Violet Joicey-Cowen is the proud owner of one rather chaotic life. This includes her son, her menagerie (currently – two dogs, one cat, one guinea-pig, one fish and 5 stick-insects), her friends and a rather battered laptop she would be lost without. She lives in North Yorkshire in England. When she is not writing she plays a lot of pool and is on a couple of teams.
She has been writing since she was about ten years old and has always loved escaping into other worlds where the people living there would tell her their stories and she would just have to write them down. She always dreamed of having her stories published so her characters could get out there and meet other people who might begin to love them as much as she does. She loves to hear from readers and can be contacted through her wordpress account or you can find her on Facebook.
I think I liked this book just a bit more than the first installment. Just bc I feel like the plot flowed well. However the second book had the same issues as the first. Editing problems. ..strange speech patterns. .. and wayyyyy too much unnecessary information. I don't need to know what ever character eats for breakfast in detail and the way that the cereal tastes or that they went to the grocery store and each item they bought and what every aisle looks like. .etc. There seems to be tons of info that is unrelated or unnecessary to the plot. its a 40k word story but I think it could have been much better at 30-35k. But most importantly I liked the characters and at the end of day I think the MCs and their love story is most important
I enjoyed this very much. Thought both characters were FOOLS!! And loved them because of it. LoL Glad they finally got their stuff together!! But Violet...... Where. Is. The. Evil. Stepfather??? (Narrowing Eyes...) ;-) Okay, okay.... I'll wait for the next installment..... (eyes Violet....) 8-)
Jake and Daniel's story. Daniel is a Human and Jake is a wolf. They are both from Alpha Sec that Perry brought in after Charlie come back to help with the rescue. MM. Enjoyable read.
This story is part of a series and is best read in order. Wolf shifter Jake has longed for his mate for years, being in close contact is getting harder and harder but he refuses to claim a man who is straight and has never shown any interest other than friendship. Daniel has kept his sexuality hidden from his friends and workmates as a way to hide his attraction to Jake, knowing Jake could meet his fated mate at any time. After one night together Daniel disappears and Jake begins to go feral, and when Daniel reappears will it be too late to save Jake?
This story starts somewhere around-about half way through book one Alpha Second and is from Jake's and Daniel's perspectives. Jake has known since he first met Daniel that they were mates but Daniel was seventeen so he decided to wait, but then thought Daniel was straight so has left him alone and has suffered from unrequited love. Daniel has always been attracted to Jake but understands a little about the mate business and because he doesn't want his heart ripped out at a later date, he pretends to be straight as a way to handle his attraction to Jake. When their misunderstanding is finally corrected they have more challenges ahead.
This is a pretty good paranormal story that begins to clear up the threat to the paranormals that we were introduced to in Alpha Second. Jake and Daniel make a fantastic couple once they both reveal their true feelings, they are smoking hot and super sexy. Both men have hidden their feelings for the other thinking they were protecting themselves but really they have only been hurting each other. Daniel dives into trying to discovering what information they found when they rescued the captives and Jake continues to keep everyone safe. I did enjoy this story but I could never figure out why Daniel pretended to be straight? So he wanted to throw others off his attraction to Jake, fine, but he could have done that easily enough with his true sexuality. The storyline continues with the Michaelson thread and the relocation of the rescued paranormals, and it was nice to see how they were all taken care of and the discovery of mates for some of Perry's pack.
I recommend this to those who love paranormals coming to the rescue, misunderstanding and miscommunication, hot sex, new discoveries and a great ending for Daniel and Jake.
I put off reading this series of books because I thought they would be dark and depressing, but they are not. The author's story telling style is a bit frustrating until you get used to it. In these books the MCs do not communicate at all. Actions or partially spoken words are misinterpreted. Many times we don't know how the words or actions are taken or why. It is eventually explained but don't expect it to be right after the event. In each book the MCs want each other but there is a reason they will not claim or approach. The frustration comes in when we are like the other MC and don't know why. Both Alpha Second and Another Way to Hide occur in the same time period with significant events around an interaction at the BBQ. Insta-attraction but not insta-action, love or acceptance, are at the heart of these books. Worth a read. And they are set in England.
This one didn't do a whole lot for me because I wasn't able to get into the back story. I did not read the first book, which I am sure would have helped, but it just held no interest to me so I passed on it. This one sounded like it had some good conflict, so I forged ahead. It was a quick read and I found myself skimming a bit. I know that's not really fair, but I really did get bored with all the pack/alpha mumbo-jumbo.
Since I didn't really get into this one, I can't recommend or not recommend this it. If you read the first of the series, you will probably like this one. As far as the M/M romance goes, it was lukewarm. The conflict was resolved early and that's when things died down for me.
Didn't like feeling like time line is messed up... alludes to Jake and Daniel mating in first book, though don't realize until seeing from their POV in the second book.
Other than that and wondering why Daniel felt the need to 'hide' to begin with.. oh wait, seventeen, military... good reasons. I kept thinking (must be mis-remembering from book 1) that Daniel is Other and waiting for confirmation. I guess really is just a super smart human.
I'm willing to keep going with this. I think the author is pulling it together better with this book as opposed to the first one and will continue to improve on getting her ideas across.
