Book 3 in the Origins series

“When darkness comes keep an eye on the light, no matter how far away it seems.” These wise words are put to the ultimate test as time moves forward into the Middle Ages for the Lazarus crew.

Hastelloy recalls for his therapist mankind’s fall from the Golden Age of Rome into a darkness that humanity was powerless to escape for a thousand years. Evils both alien and human, near and far conspire against his best intentions. Meanwhile, Dr. Holmes is forced to question if humanity would still be mired in the dark without Hastelloy’s help, or was the cure worse than the disease?

Light and dark suddenly blend into shades of gray when NSA agent Mark Holmes finally comes face to face with Hastelloy in the present. Right and wrong are indistinguishable as these two men strive to progress their vision of the greater good, leaving Dr. Holmes to judge the merits of each man’s case.

It is a judgment that may never happen as an ancient threat is unearthed by a team of archeologists working at the tomb of China’s first emperor. This time even Hastelloy and his crew may not be able to save humanity; not by themselves at least.

Mark Henrikson

Mark Henrikson grew up in the suburbs of St. Louis Missouri and attended the University of Missouri, Columbia where he earned a bachelors degree in Finance and Economics in 1998. He later earned his Masters of Business Administration from Lindenwood University.

Mark's love of story telling began at a young age while listening to imaginative, and often times scary, bedtime stories by his father. His respect for the written word was reinforced by the attentive eye of his mother who taught English for many years at St. Charles High School.

Mark has been happily married since 2000 and is the proud father of two children. He works as a financial analyst and uses his fiction writing as a creative outlet from the rather sterile profession he none the less enjoys.

His Origins novel series began as a two page plot write-up his older brother decided was not going anywhere. With his permission, Mark used that synopsis as back story for the main character in the Origins series and allowed his creativity to take over from there.

This series is more and more like the Twilight books with every book -- Poor quality writing to describe utterly unrealistic and ridiculously one dimensional characters. Yet I keep reading because there is just enough of a plot to make me want to know how it all comes together in the end.
Also, I don't think I can stomach another reference to soiling one's pants to describe level of surprise said character has experienced. Could the author possibly find a less juvenile way to describe fear/shock/surprise?
So will I read the next book in the series? Probably, to see how it ends. Will I read anything else by this author? Not likely at all, for the reasons mentioned already.

The voyage continues!

Hastelloy and company walk us thru important moments in history. He reveals a very believable portrayal of human turning points in moral and amoral behavior. I look forward to the next book.

This is the 3rd book in the series that I've seen. It is also possible that I need to finish the series before I can do further ratings.

Mark Henrikson continues his epic on the battle between the Novi and the Alpha in this third book of the series. In this installment, he tackles the growth of Cathlocism, the Black Plague and the Dark Ages. He moves onto the life and works of Martin Luthor and the start of the Renaissance.

These keep getting better. I note the his writing style is evolving in a great direction. In his earlier books I found the story enjoyable. But, I also found his movement between storyline as well as moving back and forth in time, made reading it choppy. In this third book of the Origins series, Henrikson seems to have smoothed it out so not only was the story fun, but it flowed well.

As with his other books, the conversations can be cerebral. He does a nice job of making the reader feel that the Novi and the Alpha are far superior to Humans in their evolvement and intelligence. His portrayal of battle scenes are very well done. I wonder if he has military training or advisors who helped with the various military strategies employed. In this book, there is a particularly compelling naval battle. Very well done.

I'm taking a short break to read some non-fiction. But, I expect to pick up the fourth book within the month.

I really liked this book in the series even thought I'm less familiar with the time period. This one had quite a few nice little shockers in it! I do have to say I detest the uncompromising NSA characters and their shoot first ask questions later attitude. Hopefully they will get some redeeming qualities in the next book. I can't wait for the next book!!!!

What more is left to say of this third installment of the Origins series?? Mark Henrikson is just an excellent writer! This story, as of the entire series, is intertwined with into recap of history. In my opinion, these are the best kind of stories. You get to live history in and engaging, entertaining way. Mark Henrikson certainly delivers!

This is similar in quality to the previous two books in the series. The story in interesting but it feels like the author studies a history enough to find some interesting joining points and then makes the story work around those. The author could spend more time on the history connections to carry the story better. But still a good read.

Still a very good series

I have really enjoyed this series. Takes history and looks at it through a different lens. Very impressed he manages to stay true to the mythology of his world.

Good continuation

Though I'm not one into space and aliens, etc., this book held my interest more than the last one in this series. Hopefully, the last two will hold my interest as well.

Another nice installment

This one was pretty good. A bit slow in places, but overall flows nicely. What's funny is how believable this crazy story is. Going for the sequel right now.

Great fun

The Origins series is a hoot. The aliens are more human than the human characters. I look forward to the next novel in the series.
