When you need a Witchy boyfriend but not a real one.
Luca Belmonte is sick of being set up. All his father wants is for Luca to marry well, to progress his career and standing in Witch society. Luca wants to be left alone. He’s overwhelmed with work and needs a plan to get his father off his back.
Finding his own boyfriend seems like the best solution, except Luca won’t risk the rejection that comes with real dating, no matter how much he wants to be in love. A fake relationship sounds better, if he can find someone to play along.
Yet somehow his friend Marci convinces him to go on one last date…
Theo Landon is in a dating rut, that’s the only reason he agrees to a blind date. He takes a chance and his date is hot. Charming. A man from his past he never wants to see again. The night is an epic disaster. But Theo has a secret. He’s been lying to almost everyone about being in a steady relationship and when he gets spotted with Luca assumptions get out of hand.
So the two agree to fake it, just for a while.
Only Luca isn’t the bad guy Theo thought. He’s just the Witch Theo needs, especially when things start to go wrong at his apothecary shop. So what happens when there’s nothing fake about the feelings growing between them?
Witch Boyfriend Wanted is a low angst fake-dating mm paranormal romance. HEA guaranteed! It is the fourth book in the Love & Magic series but can be read as a stand alone. Each book features a different couple. While the books are best enjoyed in order if you intend to read them all, this book has the fewest series spoilers.
Colette (she/they) is an author of queer paranormal romance novels living in New Zealand. Colette loves to write couples who take care of each other and show their soft sides in love, even when they’re prickly in other facets of their lives. Sugar, spice, and magic are key ingredients in all of Colette’s books.
Like the previous book in the series, this was a super cozy, fun read.
The relationship was very low angst and comforting. I loved that this book turned out to be a real teaching moment for setting boundaries with family members and learning to communicate your needs to a partner 😂
Overall I enjoyed the book, it’s a little bit too low angst for my tastes and the mystery side of the story let it down for me. The conclusion and motivates to it all didn’t really make sense to me and was a bit disappointing.
I couldn’t get enough of this story, it’s so engagingly written. There’s some fine subtle magic, almost as if it’s reality. The way of writing gives you a wonderful impression of what’s going on.
In very very short words: Lucas and Theo both need a fake boyfriend. They met years ago and from Theo’s point of view, Luca left a bad impression. He hated him for years. Luca is completely unaware of this. A blind date brings them together, Theo is hostile and Luca is confused. But… they end up as fake boyfriends. Theo has to reconsider his opinion because Luca is nothing he thought he was.
Between their encounters and their sweet blooming relationship, there’s more going on, there’s a mysterious crystal, work issues, family matters, nightmares, and matters with magic. All super intriguing! It’s a world of Witches, with Theo’s magic Apothecary, and all completely convincing, I was there, I saw it and felt it.
I never read something from this author before, provided there are no other pen names, I found this read fabulous just like the original magic, and I really loved the comfortable subtle writing style.
DNF, but I know I just wasn't in the mood, even though this had some weird stuff going on in the writing.
First, I felt there were holes in the story, for a fake dating trope, the characters spend a lot of time apart. So when the author reunite them, is weird
Second, there is a lot of inner monolog, not much doing.
Third, since we don't get to see them together much, it feels insta love.
I think this book might be my favorite book in the series. Two anxious babies working through their insecurities by communicating their needs or saying that they weren't sure. The tenderness was sugary sweet in all the best possible ways. The magic was slightly different than the other books, more elemental, so I'm curious to learn more about that in the next books. The mystery like the other books was a bit rushed but it made sense. Colette Rivera knows how to write a simp so you have to be ok with a non macho MMC. Our favorites were back Aria (no owen), Juliette, Mea, and Bickel. I can't wait for the next book in this series 😍
Thank you to the author for providing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
CN: workplace burnout, manipulative ex, dating anxiety, strained family relationships, break-in, harassment
The final book in the Love and Magic series by Colette Rivera, Witch Boyfriend Wanted, was everything I needed and more!
Things I loved: 💚 MM witchy romance 💚 Mr Sexy Lawyer x Sweetie Pie Apothecary 💚 Steamy foraging in the woods 💚 Fake dating 💚 A magical teapot 💚 A mystery to solve 💚 The most tender romance 💚 The build up of tension
Thoughts: The books in this series just keep getting better and better! This is Luca and Theo’s story, which starts out a bit rocky, with a miscommunication from the past, some commitment issues and a fake dating scheme. It doesn’t take long for Luca and Theo to see the softer sides of each other and slowly fall in love. Their communication and honesty was so beautiful and Colette is SO good at building up the tension through little moments, like grazing fingers and touching each other’s hair and sweet smiles. I loved them so much! Luca is closed off and overwhelmed by the expectations placed upon him from his cold and demanding parents. He tells himself he doesn’t want a relationship, but it’s so clear that he just wants to be loved for who he is. Enter Theo, the sweetest little bean. He owns an apothecary and is extremely talented in Earth magic (in a magic system which I found so intriguing!). He faces pressure from his family about his introverted lifestyle and is hesitant to attempt anything romantic with another person thanks to his awful ex. Bam, fake dating!
Another thing Colette does so well is including a mystery subplot in her stories. This one involved a mysterious crystal, a creepy customer and a stolen magical tea pot. I loved how not only was there a wonderful cast of characters involved in helping Theo solve this mystery, but he also had help from Aria, Juliet, Mea and my one true love, Edwin Bickel. It was so fun to have them all together!
If you are in the mood for something witchy, mysterious, cozy, romantic and fun, I highly recommend you give the Love and Magic series a go! This is book 4 in a series of interconnected standalones, with a wonderful cast of queer characters and delicious magical elements!
This was such a sweet read. Like, rot your teeth out sweet. Low in conflict and high in fluff, Luca and Theo are adorable. Seeing Theo come out of his shell after a bad previous relationship is so heartwarming, and Luca growing out of needing his father's approval was great. The character designs and overall aesthetic of the book is gorgeous, with a magic system that's unique but not so much though that it takes half the book's word count just to explain it. I absolutely love Luca's hand tattoos.
This is a book driven by the characters' emotional journeys. There's a lot of introspection, which sometimes gets a bit long, but it often leads to important conversations between the characters as our MCs communicate their needs not just to each other but also the people around them, learning to form boundaries and call attention to the hurtful behavior of family members. Low in spice but has plenty more to offer with two lovable main characters and all the warm, fuzzy feelings you could ask for.
I feel the story could have benefited from a proofread, as there were some missing words, words that were missing letters, and a few "to"s that should have been "too"s, but this certainly isn't anything that would keep me from recommending this to anyone looking for a cozy, feel-good romance. This was a lovely, touching read!
I think most people will love this one, it just didn't quite work for me. It's extremely sweet. Like too much. Sure there's family drama and even a curse, but it just felt so surface level. I can't really explain it, but it didn't give me any feelings. Again, I think most people will love it though and I just personally didn't click. Also, while the relationship does work as a standalone, I'm not sure the book as a whole does. There's not really a good explanation of the magic system and I'm assuming that's because it's book 4.
This magical world has captivated me time after time and I just love the blend of magic with the mystery, so it is no surprise that I continue to love this series.
Luca and Theo find themselves benefiting of fake relationship for their own reasons. Both trying to battle with insecurities and navigating external pressures, such as conforming to familial expectations without considering their own desires or establishing boundaries within their families. They struggled to communicate their discomfort for a long time, but as their fake relationship continues a beautiful relationship blossoms. Full of honesty and unconditional support for one another, they rely on each other to break free from expectations and stand up for their own happiness.
Luca and Theo's relationship is so darling both are looking for the comfort that they provide each other and it was just amazing how much you could feel that as the story went on. I also didn’t think a scene with pancakes would get me so emotional and somehow Colette got me right in the heart. I just wanted to hug them and I loved the cozy cabin and woody imagery it was just perfection paired with a great family, ugh my heart!
While this is part of a series, this one didn’t have any major spoilers for the other books. If you are looking for super sweet and cozy romance, with a hint of mystery I highly recommend you pick this one up.
Thank you Colette for letting me read this in advance, I couldn’t wait to jump back into this world and it was an excellent visit.
This series has been such a joy to read, and this final installment was no different. These books make for the perfect cosy comfort reads with plenty of romance, and a good dash of magic and mystery.
Fake dating will probably always work for me, and I loved Theo and Luca so so much. I especially related to Theo, being such an introvert and finding it hard to open up to people. While there is a mystery plotline in this story, the book felt so cosy and the romance was so sweet, making this an extremely comforting read.
I’m so happy to be back in the Love & Magic universe with Witch Boyfriend Wanted! In this installment we get to know Luca & Theo as they strike a bargain, solve a mystery, grow as individuals and find their HEA! 🖤
Colette Rivera has created such a cozy series filled with the most lovable characters, delicious beverages and swoon worthy romance! It has truly become one of my comfort series and I cannot wait to see what will happen next!
This is book four of the Love & Magic series and the main characters are magical lawyer Luca Belmonte, and apothecary shop owner Theo Landon. Luca is fed up of having his father set him up with other men, who he believes will further Luca’s rise in the magical elite of witch society. He is also wondering if he truly wants to remain in his job, as he is expected to work there seven days a week and work late every day. He hasn’t really done any relationships and wants to be left alone, but his father just doesn’t get the message. He talks to his best friend Marci and thinks he needs a fake boyfriend to get his father off his back! Instead Marci suggests he has a blind date with another friend of hers, Theo. Neither man really wants to go on this blind date, but maybe it will be the solution they both want. When Theo spots his blind date, he realises the handsome man is someone from her past who hurt him on a previous date back when they were both in college! It is a bit of a disaster of a date, but once they start talking to each other, assumptions on Theo’s side back in the day, are explained by Luca and he apologises for any hurt he felt back then. When Luca mentions he had told Marci he needed a fake boyfriend, she had fixed him up with Theo, knowing he wasn’t a one night stand type and that they could be really good for each other! But Theo has been keeping his own secret as he has been telling his family and friends that he has a boyfriend already, hoping his siblings would stop harassing him about is social life and dating history.
Perhaps they can help each other, now the past has been cleared. Before the date can even end, Theo is spotted by his ex-Jason, who hurt him badly when they broke up. Jason comes over and tries to push Theo to come to his wedding, rubbing in the fact he has moved on. Theo never told his friends or family just how horrid Jason had been to him when he broke up with him, calling him useless and more. It completely knocked his confidence and he has kept to himself even more than usual. He is also pushed to bring Luca to his mother’s birthday, which is a huge one, but tries to excuse Luca saying he might be working! Luca agrees to go to Theo’s mother’s birthday bash weekend with him, even taking half a day off work to do so, which makes Theo very thankful. On the drive there, they solidify some of the facts of their fake relationship, which is supposed to have been going on for six months already. Luca is quite surprised to see how Theo’s family greet him, with his mother hugging him as soon as he crossed the threshold. Such a difference to his family! The two men begin to get on well together and Luca begins to relax and be more like his true self, he usually hides from many, especially when he was younger. Luca is invited by Theo’s mother and siblings, to come to the Winter Solstice in three months’ time, but who knows if they will still be pretending by then. The relationship soon goes from fake to being a bit of a real one, as they kiss one evening, but they decide to take it slow.
Luca is overwhelmed with work pressures when they return, as he tries to catch up, and Theo struggles with a bit of an issue at his shop. Luca has a huge decision to make about his job and what he really wants from his work life. His sister refused to go the route their father wanted and all the pressure had been on Luca to be the golden boy and marry for standing in witch society, rather than love. He has begun to realise that isn’t something he wants anymore. Theo was to call Luca if he had any more nightmares, but he hasn’t told Luca about the worrying feelings he is having in his own shop, which is usually a peaceful haven for him. He thinks it all stems from a strange customer he had in the shop the week before, but he hasn’t come back when he should have, so he can’t tell. As Luca and Theo take their relationship to the next stage and start spending nights at each other’s homes, someone takes advantage and something horribly wrong happens to Theo’s shop. Friends and family turn up to help and Theo finally gets the nerve to tell his siblings what he is feelings about how they treat him, and Luca makes a decision about his job. It seems this fake relationship becoming real, has allowed both of them to take a stand about how their families have been treating them, but they may also need to come clean about the relationship itself. It seems Marci was right about them being good for each other and it turns out to be a very unexpected HEA ending for this magical pair. A lovely match that opens up to show they have more in common than they ever would have thought from the outset. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
>I have received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.<
Overall, I enjoyed the book a lot, especially at the beginning. As someone who likes fake dating but hates miscommunication, this book was great for me. I felt the reasons for the fake relationship from both Theo's and Luca' side were valid, and I loved the honesty from both of them. It was nice to read from both of their POV's, especially when they were thinking about their insecurities and how the other person helps them get through it. Although there could've been a lot of miscommunication, the author never made it frustrating or annoying. Even if this is a low stakes cozy romance, it is by no means not deep or boring. The things this book deals with were handled very well.
- expectations we have from ourselves but also meeting other people's expectations of us. -how to navigate our insecurities in a relationship both platonic, romantic, and family. - everything your parents want you to be or doing things for yourself. - setting boundaries. (family included because family also needs to respect them)
I felt like all of these were handled extremely delicately. Even though Theo could've dealt with his family in a different way and actually communicating his needs earlier and better we can somewhat understand why he didn't, they are a loving family and they do wish him well which sometimes makes it even harder. The way Luca handles his father is another story. His father seems to only want good for Luca when it reflects good on him, too. This puts Luca in a complicated situation, and you're just rooting for him to finally make decisions for himself! I absolutely loved Theo and Luca figuring out what each of them needed and communicating their feelings, needs, and insecurities. It just fills you with happiness, and you can't help but feel proud of them. A slight thing I didn't enjoy was the crystal/ coin plot line. I don't think it was worked out well, and I genuinely could've done without it. The idea was interesting, but the wrapping up of that wasn't really satisfying. There was no real conflict, and it was a bit predictable. But it didn't take from my enjoyment as Luca and Theo have won over my heart. Reading this book was such a calming and comforting experience, and I would recommend it to everyone who needs a bit of comfort in their life.
Theo is an apothecary with an affinity for earth magic. Luca is a lawyer focused on magical law with a tie to his magic tied to his star chart. Theo and Luca meet for the second time when they are set up on a blind date by their mutual friend Marci. They had gone out on one disastrous date in college, and the blind date was heading that way until Theo’s ex-boyfriend showed up and assumed Luca was the boyfriend Theo had been pretending to have for the past six months. Luca was fine to play along, but he wanted Theo to pretend to be his fake boyfriend during a meeting with his parents, because his father won’t stop setting him up with men he doesn’t want to date.
Theo’s lie has spread to his family since his sister works with his ex, and results in Luca joining Theo for the weekend to celebrate his mother’s birthday. While away for the weekend, the two realize they like each other and decide that they want to date for real. Although they still have to pretend that they’ve been dating for longer than they actually have. However, they slowly move towards a sweet, but intimate relationship.
"Witch Boyfriend Wanted" is a captivating and heartwarming romance novel that tells the story of two male witches who lack confidence in themselves. The book is centered around a fake dating scenario that eventually turns into a genuine love story. Despite both men being witches, their magical abilities are not the focus of the story, but rather their emotional journey towards accepting themselves and each other. The steamy scenes in the book are tastefully written and depict the two characters being considerate of each other's needs, adding to the overall sweetness of the story.
The author's writing style is engaging and skillful, capturing the reader's attention from the first page. The characters are well-developed, with their strengths, weaknesses, and flaws portrayed realistically. The reader can easily connect with the characters and become invested in their story. The book's plot is well-constructed, with enough twists and turns to keep the reader engaged until the end. Overall, I highly recommend "Witch Boyfriend Wanted" to anyone looking for a well-written, captivating, and heartwarming romance novel. I rate it four stars out of five.
"Nothing in my life has ever been as good as you, Theo."
This was an utterly charming witchy romance with the fake boyfriend trope. I stayed up WAY WAY past my normal bedtime to finish this, and that is so not like me. It was just so cute! I was already looking forward to this after reading book 3, as I felt so bad for Luca after his Dad's actions in that book. I'm sorry to say his Dad did not redeem himself to me in this one, but that's okay because I felt like Luca had a ton of growth as a character because of this. He just needed something, or someone I should say, in his life to motivate him to finally stand up for himself. Thankfully for us all, Theo was just that person.
I loved how sweet this book was. How Luca and Theo's disastrous date somehow turned into them pretending to be each other's fake boyfriends. The romantic moments they kept having with one another, both worrying the other wasn't feeling it too. Luca was so supportive of Theo. He was the first person in his life to make Theo feel like someone saw the real him and that they truly liked what they saw.
"You're so fucking lovely, Theo."
Theo's parents were absolutely wonderful people. It made me so sad for Luca when he saw how caring parents were supposed to be. And even though Theo's siblings definitely needed a talking to, I did feel their hassling came from a place of love. Just because Theo would rather curl up on a Friday night and read a good book than go out to a club doesn't mean his life is boring. He was perfectly content and honestly, same Theo, same.
The mystery had me second guessing myself a few times. I don't want to give any spoilers, but I will say I hope a certain someone gets their own HEA after events of this book. My heart just hurt so bad for them. I did enjoy catching up with previous MCs, especially Edwin. I loved how earnest he was in wanting him and Luca to be friends. It shows how much he's also grown as a character. And I bet it helped that Luca and Theo were so obviously smitten with one another. I have no regrets on the loss of sleep I suffered having read this book and recommend it for those looking for a low angst and sweetly magical romance.
Luca Belmonte is unhappy with the horrible blind dates he has endured. His father is pressuring him to get married, climb the ranks in business, and become more powerful; but Luca is ready to walk away from it all. He is content where he is at work. He has no ambition left. Would a plan to get his father to leave him alone work? Could he find someone to pretend to be his steady boyfriend? So his friend Marci asks him to give it one more try before he gives up. She told him about a new dating app that other Witches were using and found some success.
Marci gets Theo Landon to meet Luca who grudgingly agreed to give the date a try. He found the table with a rose on it to identify his “date” and recognized Luca. Oddly, Luca didn’t seem to remember Theo which made Theo angrier. Was this a joke or was Theo just forgettable? He wasn’t at all happy with Marci for setting this up. His night was already ruined. Even after he told Luca this was not their first date, Luca couldn’t remember him! With some reminders, he partially remembered the date and felt bad at how he had treated Theo. Could this be their second chance? Luca felt some chemistry between them, yet Theo didn’t seem interested. Both of them had seen that college date differently, apparently misunderstanding the other’s reactions. When they got down to talking about their current date, Luca explained his situation. Both tried being honest with each other. But then someone called out “Theodore” and Theo wanted to run from the table. Theo’s ex-boyfriend Jason assumed Luca was the new boyfriend Theo had talked about having. Would Luca play along to cover for Theo? Jason was a smug jerk trying to make Theo feel bad; and Luca figured him out immediately and put him in his place by name-dropping that he was a senior associate at Ellicott & Pearson and had been too busy to accompany Theo to Jason’s engagement party that Theo was being criticized about. Finally Jason got the hint and left. Will Luca and Theo agree to fake date each other now? Can it possibly turn to something “more” as they get to know each other?
🌟🌟🌟🌟 I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and couldn’t wait to read this instalment. This story involves one of my favourite tropes – the fake relationship. Luca Belmonte is being pressured by his father to marry into a high-profile Witch family to further Luca’s career and elevate the Belmonte family into more powerful Witch circles. Luca barely has any personal time due to his all-consuming job that he hates and would rather find love in his own way rather than being constantly set up by his father for strategic matches. To avoid the hassle of yet another awkward set up Luca considers a fake boyfriend to get his father off his back. He goes on a blind date with Theo Landon. Theo is already pretending to have a boyfriend to keep his pestering siblings at bay and to save face with his ex. They agree to be each other’s back up boyfriend.
Theo is a sweet apothecary owner who is experiencing troubling issues with his shop while affection starved Luca is suffering under the relentless workload at this law firm but when the two start to spend time together (firstly to sell the fake dating rouse to both families) but then separately on their own, they quickly realise that their attraction is developing into deeper feelings. When fake boyfriends become a real-life reality Theo and Luca start to stand up for themselves with their meddling families as well as reach for the love and support, they have both sorely needed.
This story was super sweet, not heavy on the angst but had enough emotional moments and magical mystery that kept me entertained throughout. I loved Theo and Luca’s romance and how body positive and caring they were with each other. They had both been through emotional trauma and past relationship issues and it was lovely to see them blossom into one of the cutest couples I’ve read. I was also delighted to see some of my personal favourite characters from the series pop up including the mercurial Mr Bickel and the sarky but fabulous Aria. Overall, a wonderfully hopeful and mainly light-hearted addition to this great series.
Nothing like a fake romance (not so fake) with a spark of Magic! Even though this is the fourth book of the series, this is the first book I read by Colette Rivera. Let me just tell you I'm hooked by this author and her writing.
In this book we embark on the Luca Belmonte and Theo Landon story. Luca is a Witch lawyer who has been set up in blind dates by his father. The only thing Luca’s dad cares about is that Lucas' spouse should be someone that would bring more connections, and more value to the family name. A fake relationship is the best option Luca has to obtain what he desperately needs, which is to be left alone. So he goes on one last blind date.
Then we have Theo Landon, who has been lying to everyone around him by telling them he has a boyfriend. Which is a lie and that brings us to him deciding to go out on a blind date. The only problem is that when Theo goes on a blind date, he discovers that the man he meets isn't just hot and dreamy, but he is also someone from his past that he wishes to never see again.
This is where the story takes a turn, Colette shows us how sometimes misunderstandings can change the course of things, how trying to hide who you truly are can prevent you from being with who you need in your life. After this turn of events, we are introduced to fake dating to its finest, but what happens when faking it feels more like doing it right? What happens when your fake boyfriend shop is being targeted by an unknown force? What happens when you don't want it to be fake, when it doesn't feel fake anymore? What happens when you realize there's more than work to life? What happens when you are finally free from all the family expectations?
If you truly want to know all of the answers I recommend you read Witch Boyfriend Wanted, All of your questions and more would be answered in this book! Take a leap of faith and give Colette a chance to make you fall in love with Theo and Luca.
The Witch Boyfriend Wanted is the fourth book in the series, but it can be read as a stand alone.
Luca, a young Witch-Lawyer is tired of his father trying to set him up on dates as a way to further his career and cement his status as a member of a well-known Witch family.
Theo owns one of San Francisco’s most famous apothecaries, in particular famous for their magical teapot which brews the perfect cup of tea for the witch. He is scarred from a bad ex who has left him feeling unworthy to date.
When their mutual friend sets them on a blind date (which doesn’t go as expected) they come up with a plan to be each others fake boyfriend in an attempt to get their families to leave them in peace for a while.
As expected, this doesn’t go to plan, and they grow to enjoy each others company more than they expected. They help each other to come to terms with areas of their lives that they have buried, and help each other to grow.
This was an incredibly sweet book to read. It was full of moments that are swoony and very heartwarming. You can’t help but feel sorry for both Theo and Luca. Luca doesn’t have the parental support that he craves and spends more time and energy than he has trying to please his father. But with Theo’s help, maybe he can improve things, and Luca can do the same for Theo and help him realise is ex was wrong.
I really like how the magic wasn’t the main character here, it exists, but this book doesn’t make it the main thing in the characters lives. It’s very normalised, which is a difference to some of the other magic themed books I’ve read lately. And most importantly, I really really want a cup of Greywoods tea.
There is one sub plot, I guess you could call it, which I feel could have skipped, as it only added a minor point to the story, but that is the only part of this story that didn’t excite me as much
Thank you to the author for providing me an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Witch Boyfriend Wanted is the 4th book in Love & Magic series. I've thoroughly enjoyed this series, and the last book was just as delightful. These novels offer the ideal cozy comfort with abundant romance, sprinkled with magic and mystery. As a fan of fake dating but not a fan of miscommunication, this book hit the spot for me. I found the motives behind Theo's and Luca's fake relationship to be genuine, and I appreciated the honesty from both characters.
I had so many feelings while reading this and the amount of times I was giggling and kicking my feet is embarrassing... This was such a delight read! I love Colette Rivera's writing style and this magic world she created! Every character has such a unique and special voice while being so freaking relatable! Luca’s struggles hit too close to home and I didn’t know how much I needed to read some scenes… the same with some of Theo’s troubles. I feel like I'm kind of a combination of both characters plus chaos so it felt amazing to feel seen (not sure this is making any sense, sorry). I’m at a loss for words right now tbh… This book healed me so much while allowing me to explore dealing with family issues and insecurities without the risk of failing! And I can’t thank Colette enough for bringing such amazing characters to life! Their communication is just so inspiring and wholesome. And I wish everyone could communicate the way they do, I truly think we have a lot to learn from both characters.
I had so many favourite quotes and moments in this book that it's impossible to pick one....
WITCH BOYFRIEND WANTED LOVE & MAGIC BOOK 4 COLETTE RIVERA
Ten years ago, witch Theo has a bad date with hottie witch Luca at their university, and the date scars him. As does the actions of his narcissistic ex, Jason. So when mutual friend Marci - creator of witchy tech - matches them up for a date, he's at first annoyed and confronts Luca about their first date. But Luca reveals more about how he saw Theo on that failed date. Theo wishes he was still as mad at Luca as he'd been upon first seeing him at the bar, but after agreeing to be each other's fake boyfriend, and being centred by Luca's comforting touch, he's starting to rethink his original opinion about him. And now he has a crush on his fake boyfriend. Luca's ability to harness celestial magic makes him a decent catch in terms of the witch law he practices and in terms of romantic partners. With a family always obsessed with status and etiquette, Luca finds a whole different experience of family at Theo's family home, despite his meddling siblings. There is warmth there and affection, unlike the kind of welcome Luca has with his own stay status-obssesed family. Then of course there's the strange visitor to Theo's magical ingredients shop who hands him a weird colour crystal to investigate with instructions not to tell anyone. A customer who makes him very creeped out. Whilst pretending to be together for six months, the pair become closer, chemistry sparks, as well as laughter, mutual comfort and support. The scene with the hot chocolate and the pyjamas is adorable but when things heat up it gets nice and steamy. I loved this book and want to read more of Rivera's work. Fun, sweet and sexy.
This was the SWEETEST one! I have loved this entire series so much. the magical world Colette has created makes me so happy, and I loved being able to see the differences throughout each book. It’s sad to say goodbye to these characters! But I think Theo and Luca were the perfect send off 🥹
I loved that their mutual friend was convinced they’d be perfect together, and then they both needed a fake boyfriend to convince their families to leave them alone but for different reasons. They both had struggles with their families, and their families were SO different, but both men at the end of the day still struggled with how their families treated them. And I loved that they found each other and were able to really be a source of support just when they needed it the most.
And they were CUTE! Theo was so freaking SWEET. And Luca was a little more serious, but also such a freaking softie when he was with Theo. They so quickly moved from fake dating to very much real dating! I really appreciated seeing Theo feeling anxious and worried on page and then Luca comforting him and encouraging him to talk through what was happening. It was SO sweet and exactly what they both needed to build their connection.
And as always the little mystery element was a great addition! This one felt a little less serious than the past two books, but like with the others it matched the overall vibe of the book perfectly!
Thank you so much to Colette Rivera for this ARC in exchange for an honest review! I can’t wait to see what’s next!!
"Witch Boyfriend Wanted" presents a charming twist on the classic trope of a fake relationship turning into something more meaningful.
Luca, a male witch tired of his parent's relentless matchmaking, decides to take matters into his own hands by creating a fake relationship. However, in a stroke of fate, he reconnects with Theo, someone he previously had an unsuccessful blind date with.
What evolves is both Luca and Theo finding themselves in need of a faux romantic partnership to deter busybodies. Annoying busybodies and dysfunctional family members.
What follows is another chance for deeper connections. The story cleverly revisits initial misjudgments and awkward encounters, paving the way for a more authentic and organic understanding and appreciation of each other. This time without all the pressure.
However, while the premise is engaging and the character dynamics are enjoyable, the execution sometimes lacks depth. Certain aspects of the story could benefit from further exploration to fully immerse the reader into the emotional depths of the characters' journey. Additionally, the pacing occasionally feels rushed, missing opportunities for deeper character development and relationship building.
ARC provided by GRR, and I have given my voluntary review.
Witch Boyfriend Wanted is a standalone romance by Colette Rivera and is the fourth book in the Love and Magic series. You don't need to have read the previous books in the series, though some of the other characters do pop up, I've only read book three before this one, and there is more than enough context provided about characters. In fact, I was low key amused and excited to hear from Edwin from book three briefly.
In Witch Boyfriend Wanted we are introduced to Luca Belmonte and Theo Landon. They are both witches and both men have been set up on dates and nagged about finding a partner to the nth degree. They also have an extremely brief history from college.
Luca and Theo have a wonderful chemistry. They start up as fake boyfriends, because it is a win-win situation, but the chemistry naturally takes over. However, they are also contrasting characters. Luca is a lawyer and has a sort of stoicism you'd expect from a corporate type of character. Theo prides himself on his work - running an apothecary he inherited from his uncle. His magic makes him adept to this kind of work. Theo is passionate but has a similar stoicism about him as well.
This is, at heart, a super sweet but a touch steamy second chance romance.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Luca is tired of his father trying to set him up with somebody just to help his career.
Theo is tired of his meddling family, who wants to see him happy but can't help to overstep.
Along comes Marcy, Luca's and Theo's friend, who knows they'll be just what the other one needs.
After the first blind date almost ends in a disaster, Luca and Theo discover, that they actually like each other and will be able to help each other out by pretending to have been a couple for months.
Meanwhile, an odd stranger leaves a crystal in Theo's apothecary to examine. And soon after, Theo starts having strange feelings and nightmares.
Will Theo and Luca be able to sort out their fake relationship chaos AND solve the magical mystery?
Theo and Luca are just the sweetest. Both have insecurities, Theo due to his former boyfriend, Luca, because his family only sees him as valuable if he's successfully climbing the career ladder. Their acceptance and complete vulnerability with each other is just so sweet and heartwarming. The mysteries are woven into their story, reconnecting us with Aria and her friends, who help with the investigation.
If you like paranormal romance with lots of fluffy feelings AND a riddle to solve, this book (and the whole series) is for you.
I'm sure many people will love this book and it might be the case of 'it's not the book, it's me' but since I promised an honest review, here we go.
It's not that the book isn't written well - the writing and the flow are good, and it probably checks many points that are on trend.
However, I couldn't feel any emotion while reading it or connect with the characters. To be honest, Luca and Theo were the reason for a lot of eye-rolling because both of them seemed to me somewhat spineless (sorry) especially when dealing with their family members. With their issues, I was not surprised that a big part of the conversations in the book felt more like therapy sessions. Also, to me at least, they didn't come across like they wanted each other very much (sorry again) but reading about them together made me think that 'going overboard with consent' is a thing.
The mystery plot was promising but got resolved too quickly (and mundanely, I'd say) at the end.
I liked the twist in the blind date setup, though, that was cool!
All that said, I finished the book, which means I liked it enough. Ms.Rivera seems to be a good writer and maybe another of her books has the passion I'm looking for in my reads, but it's lacking in this one.
Paranormal MM romance with mystery and intrigue This story was engaging from the moment it started. Luca cannot explain to his father that he is tired of being set up for dates with men he has no interest in and when he tells his best friend Marci, she has the solution: Theo. Thing is, Theo recognizes Luca as he comes to sit at his table as the jerk who made fun of him in college. How could Marci make such a bad mistake?! Fortunately, Luca is quick to scope out a situation and go with it so when Jason who was Theo’s Ex comes to their table, Luca puts on a show of being the fake boyfriend. Jason goes away unpleased making Theo very happy. Jason had been an abusive boyfriend. He deserved it. From that point on Luca and Theo make a pact. What happens when the fake starts feeling real? This book is full of secondary characters who are either great, questionable, or downright bad. The author has several conflicts going on beyond the mystery of the crystal: situation with Jason; situation with Luca’s father; the fake boyfriend thing; and Theo’s siblings’ treatment of Theo. Will all get resolved? (Hint: Yes.) If you like mystery and intrigue in your MM romance, you will want to read this book. I volunteered to review an ARC of it through Gay Romance Reviews.
Luca and Theo both think that they're in need of a fake boyfriend, when what they truly want is a loving relationship. Luca wants his social climbing father off his back. Theo has been lying to his family for six months that he's in a relationship. They're perfect for each other. I'm always up for a good fake boyfriends story. And Witch Boyfriend Wanted definitely fits the trope. But Rivera offers more. Found family. A mystery involving Graywoods Apothecary's famous teapot. There's quite a bit of angst, in that neither man feels worthy of having a relationship. But once they cut through the miscommunications, more than halfway through the book, the story is quite sweet. There's good chemistry between the main characters from the start of the book. Being with each other strengthens them and they learn to confront their problems with each others love and support. This was a good, sweet story. Didn't see the plot twist, or figure out the villain. Which was okay since getting there was lots of fun. Enjoyable, quick read with a few very sexy scenes. I received an advance copy and this is my honest review.
