In a sleepy village, things begin to change. For Ray, this results in a new job, a new business and even a new assistant. Whilst he contemplates these changes, his wider world changes too. Can Ray cope with all the change? How will his stepfather's murky past help? Will his passionate assistant engage him like no woman ever has before? And what will become of the penguins?
'For All our Dreaming' is a novella that explores how passions and belief affect everyone, even in the quietest and stillest backwaters of our world.
After years of dreaming, I finally realised that it was now or never to become an author. The stories were bursting out of me and I just had to get writing. After finding out about Kindle Direct Publishing, I published my novella For All our Dreaming. I was thrilled at the encouraging words and so I set about a novel. The result was Nothing is Everything. In a year in which I changed jobs and juggled a new career with bringing up a young baby, I am proud (and shocked) to have released a novel at all. I have plenty of other ideas and just want to embrace this exciting time for authors and to get to know as many people as possible!
This is a beautifully gentle story about love - the love of family, of life and, wonderfully, of Penguins.
When the ambitious son of the owner of Cromer Zoo decides to do away with the unprofitable Penguin enclosure, a chain of events is set in place that is so lovely I'm smiling even as I write these lines. The characters are wonderfully drawn and the pace perfect for the bus ride I take through the countryside on my way to work. There is a magical quality to the events that I so admire as well as some wonderful turns of phrase.
I finished this novella feeling even better about this wondrous life than I do already. And for a peaceful, optimistic pacifist such as I that is a wonderful achievement!
While this charming novella revolves around penguins, at its core, it is more the tale of the lives of several residents of a small English village; how they intersect and join together to decide the fate of penguins in a small zoo. The detailed descriptions of the characters and their lives make it a delightful read. There is quite a bit of jumping about during the reveal, which takes some focus to follow, but overall, this an enjoyable read.
I loved this story! Leatherdale is a keen observer of humanity and his characters are instantly relatable. I loved the descriptions of the small town and how the main character came into the world. And, I will admit, I have a soft spot for penguins. If you are looking for a short read that has an impact, get this book!
