Having two admirers can be a real headache, especially when a tough agronomy course at Imperial College comes on top of that, not forgetting a part-time job at a florist’s and a mother desperate to marry you off.
Have I mentioned a stalker who keeps sending roses, and a Professor who thinks it’s fine to bury you under an extra pile of academic papers? Arrrgh!
Blake may be cute and charming, but Terrence is no less attractive in his business suits. What is a poor girl to do? Dating both of them is the right thing if you listen to Trish and that’s exactly the way Kurt handles his men.
Party after party, you have to deal with these bouts of guilt mixed with hangovers while mulling over the same dilemma over and over again - Blake or Terrence? Terrence or Blake? Think, Chloe, think!
Mr Right & Mr Wrong is a wonderfully warm and witty yet thoughtful romantic comedy, from which you will not only pick up tips on the intricacies of London dating, but also discover a few moral and ethical aspects of plant neurobiology. Not so much chick lit as chic lit, offering sophistication alongside Chloe’s amusing complications.
Grigory (a.k.a Grisha) Ryzhakov grew up in the Russian Far East, bathing in the icy waters of Seas of Okhotsk and Japan and playing hide-and-seek in the snowdrifts that carpeted his native town of Korsakov.
He later travelled thousands of miles to vibrant London, on the way collecting his MSc degree in biochemistry at Moscow State and PhD in molecular biology at Cambridge University. Meanwhile, Grigory has been ceaselessly creating poems, songs and prose until eventually he wrote his debut novel "Mr Right & Mr Wrong".
"Usher Syndrome" was his first published story, also adapted for the stage and performed at London's Barons Court Theatre in 2010. To connect with Grigory, please visit his blog: http://www.ryzhakov.co.uk
I'm a little puzzled by the higher ratings. I'm all for reading some silly fluff book, but this was just a silly crap book. One star does not even justify my rating
Well the whole subject of this novel is the up and down life of Chloe, who has a delightful sense of humor and a really bad talent for picking men it seems.
The two suitors Terrence and Blake are both not really great materiel from the start but each seems to have a bit of "something" that she likes but in the end (to steal a line form The Highlander) "there can be only one" . Picking that "one" is going to take most of the novel, not to mention she is working on a degree and you will get a lot of intellectual trivia along with the entertainment of this novel.
The writing was good but for an American audience it may be a bit too full of British slang which may or may not be detracting but almost all of the humor comes through and I did laugh a lot.
While the ending was somewhat satisfying I felt it was a bit sudden since I was getting into the situation and suddenly the page said "The End" but it was not really bad, just felt like I could have used a few more pages to nail down what happened.
All things considered this is a solid 4 Stars reading experience and perhaps if you are in the UK, maybe a bit more.
I'm always looking for new Chick Lit to read, I think I read 2-3 books a week on average, so I pounced on Mr Right & Mr Wrong as soon as I saw it listed as a new release. This is novel in true British Chick Lit style, with drama, confusion, and humour.
The story is about Chloe, a university student who works part-time in a florist's shop, and never seems to have much luck in love until she suddenly meets not one, but two eligible batchelors, with a third sending her roses. She also has two flatmates who live vicariously through her sexual conquests of lack thereof.
The story gets confusing when Chloe falls in love with both of her suitors, a DJ who travels to Paris to record his album, and a London banker who lives with his sister. She does however have to make a choice, but will it be Mr Right, or Mr Wrong?
This was a book received from Goodreads Giveaways. Instantly intrigued me being written by a scientist. I was hooked from the beginning! Chloe's dilemmas had me tuning the pages to see how her life was going. I cried and laughed with her! Two admirers, agronomy (learnt something new there!) just Chloe's story in general left me thinking 'I can't wait for your next book Mr Ryzhakov'.
Chloe never expected to meet 2 great guys on the same day. She meets Terrance at a busy lunchspot when she invites the lone diner to share the only empty table with her. Not only did she have a nice lunch, she's got herself a date.
Later that day on her way home from work she stops at the market for a few items and continues on her way. Sadly, her grocery bag breaks and her food falls onto the pavement. As she scurries after a runaway orange which has rolled into the path of a quickly oncoming car, something grabs her from behind and pulls her back to safety. That something is a gorgeous man named Blake.
Over the next few weeks and months, Chloe can't decide if she likes Terrance or Blake more so she dates both of them, unbeknownst to the other. But could it be that both of them are hiding something from her as well? Chloe makes up her mind and things are going well until, well, until they're not going well. Is it too late for her to change her mind because perhaps the other man is her Mr Right?
I was given a copy of Mr Right and Mr Wrong in exchange for an honest review. I liked the book. It was a light fluffy read although quite a bit of the book talked about Chloe's studies in agronomy which I'll admit to skimming over a bit of it but it was a huge part of who Chloe is so I understand the author's need to have all of that in the book. And I did enjoy's Chloe's flitting back and forth while she tried to decide which one was Mr Right and which one was Mr Wrong, and it certainly didn't hurt that she ultimately chose the one that I would have!!
This was such good fun! I absolutely adored the chapters being named after plants and fruits including their botanical (latin) names. It was so clever how these plants or fruits were then weaved into the relevant chapter. It shows how well thought out this book was.
I laughed out loud on so many occasions and felt the need to read excerpts out to whichever lucky person was sitting in the room with me! Chloe is an instantly likeable character, living the single life and not necessarily looking for love when, like the number 9 bus, two men come along at once. She can't decide between the two so she dates both of them, and whilst I don't condone this I can understand the confusion on the dating scene. She's ultimately looking to settle down with someone, she is 22...er...25...er actually 28 after all. So professional, respectable Terrence seems like a good choice over fun, flirty Blake. Will Terrence turn out to be Mr. Right or Mr. Wrong? That's what I was asking myself throughout the book, so I had to keep reading into the early hours to find out!
I really enjoyed the way that Grigory Ryzhakov has written this book. His humour shines out of every page and I found myself laughing, smiling and cursing dastardly men throughout the book. I notice on Amazon that this is Girl Scientist Book 1 - so I'll be looking out for book 2. Hopefully we will hear more of Chloe's escapades and find out if she ended up with Mr. Right after all.
I received this book from the author via a Goodreads Giveaway.
There are various reasons why I enjoyed this cute novels: it reminded me a lot of The Bridget Jones diaries, and I admit, I was a fan of that series; it was quite romantic, up until the unexpected happily ever after; and there was Kurt, the gay best friend of Chloe, always giving the right advice to his girl friend, arriving even to test the potential boyfriends to be sure they are not gays. Of course it wasn’t strange that between Trish, her other best girl friend, and Kurt, Chloe wasn’t hiding a preference for Kurt. Now, the story wasn’t about Kurt, even if he has an important role in the plot, and I’m all to suggest the author to write also Kurt’s story.
Chloe is managing her life as post-graduate student and two men, Terrence and Blake, both of them met the same day, after a long period of abstinence; of course, no one with their sane head will suggest her to ditch one man in favor of the other, not before testing them as possible Mr Right; Terrence is kind, well-behaved and with a steady job in financial services; Blake is cute, energetic and works part-time as DJ… the choice is obvious, isn’t it? You do remember Bridget Jones’s lesson, don’t you? Colin Firt is always the right choice… or not?
The tone of the novel was light, the mood funny but not extremely sexy: this isn’t at all an erotic romance, it was more a romantic comedy. Good choice to spend a few hours without tragedy and with a smile on your face.
I don't know when I've read such a delightfully funny romantic novel as Grigory Ryzhakov's "Mr. Right and Mr. Wrong", or met a character that is quite as appealing as Chloe, the 28 year old graduate student in soil science who is caught between two men. Which one is "Mr. Right" and which is "Mr. Wrong"? Finding the answer is hilariously related by Chloe herself as she struggles with her mother's attempts to marry her off, a painfully failed relationship, two delightful roommates and two men. From beginning to the end, I found myself laughing. Years ago, British novelist P.G. Wodehouse (Psmith, The Woosters and other characters) was my favorite comic novelist; with "Mr. Right and Mr. Wrong", a very talented successor of Mr. Wodehouse has appeared. I couldn't be more delighted.
I've read each of Grigory Ryzhakov's novels; it's a pleasure to read the work of someone who gets better with each book. I await his next effort with keen anticipation.
Won this book from Goodreads and I'm really glad I did. Probably wouldn't have picked it up in a bookshop because the cover is not my usual type. However, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this light, fluffy book. It was an ideal read for my holiday. Once I started reading it, I was reluctant to put it down because I wanted to find out just who she would eventually marry. The whole book was written very well considering it was penned by a man and showed the feelings of a woman/girl. Loved the flow of the writing. I can appreciated the girls feelings about her different lovers - I was a girl many moons ago. I feel it was well written, enjoyable and would love to read more of this authors books. Thank you.
Usually I am a little hesitant when it comes to picking up Chick Lit but after seeing the great reviews and that it was a male author, I decided to give it a shot. Not only was it extremely funny but it was also a decent story. The plot kept me interested and the characters were extremely likable. I also think the author also did a great job of capturing the feel of London. It does boil down to being a love story but never did I feel that it was overbearing. This chick lit is definitely male friendly and I have suggested it so some of my female friends as well. A good read.
This romantic comedy will stir up a few giggles and smirks from readers everywhere. Ryzhakov brings the colorful characters to life with each flick of the page and many will be satisfied with the adorable storyline. Fans of romance will find themselves relating to the contemporary topics displayed throughout by our heroine, Chloe and will root for her to finally get her happy ending. It's a great read for a book club or to share with friends, too!
This book is so skilfully written that you no longer see words and sentences after only a few lines. You just glide through. The thrill of reading it is right at the top of the scale. This is an easy and agreeable read, yet it is intellectually refined and mentally stimulating. It offers science without challenge. It gets to the bottom of the concept of love without melodrama. This is not a pastime. This is a special treat. If you like to indulge yourself, this is a book for you.
I won this book months ago from Goodreads. Since I use my kindle to read almost everything, I forgot all about it. I have to really be in the mood for Chick Lit anyway. This was a fun read, with characters I enjoyed. I love that Chloe was such a flawed chick, who was angry with her suitors for the very same thing she was guilty of. The ending was wrapped up nice and neatly.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book took me a long time to get into. I had trouble relating to the characters in the beginning. But once we clicked I loved it! It is a very British book, but once you get used to the slang, you lose yourself in Chloe's ups and downs. Loved it and cannot wait to read the next one.
An easy read book that I enjoyed a good summer read a well written book which is exactly as the title says she has to choose between Mr right and Mr wrong I enjoyed it.
