Amelia isn't ready to decide what to do with her life. She just graduated high school and summer was in full swing. Her grandmother's book store was her favorite place to be. When sexy businessman Nicholas Price comes to her grandmothers book store with an offer to buy the place Amelia's world changes. Nick seems like a great guy, but his brother Alex is even better. Alex leaves no question about what he wants. He wants a submissive and he offers Amelia the job. Complete obedience, it's a simple request. Amelia's caught between trying to figure out who she is, and trying to be the submissive Alex wants. Alex's callous attitude, cold demeanor, jealous rages, and explosive temper makes everything more complicated and even more interesting.
I have been writing since I was eight. I started out with poetry. Eventually, I moved on to short fantasy stories, then eventually books. I have always loved books, whether I was reading them or writing them. Books were always a perfect escape from reality. When I was growing up, I admired authors and I imagined I would eventually be one. The primary genre I write is fantasy romance. I love creating tough heroines and sexy vampires, werewolves, Fae, and every other supernatural creature I can come up with. I also write new adult romance when I am in the right mood. I want my readers to get the same joy from reading my stories that I do when I read some of my favorite authors.
This book made me extremely uncomfortable. I see no problem in finding sexual pleasure through spankings, hair pulling and rough sex. I DO find objectionable domestic and sexual abuse. There is a sometimes very fine line between consensual domination/submission sexual relationships and domestic abuse, a line that the "hero" (he really doesn't deserve the term though) crosses repeteadly through the book, by slapping, backhanding, including in public, and raping the heroine. The worst thing is she actually more or less goes with it, and I have the feeling a marriage proposal is to be expected in the next book of the series and, yeah, yeah, she will probably say yes. *shaking head*
Before I go on with this review, I would like to point something out to the author: it's ok that you can't really spell. But your damn editor SHOULD KNOW the difference between to and too! If they couldn't catch that, fire them. Or set them on fire, your call. Really.
Amelia's grandma has a book store, and whatever Nicholas Price is selling, she ain't buying (or allowing him to buy it from her). Virgin Amy starts fraternizing with the enemy, but soon exposes her slutty tendencies by taking the fraternizing a bit too seriously, getting all tangled up in a D/s relationship with his brother, Alex. Who is flat out the most ridiculously portrayed "bad boy" ever, and a serial abuser. I am sorry, but by the end of this book, I wasn't sure who I detested most. Him, or Amy for being such a lovely victim, returning to him every single time.
Hard truth time: just as there are men who don't think with their dicks, there are women out there who DON'T think and act with their cunts. But I will give Amelia the benefit of the doubt, because she is barely 18 and really doesn't know better (also, she doesn't strike me as the brightest star in the sky - I can't ask for too much).
This was an infuriating read, and not only because of the points I just made. There was no structure, no chapters, and there was so much punctuation missing I initially thought it was an accident. The sentences are a joke, and the dialogues aren't far behind. I am not sure it could have been more dull even if it tried to. No umph, no spark, no nothing. And it PISSES ME OFF when a plot has potential, to see it squandered so pointlessly by truly untalented authors.
This book is on the dark side of BDSM. It has hitting and a man that just can't seem to get the right words to come out.
Amelia just loves to hang out in her grandma's book store. She gets to sit all day and just read. One day a man named Nicholas comes in to see about getting her grandma to sell her store and Amelia ends up going out with him. Everything is just normal until she runs into Alex at their parents house and there is a connection with him that she didn't have with Nicholas.
Alex is just very jealous and can't seem to keep his anger issues under control and Amelia gets the brunt of all of it. She finally has enough. She calls it off and that is when the book is over. I can't wait for the next book so that I can see what will happen next.
One of the worst books I've ever read in my life, which is so disappointing because the plot had a lot of potential. BUT the writing was awful, the vocabulary was so limited (and my native language is Spanish so you can imagine how poor the vocabulary in this book really is), it didn't give any details and barely describes anything or anyone... there's no way to connect with the characters. Plus, there's a thin line between BDSM and domestic violence and sexual abuse and this guy definitely crossed that line many times, and the girl is so stupid, she doesn't even reacts (pretends to but she doesn't really react) to the abuses... The plot has great potential but the writing ruined everything, this book is incredibly bad.
There was some great parts in this story- grandma, the bookstore, Jake, Mrs. Price. Nick is an interesting guy and the younger brother of Alex. Alex can be nice but he is a spoiled bully. Hopefully, in the book he will redeem himself. Amelia has a lot on her plate- what will she do?
