Ruidoso Road is the story of life in a small town; rural and raw, going through post war growing pains, where hard work was the only way up or out. People were real there. They had personalities. Their lives intertwined and meshed in an intricate tapestry of love and hate and faith. Family pets were just family. God was welcome at the dinner table. Neighbors got involved in each other's lives whether they wanted to or not. You;ll be introduced to Jake and Trudy at the core; solid and dependable farmers whose love for God and each other was as impenetrable as a rock. And there was Eileen, a quiet widow who buried her horse and her husband and went on to find happiness in the twilight of her life.. Of course there was Johnny, the lonely rodeo cowboy with his rough edges and his penchant for Jack Daniels whiskey contrasted by the Mikotos who overcame the horrors of an internment camp and raised a fine son. There was spoiled Billy Pratt and his over-indulgent parents. And there was the Conner family; evil, sadistic Buster and his battered wife Mary, and little Jenny whose life see-sawed in and out of everyone's lives until she finds true love.
Award winning novelist and poet, J.A. Snow embarked on an incredible journey several years ago when she began translating sixty generations of her family genealogy into a series of historical novels. The first complete series, is called An American Family; five consecutive books of history of the Snow family from their medieval roots in Porlock, England all the way up to the Dust Bowl of the 1930's in America. She tells the story of her 11th generation great grandmother who crossed the Atlantic on the Mayflower with the original Pilgrims and takes the family through several wars and devastating epidemics. Just launched last year, her new series, The Viking Sagas, tells of her ancestors in ancient Kvenland begins with A Dynasty of Giants, the story of three boys who become obsessed with the Norse god Odin, and, as they grow older, sets them up for a deadly competition over territorial rights. In the second book, The Sea Kings, readers will meet exciting characters such as Rognvald the Wise, and King Harald Fairhair. Rollo, who founded Normandy, William Longsword and Richard the Fearless are coming in 2018 in the third book The Pagan Princes. Her books are steeped in real history and real people.
This story goes straight to the heart as the reader is taken down Ruidoso Road and into the lives of the people there. The most important is Jenny whose life isn't a bed of roses. A senior in high school her dad is a mean drunk and her mom is unable to get away from him. Luckily for Jenny she has Trudy as a friend. Trudy and her husband Jake run a dairy farm. As the story unfolds the reader meets other characters and steps in their sometimes good sometimes tragic lives. Great book that tells a tale of life, love and heartache.
