I enjoyed reading this book. It was exciting and smooth. The fairy home, Fey, was being destroyed by an evil fairy who stole the Dagger of Truth. Needing help, they bring 4 teens to Fey and give them each a weapon suited to their abilities. I loved how Katie, her twin Billy and their two friends worked together to complete the quest. The diversity of magical creatures was amazing and the plot well developed and easy to follow. Nice twists to keep you on the edge of your seat.

I was gifted Katie McCory and the Dagger of Truth and was delighted to say this was one novel punched up with what young readers love but offers good clean reading that is the kind of literature educators and parents are calling for. Cathy Collar knows the elements it takes to create a great fantasy tale. Here Katy and her brother Billy are lured into a secret portal to a different realm where they and their friends come to find out they are there for a mission to stop an evil queen and her son from taking over in a mystical land of the Fey. Imagine being awarded magical weapons to help fend off trolls, bad fairies giants, and demons,as they become locked by fate in a war of the fairy tribes.Young readers will be totally engaged in this one where magic lurks around every corner. What girl wouldn’t love to have a magical sword that can protect her in this realm and a magical cloak can transform a boy into any creature? Katie, Billy and her friends find out a shocking secret as to why they were chosen and it will leave you surprised. I recommend this story highly as it is a wonderful read for middle grades to young adult and even adults! Make sure to order this one for that special young person in your life!

This is a lovely story of The Land of Fey or fairies. Children will thoroughly enjoy the magic and mystery and adventures that Katie has along with her brother and their two friends. They learn some magical things and meet some strange and mysterious creatures. They realizes they have powers of their own like the magical creatures they meet on their journey into Fey. Their powers will be put to the test in this creative tale.

This is the first installment of a series which will surely delight and captivate children. What child does not believe in magic and fairies when they are young? It was a fun story for this adult too. C.L. Collar is a talented storyteller who will have many more surprises and enthralling stories to come.

What a delightful book of fairy! This is a lovely book of fancy that would appeal to tweens and the young at heart adult. The story takes you on an adventure from the mortal world to Fey and back. A quest sends the reader on a path of discovery that encounters very interesting characters, loads of fairy lore, and an exciting journey into the realm of pixies, oakmen, fairies, and more, as well as, us mere mortals. Appropriate fun and a sprinkling of wisdom await for readers of all ages!

interesting story

I enjoyed the story and the ending that set the reader up for the next book. I agree, not sure what age group this would be best for. I would say 12 and 13.

Katie McCory and the Dagger of Truth by C.L. Collar is a fantasy tale for middle grade students. Pair of twins, Katie and Billy, and their best friends wants this Halloween to be memorable and decide to have a Halloween sleepover at their Grandmother’s house. They set up Gram’s attic as the place to have their sleepover. Halloween is a magical night and on this night and in this room their mystery begins. The foursome is magically transported to the land of Fey (fairies) and are charged with a quest to retrieve a special talisman—the dagger of truth.

Ms. Collar develops a well-thought out plot line. There are enough twists and turns to keep the reader’s interest. Her use of descriptive language also helps transport the reader into the world of the fairies. The theme is one of good versus evil and our heroes’ quest allows them to learn to set aside personal differences and work collaboratively to fulfill their quest. At the end of this quest, the characters learn that together their bond of friendship help as they gain inner strength. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can see how teachers could incorporate it into reading comprehension standards unit—identifying characteristics of fantasy.

Story:
Katie McCory loves reading about fairies. While she and her brother Billy are visiting their Grandma for Halloween Katie discovers a mysterious chest. Later she, her brother, and their friends are taken to the magical world of Fey, home to all sorts of fairies. The fairy queen tells them that an evil fairy has gotten a hold of a powerful weapon and is turning it evil. Katie, Billy, and their friends must work together to recover the dagger and save the fairies from evil.
I've always loved fantasy and this book is a masterpiece. The story is well written and the plot is paced out nicely. Some might say there are too many fairies in one book, but this is hardly the surface of the world of fairies. There are a few punctuation errors but it's nothing to worry about. If you wanted to find a land as magical as Oz or Narnia, you will find it in Fey. C.L. Collar's knowledge of fairies, combined with her excellent storytelling, engaging characters, Christian parallels, and wonderful imagination, is giving rise to a new generation of fairy tales.
Caution:
Some fairies and demons may be scary for young readers. Characters are in peril from evil fairies and dark magic.
Lessons:
We can overcome problems by putting aside our differences and working together. We can be kept safe from evil by listening to the Spirit and warnings from our parents. No matter who we are or what we've done, we can change and become better. The powers of darkness are no match against the things that are good. Good will always prevail over evil.

I have given this three stars because it is a little twee for my tastes, but I am an adult and this is aimed at children. 3.5 would have been more truthful.
The characters are easy to like, a little stereotypical , but it is a fairy story.
There were times when I wanted more depth to the problems and solutions. Some of the difficulties were too easily overcome.
I do wonder if it would have worked better with younger characters as it is obviously aimed at youngsters.
It is well written, I do not remember noticing any typos or spelling issues.
So if you like fairy tale sand twee stories this is for you.
