Choices is definitely a seductive tale of love, lust and obsession. I like reading love stories that are passionate and complicated. Chick lits seldom work for me. I want honest, graphic and emotive love stories because love and desire are not always sweet and beautiful. It can also be brutal and ugly. That is reality.

I can truly feel what the main character Kristine has been going through because I have experienced unrequited love a lot of times already in my life. I read the book with hunger and excitement because it clearly depicts some of what I have experienced in reality. I am a masochist and I see Kristine is also a masochist in a way because she suffers a lot because of the choices and decisions she makes for herself.

I finished the whole book in one go because it really caught my interest. I was dying to know what would happen next. The climax of the story was very surprising and for me, effective. But one thing that I can comment is that the ending was too abrupt. I feel that it is not as strong as the potential of the whole book. Maybe a sequel can fully explain the questions that are left hanging in my mind after reading the book. I will be looking forward for that and I hope the author will finish one soon.

I recommend this book if you want a darker side of love.

What is the book about?

Doesn't every girl dream of the perfect man she will eventually meet one day. Well, Kristine Alexander was one of those girls with the big dream and her best friend Linda is trying to set her up with her boyfriend, Davis' brother, Dennis. Kristine gets to know her new admirer through email and phone conversations but she wants to meet him. Kristine and Linda both make the trip to Los Angeles to see Davis and Dennis even though Kristine has no expectations of falling in love with Dennis. Of course she enjoys talking for hours on the phone with him but she just wasn't sure it was going to be anything special once they finally met in person. Dennis of course tells her right away that they could never end up falling in love because he was expected to fall in love with someone wealthy. Flying back home she encounters some horrible events that will change her outlook on life forever!

What did I think of the book?

A typical chick book with the Princess looking for her Prince. You don't expect the horrific experience that happens to Kristine and your outlook on her will change once you find out how she copes and deals with it. It was an amazing read that I will probably end up reading again in a few months. I was taken along such a crazy ride with this book I hope the author decides to write more about this character.

Choices: A Novel by Martha Kennerson was very hard to put down. It was well written and although the author did say it was a work of fiction she also said it was based in part of personal experience. I am not sure which part is fiction but this whole story could be totally true as it was believable.

The main character is Kristine who finishes high school and spends time with her aunt before she goes off to college. She ends up falling in love with a man that she could never have a future with. When he leaves the pain and heartbreak is almost too much for her. Between her friends and family she manages to pull her life together enough to go off to college however with her broken heart still mending some choices she makes are devastating and life altering.

Following Kristine, her friends and family you can't help but feel connected to her like she is one of your friends too. When she was happy and in love, I was happy and when she cried, I cried. It was like re-living that lost love that I imagine most of us females had at least once in our lives when we 'found the one' or at least at the time we thought 'he was the one' and our worlds came crashing down. Then off to college and who can't forget the ride to campus and moving in, meeting your roommate for the first time? Unfortunately there are other things that come with it and that is the parties, drinking, and for some drugs. College life is not simple and for some their personal life 'alters' which makes them wonder if staying in school to pursue their dreams is the answer.

I know the way I am reviewing it, it may sound boring but it is not. I simply don't want to say too much to create any spoilers but believe me it is one of those books you don't want to put down. The story is interesting from start to finish with the characters being introduced nicely and without so much details that it goes off course. The story moves at a great pace and never gets boring with a cliff-hanger ending.

I recommend this easy enjoyable read and think that most young female adults would really like it.

Every girl dreams of the perfect man she will meet one day. Kristine Alexander did just that. Her best friend Linda and her boyfriend Davis wanted to have Kristine meet Davis’ brother, Dennis. Kristine and Dennis spent quite a few weeks emailing and talking on the phone before Linda and Kristine made a trip to Los Angeles to see the boys in person.

Kristine had no expectations of falling in love, even though the weeks on the phone went well. They found they liked talking to each other, and would do so for hours. Once Kristine met Dennis, her entire world changed. She had never met someone so perfect before. Even though she had been dating Mitch back in Texas, Dennis was someone completely different. When they first met, Dennis told Kristine right away that they could never fall in love. He was from a wealthy oil family and was expected to marry into another wealthy family and marry their daughter, Mary. Love never goes as planned, they fell in love with each other. Kristine was crushed when Dennis had to go on tour. She went back to Texas and began college. Determined not to sulk forever, she decided she needed to change. Unfortunately, not for the best. Out partying one night, she was raped. Luckily her roommate, Connie, called Linda, who came to help Kristine get help. You’ll have to read for yourself to see what happens to Kristine.

Very well written with descriptions so vivid you can see what the author sees. Great mix of characters, good friends and a supportive family. With an ending to keep you wanting more.

Choices features a rather interesting story and I might be curious enough to read the sequel to find out what happens next to the heroine Kristine. However, this book is in need of quite a bit of editing. It was not well-written, and the constant errors and odd conversation kept taking me out of the story.
