The Dark Angels are among the most loyal servants of the Emperor, who stand foremost amongst the Space Marines, Mankind's mightiest defenders. Since the founding of their Legion, they have been dreaded by their enemies and held in awe by those they protect. Stubborn and relentless in battle, they are ever vigilant in their pursuit of Humanity's enemies. Yet it was not always so. For ten millennia the Dark Angels have harboured a sinister secret, knowledge of an act so terrible that it threatens everything they hold dear and may yet bring them eternal damnation.
The Dark Angels are my favorite Space Marine Chapter (in addition, I remember buying the Games Workshop eight man Terminator Squad box set when it came out and painting them up in the original black Chapter colors of the Dark Angels) and this Codex was a compilation of the Chapter's history and it introduced new units to help give the Dark Angels a more unique feel in an era where they were lacking against others, like the White Scars. Sadly, game wise, a lot of units in the book are lacking when compared to those in the regular Space Codex, but hopefully their newest Codex (which has been released at the time of this review) will bring their gaming power-level up.
A very enjoying codex to read with nice backstory (some of which is old, but a lot is fleshed out further in places). Definitely a lot better written than its predecessor codex. Even if you do not play Dark Angels, this is worth a buy, I think. Especially if you are interested in the backstory and history of Space Marine chapters in general. And if you regularly play 40K, this is worth a buy anyway, if only to help you better understand a possible enemy or ally.
