, so this won't be a great review.
Thoughts: I had a feeling K would grow breasts at one point, and sure enough she did. It really seemed like K and Boone wouldn't be able to be together. I thought she might have to sleep with other guys too. Boone was so swoon worthy and the way he kept calling her "darlin' " from the very beginning... K was such an interesting character & heroine. Bad ass to the very end. I really want an epilogue... The story concept was so interesting. And K's real identity...I didn't see that coming but it makes sense in hindsight and was obviously convenient for the author. I really hope there's a Book 2. This was a lot better than the latest books (Kindred) ones I've read by Evangeline.
I was lucky to receive this in a giveaway but would have purchased it anyway as I love this authors work. K is a member of the Purist alliance -a Paladin-and as such feels virtually no emotions. Her only wish is to survive and progress until she finds total silence. Whilst on a routine mission she is captured by Boone as he believes he needs a Paladin to get him onto the planet where his sister is being held captive. The bulk of this story is about the journey they take and how it changes them. Boone is a giant of a man and yet is such a compassionate individual that K is constantly thrown off balance. K has had a life lacking in comfort and as she's used to being encased in a suit that pumps her full of drugs to suddenly be without it is shocking. She has been taught that any skin to skin contact would contaminate her and yet her body cries out for sensation. Knowing that K is just a means to rescuing his sister Boone is finding difficult not to want to protect her. As for K she begins to realise that the Purist way may not always be right. This is a lovely story set in a sci fi world that tries to imagine what it could be like years from now. Earth as we know it no longer exists and humans have been forced out into space and adapted as they can. This is essentially a romance although I felt it was a sensuous read and not hard core erotica that might put some readers off. It was really nice just to drift away into the world that the author has created and I look forward to reading more from her. Definitely recommended
I have yet to read a book by Evangeline Anderson that I did not absolutely love, and Purity is no different. The imagination and creativity shown in her work is unsurpassed in the field of erotic sci fi. In a similar fashion to The Kindred series, Ms. Anderson has created a uniquely detailed universe and characters. The evolution of the human race is intriguing and I enjoyed the banter between characters. It was also quite interesting to see the world through the eyes of someone who has never known emotion and has little understanding of the day to day living of other races. There is a bit less erotic content in this book than in some of her other work due to the necessity of the character development. However, the story is so engrossing that you will not miss it a bit! I look forward to the sequel, Tainted, due out late 2013/early 2014
Purity is not much different than anything else Evangeline Anderson has written. There is a stronger sci-fi element, and less sex, but that’s about it. If you’re looking for a compelling sci-fi tale about the woes of being a human (excuse me, an Erian) full of desire and need and how that can mess everything up? Look elsewhere.
I found neither K nor Boone to be inspiring characters. There was nothing about them that really grated on me, but on the other hand, they were both pretty forgettable, personality wise. Their romance was actually quite bland and everything played out very predictably. I felt like K and Boone could have been so much more interesting as characters that had been through a lot. They could have been more complex and in turn made the story more complex. The potential was there, but as per usual, underutilized. Boone falls far too quickly for K (it’s obvious right from the beginning that he’s already developing feelings for her, which is a little weird considering she had just killed a bunch of his comrades) and K overcomes her issues with being touched, a little too easily and quickly for someone who has spent most of her life being brainwashed and pumped full of drugs. Boone’s friend Loki had more spitfire than either K or Boone, and I often found myself wishing that she had pumped some of that into her main leads, rather than saving it for a minor side character.
One other nitpick I have is that the real name of “K” in this story, is Krissana, which is also the name of the heroine in Planet X, a completely different and unrelated story that she wrote a few years ago. (She also repeats in her BOK series; there are two female characters with exes named Mitch.) I mean really? Out of millions of names that exist, and she chooses the same ones all over again? I don’t understand that at all.
Purity isn't the worst book, and certainly not the worst by EA. I liked the skin suit idea, and some of the other sci-fi stuff, but at the same time, the lack of heat in this book (it has a couple of sex scenes but nothing too crazy) combined with the half-ass writing, makes it only a two star read, for this reader.
This book is FREE!!!! (I don’t know for how long though) This book is a stand alone and can be categorized as a sci-fi romance. I got this based off a recommendation from The Bohemian Housewife blog. I don’t think I have ever read a sci-fi romance before, at least not any that were this sexually graphic.
The title really caught my eye and the fact that it was free, so I snagged it up. When I started reading the book I was real excited because I really liked the concept of her never having touched a person before and all the psychology that went with it. She had never had any food in her life. I mean, imagine how someone would react to that kind of stimuli. It was quite frankly fascinating to read. The author had the descriptions and the dialogue down with those experiences.
But then something strange happened about halfway through the book, it turned into this romance that became very explicit. While I do love me some sexy bits in a book, the beginning and the end didn’t merge well with me for some reason. Her sexuality became a major focus. It was almost laughable to me, not sure if the author meant it to be. The feelings seemed genuine but the physicality of the characters didn’t ring true, I didn’t buy into the whole sexual rage being a serious issue. I’m glad its a stand alone because while I enjoyed the book, I don’t have the patience to start another series right now.
Still, I would rec this book to lovers of sci-fi romance. (Seriously, I didn’t know this was a real genre, learn something new every day I suppose)
I started reading this book with few expectations and became pleasantly surprised. Lately I've found only mild enjoyment in the books I've read, then along came this new one from one of my favourite authors. The inner conflict suffered by K was believable considering her upbringing. Boone is patient, kind and just gorgeous. The story is involved and interesting. My only small complaint would be that the ending felt a bit rushed and maybe kind of clipped but I have a feeling after reading the teaser for the next book that it is designed to flow straight into the next story. This has only a couple of sexy scenes so if you are looking for high frequency sex scenes this is not the book for you.
When I first started reading this I had flashes of the last few seasons of Stargate SG1 and the Ori and being a big fan I eagerly kept reading but soon I was no longer thinking of the Ori much at all. I recommend this book if you are a Sci Fi fan and if you are a fan of this author. I really don't think you'll be disappointed. Now I'm just going to try and patiently wait the time it takes for the second book to be published and in the mean time try and find a story that captures me as much as this one did.
Wow i wasnt expecting this book to be so great ! I love Evangeline Anderson and when i found out she would be writing another series in the sci-fi catergory i was wary since she has such a good track record with me i didnt think, anything could surpass her "brides of kindred" series. But alas i was wrong and thankfull this book has potential to deff be a great series she created such a cool/scary world, my imagination was running wild along with hers lol ! Love the hero , he was so down to earth and very different to me from her typical "alpha males". K was lol ovbiously a bitch most of the time but what redeemed her was basically she didnt know she was being one. I mean just imagine having no feelings at all EVER. Was very strange to think about and kind of scary i felt so bad for her basically like living life on mute. So i was very happy with HEA and i heard there will be a sequel to this book i hope there will be more than that in this crazy world Anderson created. 4.5 Stars !!
I found this little gem the other day and could not resist. I had to pick it up for a read. Not only do I love this Author but I love her work.
I love the worlds she creates along with these greatly built characters. I seriously drool over the thought of reading one of her books.
I felt like a lot of this book was mainly about how Z was changing as a character, how Boone was showing her another way to look at like. He showed her that not everything is what it seems. Along with that, the things she was taught growing up was wrong.
Of course, the writer threw in a wonderful plot twist catching me off guard. Let just say that Z is not who she thinks she is.
The thing I find that Evangeline Anderson is good at is writing this alien stories. In fact, she is the whole reason I started to read not only Science Fiction but Romance as well.
So check this book out along with the author I know you will be in for a treat.
K is a paladin warrior she was taught to fear nothing and feel nothing it's her mantra. Boone is a giant from collosus he is trying to save his sister so he kidnapped K so she would take h to the mines where his sister was being used as labor. In capturing K her paladin suit was damaged so they took it off of her. After they took the suit off of her she became dependent on Boone's touch. From their is where the journey to discovery begins. Will K and Boone have a happy ending? Will she find out who she and what she really is? Will she be safe from the bad people who kidnapped her as a child and made her a paladin warrior? To find the answers to these questions I suggested that you buy the book! It's a great read I couldn't put it down I can't wait for the next book! 5 gold stars!
I have had this book since it came out, yet im only just getting to read it, i dont know why or what was stopping me reading it, because i loved Evangelines Kindred series.....anyway i finally did pick it up to read and im not sitting wondering why i didn't read it sooner....i loved it.
It had a slight feel of the Kindred books with a few words like "View screen" etc so thats what i think made me continue to read....
I really enjoyed it, i got more engrossed in it after K found out she wasn't what she thought she was, it was a "Cant put down" book....and i was excited to read that this will be a series and there is more to come.....
I love almost every Kindred book and I own them all. I have also read various other EA books. I am an eclectic reader and enjoy sci fi, romance, mystery, paranormal, YA, fantasy, and other escapism books. SO, I can enjoy books with little or no, sex or romance in them (some of the reviews of this book make note of the lack of sex scenes in this book). So that being said, I liked reading this book and I am looking forward to the next in the series. I liked the main characters and hated the bad guys (and there seem to be a lot of bad guys). It reads more like a sci fi book with a sideline romance and a couple of hot sex scenes than a hot steamy erotica story with a little sci fi.
Wonderful story by the writer of the Brides of the Kindred. She knows how to mix great new worlds, different cultures, danger, and hot romance. Love her characters. Boone is an educated big, hunky giant. K a young programmed warrior has been severely injured and her skinsuit had to be removed. Can she adapt in spite of her horrific cold, cruel childhood. Fast paced and entertaining, looking forward to the next book "Tainted".
Loved this book! I was expecting it to be something like the kindred series since it's in a similar setting but it's not. Space travel is about the only thing that is the same. Though it's a romance novel there is a good amount of humor in this book too with the sassy pilot always having a great response to what the heroine K has to say. Very surprising plot twists that I wasn't expecting but I'm glad it wasn't predictable. Can't wait for the next one in the series!
This book was a very good read. Action packed fighting for your life. Characters , Boone and K were the main fire to the book, I cannot wait to read more about them. Book 2 seems to be a tease for more. The suspension is more the worth the wait. I will be keeping you informed!
This book was REALLY good!! I loved the concept of the skin suit. The main characters were wonderful, I enjoyed the evolution of their relationship. If was nice not having an instant love situation. The characters really go to know one another. I wish this was a series so that I could get to know the world more.
This book really shows off E.A.s writing skills. Very engrossing story, very engaging characters, and really superior sci-fi world building, even for someone who writes up worlds regularly. Can't wait for the next one, and I thought that would be what was wrong with him!
I enjoyed this book it had an interesting story line and concept the twist the story took was unexpected a and I really liked it. If she wears to write another story involving this world I was definitely read it
I really liked this book wish there was more to the series. Great story Line and didn't drag anywhere it was consistently all the way through no boring part
Steam: 2.5/5 - I'm pretty salty about this because I am a thirsty cow and this book was described as "erotica" in a recommendation. There were 2 short kinda forced half scenes and 1 descriptive scene at the end.. and it's a pretty long freaking book. I would call that a lightly spiced read but I can concede that it's subjective 😆
It's not the fault of the book that I was expecting something else but it played into one of the things that's a book ruiner for me: SoooOooO much freaking talk about sex and tension building and not much in delivery. I know some folks are fans of exactly that but it's a pet peeve of mine and this book was one of the worst for it.
At the beginning there was so much relationship building and I felt like I was in for a 6⭐️ read, but that looses focus for what felt like forever of how much the FMC just needs to get fucked or she'll literally die.... and then there's very little fucking. It felt like it took something away from the romance.
Romance: 4.5/5 - This is where the book shined for me, especially in the first half. I felt like the closeness the characters were experiencing was earned and that they were truly looking at the big picture of loving each other instead of how their feelings might be hurt by things outside of their control. The MC's get to know each other deeply and continually find ways to choose one another and put the other first.
Plot: 4/5 - I thought that the concept was awesome and I mostly loved it. There were some holes and things that didn't quite makes sense but overall I loved the world building and thought it was interesting and entertaining.
The 2nd half got deeply into the stuff I covered in my rant about the steam section. If the 2nd half had focused less on K's physiological need for sex and more on exploring that side of her intimacy with Boone, I think I would have thought it was a perfect book.
Rereable: No
**Edit: Except for one bonus chapter at the end of the book featuring a different couple. That one is definitely rereadable 👌
Continuing with series/author: I think I'd like to try something else by Anderson but I need to do a deeper dive into her reviews beforehand so that I have better luck finding my cup of tea.
**Edit after reading a bonus scene at the end of the book from one of the author's previous stories:
I am way less salty about steam levels 😆 Anderson described the scene as both steamy and unusual and I thought that was well put. It is both and it is awesome. Maybe even one of my favorite steam scenes ever.
A couple named Elaina and Commander Terex were mentioned and I think their book (Uncharted) or just the Brides of the Kindred series in general, is worth reading some reviews on.
This seems to have been the start of a new series from an author who I love reading but there is only this one. I actually liked all the characters right off the bat, which is kind of unusual, I generally dislike at least one person immediately. Personality wise everyone has their own special quirks that make them special and interesting. The descriptions of the worlds that have evolved since humankind escaped into space are very different from anything you might imagine. Even though you only get to hear about three worlds you know that there are likely many more out there that have a very diverse population of people.
K is a woman without emotion, born in a sexless world she was fitted with a mesh skinsuit that blocks all feelings. Her life has been one of coldness with no love or close relationships. Boone is a man on the edge because of the kidnapping of his sister which has pushed him to a desperate act. He sets a trap for the Purists and captures K in the hope of getting her to help him rescue his sister. He removes her suit to save her life but sets changes in motion he was not expecting. With the removal of her suit and routine, she starts to change in both body and mind, feelings emerge and she is not ready.
While this is different from the Kindred stories it still has some similarities, mainly the terminology. The story is one of awakening both sexually and emotionally and how it can feel when you have never felt anything about others or even yourself before. There is an interesting twist that I did not see coming but should have.
This had been a great read and had enjoy the whole story. Feels good when you are wrapped up in the books world and character as I had with K and Boone.
I am surprised that this is a series but didn’t really saw other books. The world building and plot was great and I did enjoy it a lot. Although I got bored at some point with both MC’s protecting each other. Really looking forward to the other characters in the story especially the leader of Tainted. I simply want to read his HEA.
Definitely recommend it to all. Especially those who read sci-fi. The world building and the characters are engaging and heroine is a skilled fighter and is having baby steps toward feeling emotions as she was raised not to feel and only kill for her cause and not question what is being taught to her.
Absolutely loved it! Story totally hooked me from the beginning with a few surprise twists & I really liked the “tainted”. Hope that the series continues. Purchased this as an audiobook and totally enjoyed it. It’s another one I will listen to again & again. The story pulled me in and I ended up listening to the entire thing in one day! LOL Evangeline Anderson is one of my favourite authors & have read ALL of “Brides of the Kindred “, “Tales of the Kindred “ ”CyBorg Files”, “Alien Mate Index” & several of her other books & decided to try this older one and don’t regret it!
I liked this book lots. I now think at the end of this book that Boon's sister Sharlene should have a own book 📚 and her owen gaint or kindered or ploit of a space ship. I had a very strong feeling about Sharlene. I loved Kay. I didn't like Kay beening a Princess. I liked Kay beening a comdener. I liked the trianter's very much. I liked the way that Kay whated to learn everything from her giant. I didn't like that Kay was so much lost in her own purity world. I didn't like the way that purity come in to making love to Boon. I liked Boon too.

It was certainly interesting. I wasn't quite sure where the storyline was heading, which was a nice change. A lot of books have a similar storyline lately, so I liked that this one was a little different. However, the sex stuff was a little odd. Twenty to twenty-five times a day huh? Wowza.
