A fictional short story set in the time period of 1940 during the evacuation of children from the island of Guernsey before the occupation of the German troops.
Heide is a freelance author who works from the freedom of her home at the top of the Chesapeake Bay. The beauty of the area inspires her stories and many of the local landmarks are included as part of the backdrop of her scenes. Heide works the personality of the nearby towns into some of the characters that live in several of her fictional pieces. By keeping her stories varied in style and structure, she keeps the reader intrigued from one page to the next, using words to evoke literal images of the scenes as she pulls you into the story with dialogue.
While I've indulged in many WWII stories over the years, this one intrigued me as I wasn't familiar with the island of Guernsey. I think this is a great way to teach kids about that period in history and I'd love to learn more about the culture of the between island. This was self published and could use some clean up but I'm grateful that the author chose to share her story.
