Author Bio via Less Than Three Press

J. Hepburn lives with his partner, several kilts, an Irish Wolfhound, two cats, an indeterminate number of wild birds and, sometimes, a passing python. He cares enough about coffee to not only grind his own, but roast it first. This says a lot about him, some of it complimentary. He rides a motorbike because it’s fun, and wishes they’d hurry up with a genetic cure for short sight.

He writes because otherwise the words come out when he’s not expecting them to, and likes to explore any genre with “speculative” in the name. He’s been writing for more than a decade but only submitting for a couple of years, which was a mistake he doesn’t intend to repeat. He thinks romance is more interesting than violence and a lot more morally defensible, not to mention fun.

A short erotic and heartwarming about two male vampires recovering from trauma. Granted this story would probably worked better if became a full-blown novel where they figure out the mystery of their origins instead of it being solved in just a few pages. But i liked it

The beginning of this book was hard to wade through. It's a lot of scattered scenes, without much background information, and a lot of boring glossed over, not very interesting sex. Neither MC has a personality at that point, so I never managed to remember who was who, if it mattered.

We finally get some world building - apparently neither MC knows anything really, so that's why it was absent before - from some Sheriff dude. This is where it fell off the rails for me though.

We find out that the Ithel vampire is like totally lost in the sauce, and the other one isn't doing a whole lot better, and that seems to be due to them getting abandoned by their sires. So they don't know anything, are messed up, and just kind of trying to survive. Okay, hot mess. Onwards.

The one with a brain still functioning gets this lecture from said Sheriff vampire about all the things they should know and should have done, but ......the Sheriff and his second (?) get mad at MC2 for...not knowing anything. Or not taking care of Ithy vampire who has lost all marbles. Even though he didn't know how to? And still doesn't know anything? And did a pretty good job all things considered? Oh his name is Sasha. Okay. Why is ithl Sasha's responsibility? He isn't his sire.

I got lost wondering what the heck was going on, and then learned what was going on, and then got lost again trying to understand the nonsensical reactions/actions of the vampires in the know. It sure seems like they could have stepped in at any point along the way. They knew about the incidents. They found them asap after the last murder. But nooo, it's the responsibility of Sasha (who loves ithel for some reason? unknown) to corral the feral vampire.

Overall.....????
