This fic made me go into a big 3 am thinky over fanfic and why I like it. Something about characters, and how you think you know them, but then some fanfic writer comes along and takes all their personality traits, personal history and emotions and creates a characterization that's the same person and yet different and convincing and...yeah, let's just say this fic surprised me. I thought I was getting fucktastic Destiel and really it's a character study (+ fucktastic Destiel). Dean made me cry.

Also, I don't know jackshit about the BDSM lifestyle but it felt like the author did way more research than a lot of the published BDSM books I've read.



My only real compliant is that the fic is so Dean-centric I wanted more Castiel.

Really liked it, even though it's a lot less hard and dark than I usually prefer my BDSM. Generally I get off on abusive relationships misusing BDSM, but I think even Steelwhisper would like the dynamic of these guys together. Cas is a hell of a Dom, and the vivid imagery of him all unruffled and cool in his perfect crisp business shirts did something to my pants. The story made me cry, although I still think it could have been cut by 30%, easy, and still had the same impact.

So I've never watched even one entire episode of Supernatural, but loved this story. It stands on its own, though I'm sure fans enjoy nuances I blithely ignored reading this. Sweet and loving D/s relationship with some deep soul searching and self-acceptance on Dean's part.

Okay, so I DNF'd this at ~60% a few days ago. Then I had a change of heart and read the rest of the fiction, LOL. What can I say? I was in the holiday spirit...

Anyways, my original complaint about this story still stands: it is a slooooow buuuurn. And not in the good way. The chapters had a certain predictability: Jensen is content for a day (or so), some family problem occurs, Cas finds out and makes Jensen feel better. Repeat for multiple chapters. Where did my story go?

Well, about 65-70% into the story, things started actually happening! And I'm not being sarcastic or anything, but it was actually pretty good (I might have shed a tear or two).

Probably 30% of the story could have been trimmed and things would have still been fine. Oh well - when all is said and done, this one was actually pretty good if you don't mind the repetitive chapters.

A sweet Supernatural fanfic with Dean working as a paid submissive to Dom Castiel in order to pay for Sam's college. Told in the present tense from Dean's pov. Good one, I enjoyed it..

'"I want you to look at me," Cas says. "I want you submissive, but I don't want you meek. You don't need to hide yourself from me."
That's a new one, and Dean is uncomfortable with the eye contact; it seems too personal, too intimate, but this job is pushing the boundaries of too close.'

I thought this could have been trimmed a bit...a lot, actually. I was tempted to stop at 60% but reviews said it picked up shortly after that, so I plowed through. I should have loved it. I wanted to. But Dean's hand wringing and spectacularly relentless insecurities got on my nerves.

Die Charaktere waren alle sehr gut geschildert, nur Cas habe ich nicht richtig erkannt. Dean's Kopf war manchmal sehr deprimierend, aber alles in allem eine ganz gute Fanfiction. Und lasst euch nicht von diesem Cover abschrecken!

It is hilarious to me that this is in goodreads. It probably shouldn't be but it is. I read this fic twice and the cover is one of my favorite pieces of fanart EVER so seeing it proudly exhibited next to established works like Jane Eyre and Twilight just tickles me, I'm sorry.
I kind of did a review on my tumblr for a fic masterpost thing so I will copy and paste that riiiiiiight here:

Okay motherfuckers, you know how to really make my day? Fucking sub!Dean. Sub!Dean might be my favorite character focus point ever. It’s canon. It’s compelling, what with his whole needs-control/must-be-careteaker all the time, for him to relinquish control to someone he trusts in the bedroom. It fits in with his character. One of the best examples of this is in this fic and it’s kinda long so I’ve only read it twice but I’ve skipped around to my favorite parts a bunch. It’s also kind of dark and heavy so head warnings at the beginning of every chapter but this is just beautiful and Dean is perf and Cas is perf and this fan-art is one of my favorites of all fucking time and this is just really weirdly comforting to me.

...yeah most of that makes more sense in blog form that goodreads review...
Oh well, I speak only truths.

I really liked this story, and the smut was just pefect! But towards the end, it got a little boring to be honest. Smut forgotten and the ending, though sweet and domestic felt rushed. But still 4 stars for this story and I'm glad I've read it :)
