Description
Lottery is a 17k word novella taking place in Hugh Howey's World of Wool.

In the world of the silo, falling in love comes with its own set of rules. As young Tabitha and Justin begin their lives together, they know what they can and cannot do.

Then the impossible happens and Tabitha finds out she is with child. With no lottery ticket to redeem, the consequences for pregnancy are harsh: every addition requires a subtraction.

From the Down Deep to the Up Top, there is nowhere to hide. It won't be long before the truth comes out and her husband is sent outside and put to cleaning. There is just one way to save his life--but to save him, Tabitha will have to do the unspeakable.

Love the dystopia that the Silo, and this, opposite of the silo create.
The characters in this were rougher, I didn't bond with any. The dryness of the setting seemed reflected in the caring, dusty and faded.
Still loved it, how they invent a world and populate and invent rules and liv s.
Will read the author again.

Set in the world of Hugh Howey`s Wool, Lottery tells the story of a young couple who commit the crime of getting pregnant without authorization.

I should disclose that I was given this book free from the author. I really did like this story. I am torn in that I didn't love Wool but I like this story. It really captures the fear of this woman who gets pregnant in a time when you must have approval before having a child. In a very short story, you get a real feeling for the love of these two people and the fear of losing her husband while also fearing for the life of her child. A lot of emotion packed into a short story!!!

I found "Lottery" tragically sad, but right on the money in the Silo Saga family. As a Silo (Wool) diehard Fan, I couldn't help but be sucked right in by this story...and for the record, I cannot say this is the case for all of the Wool fan-fiction that has been published. There is definitely a continuum of great to not-so-good fan fiction in this realm. It was evident that the author clearly knew his source material thoroughly and did a great job of adding a complementary gem to the overall collection.
