A few years ago I stumbled across an audio version of The Wolf of Wall Street and found it to be wild, funny and brilliantly ‘performed’ by the reader, Eric Meyers. For anyone who hasn’t heard this story (via the book, the subsequent film or by picking up on the news reporting of the time) it tells of the true story of Jordan Belfort who set up an investment company and became a multi-millionaire by ripping-off investors. He lived a lifestyle of unbelievable excess before the authorities eventually caught up with him. I absolutely loved the book, mainly because Belford’s voice shone through the story which was told throughout in an irreverent and totally over-the-top style. I’m sure that some scenes may have been described in a way designed to maximise the entertainment value but I’ve got no issue with that, it remains one of my favourite autobiographies.
And this time around history repeated itself, I spotted this book in an Audible sale and hadn’t even realised that Belfort had penned a follow up to his first book. Here the story picks up from the point he’s been arrested and takes us through subsequent events as he attempts to come to terms with his predicament and, as best he can, manage the impacts on himself and his family. This book was read by Ray Porter and I have to say he does good a job, if not better, than EM. I truly found myself nearly helpless with laughter at some points, which given the fact that the focus here is on Belford’s arrest, interrogation and subsequent incarceration I think is somewhat remarkable. But once again, this is really down the way in which the story is told and how scenes are framed. Belfort is just a born storyteller.
If you’re in the mood for an interesting true(ish) story and can cope with the fairly extreme profanity that goes with it then I’d definitely urge you to seek out Belfort’s books.
Was looking for a redeeming factor the whole time. Nothing. This guy is the worst! He goes on and on about how much he's "changed", as he parades topless models around his house in front his kids. His new career path is a scam too, and responsible for the 2008 crash. This book also comes across as self-indulgent soft porn. Gross.
As you can see from my review, I was a fan of The Woolf of Wall Street. While The Woolf of Wall Street was an entertaining rollercoaster ride of debauchery, Catching The Woolf of Wall Street had nothing worthwhile left to tell.
I know it’s more a story about him rebuilding his life but that’s not a story I’m interested in from Jordan Belfort. If you’re thinking that this book is going to pick up at the same exciting pace where the last one finished, then you’ll be terribly disappointed. However, if you’re looking for a story about a man constantly trying to justify why he handed all of his friends up to save himself, then go for it.w
Quick read. Scary look into what Wall Street has been and could become again. Never before in my life have I read about such a self-absorbed and delusional person. Well written, though.
I both loved and hated these books. Jordan Belfort starts out the first book talking about how he's a changed man, and all he really wants is for his children to respect him and not make his same mistakes. Then he goes on for about 500 pages describing in some unbelievable detail about the complete insanity that was his life. Amounts of drugs like you wouldn't believe, sex with more women than he could count, and just excess beyond what you could imagine. But what I never heard from him was remorse over these actions. It really sounded to me like a middle-aged guy trying to remember the good ol' days. But the good ol' days make for one fascinating book-- one that I could NOT put down. Every page brought more and more ridiculousness, and I couldn't stop reading it.
Once I got to the second book, it focused more on his rise and fall in the stock industry as well as his efforts to provide assistance to the FBI and US Attorney. I got the sense that he was more introspective about this time in his life than his party years, even though he was still continuing to make some truly stupid decisions.
Overall, I really enjoyed the books, and I'd definitely recommend you read them for the pure entertainment value. But don't expect a book with a great redemption story.
Very similar to The Wolf of Wall Street, we pick up Jordan after his arrest and follow him to his prison sentence and him setting pen to paper. While the actions of Jordan are still over the top, there is not the same rush as the first book. In this one you start to see the shine off the apple. While his life is not one you want to lead, a reader enjoys the stories. But now on the downward path his life is taking you see Belfort still acting as he did in The Wolf of Wall Street. Some readers may think he is getting what is coming to him others may pity him, but none can say he does not lead a life worth telling.
A good read to see how the lifestyle such as Belfort leads ends up like. While there are hints of the events after the arrest in the movie, Catching the Wolf of Wall Street gives a more detailed account and takes Hollywood out of the story. In the movie we see Jordan going to prison and things aren't that bad. But in the book we see the reality of the whole situation.
A good read if you are curious about the after affects of Jordan's arrest, trial, and life as a informant. But if you are looking for the same light hearted enjoyable read as the first you will find only shadows here.
Serio. A Belfort absurdalny to Belfort, którego lubię najbardziej.
O najinteligentniejszym z głupców i najgłupszym z inteligentów. To opowieść o brudnym świecie pieniądza.
I enjoyed this much more than The Wolf of Wall Street. Acting as a prequel and sequel all in one, we finally learn a bit more of the human that is Jordan Belfort. If you want to read how a man finds himself in his position, what it is like to go through the white collar justice system, or how a man on the verge of being torn from his family might think... This is a great book for you.
Truly captures the making and breaking of an ambitious soul! A realization between the antics of what's worthy and what's priceless.. Simplicity, freedom and peace.. The true humblings of happiness!
More shocking antics from the deranged and depraved life of the Wolf at the peak of his outrageous Stratton career. It’s an easy and compelling read - but after having also just read the original Wolf of Wall Street autobiography, two volumes is enough for me!
enjoyable to read more of the backstory and subsequent proceedings following his arrest , interesting writing but felt the book could have been shorter with the same stories included .
Loved, loved, loved it! Yes, we know Jordan ripped off a load of people. And we know that's naughty and not advised. But this larger-than-life story is fantastic.
Massively entertaining, frequently hilarious, gripping all the way through. The narrator of the Audible version is one of the best I've heard too - should get awards... and go into voice-acting if he hasn't already.
If you liked the movie, you will love this.
I've not the read the first book yet so can't say how they differ in what they cover. It's high on my TBR list now though.
I was on the receiving end of the Wolf's (or someone like him with a similar script) solicitation by phone, a cold call in the early 1990's. I instantly knew I was being scammed, played along and finally the guy started screaming at me. It is truly remarkable how gullible folks are. At times I think folks scamed by the Wolf should be issued a dunce's cap and deserved the beating for being so stupid.
I cannot say that I like this book. I rated 3/5. Why did I put an average mark? In the beginning was very interesting to read about Jordan's cooperation. The middle part is very boring. Joran always speaks about his children. No one cares about Jordan Belford's children, rather,he cried like baby. The most interesting part, happy ending. 2 years and 110m is nothing for Jordan.
I thought this book was well written and a wonderful insight into the life of Jordan Belfort. While yes, he did disgusting things and committed unspeakable crimes. I feel that he did redeem himself. I was very happy with this book.
The Wolf of Wall Street series is an epic one that can teach almost anyone very interesting and eye-opening things. They are two autobiographies written by Jordan Belfort - the founder and owner of Stratton Oakmont. Stratton Oakmont was a stock brokerage that was taking companies public on the Stock Market and selling the IPO (initial public offering) stock to themselves to drive the market price up. Once the price was skyhigh, they would sell it to people who actually wanted it right before it crashed. This made Jordan Belfort and Stratton Oakmont stupid rich. With all this money, Jordan became addicted to sex, more than 5 different drugs, and hookers. His autobiographies teach the readers about his exciting life. I would give any book written by Jordan Belfort 100%. They are very comical while also describing intense business dealings and schemes. I love learning how people like Belfort think because, while they are criminals, there is quite a bit of useful information to be gained. Given that the book goes into minute details about hookers, drugs, and sex, I would say no one under the age of fifteen should read this but, hey, I’m not your dad. I think adults could and do definitely enjoy this book. I think younger children might also enjoy this book but it may be a touch inappropriate for them. I think Josh Kester would probably like this book. Also, Taylor Boudreuax would enjoy it. I believe it would be too graphic for Braydon Weekly though - I’m not sure he could handle it.

It has been a fair amount of time since I read The Wolf of Wall Street – and by fair amount, I mean several years. I was a bit worried I had left it too long and would be lost on where I was up to in the story.
What I soon found is that this second instalment can stand on its own and doesn’t need to immediately follow the first book.
Focused around his cooperation with the authorities and his struggle to come to terms that he is turning on ‘friends’ this sequel shows a more human side of Belfort. A few more genuine moments of emotion come out, especially surrounding his children and the realisation that his reckless behaviour will now effect their lives and the time he has to spend with them.
The Wolf of Wall Street (even if you are only familiar with the movie) is a larger than life story and is almost hard to believe as non-fiction – unless, of course, you’ve been around some similar CEO types in your working career and then it all rings too true. Catching the Wolf however, is somewhat of a redemption piece showing that he is just a mere mortal after all.
If what you originally loved about Belfort’s story were the eye-rolling over the top moments, there a still quite a few tucked in within the pages. You won’t be disappointed. Definitely an interesting read, especially if you got pulled in during the first instalment.
Well, that was repetitive and unsatisfying. The final two chapters were very rushed - he's in prison, then 2 seconds later he's out and in those seconds you get to learn he's having a very "tough" time while being served by several diffrent men who play the roles of the help. Literally. *eye roll* I don't think 4 years prison sentence cannot show for an interesting story but apparently our guy thought so, since he doesn't say anything else about it. I know this is an autobiography and how can you really put a rating on somebody's life? but yeah, he's a fucking scumbag, a misogynistic, racist, greedy, paranoid and egocentric bastard. Did you expect anything else? The movie made him funny and likeable and you can almost forget all the shitty and illegal things he did, but not if you read the book. He got off easy, just like every other rich white man in the history. Surprised? No. Just disgusted. 3 stars only for the interesting "inside" information about laws and marketing and the loopholes in them.
You've seen the 'Wolf of Wall Street', with Leo glorifying the rather nefarious actions of one Jordan Belfort.
Catching the Wolf, picks up where the movie finished, what actually happened after he was caught?
In this astounding account, Wall Street's notorious charlatan in some eyes, sales legend in others - the original million dollar a week stock chopper, leads us through the tumultuous turns of his life post arrest after having to rat out on his closest friends and family.
With his family in tatters, kingdom in ruin, friends turned on him, Belfort faces one of the most greatest challenges to date: how to equip himself to deal with the onslaught of lawyers, hearings and judges.
The book paints a humorous yet sobering light on the man at the centre of one of the most shocking scandals in financial history.
One question always rattles around my mind when reflecting on Belfort's story - he eventually found his conscience, but would he have done if the FBI didn't force his hand?
Although not as wild as the opening memoir, this book does a great job at essentially going full circle into how Jordan Belfort cleans up his act, gets his life together and ultimately goes to prison and learns how to write. I enjoyed a further installment of this man’s life and I will forever be intrigued and entertained by the insanity that he lived through.
It’s clear to anyone who reads just a few chapters that this man has a knack for speaking and writing, which in no small explains the success of his books as complete works. I also believe this is a true missing puzzle piece to the first book and the life story of Jordan Belfort cannot be fully appreciated by just the movie or just his first book. To see even the judicial branch of government change their feelings towards this guy, clearly shows a major shift in who he was as a man.
For anyone who loves or hates him, read this book and of course read the first memoir as well. Enjoy his life and be entertained by insanity!
Can’t believe this type of book allowed to publish and even made to a movie. This guy was a criminal without any shame and probably still is based on what has been said about his doing after he was out from prison in the internet.
A motivational speaker! You must be joking! This guy is the worst kind of a society. Total shameless with what he has done, in the contrary, he was proud of what he has done. He has absolutely no respect to women kind, other than his mother, not even his wife. I am wondering if he has ever thought if the world is full of men like him, what kind of future his beautiful and smart daughter would have!
I am 1/5 through the book. I don’t think thereis any point to finish it.
