Five months after Evie Parker’s disappearance, Delaney Jones is dangerously close to leading a normal life with a cancer-free mother, a successful career, and a gorgeous, loving boyfriend. But there’s one hitch: she breathes, sleeps, and eats under the watchful eyes of Holston Parker, a villainous billionaire.
The spring semester at Leighton University has ended, and Delaney is determined to rid Holston from her life – for good. As she digs deeper to uncover his secrets, she finds a tangled web of police corruption and mysterious disappearances. And when the grand opening of Parker Tower brings her mother face-to-face with Holston Parker, her family’s buried past threatens to emerge. Just as Delaney thinks she’s on her own, Evie returns to finish what she started. But time is running out as Holston is about to make his final move, stopping at nothing to get what he wants.
Raen Smith is the author of the Unraveled Series and Southbound Surrender. She loves writing about complex characters with a sprinkling of happily ever after.
When she isn't writing novels, she spends her time wrangling two small sons and teaching at a technical college. She lives in a small corner of Wisconsin with her husband and two sons.
I love reading books in a series. I purchased House of Fire, realized it was the second in a series and purchased House of Steel, book 1. Within 4 days I had finished books 1 and 2. I just purchased book 3 and am anxious to start it. Great story. I recommend it
I actually read the House of Fire and it's preceding novel House of Steel back to back so forgive me if I'm a little vague on the details here. Since I read them so close together I am having a hard time separating the two because the author Raen Smith wrote them in such a way that I thought the transition between the two was wonderful.
This novel again has Delaney the heroine from the first novel House of Steel to the front of a suspense filled sequel. Just like in the first novel Delaney is trying to uncover secrets that people are determined to keep hidden.
In this novel I felt that we were able to get to know Delaney more. I thought that I had her all figured out when I finished the first book but boy was I ever wrong because her family has a plethora of secrets that are demanding to be unleashed and I don't know about you but I love a novel where family secrets are a key plot point. I also enjoyed the fact that we were able to get to know a couple of the characters from the first novel that were more secondary then a little more.
Just as the first one was this one had me on the edge of my seat when I read it. I don't read suspense novels all that often even though I love them I just tend to space them apart a little more but with this one I had to read it right after I finished the first because I just couldn't wait to find out what Raen had in store for her heroine Delaney. This one was filled with even more plot twists, drama and intrigue than the first one.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this second installment to Raen Smith's Unraveled series and I can't wait to finally get to the third novel in the series to see what else the author has in store for me. I was so glad when I began reading this one to find that it actually lived up to the first novel in the series so well.
Just like the first novel in the series I would recommend this novel to people who have read the first book as well as to fans of thrillers and suspense novels that are really dark and dramatic and reads that will keep you glued to the pages of the story, desperate to keep reading to see what's going to happen next.

Wow holy smoke when i read house of steel i felt in love with this story. Now i don’t know which one i love more, i am gone keep this short because i don’t want to give anything away, you just gone have to read it to find out. This book had me seating at the edge of my seat, this book is so full of secrets and mysteries and dough. the story begging six months after everything happened in the first book, seriously i though that all the secrets where done but guess again they were not even far from finish with the secrets. Every time i though that their where no more secret it just kept throwing me a different curveball. Love the characters and how they got too developed more into their role play. love the character of Delaney how she grow more in this book than the first, Delaney started taking lesson and taking her role more serious, let me just say that she was preparing herself for whenever she needed to defend herself and that what i love about it she became more strong and her attitude turn into i don’t give a shit what u think, i love how she end up in this story. I love how it was from both point of view and how this book end it. Once again i want to thank author Raen Smith for introducing me to this amazing characters and this amazing book. Can’t wait to read more of her books
This book was so intense! It is definitely a suspense novel because the suspense was never-ending.
So many secrets came out, a past you would not believe was revealed (I cried), a man trying so hard to be redeemed, but still just so bad and doing things the wrong way time and again, and two kick-ass girls trying to get to the bottom of it and end all the insanity.
The second book in this series was a lot more personal than the first book. In the first, Delaney was dealing with demons on the outside and people were paying the price for her "sins." In this book, everything is about her past, her family's past and the secrets that should have never been.
The ending was so intense, I was shaking with nerves at everything that was going on. Its characters seemed so real, and James, at the end... OMG, I could not stop laughing at his shock and awe and confusion over the female species being more "protector" than himself. I laughed so hard at the wit in certain scenes pertaining to James at the end. Poor guy.
Wow. Just wow. This was one intense book. It didn’t take long at all for the action to ramp up and, just like in the first book (possibly even more so!), the tension just kept building and building until you thought you were going to burst. There were a few times when I could easily predict what was going to happen next, but for each point I figured out the author threw me at least three curveballs. I really liked the fact that Delaney wasn’t taking anything lying down. She really grew into her own in the second addition to Raen Smith’s Unraveled series. By the finish, my questions were answered and the ending was spectacular. I was entirely happy with how the story turned out. I can’t really say anything else without entering into spoiler territory. What are you waiting for? Go read!
Note: I received a complimentary copy of this book in return for my honest review.
O. M. G. If you read The first book, House_of_Steel, you were left hanging with tons of questions of the unknown. Well this book House Of Fire, answers those questions... I stayed on the edge of my seat the whole time I read it, BIG surprises in the truth. Things you thought you figured out... Nope, you were wrong. As V comes back to avenge all the deaths her daddy has caused, she also brings back some uncovered secrets that add more to the questions: What does Holston want with Delaney and Ann, why all this killing to begin with? And who is Cherry and what does she have to do with all this? Then a secret picture of a sweet face little boy is found inside the box Ann put her wedding ring in for Delaney, who is he, and why when shown the picture does Ann's face lose all it's color... Why does Ann run off and disappear, does Holston have Ann, is he going to kill her too?!?
"Once again the story weaves a web of intrigue that has you unable to put the book down. Tension builds slowly in the beginning chapters but by the end of the book you are ready to combust. The ending is spectacular giving the reader enough to feel satisfied with the conclusion but still hungry enough to want to read a little more." - Iva
I was so excited for this book, as House of Steel left me wanting to know what was going to happen. This book answered all my questions, plus gave some answers I didn't even know I wanted. It also gave a great deal of character development. I liked that the author waited until the second book to do that. The creativity it took to create the story line in this series is astounding. I am very curious where this all takes us with the next book. Looking forward to what Raen Smith produces next!
House of Fire is Raen Smith's second book in the Unraveled series. House of Fire is an action-packed, page-turning, don't want to put it down kind of book. It's fun to follow Smith's cast of characters through their harrowing adventures.
See my review for House of Steel. Raen is a very talented writer and her development of her many characters in this story is wonderful. I loved the suspense and the guessing of a who dunit and who is involved game that this story delivers. I cant wait to read more from this author.
Loved this book more than the first! A fast-paced read that picks up where book one left off. Many twists and turns and love connections all tied together in a firey little package.
I enjoyed the second installment of this series. More of the story unravels, questions are answered and you finally find out everything you need to know.
