Franklin Patrick Herbert Jr. was an American science fiction author best known for the 1965 novel Dune and its five sequels. Though he became famous for his novels, he also wrote short stories and worked as a newspaper journalist, photographer, book reviewer, ecological consultant, and lecturer. The Dune saga, set in the distant future, and taking place over millennia, explores complex themes, such as the long-term survival of the human species, human evolution, planetary science and ecology, and the intersection of religion, politics, economics and power in a future where humanity has long since developed interstellar travel and settled many thousands of worlds. Dune is the best-selling science fiction novel of all time, and the entire series is considered to be among the classics of the genre.
Solid 4 stars. It's a classic, this author's genius apparently only stays on a genius level... I still haven't found out how they pee, and quite frankly, it scares me. If they take off their stillsuits, are they naked? Do they wear clothing beneath and pee themselves?? How do they shit? How is the waste removed from the stillsuit... so many questions that I am not sure if I want an answer to...
Takođe, u ovom više je pravih naučnofantastičnih elemenata u smislu upoznavanja Arakisa, crva, Slobodnjaka... a manje intriga, Bene Geseritskih magija i psihodelije.
Liked this one more than the first. We learn much more about the Fremen and their way of life. More about the deep desert and the makers. I liked how Paul thought he was hot snot only to realize over and over that Jessica was hotter snot. I'm upset by Jessica's portrayal in the movies. She's a bad ass and in the movies she's portrayed as rather weak. If not for Jessica the Fremen would have killed Paul or at least abandoned him to the desert.
And we get to the part where Jessica drinks the Water of Life which has lasting consequences for her unborn super creepy daughter who is one of my favorite characters from the old movie. I'm upset it seems Duncan Idaho is dead. And Liet. Interested to see what Hawat's future holds now that he is Mentat for the Harkonnen.

The second part of Dune. It is ok, nothing hugely special to go WOW over. The writing is very simple and easy. The story has subtle environmental undertones to it.
