Hi I'm Rossi, I can often be found upside down on my yellow yoga mat, journal writing and getting creatively messy. I am a quote addict, a gadget geek and an aspiring minimalist. I also consider myself to be a cake magnet, as I can't walk past a cake without being attracted to it. You too?

Once a reluctant journal writer myself (I was scared of the blank page) I discovered the benefits of keeping a journal while studying Psychology and Visual Communications. My intention for 365 Journal Writing Ideas is to help you defeat the blank page, start a regular journal writing practice, unlock your journals full potential and enjoy some you-time.

I was lucky enough to win a copy of this book through a goodreads giveaway but that did not influence my decision to give this book 5*s. It is absolutely full of ideas, tips, tricks and prompts to get you writing. It covers such a diverse selection of ideas and topics that you could not possibly be unable to find something to get you started.

I am one of those irritating people that buys a new journal every year because it has a pretty cover. In fact, it entails an annual shopping trip during the week between christmas and New Year because surely everybody knows you should start a journal on January 1st, right? (or maybe that's just an odd quirk of mine). And, you can't buy just any! No, it has to look, feel and of course 'smell' right. I even go all out and buy a new pen specifically to use. But come New Years Day... nothing! NADA! Zilch! Brain Fart... I sit staring at that first page with good intentions but get absolutely nothing wrote down and my poor journal is placed on the top shelf of my bookcase along with the others from years gone by, left all alone, abandoned and forgotten about.

Well, 2014 is going to be different :o) It is going to be the year where I finally buy a new journal and pop its cherry! and this book is going to be the reason. like I mentioned earlier it is full of useful information and some of the prompts to get you started really are thought-provoking.

By this time next year I am hoping my copy of this book will be a little dog-eared because I intend to use it often. And if all that wasn't worth the 5*s then the selection of quotes most definitely hit my Achilles heel.

If you enjoy writing in any form but sometimes struggle with writer's block - do yourself a favour and buy a copy!

I really think this book is an amazing idea for an app!!!
Compré el ebook porque me encantan los libros con trivias, frases y actividades, y si, también porque tengo un diario íntimo y nada de imaginación.
Ya estoy en el sorteo. En verdad lo quiero en físico.

I checked the mail everyday, even though Goodreads says 4-6 weeks. It only took a week!
I was excited. I do not want to damage the book at all. haha. But I'll take it out when I have the right journal to use. I should have went and bought one while I waited. But it's a good thing that I didn't. In the book, it lists the things you'll need when you start.
Now I'm searching for the perfect journal that has a lot of pages and is small enough to fit in my bag. My bag can fit a normal sized book, like 365 Journal Writing Ideas, and my wallet and a whole bunch of other things ladies stuff in their bags.
But when I did finally received the book, I scanned through it. It contained some pretty cool prompts, activities and inspiring quotes.
I am very fortunate to have won this book because it will keep me intact with writing. See, I've decided to take a year off from school. Yeah, I know, it sucks seeing friends start their first day of college. Here I am, at home doing chores, reading and being lazy. Not only will I treat it like a journal, but think of it as essay prompts. Though I do not want to stress myself out trying to perfect a prompt. It'll keep me busy.
I'm very excited to start a journal!!! (Again)
p.s. I have started a journal two, maybe three years ago and I only used about ten pages out of two hundred pages. Way to go, Tiffany. *Note the sarcasm.

I received this book from a Goodreads Giveaway. It arrived with a hand-written postcard from the author, and a cute set of magnetic page markers.

I really enjoyed this book, and plan to once again attempt journaling. I have tried a few times over the years, and never got beyond a few entries. This book has lots of helpful tips for getting started and sticking with it. There are suggestions for adding items to your journal, and suggestions for when you feel intimated by the thought of starting a new journal.

I really liked the photography challenges and weekly actions. The writing prompts were unique and I think they would be great for inspiring creative journal entries. Quotes are mixed in throughout the book, and also compiled by topic at the end of the book. This book would be a nice gift for someone as well.

It is true. My review of Rossi Fox’s 365 Journal Writing Ideas is not without its problems. The truth is that I am working on a similar project for Owl and Zebra Press, titled The Beginner’s Journal. I’m sure that project and this particular journal will have plenty of overlap, but only because we have a similar aim and many things about both products are intuitive.

I bought 365 Journal Writing Ideas because The Beginner’s Journal was not finished but I needed something for home school. My son is as reluctant a writer as he is a reader, so I try to keep some of his writing time light by requiring a daily journal entry. Since we are full-on home school this year, I thought it would be nice to have a journal prompt handy for each day, and then just open up his blank book and instruct him (again!) that I want to see three full sentences before he doodles.

Looking online (which is where I did most of my curriculum research) I came across this lesser-known, self-published journal prompt book. It looked like just what I needed.

And it exceeded my expectations.

Let’s set one thing straight. This is not a place to actually journal. It is a journal companion. So you still need something–like anything from a spiral-bound notebook to a leather-bound, hand-pressed paper sketch pad–to actually journal. This book, however, will get you where you need to be when staring at the blank page that you just paid good money for.

It’s also not meant for writers, as many prompt books are. Only rarely will it say something like, “Finish this idea with a short story.” It’s mostly more what journals are supposed to be like: introspective. About you. A little random. A little creative.

And it is not going to record your life, like an old planner. You won’t look back on day 200 some year in the future and go, “Oh! It was sunny that day. And John and I left for Slovenia! And look, they had the audacity to serve fish on the flight!” Unless you make it a point to record those sorts of things each day yourself, you are mostly going to have entries with more general introspection. My dream was to be a trapeze artist?!?

But let’s move on from what it isn’t, because this journal prompt book packs a lot in and has a lot to offer.

First of all, it is flexible, which means you can use it several different ways, which also means you could use it for two or three times 365 days. (365 will almost definitely play out to more than one year for you. Not many people are disciplined enough to journal every single day, come rain or shine, ER visits, flus, or snow days, let alone general laziness.) The book is broken into sections, which are:

Tips and tricks
Encouraging quotes (throughout the book)
365 writing prompts (the meat of the thing)
52 weekly actions
400 thought-provoking quotes
Create-your-own prompts section
A year-long photography challenge

If you are feeling especially intense this year, you could do a prompt per day, along with an action per week and a photo challenge per week (printing them out and taping them in as you go). You’ll need to set aside some real time, though, because some of these prompts require more brain-power and/or creativity than others, and the same could be said for the actions. If you have a gaggle of small children or are in a physician residency or have a job on Wall Street, you might want to stick with an audio journal or maybe something like Wreck This Journal (because you just can’t go wrong with the release destroying a journal can provide).

The book is neat and tidy, straight-forward, friendly, professional-looking… there’s nothing bad to say about it.

Obviously, I think this is a great tool for exactly what it advertises. You want to journal this year but you’re not sure where to start each day? Or are you an old hand at journaling but you want an outside prompt this year? Well, until The Beginner’s Journal publishes ( 😊 ), this is a great place to start.

Good concentrated by editing errors

This book is good for getting ideas on how to journal and what to journal about. Unfortunately, this book was poorly proofread. Using 'colour' and 'color' in the same paragraph, and awkward sentence structure betrays one of two things: the author is not a native English speaker and just used an English sounding name, or offering the book for free didn't allow for paying a proper editor. If you can get past that, however, this book is full of good starting points for journal entries.

There is a lot more in this book than just writing prompts and thought-provoking questions! I love journaling, but sometimes I just need a little motivation to get my thoughts flowing and this book is perfect for that. I also really love the creative writing prompts provided in this book. No matter what you want to write about, there is something in this book to help motivate you.

Such a great resource that anyone who wants to write more would benefit from having. Highly recommend it!

This is a wonderful resource. The author begins by explaining everything you need to know about journaling.

There are then 365 journal prompts. Then there are 52 weekly prompts. These are ideas to think about and work into your week. There are photography prompts. There is a large section of quotes organized by topic.

I am using this to help me when I draw a blank during my daily journal writing.

Quite a few prompts in here were very well thought out. I especially like the short story prompts that you randomly choose three elements from the charts.

I will be using several of these prompts on my characters to strengthen their development in my storylines.

This is a perfect book to introduce someone to journaling. I like how unusual the prompts are, and, even if I don’t like some, the author gave some failproof prompts, which is quite handy.

Overall, it’s a practical book, and it has my full recommendation to those who do journaling.

A book very well written

Wow, Amazing! I’m going to use this book for next year. I wish I would have had this at the beginning of this year to start doing my own personal journal. It’s a start of a new beginning to a wonderful year.

There are mixed reviews on this book, and I bought the kindle version of it to help me get past my fear of a blank page and learn to write daily. I haven't used the prompts yet, but I feel they will be useful. The book does what it says it will do, but like others have said, you can find these online for free with a little effort. I just didn't want to put in the effort. I preferred getting the book and having everything available without research. I do however feel that the book is a little clunky, and could have been organized and written better. There is a page per prompt which will make the book longer when printed. I think they could have been listed and condensed onto fewer pages and this would work just as well, if not better. I wouldn't pay very much for this book because it really isn't worth it, in my opinion. There are others out there much better. Nothing new here. It was thrown together to make a quick dollar.

A Strange and Random Assortment

This book is so strange and random. Journal writing prompts that aren't always journaling at all. (A great many are list making or short story writing.) Then it also has a 52 week plan with things like cleaning out your closet, dining alone, or rating your body (that one made me mad). You also have a list of photo prompts for a photo challenge, but some of the 52 actions involve these photo challenges, too. And then a list of random quotes that you can easily find on Good reads. One journal prompt used the zodiac calendar and I'm not into that. #136, #206, and #241 were all missing the chart to select and make a short story. A lot of picture and collage stuff. I just found this very scattered, not insightful, and not helpful.

I've kept a journal on and off for a long time, but wanted to get into a regular habit, so I downloaded this book for my ereader. This book has a lot of interesting and sometimes unusual prompts to get you started, although I thought some of them could have had a little more substance. Also, I work as an ESL teacher in China, and teach a lot of oral English classes. It's often difficult to come up with new and interesting conversation topics as the semester goes on. I found many of the prompts in this book could be easily adapted into free talk questions and speaking activities for language classes.

I have just received my book, and started reading it, and just love the personality of Rossi. It has made me laugh out loud and want to get right to the journalling. I know I am absolutely going to love spending the next year journalling alongside the prompts, ideas and humour of Rossi.

Thank you so much for the wonderful adventure. :)

I am grateful and honored to be a Goodreads winner of the book. I look forward to extending my journaling with this book. Thank you.

I haven't done it yet but I have the e-book and going through I can tell this gonna be an amazing and fun journey for me. The writing prompts , the photo prompts, photo challenge . This will help myself and others think outside the box when it comes to journaling . Everyday will be different and it won't be where one is writing the same boring junk. If you are looking for some "you" time journaling is the way to go with this book as your guide . I recommend this 200% .
