A pleasant little book of thirty-one Christmas devotions. Interesting that most carols were drawn from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
Reminds us that not all church music has been stuffy and hymn-like. Carols, easy to remember and sing, were the "praise music" of their day, and not restricted to just Christmas.
I wanted to like this book more than I did. I liked the way each chapter was laid out starting with a Christmas hymn then the background. Verses following and a prayer but I don’t know it just didn’t grab me. It was well written and I think would appeal to people with a musical background more than I have. Some of the hymns were unknown and I would love to hear the music that goes with them. One was an Amy Grant song that I am familiar with her music but not that song. If you are looking for a devotional advent book leading up to the Christmas season you might try this it might be your kind of book. It just wasn’t mine.
I chose this book as an Advent read and loved it. Each day I read a Christmas carol, paired with Scripture and a thoughtful reflection. Some of the carols were new to me, while others were longtime favorites, and the devotions were meaningful. It was a great way to prepare my heart for Christmas.
