She is the innocent victim caught in his murderous web...

Livia, a young and vulnerable patrician, is brought up in isolation and poverty by her madman father. At his death she is married off to Festus, a degenerate Roman Senator, who is to 'save' her from the whorish blood she inherited from her mother. Little does she know, the man her father thought would protect her, plans her degradation and death.

But the innocent Livia is not without friends, even if they are only slaves belonging to her husband. There is Nexus, the Nubian head slave of her husband's household, Niobe, her handmaiden, and Allyn, the dangerous and unstable Celt who has spent his life meeting the sexual demands of his owners and now find himself tasked with the destruction of his new mistress.

From Rome's villas of unimaginable wealth to the blood and desperation of the gladiatorial amphitheatre, the slaves play a cat and mouse game with their devious master to keep Livia safe.

But it is not in Rome that the final confrontation with Festus takes place. Nor is it the slaves who determine Livia's fate. It is in Pompeii, as Mt Vesuvius erupts, that Livia takes her destiny into her own hands and finds a love worth fighting for.

Nhys Glover is an Australian born award-winning author of over 75 romance novels. She is known for blending heart, heat, and a touch of the extraordinary in her stories. From time-traveling lovers to soul-deep polyamory connections, her work explores love in all its transformational forms.
Now living in Durham County UK, Nhys draws on her background in teaching and spiritual inquiry for inspiration in her writing. As she sits at her desk, staring out at the windy moors, she often reflects on what it means to stay human in an increasingly digital world. It is, after all, the subject of her newest book, a non-fiction called Authenticity, as Taught by a Machine.
But no matter the genre, Nhys is always chasing one thing: the truth at the heart of every story.

Very different from what I usually read and also very interesting.
The title liquid fire is related to a vulcano eruption, since this novel is set about the time Pompeii was destroyed buy Vesuvio eruption.

Ancient Rome

A very interesting story. This novel takes the reader back to Ancient times and the Roman Empire. The ruling class and slaves are very much active in this nivel.

My niece has been speaking of Nhys Glover's work for so long that I've decided to give it a shot, specially once she told me Nhys had a historical romance series set in the ancient Roman Empire.
I'm glad I did as I've always enjoyed books which teach without lecturing as well as characters who seem real enough to have walked amongst us all those centuries ago.
I'm not saying the book is flawless -if it were I would have given it five stars- however ,It's been a while since I've felt empathy for the characters in a book (been reading a lot of rubbish I tell you) so just the fact that I could feel it here was a plus, and though I don't really like the hero for his action could only have been redeemed, in my eyes, if he feared death and his life was at risk at that moment, I find the main character's growth pleasant to follow and Nexus' completely captivating. Actually I've found myself wishing he had been the hero...
Oh well, I guess I'll have to read "Lionslayer's Woman" then...

I read the two books in the wrong order, but it didn't seem to matter.

I thought Nhys Glover seamlessly painted a detailed picture of Roman life, without overburdening the reader with too much history.
The book followed the story of Livia, and her struggle to 'find' the real her; within the midst of an abusive mad-man father, a missing (whore) mother, a depraved husband, and a sadistic lover!
*Spoiler - I did have a couple of issues. The first was the ending, it was a bit 'twee' (for want of a better word.) The 'nasties' got killed, and the 'goodies' lived happily ever after - I know that's what normally happens with this genre, but the outcomes seemed rushed, and then everything was miraculously, amazingly good! The second issue was, although I liked, and disliked some of the main characters, some of them were a little lacking in detail for me to care either way.
Having said that, overall I liked the book, and will continue to read other books from this author.

Roman historic

A wonderful portrayal of early AD Rome. Dissipation and corruption of Roman senators surround this story of a young woman taken as a young girl away from her mother by her father and taught that physical love was wrong and was isolated from all but her father for 18 yrs until the death of her father who had arranged a marriage of convenience with an elderly pedophilic Roman Senator to keep her pure. Her husband turns on her and arranges her downfall to divorce her for infidelity and thereby keeping the wealth of her father. The remaining events involve the eruption of mount Vesuvius allowing the young girl to meet happiness and love of one of the stories heroes Allyn.

Slave no more

Wonderfully written story of ancient Roman and the lives of the elite. Money does not give you freedom -piece of mind does. It takes a twisted mind of this elites husband and his evil plan to heal her of her painful past.
