First edition hardcover with unclipped dust jacket designed by Bill Dare, in good condition. From the private collection of Dame Carmen Callil, publisher, writer, critic and founder of Virago Press, with ownership penned to FEP and pencil marginalia extant. Jacket is scuffed and sunned, particularly the spine. Edges are creased and nicked, with a crease to the upper corner of the front inner flap. Board corners and spine ends are bumped and rubbed. Spine is cocked. Page block and endpapers are lightly blemished. Binding is sound and pages are otherwise clear. LW
I was interested in reading this book having read Antonia White's Frost in May many years ago. However, I found it very difficult to empathize with any of the numerous characters (when I could remember who they were) and so didn't enjoy it very much.
