About the author

Tomie dePaola (pronounced Tommy da-POW-la) was best known for his books for children.

He had a five-decade writing and illustrating career during which he published more than 270 books, including 26 Fairmount Avenue, Strega Nona, and Meet the Barkers.

Tomie dePaola and his work have been recognized with the Caldecott Honor Award, the Newbery Honor Award, the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award, and the New Hampshire Governor's Arts Award of Living Treasure.

We have Daisy Wallace's other fantastic collection, Witch Poems. Get that one, instead!

One of my favorite books as a wee Ref: I used to get this out of our town's public library every October during my grade school years. Haunting poems and deliciously eerie artwork: this will delight kids and kids-at-heart during that time of the year when the veil grows thin.

A multi-author collection of children's poetry about ghosts. The Ghostly Grocer of Grumble Grove by Jack Prelutsky is outstanding. The other poems in the collection are not especially remarkable. Illustrations are black-and-white pencil drawings.

“Ghost Poems” edited by Daisy Wallace did not live up to my expectations. I was hoping these poems would be spooky but they left me hanging and uninterested. All the pictures were in black and white and not fun to look at. If I could not stay focused on these poems how is a five year old supposed to stay interested? The only useful thing I could see about this collection would be to use it around Halloween time in a classroom and have kids write their own ghost poems.

Absolutely loved this book!

When you think of ghosts and ghouls you don't necessarily think of cute little creatures. This book changes everything you thought. With different poems from different writers, Daisy Wallace and Tomie de Paola put together a fantastic book that makes spooky creatures look fun for children. I believe that this book is for children from ages 6-12. That's just an estimate by the way. This book lets their imagination fly and have fun without being scared.
