Román v Česku i Evropě etablované spisovatelky Tanji Dückers Nejdelší den v roce se odehrává v jediném dni, kdy k pěti dospělým dětem dorazí zpráva o nečekaném úmrtí jejich otce. V pěti částech vyprávěných z pohledu jednotlivých dětí se vynořuje mozaika života jejich otce a rodiny, jak si ji pamatují z dětství, kdy byl život ještě snadný a jasný. Jednotliví aktéři se kromě smrti otce právě vypořádávají i s vlastními strastmi a problémy – nevěrou, osamělostí, vzdorovitými dětmi, profesní seberealizací, finančními těžkostmi. Pro každého z nich však rodina představuje důležité zázemí, všichni si uvědomují význam rodinné soudržnosti.

About the author

Tanja Dückers, born 1968, studied German and Art History. She is the author of poems, essays, novels and stories, was a columnist for the Frankfurter Rundschau and Die ZEIT and for the periodical Bücher. She is one of Germany’s most prominent writers of the younger generation.

Tanja Dückers has received numerous awards and prizes. She lives with her family in Berlin.

„Die Abwesenheit von Leben hatte etwas unendlich Beruhigendes.“

Die verschiedenen Reaktionen der Kinder auf den Tod des Vaters hätten mich wahrscheinlich noch mehr angesprochen, wenn sie mehr miteinander verknüpft worden wären.

Sämtliche Kinder erfahren nacheinander und auf unterschiedliche Art und Weise vom Tod ihres Vaters. Die Nachricht erreicht sie in den verschiedensten Situationen, die charakteristisch für ihren Lebensstil sind.
Mein Fall ist der Roman nicht, mir ist Tanja Drückers Erzählstil zu betulich und die Charaktere wirken auf mich nicht authentisch, zu konstruiert. Ist aber bestimmt Geschmackssache, ich will dem Buch nicht Unrecht tun.

Some of this was good, but some of the characters were beyond identifying with and I never felt like their point of view was made accessible. The whole plot dragged along and it never really went anywhere.
