Claude and Sir Bobblysock decide to go to the beach, rescue a man from a shark and find treasure with pirates.

Kids unfamiliar with British slang should pick up some fun terms from this series. They'll also pick up some French in this one. The shark encounter and treasure hunting are both quite humorous. This artist draws people like no one else I've ever seen...they all have very interesting hairdos.

Claude is a dog who acts like a human. In this book, he heads to the beach on holiday when his owners head off to work.

Slightly silly with spot-colored digital artwork, this title is a good read aloud or a beginning chapter book for grades 1-3.

Quirky and enjoyable this introductory novel for developing readers (7+) is sure to interest children who like dogs and enjoy adventure stories. The illustration style and simple colour scheme is appeal for a brand age range of children and the humorous story is sure to grab their interest and leave them keen to read more about Claude's antics in the other books in the series! A great addition to a primary classroom library especially from 1st - 4th class!

I went to the sea and bought a children's book about a dog on holiday at the sea and his adventures with sharks, ice-cream, and pirates.

These books are about the adventures that Claude, a small dog, and his sidekick Sir Bobblysock get into when his owners, referred to as Mr. and Mrs. Shinyshoes go to work everyday. In this book, the Claude and Sir Bobblysock decide to go on vacation to the beach. It follows their hilarious adventures as they pack their luggage, apply sunscreen, save a man from a shark, buy ice cream, build sand castles, and find buried treasure with pirates. At the end of the day, exhausted from their vacation the two return how with sandy underwear and pirate treasure, but keep it a secret from Mr. and Mrs. Shinyshoes.
The humor in it is excellent – on my first read I laughed out loud several times. For example, Claude always seems to have anything he needs on hand – including sticky tape, a lampshade, and a juicy bone baguette for the shark. On first reading, I wondered how much of the humor would be over this age group’s head so I had my seven year old read it to me. He got most of it, and thought the book was so funny. Actually, as he was reading it my fourth grader kept popping over because he wanted to see the pictures that went with the text. I also noticed as my seven year old was reading it that it was a nice combination of familiar, known text with some challenging words sprinkled in that he had to work out.
I enjoyed the unique, vintage-like feel of the illustrations that are done in black, white and shades of red with lots of detail.
Just a note for a more conservative parent reader – they may not appreciate the illustration where the lifeguard was too busy to rescue the man from the shark because quote “he was helping somebody with her beach balls.” I do not think this would be lost on kiddos of this age group, and some parents might not want this in their children’s book.
Its broken up into seven chapters, over 94 pages but the book is in a small format, which I actually love for a child’s hands. The progression of the story was a perfect length for early readers and a good introduction to chapter books. On my first read, I had no idea what was going to happen on their adventure and was pretty interested in what the duo was going to be up to next. I think this level of suspense, in combination with the humor, makes the book a series a good choice for early readers. Even if they struggle with the language a bit, they’d be inclined to want to keep reading for illustrations, story and laughs. I’d recommend this series pretty highly.

Very entertaining how each book begins with the dog's owners going out- we never see their faces, and they never see all the adventures Claude and Sir Bobblysock have. Pay attention to the pictures in these; they are just as funny as the story line. There's also an opportunity to learn a little French in the middle and in the glossary.

No jaa.

My daughter told me to rate this a 5 star because it was funny. Then she told me I had to check out the rest of the books about Claude at the Library for her to read because she enjoyed this book so much. The illustrations were very cute and the story was rather silly but fun at the same time.

These are lovely stories which are a nice introduction to chapter books for the younger children. They are about a small, plump dog called Claude who goes on adventures with his best friend Sir Bobblysock, who is a sock who smells like cheese. In this adventure, Claude packs his suitcase with items he thinks he might need to have on holiday, including; squirty cream, underwear and sun cream. The children loved the pirates, the skull island and the things Claude packed for holiday. The pictures included lots of details, many of which are very funny. I personally wasn't very impressed with the image of the lifeguard being distracted by pumping up a woman's balls, who was holding them in front of her like giant boob. Yes, my class of six year olds did notice and shouted it out.

7/1/22: I'm not sure what to think of the Claude series. Some of it is funny (just the idea of the bobbly sock as a best friend could make littles giggle), but then other things seem a little like inuendo for the adults maybe reading it to littles? Like the page where the lifeguard is "helping" someone with her "balls" and where they were placed on this woman. That is a theme through at least two of these stories. I really don't know whether I would recommend them or not and yet I feel a little like a complishonist because I feel the need to finish the series, at least what I can get from my library.

Alex T. Smith (2011) CLAUDE ON HOLIDAY
London. Hodder Children's Books

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 out of 5 stars

The sleeve reads, "Sir Bobblysock and Claude go on holiday for the very first time. They build sandcastles, eat ice cream and sunbathe. It is all very normal until ... Claude meets a band of pirates and discovers buried treasure."

My goddaughter's current book in school. Quite intense. The illustrations are really really good!

Another rolickingly fun read with Claude and Sir Bobblysocks. Claudes bathing briefs are his owners underwear pinned in. He saves a boy in the water from a shark using his amazing beret. He sets in with a bunch of pirates to find treasure and tricks "real" pirates by accidentally sharing his suitcase which has all sorts of odd things. The illustrations are amazing on every page. Kids would love these.

Reading practice for the boys that I picked out at our library. 😁 Very cute, funny, retro inspired illustrations for the story of Claude, the dog that goes on adventures when his people go to work. This part reminds me a bit of Nature Cat. His sidekick Sir Bobblysock is often the perfect British sidekick. There are smatterings of French thrown in so that is fun because we are attempting to learn French too. Looking forward to reading the others in the series with the boys.

A funny book about a dog who goes out whilst his owners are at work. He goes on an adventure to the beach, meets pirates and still manages to be home when his owners get back from work.

This book is a lovely book to introduce children to chapter books, I think it would be suitable for strong readers in Year 2 as well Year 3 and 4.

In this instalment, Claude waits until his owners, Mr & Mrs Shinyshoes, have headed off to work before grabbing his best friend, Sir Bobblysock, and heading to the beach. The pair build sandcastles, try sunbathing and eat ice creams before meeting some pirates. An illustrated summer story to keep kids occupied on the journey to the beach.

The length of this book and vocabulary (some stretch words but well-paced) was perfect for my 2nd grader.

This installment in the series has all of the merits of reading a chapter book, balanced by adorable illustrations with whimsical details.

We ❤️Sir Bobblysock.

This was a clever and entertaining read.

This is only the second "Claude" book that I have read, but it was so much better than the first one. It had really funny moments at the beach AND pirates. What more could you ask for from a book like this?

Generally, I liked these books… but for some reason the author put in some off color humor that I do not feel is appropriate for the age group that would read this. Unfortunately, sexual humor is in every book in this series.
