River has always been seen as the obedient omega, destined to fulfill society's expectations. But on the eve of her 23rd birthday, everything changes. Determined to reclaim her own destiny, River sneaks out to a club to lose her virginity before being bound to Conan, a powerful alpha, demanding her, but things rarely go according to plan. As River finds a stranger to explore new territory with her, she stumbles upon her true alpha mate. Their connection is undeniable, awakening a passionate fire within her that cannot be contained. But with the discovery of her true mate comes a whirlwind of challenges and dilemmas. Caught between her yearning for freedom and the weight of tradition, River must confront the choices that will shape her future. Will she follow her heart's desires, defying the norms that confine her? Or will duty and obligation force her down a path she never desired?
All I can say is I'm glad I got this book for free!!! River is probably one of the most annoying FMCs I've ever read! It's at least 60% of the book of constant whining! I understand that the author has the idea here that the FMC's will look strong, but what she has instead succeeded in doing is the exact opposite!
The Alpha Got Me was an okay but one-time read type of story for me. This is not a book I would personally recommend to my friends. I wanted to love this story as it started off good and had me intrigued in River and Conan's story. However, River quickly killed that interest for me with all of her childish behavior. I get that she didn't want to be mated to an Alpha because she wanted her freedom but there was no need for her to act so immature. Over half of the story was her throwing tantrums and it wasn't long before I started disliking her character. I loved Conan and he truly had the patience of a saint when it came to River because she was over the top and just doing too much. There was a bit of family drama, suspense, steamy scenes, surprises and more but to be honest this story didn't leave me excited to read the next book in the series which I have. I actually purchased all of the books in the series before reading this one. I will give the next book a try just because it's different characters but if the lead female character is as childish as this one it will be a loss on my part because I will delete all 6 books off my kindle. I really wanted to love this story, but it just wasn't the story for me.
It started very good. I enjoyed the banter between River and Conan.
However the build up of the romance was not executed well. The romantic feelings occurred out of nowhere and were not based on any acts beside verbal assurances and physical attraction. There was a lot of telling instead of showing. The erotic scenes lacked spice and romance, focused more on the physical act.
The last 30 percent I was skimming because the tension evaporated after the mating.
Also the showdown was too rushed and the villain was cartoonish.
The author surely has talent. My review may seem harsh but in the genre wolf shifter romance I often do not finish the book because they are often too similar and the writing is not good. So that I got past the first 30% of the book, is already a compliment. Still I won't continue the series.
I have all the books in this series on kindle and I’m honestly not sure if I’m going to read them. This book just didn’t quite meet my expectations. I found the female lead to be childish, which I thought would add some comedy, but the dialogue was lacking. There’s so many different ways some of these conversations could’ve went without giving off high school considering they’re supposed to be in their 20s. I also noticed the book’s POV tends to go from 3rd person to narrator in the middle of a paragraph. Super confusing! I believe it was a cute story it was just incomplete in so many ways.
I picked this ebook up on Amazon for free. It was a fast paced fated mates story it took me a minute to get in to. but I did find the plot interesting and I no they say never judge a book by its cover but because of the cover I was expecting a slightly different dynamic between characters which I think may be why it took a minute to get in the story but by the end of the book I really liked both the main characters
I have to say Anne really has another hit on her hands with The Alpha Got Me, Book one of Claimed by Alphas is just a wonderful gripping, sensual book. The love/hate bond between Conan and River is just explosive. I love how she wants more than her omega tied to her alpha and how he wins her trust and her love to submit to him. This book will truly have you wanting more, Can’t wait to read book two about Winter!
It was fine. I used this as my right-before-bed book, and I felt it was easy to follow even though I would fall asleep reading every night.
I thought the length was perfect! I did get annoyed by the overuse of exclamation points when River spoke, but I felt as a character that she annoyed me less at the end.
I enjoyed this story. I'm not a big fan of Omega books but this one had a strong Omega with a great Alpha. The story moved well and had some nice twists that kept me turning pages. A satisfactory conclusion with plenty of characters for more stories.
Got this for free on stuff your kindle day along with others in the series. Okay but the FMC did get annoying and the storyline was just okay. Probably will pick up the next one because I have it but can’t say this is a series I am dying to continue.
Okay storyline but a horrible FMC and so many grammar and spelling mistakes it really made it difficult for me to read. River was just sooo unbearable the entire book and was so childish.
This is a pretty easy read with some good spicy scenes. The first 10 chapters were pretty repetitive with the “will they won’t they” theme but overall I liked the story
I enjoyed my first read but I didn't fall in love with the series and probably won't be reading any of the books that come after. I also cannot see myself re-reading this book any time soon, if ever. The FMC was so childish and I understand not wanting to get tied down and wanting independence but the woman is 23 and acts like a 16 year old for most of the story. It just felt so immature and not that fun in the end.
Could not finish, stopped at 30% (page 87) I could not stand River’s personality. She came off as a spoiled brat who did nothing but talk down on everyone around her. And the fact she’s willing to mentally break her soulmate? No recovering from such horrible character traits, in my opinion.
The attempt to make River looks strong and independent failed miserably. She comes off as immature and whiny in her aim to prove herself. I wish she had more character development and goals instead of 'I want my freedom' being her go-to line every time she threw a pointless tantrum. Conan is a little more bearable but only slightly.
Structurally, I hated that every time it changed pov we got a recap of everything that just happened in the last pages. There was so little character development that the recap felt like just space filler and useless.
On the plus side, it is a really quick read. I won't be recommending.
***Kidnapping*** ***Arranged Marriage*** ***Fated Mates*** ***Enemies to Lovers***
I enjoyed this book. It's the first time I've read anything by this author, and although the book cover is a little deceiving it kept my interest. I loved the angst and banter between River and Conan. I will most definitely continue with this series.
