About the author

E.M. Abel was born and raised a Marine Corps brat. She spent a large portion of her life moving and living in her mother’s home country, Japan. As a result, she gained independence and a unique perspective on the world. The youngest of three girls, E.M. Abel spent a lot of time alone in her room writing or sketching in her journals and dreaming up stories. Growing up, she wrote poems, short stories and articles for her high school newspaper. She also fell in love with art and discovered her deep need for self-expression.

Now, a Navy wife with two small children of her own, she still loves being creative and most of all translating her stories into novels. E.M. Abel, now referred to as E or Em by her friends and readers, can often be found with her headphones on jamming out to punk rock, in a chair getting tattooed or cooking dinner for her kids and attending gymnastics practice. After reading Freeing Asia and meeting Asia’s brother Shaun, I was excited to hear he was getting his own book. His story didn’t disappoint. I liked Freeing Asia a lot, but I liked Breaking Shaun so much more!

I was captivated from Shaun and Natalie's very first meeting. Shaun being the cocky playboy that he is propositions Natalie. And Natalie being the tough chick she is turns him down. Flat.

“I’m not interested.”
“Too bad. I was really looking forward to lifting that red dress up around your hips and testing how wet I could get you before you begged me to fuck you”


Natalie may seem like the wild girl. She works at a bar, she sleeps with whoever she wants whenever she wants. She doesn’t do relationships and she doesn't believe in love.

I liked control because, honestly, I didn’t trust anyone enough to let them have it.


Natalie really isn’t as wild as she seems. She’s actually a responsible and loving sister. Spending the bulk of her teenage/adult years taking care of her little sister, she figures now is as good of a time as any for a fresh start. So she moves cross country, temporarily staying with her cousin Nick. Nick is good friends with Asia Fuller, who happens to be Shaun’s sister.

Shaun Fuller. Shaun also sleeps with whoever he wants whenever he wants. He doesn’t so girlfriends, he doesn’t pretend to be anything other than what he is. He’s straight with anyone he’s with. He doesn’t make promises he can’t keep.



Shaun doesn’t know what it is about Natalie that draws him to her. Sure, she’s beautiful, but there is more than that. She turns him down over and over again and it just makes him want her that much more. Natalie is finally settling in. She’s got a job, she’s making friends, she doesn’t want to ruin it by sleeping with her new friends brother, no matter how attracted she is to him. So they decide to be just friends.

Keeping that man in the friend zone was going to be a challenge for sure. I just hoped I was up for it.


And let me tell you... Shaun doesn’t make it easy. But neither does Natalie. He soon realizes, he really has met his match with her.

I had a feeling I had finally met my match.

We all know how well ‘just friends’ usually goes. Just friends turns into just friends with benefits. And that can be... tricky.

Lets talk about the characters. I loved them both. Natalie was confident in who she was, independent and fun. After learning about her past, it was easy to understand why she was the way she was when it came to relationships.

“Loving someone isn’t enough to keep them from leaving, and I’ve been left behind enough to know it’s not worth the risk.”


And then there was Shaun. I love a good playboy/man-whore and he was perfect! This cocky, confident and hilarious man eventually opened up and showed his more vulnerable side.



Can I just say that the chemistry between these two was off the freaking chart!?!? Seriously. The steam in this story didn’t disappoint. One of the hottest books I’ve read in a while... Shaun will have you fanning yourself. His mix of playfulness/alpha male was perfect. This book belongs on the top of my panty-dropping-hot shelf. A relationship (sexual or not) with two alphas seems like it would be destined to fail, but this couple really worked together.

Now the ending. There are going to be some readers out there who won’t love it. It won’t work for everyone. There was a bit of a twist that I wasn’t sure about at first. But the more I read, the more I loved it. Personally, I thought the ending was beautiful. I felt like it showed growth on both of the main characters parts, and unconditional love and acceptance. It left my heart warm and I had a huge smile on my face.

I really enjoyed the writing, the characters and the storyline of Breaking Shaun. There wasn’t much about this book I didn’t love. I love a friends to lovers story, I love a good man-whore with a strong independent woman, and I absolutely adore stories where the characters have substantial growth. This book hit all those love buttons. It was great to catch up with Asia, Marcus, Nick and JAY. I’m so excited for his story!

5 Absolute Perfection Stars

I absolute love this series, and seriously can’t wait for Jay’s book, but for now let’s focus on Shaun.

Shaun is Asia’s brother and is a huge man-whore.


That bothers some readers, but not this one. I love a good man-whore, who changes his life and perspective for the right girl. I love this plot line, when it is done correctly...and it was in this case. Shaun was used to screwing just about any available girl and he liked easy, until he met the one girl his charms didn't work on: Natalie.

Now Natalie is breaking that glass ceiling one sexual act at time, and hell I am loving that too. Yes, she too is a whore.


She doesn’t believe that true love exists and trusting someone will only lead to heartbreak, but damn a girl has needs. I love that we have a female character who addresses sex like a man. It is nice for a change. More than that, I love that Natalie is a realistic girl. Since the story is told in dual POV we get to really know both characters and their inner thoughts. I loved the sexy times, their witty banter, and their love story unfolding.


This is not a cookie cutter story about a reformed man-whore or girl who realizes she can trust someone. No, it is so much more than that and outside the box. I love that Ms. Abel doesn’t follow the regular formula for romance/NA, but goes beyond it and does risky things. In the end, I felt like everything was just as it should be. I truly loved this and highly recommend it!!

He is a ladies man. He also is a surfer, works for Asia'a fiance Marcus and likes to sleep around. He doesn't really stick with one woman but the ladies still love him.



Then he meets Natalie and she shoots him down. He sees that as a challenge.

then Natalie finally decides benefits need to be added as well



which is good and very much wanted by the both of them.

I’m a great romance fan who can’t say no to steamy, toe curling story with intense plot. Freeing Asia, a debut novel by E M Abel was definitely that kind of read, so I just had to get my hands on author’s next novel. I had to find out if she can at least reach the same level of good. And yes, she can! E.M drawn me into Shaun’s story very quickly. It was hard not to enjoy reading about this womanizer who finally found a woman created just for him.



Shaun is Asia’s brother who is incredible playboy, he is wham – bam – thank you ma’am kind of man. One day he meets Natalie. A redhead that doesn’t do relationship, just an occasional one night stand. In Shaun’s eyes they are perfect match, they could fuck, have lots of fan and he won’t have to worry about some crazy girl attaching to him. Perfect, right?

But, Natalie doesn’t seem interested in him. Even telling Shaun no several times, Natalie has a hard time to let him go.



“Don’t pretend you don’t want me to fuck you. I can see it in those beautiful eyes of yours. You’ve wondered what it would be like, haven’t you?”

This novel was pure fun. From the beginning to the end you can’t help yourself but be turned on and feel your panties melt of off you. It’s dangerous to read E.M Abel’s book when they are people watching you. What’s more, when I wasn’t turn on, I was laughing or swooning. So kudos for that!

Although, the plot was simple and not very original, banter between the characters and my love for them both made up for it. They were so smokin’ hot together and amusing.

I also had an issue with one plot twist at the end. It was something I did not expect and I was very disappointed it happened. In some ways it felt rushed or not very well thought. I wish it could go a different road, but I got what I got.



Anyway, I still liked this book much! It kept me on my toes, made me giggle and melt. Awesome! So be ready for a wonderful roller coaster!

I've been stewing and stewing on my rating for a couple of weeks. It's very tough to rate a book when a personal bias comes into play as it did for me here. I had originally rated it a 3 star (liked it) read, but now bumping it up to a 3.5-4. Here's the thing, my personal bias aside, this was a highly entertaining and steamy book. I enjoyed the story and I loved the characters. Had it not been for a couple of things, this would have been a very solid 5 star read for me. So on to the review we go

There is one thing (well aside from a hot as fuck hero) that is guaranteed to make a book for me, and that's a fantastic heroine. I'm talking the type of heroine you don't read about about often enough. The type of heroine that isn't shy or meek. The type of heroine that owns her sexuality and isn't afraid of a little harmless sex. The type of heroine you'd call a cool as fuck chick, and Natalie was certainly all that and more.

She pretty much had me at

I never got nervous around guys. If anything, it was the other way around, and that was how I liked it. I had the pussy, which meant I called the shots. Sure, men liked to think they were in charge, and sometimes, I'd let them. It was easier that way. I'd play the role, smile and flutter my eyelashes, but I also had no problem telling men what I wanted and taking it. Men's egos were a lot like their dicks, always needing to be stroked. As long as they kept me satisfied, I didn't mind doing it.

Natalie was no sexual wallflower. She likes sex, but she's not looking for commitment. Her past hasn't exactly given her a reason to think that relationship of any sort lasts. So what happens when the manwhoring Shaun meets him female match?

Sparks fly.


Shaun is used to getting what he wants, and that includes his pick of women. He's not exactly lacking for female companionship. He's not looking for strings, just some mutually satisfying time between the sheets with whatever willing woman crosses his path. They may hate him in the morning when he sends them packing, but they certainly go home satisfied.

So when Natalie turns Shaun down flat, he's intrigued. When he discovers three months later that they share an inner circle of friends, he can't seem to get the gorgeous redhead out of his head. But Natalie is having none of it. She may be intensely attracted to Shaun, but she knows sex complicates things, so friendship it is. But can their friendship survive the scorching sexual chemistry between them?



Definitely not.

I loved that the author didn't throw Natalie and Shaun into bed together right away. She really lets you feel that sexual chemistry and burn between them. I also liked they neither of them were exactly abstinent during this time. E.M. Abel really stayed true to Natalie's character. She didn't just stop her normal sexual routine simply because she was intrigued and attracted to Shaun.

There was one part at around 28% that had me in a bit of 'what the fuck' and 'why did he do that' rage. I had a feeling that it was heading in a certain direction, but I kept hoping the author wouldn't take it there. I don't want to spoiler it but if you're curious about the first part of it you sure you want to know?Would't you rather just read it?Damn you're persistentOh alright, I'll spoiler it. Shaun gets drunk and sleeps with a girl that he meets in a bar. This is all fine and good had it not felt like a pity fuck on his behalf. She's very shy and begs Shaun to help make her ex jealous that they see at the club. They're both extremely drunk and don't remember much the next day.


This is in part why I had such a big issue with what happens later in the story, but I definitely won't be telling you what THAT is.

I also wouldn't have minded a little more story and a little less sex. It did feel stretched out at parts and could have been shorter. But then again, the sex was pretty damn hot. Shaun certainly doesn't disappoint, even if he does like to say "Goddamn" a bit too much. He made up for it with the rest of his delicious dirty talk.

The ending is the part I wasn't thrilled about. Well, not so much the ending itself, but parts that happen during it. Don't fret, there's a very nice HEA, even though I am extremely disappointed at one big part that played in it. I'm not sure why, but considering how the rest of the story stretched, I though the ending was a little rushed. I may think that simply because I'm still pissed about a certain thing that happens, so I may very well be the only one to think this.

Would I recommend this book? Definitely. My personal bias aside, I truly enjoyed it.

Would I read the next book? Definitely, though I'm a bit worried that I know who the heroine will be and I'm not sure how I feel about that. I hope I'm wrong.

Major love for this one !!!!



What an amazing second installment to E.M. series!! I had been looking forward to this one forever and it certainly did not disappoint. Sometimes we get these series and the first book is crazy good and you just can't wait to get your hands on the next one and then… you get a big letdown. That is so not the case with Breaking Shaun.. I might go so far as to say that I might love this one more Freeing Asia. OK.. maybe not more.. damn.. I don't know.. I loved them both hard... I loved me some Marcus and Asia ( especially Marcus—so yummy)….. but there was just something about that was a little edgier about Shaun and Natalie's story that I just loved. If you’ve not read FREEING ASIA yet, it’s not totally necessary to read it first, but you would be missing out big time on an amazing story. Plus you get introduced to Shaun in the first book and we see a good bit of Marcus and Asia and an awesome cast of characters that also show up in this one.. Again, not completely necessary to read it first.. but I’m telling you .. READ IT!

I loved the character of Natalie.. she was brass and edgy .. now she’s that way because of something in her past and it’s caused her to erect all kinds of walls around her heart. She’s beautiful, sarcastic, and tells it like it is. She definitely does not want a relationship.. she prefers simple one night stands with no strings ever… No one has ever rocked her world or made her consider having more until she meets Shaun..

My heart was racing. I didn't know how this man's presence had engulfed me, but I was surrounded. He obviously didn't have a shy bone in his body, and was clear he would say whatever he felt like saying, whenever he felt like saying it.

Now Shaun.. holy hells bells was he hot… Shaun is sexy, funny, and a total man ho. The ladies love him and he loves them back.. short term only! Shaun never sees himself settling down. He’ll hook up with the same chics from time to time, but the one’s he feels they are getting a little needy he just tosses them aside and moves on to the next one. Shaun has never met his match in any woman.. until he meets Natalie

When Shaun spots Natalie for the first time, he of course try’s to pick her up… although Natalie may be looking for a good time that night, something about Shaun and his cockiness tells her that she would be biting off more that she could chew with him.. so she shoots him down. Although Shaun was hoping to get lucky and he thought she was crazy gorgeous he rolled on.. he’d have no problem picking up someone else..

Well, as it turns out they are going to be running in the same circle now that she has moved in with her cousin back in Shaun's home town--- and do the sparks fly! As much as Natalie knows Shaun could probably show her the time of her life… he’s the first man she’s ever met that could break down her walls. Shaun is no different.. he recognizes something in Natalie that just calls out to him.. makes him feel something.. makes him want to do more, be more.. have more.


I'd promised myself a long time ago that I wouldn't let love break me. If that meant avoiding it, that was what I'd do. It might seem weak or cowardly, but at the age of twelve, it had made perfect sense. I managed to get his far unscathed, so why change now?


It’s not an easy road for these two, and I loved every single minute of it. They were so perfect together but both fought it so hard. When they were together though… Amazing… their chemistry was off the charts hot. They didn’t deny what their bodies wanted.. they only tried to deny what their hearts were telling them.

Is this what you wanted?" he whispered. He took my wrists in one had, and the other one came down to cup my breast.

Turning her around, I pressed her back against the wall and took her bikini off. Then, I got down on my knees. The water was hitting my back, and it was still cold, but I didn't give a shit. Damn, she tastes so good....



Intense chemistry and deciding to let each other in though may not be enough to overcome everything though…. Mistakes come back to bite one of them in the ass and it could change everything…


Damn… I actually found myself trying to slow down at the end of this one because I just did not want it to end... I could easily read another entire book on Shaun and Natalie. They were just that interesting of a couple. They each had layers to get through and personalities that just jumped off the pages.. E.M really created such an awesome story here. I just loved it……

Although this book finally had to end and I was sorry to get to that final page… that epilogue has completely got me ready for the next book ..which will feature Jay! JAY JAY JAY... I just love Jay so much and I am beyond excited to see what E.M has in store for him. Jay needs his story, Jay needs his happily ever after.. and I just can't wait , CAN'T wait to see him get it.


E.M. is crazy talented and her words have a way of just pulling you into her story.. don’t let this series pass you up…. Romance with a little drama, very little angst… insane hot couples with some very VERY hot sexy times (and E.M doesn’t skimp on details ;) ). I'm so sorry this one's over.. and I have a feeling I'll be going back and doing a re-read of Freeing Asia pretty soon and I know I'll be re-reading this one in the future too. I can never have me too much Marcus or Shaun. But let me add.. her female leads are totally amazing also. They are strong even if wounded.. they are opinionated and have no problem mouthing off. All her characters are just so f'king fun..

Now the waiting game for Jay's story.....

This book surprised me. While I enjoyed Freeing Asia I loved Breaking Shaun. This book is why I love new adult. It was fun and sexy, with an interesting plot.

Shaun and Natalie have a brief encounter at Asia's art show. He hits on Natalie, but she refuses. Months later they find themselves running into each other again. They are attracted to each other, and share commitment issues. But decide to try to be friends anyway.

“Don’t pretend you don’t want me to fuck you. I can see it in those beautiful eyes of yours. You’ve wondered what it would be like, haven’t you?”

Natalie is a sexy, strong and assertive woman. She comes off as a wild child, always on the move. She just doesn't believe in love and has always avoided all types of relationships, never wanting to depend on anyone other than herself.

My life felt like a constant battle. I was always fighting to protect myself, to survive, to be happy, and I was so tired of it. I just wanted peace.

Shaun is a cocky, asshole, but he's honest. He has seen what losing love can do, and he is determined to never let that happen to him. He is straight forward and enjoys living his life by his own standards.

“I’m an asshole. You should probably know that before we go any further. I say what the fuck I want to say, and I’m honest to a fault, so when I hear someone spewing bullshit, I don’t hesitate to point it out. I don’t like playing fucking games,"

Shaun and Natalie grow tried of fighting their attraction and start to act on their feelings. Just sex. No expectations. But all like stories like this...feelings grow.



This was a steamy read, when these two get together, it's hot. And they seriously get it on ALL OVER THE PLACE.



Just when things seem to falling into place, the bottom drops.Something unexpected happens. Some may hate it, I liked it. It's what made this story more memorable, in my opinion. I did not expect this book to make me emotional, but it did. The author did a great job taking a difficult situation and showing how in the end, even what may seen bad, can have great beauty. And it was nice catching up with Marcus, Asia and Nick. Highly recommend this great summer read.

The things I'd once seen as mistakes had ended up being the best decisions of my life.

Breaking Shaun is the sophomore book by EM Abel, in it we are reintroduced to Shaun and Natalie. The two had met at the end of Freeing Asia and run into each other again months down the road and the sexual tension between them is felt from the start.

Natalie, is the kind of heroine that I love. She is confident and makes no apologies for who she is and the decisions she makes.


Shaun...wow. He is cocky and self assured, but right off the bat you knew that under his aloof attitude layed a man who was afraid to let himself love.


Now my feelings on the book- I'll start off with WOW. This is the type of story I love. It was funny, sexy (the smut level is off the charts) and emotional. There was a great flow to the story. I also appreciated that she took time to develop their relationship- but my favorite aspect of the story: it had character growth. I was so I impressed by the growth in EM Abel's writing since Freeing Asia. This was a home run read for me and a book I highly recommend. 5 Stars!

Why are all of my NA reading friends not reading this book right now?!?!?!?!? Clamor for it, you lovelies. This was...ahem...excuse me...pretty fuckhot. And with a twist that somehow really just fit with Shaun and Natalie's story. A total WTF incident that at first had me thinking whaaaaaaaaat? And then the author slowly made me not only accept it, but made me love it.

Natalie...she's hella cool.

There's enough of a background on her that you get a sense of who she is without it feeling like she's constantly throwing a pity party and dwelling on the "poor me" aspects of her life. Girl's had it rough but she doesn't let it define her. She's unapologetically Natalie and I loved that about her. She knows she has issues. She's ashamed of some aspects of her life and not exactly without insecurities. But she's also very kindhearted and normal. She's sexual but not so aggressive that it turned me away from her. Basically, she's strong enough to take on Shaun and not be ruined.

"Have you ever been with someone like me?" I asked Shaun.
He watched me, his hand still stroking his dick through his jeans, but he didn't respond.
"Women like me don't fall for guys like you. We don't come when you call, we don't beg for your attention, and we don't confuse sex with love. Women like me Break men like you."

Shaun...**heavy breathing** Oh my.


Shaun's twenty six years old and up until now, he's been perfectly fine with the way he lives his life. No, it's not that he wants to settle down and have a serious relationship. I felt like he really was just fed up with a meaningless existence. A crossroads in his life, I guess. Everyone has these moments of discontent, and that's where Shaun is when this book starts out. He's quite the hottie, so girls are never an issue, but he's very careful never to lead one into thinking there is more to him than one night.

"Yeah, I knew how to sweet talk my way into a woman's panties, but I never filled her with false hope. I never promised anyone I'd be her boyfriend and take her out on dates. When I made promises, I always kept them, and the most I'd ever promised a woman was multiple orgasms."

Sound like a fairy tale prince? Not hardly. But believe me when I say that Shaun has enough heart and soul to win over the most skeptical of women.

I rarely think of the perfect song for a book, and although the overall tone of this story is a little more rocker than this, I kept thinking of Sheryl Crow's "Strong Enough" while reading this.

I can't say or hint at what eventually endears me to him so much, but I can say that it's a doozy. Shaun shows his true character in a way that a hero rarely gets to. And it somehow fit this wild, unexplainable relationship that he and Natalie come to have. Natalie, too, gets to shine, gets to prove how not only resilient she is, but how completing yourself by giving yourself is the best way to live.


All of this takes place in Virginia, where the beach and surfing are readily available. The sea seems to be Shaun's first true love, and it's there that he and Natalie first start to really bond as friendly lovers. I loved that they could have fun together, and it's becoming evident that this goofy realism is part of E.M. Abel's language.

This is a somewhat angsty book, but very very different from book one. Namely, the love triangle is gone and this is really the story of two extremely similar people fighting their own feelings for each other. They're adorably confused.

Last but definitely not least, I can't write this entire review without mentioning the sex. Holy Freaking HELL, people! You want to talk about some word porn, this book needs to be read with a man handy. Shoot, read those scenes with your man and then act them out verbatim. Spice it up, be ready to rumble. This. Was. Fuckhot. There's no other word for it, it's a panties gone kind of book. Shaun...there are no words. He's just the perfect amount of confidence and cockiness, rough and gentle, alpha and beta, and all those other opposites that men tend to forget when it comes to play.

For Marcus/Asia lovers, you won't be disappointed. They are a big part of the story. And for Jay lovers like me, he even make a couple of cameo appearances. AND he gets a teaser at the end of the book that both breaks your heart and riles you up. Now I'm being greedy, but I seriously cannot WAIT for Jay's book.

Wow, E.M. Abel does it again! I loved the first book in this series, Freeing Asia, especially Marcus. *wags eyebrows* But, honestly I think Breaking Shaun was even better than FA and I rated it five stars, as well. Breaking Shaun is about Shaun, Asia's brother.



He is an extremely hot, cocky, manwhore who one day meets his match in a sexy, redheaded version of himself.

"Men's egos were a lot like their dicks, always needing to be stroked."

Natalie is confident, knows what she wants in life or so she thinks until she starts to fall for this new arrogant man.

E.M. Abel has a writing style that I enjoy to read. She provides a realistic storyline with imperfect characters; with just the right dose of sex and a heavy tug at my heart leaving me a bit emotional. Breaking Shaun was a solid 4 STAR read for me.
I need Jay’s book like..NOW! I am eager for him I loved him in Freeing Asia and getting a piece of him in Breaking Shaun was not enough I NEED MORE!

I really liked this one, better than the first. Loved the banter between Shaun and Natalie! And it was smokin' hot!!



Shaun is Asia's brother.....who we met in Freeing Asia. He's a surfer and works for Marcus.

Natalie is Nick's cousin and has just moved to town. She needs a change.....she's on her own for the first time in her life. Up until now, her life has been a bore.



She wants some adventure and spontaneity.

Shaun is of course a man-whore. He doesn't do relationships. Good news, Natalie is what you'd call the female version of a man-whore. She's a woman-whore. Natalie doesn't do relationships either.

Sounds like a match made in heaven right? More like they've both met their match. These two were stubborn as hell. Casual sex? There was nothiing casual about these too...just neither one would admit their feelings for each other.



Shaun and Natalie had great chemistry.

But before Shaun and Natalie can really decide what they want from each other, Shaun gets some rather shocking news.



I really loved how Shaun handled it.

But how will the news effect Shaun and Natalie's already fragile, new "relationship"? Will they finally admit their feelings for each other? Will they be over before they even begin?

This was pretty low on the angst side, which was exactly what I needed. And what angst was there, was resolved pretty quickly and relatively drama free. Major plus.

Really enjoyed this addition to the Breaking Free series and I look forward to reading Jay's book!

Since meeting Shaun in Freeing Asia I could not wait to read his story. And I loved seeing the growth in Shaun by the end of this book.






Natalie and Shaun met one night at Asia's art show. The attraction was immediate but for Natalie it was also dangerous. So, she rejects him, something that never happens to Shaun. A few months, pass and now Natalie is moving into town and is staying with her cousin. This means the inevitable will happen, they will bump into each other. And of course they do. The attraction is still strong. And resisting Shaun is becoming more and more difficult for Natalie. Which I was so freaking happy about.


I really liked Natatlie, she was comfortable with her sexuality without it being too much. She was strong, confident, and independent. She's not afraid to get what she wants, and if she needs a man to get off, she will look for one. She was kind of the female version of Shaun which is what made their relationship so entertaining. She could also be very vulnerable, soft, and kind. I really did like her a lot.





Shaun was...well he was just so smokin' hot!! I have no idea who I liked more, if it was Shaun or Marcus because they are both pretty damn sexy. Shaun was very confident, arrogant, and a total manwhore. But he was also very loving, caring, and protective. And he was very straightforward and said things like he saw it. I loved Shaun!! I couldn't get enough of him. Even though he did hurt me at one time, I still loved him.


As soon as I started the book, I was very hooked. It was just so freaking entertaining seeing the way Shaun would try to woo Natalie. And I don't blame Natalie one bit for falling into his bed. Together they were scorching. However, I did feel like a few times near the middle, that I needed more story and a tad bit less sex. I know what you're thinking, 'that's just crazy talk'. Although, I really did enjoy the insanely hawt sex scenes, this is just a personal preference kind of thing, I needed a bit more story so it didn't feel like it was dragging on a little. Either way, I loved that intense chemistry between these two. And I loved it even more when their feelings started to change.

There was one part that caught me completely off guard, this is where things picked up again for me. I couldn't believe it. I loved the drama that ensued and the angst as well. That last part of the book had me not wanting to put the book down, at all. The ending just warmed my heart completely. I swooned and melted. I was so freaking happy for them. And then that epilogue...I need to read Jay's book!!! I really hope he finally finds some happiness because he is a really great guy. There was a little bit of everything in this book, which I enjoyed. I was glad that I loved both main characters. And the story was great too. Overall, I really enjoyed this book a lot. Now, I can't wait for Jay's book!

Ms. Abel went beyond my expectations in her second installment of the Breaking Free series. I enjoyed Freeing Asia but holy sh*t, I absolutely love Breaking Shaun. Breaking Shaun was one hell of a sexy angsty roller-coaster ride that will have readers begging for more Shaun. Ummm….Shaun may teach you how to surf but this fellow doesn’t need any teaching when it comes to the bedroom, car, beach, shower, parking lot or any available surface.

In Freeing Asia, Shaun met a gorgeous auburn-hair bombshell who caught his attention at Asia’s art exhibit. Unfortunately for Shaun, she knew his game and wasn’t succumbed to his charm. Fast forward a couple of months, call it luck or fate reunited Shaun to cross path with Natalie, the auburn beauty who got away. Shaun being a man whore that he is continues to flirt and charm his ways into Natalie’s pants. And so the chase begins when Natalie snubs Shaun a couple of times.

Natalie is the female version of Shaun. She doesn’t do relationships. She is free spirited, independent and loves to be in control. So what happens when two hot single individuals who loves sex and to be in control? Well one of them has to lose control. Shaun and Natalie might think they have the perfect solution...friends with benefits, no string attached. Well, little do these two know, they might be more than breaking the record with their number of orgasms but also breaking down the walls to each other’s heart.

Ahhh..let me just tell you how much I love the sexual chemistry of Shaun and Natalie. It was fun, hot,steamy and oozing with sexiness. The raw physical and emotional aspect of their relationship was what made the story-line enjoyable. I have always been a fan of friends to lovers and it was amazing to see the transformation of growth of Shaun and Natalie. They are not perfect individuals and will make mistakes but to see the progression of how love can heal and transform lives is truly breathtaking.

Ms. Abel’s writing and storytelling of Breaking Shaun was amazing. I did not want to put this book down and found myself fully enraptured in Shaun and Natalie’s relationship. The characters were fun and relatable and the emotions were raw. Breaking Shaun was a fun, emotional, and oozing with sexiness read. Ms. Abel does not give you cookie cutter romance but in your face real raw romance and that’s why I loved Breaking Shaun. The ending might not be your perfect and expected HEA but I loved how two strong independent people found love. Breaking Shaun was a perfect reminder that sometimes people put up walls, not to keep others out, but to see who actually cares enough to break them down. And for Shaun, it was Natalie and vice versa.

This book had me a bit torn in how to rate it. On the one hand, I once again loved the beauty of E.M Abel's words and how she is able to write an awesome story. On the other hand, there were a few things that did irk me about the story. I will say though, once the story was all said and done, I was very satisfied with the results and I had the "feeling good" vibe that I get after I have read a wondeful book! So, in saying all of that..I decided to give it a four star rating, and another big pat on the back for Ms. Abel..She really is a talented author, and I have decided that I would be willing to read anything and everything that she writes!

"Breaking Shaun," is about two individuals who are very similiar to one another, and they both have a lot of changing to do before they will be for one another. Shaun is Asia's brother from the first book, and he is an asshole! He even says it himself that he is a jerk; but because he is a major HOT,muscular, studly asshole-the ladies come flocking to him without him having to put any effort in to it! To say that he is a male slut, is putting it mildly. This guy gets around, and he makes no promises..well..he makes one...and that would be that he will pleasure the lady he is with so that she will want to come back for more. The only trouble with that is...she is NOT welcome to come back for more. Underneath all his love them and leave them attitude though, is a man who is quite sensitive--and he is so good with children. He even teaches the little ones to surf; but nobody knows about that! It is really quite a shame that he doesn't wish to settle down with anyone. Even his close friend told him:

"You've got it confused, Shaun. Love doesn't tie you down. It sets you free."

Shaun totally disagrees until the day he meets a woman who is exactly the same as him; Natalie!
She is a female version of Shaun; but deep down she just wants to belong to somebody and be loved. The fear gets in the way though, so she goes along her life loving and leaving them as well. When Shaun walks into her life, the attraction is explosive. They both fight it at first; but eventually they decide to be friends. Of course, as time goes on the friendship gets deeper and the attraction grows stronger! When these two give into each other; I kid you not..they are on fire!! The sex between these two is off the charts, and even a bit kinky! You have two alphas that know to get it on!!! WHEW! This book does not lack for scorching hot scenes in the bedroom! Or, I should say..anywhere BUT the bedroom!! They really are creative!

My biggest complaint with the story was that before Shaun and Natalie get together, there is a lot of them sleeping with other people. I am a firm believer in my romance books that the couple should be all consuming to each other. Even the males who get around..I love to see them meet their heroine and then no one else will do. Call me a romantic at heart; but that is what I prefer. Don't get me wrong, there is NO cheating in this book. So, truthfully I could overlook it a bit, especially once it was over. During it though, I was getting frustrated with it. This brings us to the big TWIST in the story. All I will say about it is this: I wanted to throw my Kindle across the room and stomp on it!! I love it way too much to do that though, so I behaved! I knew what was coming..In fact, I had guessed pretty much from the beginning that this was going to happen. I do want to give a huge credit to E.M. that she was able to pull the twist off in a very wonderful and tasteful way! I enjoyed what she did, and it just goes to show you how talented she really is!

This story is a wonderful addition to the "Breaking Free" series..and I can't wait for Jay's story. I am crossing my fingers that Ms. Abel is hiding away writing so that we can have it soon! *cough*..HINT HINT!
I highly recommend this book, even with my complaints; it was an excellent story, written by an exceptional author!

This book is your typical book about 2 MCs with commitment issues, each of them for their very own reasons.

When Natalie and Shaun lives cross paths they are instantly attracted to each other..
First they start with being friends.. but of course that isn't enough.
So they add a benefit.. and they become fuck buddies..



Because that always works so well, right?



What follows are lots of sexy, sweet, and funny moments between Natalie and Shaun..



But every action has its consequences.. and the last 20% deals with these consequences..

What I mean is the "twist" near the end. Honestly it didn't bother me much.. But that could be only the case because I knew about it from the beginning.. So I was prepared.. Still I think that the MCs handled that situation good... But the ending felt a little too rushed for me.
Also positive was that Natalie didn't strain my nerves..



Overall I enjoyed this book..

It is told from a dual point of view of Natalie and Shaun.
Shaun is a kick ass surfer

However,he is a one night stand kind of man.
Hot as hell but leaves the minute the condom comes off.
He is starting to feel the boredom of one nights stands and the trouble that comes with them.


He meets Natalie and she is the female version of him.
She has had a rough life and does not want anything to do with Shaun and the trouble that comes with it.

They run with the same crowd so keep seeing each other.
Eventually they give in and the passion explodes off the page.


You will love this story cover to cover.
It will make you laugh, cry, swoon. I felt like I was one of the characters just hanging out with them watching it all happen.
The writting is execelent and you FEEL what they are going through.

You get why they are doing what they are doing. It is a awesome read that I highly recommened!

There are so many unique, memorable aspects to this plot, and what it delivers at its core is the indelible strength of family and friends.

The dual narrative strands weave brilliantly, the plot gliding with ease as these two alpha-type personalities twist together. It isn't bashful with its copious sex and humor. You'll feel like you're sleeping with them, or at the very least, wishing you were.

Nothing is lacking here, and certainly not the chemistry between Shaun and Natalie. You'll feel their sparks, their push and pull for the palpable inevitability between them, but it doesn't come without heavy decisions and a confrontation of insecurities.

Shaun is a tasty dish that feeds the romantic heart despite his hesitancy to hand over his. There are several predictable avenues that could've developed here, but E.M. delivers a conclusion that is unconventional and sentimental in its complexity. I highly recommend this refreshing, unforgettable love story.

Both have their own fears.


Shaun and Natalie both have their guards up. A ‘no-strings’ situation loosens their inhibitions. But what’s left in the aftermath? Hmmm… let’s just say it’s not perfect but perfect for them.

Did I pique your interest? I hope so.

Natalie moves in with her gay male cousin in Virginia with hopes of starting fresh from a past that’s left her with a backbone of steel. Meeting Shaun throws her for a loop, one she thinks she can manage.

Shaun is our favorite playboy surfer. He has a simple life, but his lifestyle is beginning to become a bit monotonous. Striking up a rare female ‘friendship’ with Natalie does the trick, but his carefree lifestyle comes back to bite him.

E.M. delivers a hot and somewhat angsty read. The twist she throws in there really is a heart-stopper!

I just can’t get over it. It was a twist I kinda saw coming, but was hoping wouldn’t be true! Let’s just say Natalie is a much stronger person than I would have been!

From book one I have been a Marcus and Jay supporter, so I was unsure going into this book whether the 3rd male character, Shaun, from Breaking Asia would capture my attention. But he sure did. Mission accomplished!

I liked Freeing Asia a lot. It wasn't the best book that I've read but I felt like it hit on some really great points about finding yourself and believing in yourself. It was good stuff...

But this... this was soooooo good! It had just the right amount of angst and drama without going overboard. The characters were not whiny and there wasn't a great deal of meaningless inner monologue. The story was realistic but also original. Although we all know of someone or may be someone who has had a situation similar to what Shaun and Natalie go through I have not read a book before that took it on the way this one did. It was nice of course to catch up with Marcus and Asia and even that sexiness known as Jay had a few appearances... I think I am most excited for his book to be honest! I want to get inside that pretty head of his!!! ;D I enjoyed that Natalie was a strong female, without losing her femininity or seeming like she was trying too hard to be tough. She bent, she cried, she definitely showed emotion but she did not break. Excellent!

I always try to write a spoiler free review and this one will be no different so if you're looking for hints and clues you won't find them here. Ah, I wish I could say more. Oh yeah, I got so caught up in the story and what I liked about the characters I forgot to mention the fact that it is SCORCHING hot. It is a slow burn and by the time they get down to it you are more than ready for it. I'll say one thing in regards to the lovin': Mirror Sex!!! When this one comes out READ IT!!!!!

I am a firm believer that if an author can out do their first book with their second that they have made it in the writing world.

E.M Abel has done this. Breaking Shaun is a brilliant, sexy, magnetic story about 2 people who have so many walls around them and need to find the person with the right size sledge hammer. This book is a true love story that will stay with me a while.

Firstly I did not receive this book as an arc, and I do not know the author.....nope I paid cold hard cash for it and I did that because I really liked the first book in this series and was totally intrigued by Shaun when he appeared in that book....well this book certainly wasn't a 'second book in the series' let down, and it was totally worth the couple of quid that it cost me.

To be totally honest the first, maybe 20% of the book, I found a teeny bit slow......but I think that's just because Im always impatient to get to the sex part and then from about 50% I totally couldn't put the bloody book down and wanted more more more.....so thats why I knocked off half a star as I'd would have loved a little less build up at the start but a bit more detail towards the end.....however don't let my eagerness to get to the sexy bits put you off.....over all I really feel this was an amazing read.

In Shaun, the author gave me my favourite kind of alpha male, he was cocky and arrogant and he made me laugh as well as turning me the hell on. In Natalie, the author gave me my favourite kind of leading lady, she knew her own mind, she wasn't dependent on any man, and although she had insecurities, that didn't mean she let men walk all over her.

The story line kept me intrigued and the sex scenes were right up there at the top of my list entitled "authors who know how to write great shagging scenes" and my other list of "books that require tissues and not because I cried!!!!....wink, wink"

Alright, I can't hold off until the release, so here it goes.

I was generously given an ARC by the author for a...ahh because she's awesome.

Number twos. Second books in series' almost always manage to disappoint. At least that's what I've experienced. Even when the plot seems decent, the execution is just so off balance that the story is hard to finish, let alone take seriously.

E.M. Abel completely managed to blow that problem out of the water.

In this 'continuation', we meet Shaun (bring an extra pair of panties or two), Asia's older brother.



What we know of Shaun from Freeing Asia is pretty simple.
He's an asshole.
He's cocky.
He loves sex.
Hates the idea of being tied down.

You might be thinking that you'll go into this book and you'll see this "other side" of Shaun that's sweet and caring and...nope.
Shaun is an asshole.
And you absolutely can't help but to love him.
Why? Because as much of an asshole as he may be, he's an honest asshole and he's a safe (in the bedroom) asshole, and that's the best you can ask for in such a case. Shaun's irrational hatred of relationships simply stems from watching his father's heartache after losing his wife/their mother and honestly, rightfully so. I'm not saying that it's a good excuse to write off love, but it's understandable. His lifestyle suits him; partying, casual sex, surfing, partying, partying, couple hours at work here and there, sex. The problem is, it's starting to get old, and why wouldn't it?

Shaun is tired of the typical girls he takes to bed. All of them expect what he isn't willing to give. Shaun wants the female version of himself, attached only in the bedroom. And he thinks he's found her.

Now, cut to the beautiful, funny, REAL down to earth Natalie.



When I read Freeing Asia, I had finally found a female lead in a story that I could really, FULLY relate to. I can't relate to a 5'9 milky skinned blonde with an unhealthy love for expensive shoes. So, with Asia, it was an instant love.

Natalie is not Asia. She's a milky skinned, non "svelt" redhead. And I absolutely adored her. Too often, I read about female characters that play the part of tomboy or "down to earth", "modest", etc. Yet the author manages to make them...pompous, conceited, materialistic, superficial. Natalie was none of the above. She didn't have a shopping fetish and didn't have a problem with spending money she doesn't have for a pair of "killer heels". She was a woman who knew who the fuck she is, pardon my French, and handled herself like a pro without stepping on others along the way. In fact, she grew up taking care of others, her sister to be exact, giving up her young life for one of responsibility (after a traumatic experience) and still doesn't let it drag her down or dictate her life. She was perfect.....and she has a nice ass.

When Natalie joins her cousin in Virginia, she's looking to start anew. Maybe settle down after living such a nomadic life (another thing I can easily relate to), always having the urge to pack up and leave at a moment's notice. This woman is confident, self sufficient, clever, aware of what she looks like and how she can use it for herself. In so many areas, her and Shaun match to a T.

Which is why it makes it all the more fun to watch them deny each other. Well...until they can't. I'd rather not describe them too much, they need to be read.

What I loved so much about this story, the reason it went above and beyond the way most Twos don't?

1) Abel's writing style is so natural and easy flowing. The dialogue is believable, casual. Too often, I find that some dialogue in books seems so forced or unrealistic, things you'd never hear someone say in real life. With Abel, it's like hanging around friends. I have not ONCE found myself irritated with any of the dialogue in Freeing Asia or Breaking Shaun.

2) Supporting/side characters. Not annoying. My GOD, I can't stress enough how often a "best friend" in a book is a complete goddamn asshat, and more so deserves a kick to the baby cave over an ice cream and shopping day together. Abel's characters, once again, made you feel like they were people you could easily be around. Family, friends, lord even Cupcake. And DAMMIT what I wouldn't give to have a session with Asia, JUST to watch her freak out at a knock at the door.

3) Asia and Marcus. Ohhhh, you beautiful jerks, I love you two so much. What you see of them in this book is just perfect. The amount they're featured, what they take part in (and what they don't), their influence, etc. They made me cry a bit, the assholes, and I don't do that often. I missed them somethin terrible. Asia, you're still the hetero love of my life.


4) Dad. Go, dad. GO, DAD. Tell Shaun and tell him good.


5) Cupcake's story. One thing I hate is knowing what's going to happen before it happens. I'm tired of reading books with the same "twist" that isn't really a twist. What Abel did with that situation was hint enough to just seem like casual discussion about a relevant topic tied to Dre. She didn't overdo it, didn't slap you in the face with it constantly or hang a sign over it that said "FORESHADOWING" in case you missed third grade English. The best part about it, though, was that she didn't go the easy route and make Cupcake a raging bitch, a stalker, a gold digger, a girl with ulterior motives. Nothing. Cupcake was just...there, dealing with a little heartache, which led her somewhere she couldn't go. I couldn't even try to be upset with her and THAT was refreshing. The "twist" itself was done so well, I actually did a, "Oh shit." Also, I LOVED Shaun here. For such an asshole, he made the right damn decision -on the spot, shocked, confused and troubled with other areas of his life- right away. Natalie, she was absolutely wonderful for the position she took in all of this. Her insecurities were understandable. After all, what can compete with a natural love like that? But, hell, she made the right choice, too. Even if it did take her longer.

6) Now...let's talk about how I haven't blushed since I was in middle school. Abel demolished that record of mine. I have NOT blushed, giggled, or looked around (an empty house) to make sure no one noticed since...I don't know when.

I had to walk goddamn laps around my living room to calm down. I feel like it was her way of poking at my pains. I'd been telling her for weeks that her teasers of Shaun made my crotch hurt. She showed no mercy. You win, Abel. *white flag* You're destroying me for other men with a damn BOOK. -_-

7) Abel didn't come up with some crackpot, off the wall idea for this book and characters in hopes that it might shock or wow the readers into loving it. You JUST love it. When Natalie and Shaun make the decision to go for it, you know THEY know they're in for trouble. They're not oblivious. They weren't blindsided by love, really. They accepted it.

8) Any time an author avoids demonizing marijuana, I appreciate it. Flat out. This whole lazy, broke, burnout, junkie "pot" users thing got old a long time ago, authors. LONG time ago. AND any time an author avoids slut shaming, I appreciate it. Casual sex does not make you a "slut" ladies and gents. It means you're comfortable with your sexuality, which Natalie is.




I'm almost positive I'll come back to this when my offspring isn't harassing me with requests for math books (seriously, what four year old does that?), but for now, I can only say:

I will not, in any way, be able to do any sort of justice to this book in a silly review. Abel has completely wowed me and the best part is that I didn't doubt it for a second and WASN'T let down for a change. Again, as with Freeing Asia, I can't find a fault in Breaking Shaun and I can't imagine others doing so. ARC or not, I'll be buying Breaking Shaun when it's released. Abel deserves it.


Oh, and that "other side" of Shaun I said doesn't exist?

We meet Shaun Fuller in Freeing Asia. He's a cocky S.O.B. Bad boy you can't help but want a crack at. In his own story, Breaking Shaun, we're introduced to a guy who is just brutally honest: it's all about the sex. He doesn't want more, and you're a fool to expect it.
Enter Natalie. She's more than a match for the unbreakable Shaun. If her past has taught her anything, it's to expect nothing from no one, and certainly not to take shit from a man who is far too full of himself.

Which essentially means: some serious fireworks between these two! Their journey is a roller coaster ride with a jaw dropping, soul-burning, blind-siding conclusion. You DO NOT see it coming.

E.M. Abel has surpassed herself with this sequel to Freeing Asia. It just keeps getting better! I loved both books, but Breaking Shaun takes the cake!

Four Solid Stars

I swear, when I read the synopsis for this book, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. First off, I LOVED the first book in this series, so I knew I was in for a treat when I found out there was more to come from this author. Secondly, I am a sucker for strong heroines; the ones who don’t live life within the norm. In this case, Natalie is as promiscuous as the Hero. I love a heroine who can hang with the big boys. I knew I was going to like this.

Why can’t I find a woman like me - someone who loves sex but doesn’t need a relationship to justify it? Do women like that even exist?

Shaun is gorgeous, athletic, and just downright sexy. Women flock to him for good reason and he’s all for taking advantage. He’s not one for relationships, I mean, why bother with opening up to anyone when it all leads to heartache anyway, right? At least that’s his way of thinking. Plus who needs to be tied down when you can have your pick? But his carefree womanizing lifestyle comes with annoyances, especially when those women want more. But Natalie was different; has he finally met his match?

I had the pussy, which meant I called the shots.

Well, well, well. What do we have here? How fucking awesome is Natalie? This, my dear friends, is a heroine after my own heart. Natalie is one of those characters I like to live vicariously through. She’s beautiful, smart and knows who she is and makes no apologies for it. She doesn’t need anyone, especially a man, to tell her how to live her life. However, she knows there’s something different about Shaun. He can most definitely be a game changer.

As much as I’d hated the idea of being used by men, I’d enjoyed the idea of using them. And I had. I’d used them to make me feel wanted, I’d used them to make me feel special, and I’d used them to get off. It had almost become a sport for me.

Shaun has a pull on her and she doesn’t like it. Their attraction to one another is fucking electric. They’re trying to keep things on a friends-only basis, but their chemistry is undeniable. Neither wants a relationship, but they can no longer fight their attraction. Oh what to do, what to do.

We were about to fuck each other’s brains out.

They’re two Alphas trying to make their situation work. Do they have what it takes to keep their arrangement?

I loved Shaun and Natalie. When both characters are as strong-willed as they are, its hard not to love them. Their banter, their constant flirting and innuendos: I was in stuck between heaven and hell. I craved relief and when I got it, HOLY SMOKES! But there was more to this story then their never-ending battle of the wills. This story had so much going for it, plus it was so well written, but for me, there was just something from preventing it from being more than four stars. No worries, this story still rocked and I can’t wait to read the next installment. Oh, Jay…**sigh**

Meet Shaun. Cocky, gorgeous, and gets whatever or whomever he wants. Problem is, being a player is getting old and Shaun no longer sees the fun in a good old “pump & dump”. He needs a woman who isn’t needy, someone who has the same issues he does…even if he is afraid to admit what those issues are. A woman who is happy to use him as much as he uses her…

Beautiful, confident, doesn’t take crap from anyone. That’s Natalie. Having a rough start in life and being thrust into adulthood way too early has hardened her heart in all ways possible. It’s easier to “get in, get off & get out” rather than stick around…when the feelings get involved, only she will end up hurt. Life is less complicated when it’s controlled…but where is the fun in that?

Natalie needs a fresh start in her life, so moving across the country to be closer to her family is where she starts. She never imagined she would find so much more than just those personal relationships she craves…meeting people who are genuine and kind throw her for a loop…with one extremely persistent Alpha pushing to the front and center of not just her mind, but possibly her heart.

There you have it. Two seemingly confident, easy people who use sex as an escape from reality…both afraid of commitment, but for some reason find the courage to try with each other. Except being friends is a large gray area, and neither one realizes when they’ve crossed the line.

It’s all fun and games until your past comes back to haunt you…or slap you in the face.

Let me just start by saying…I LOVED THIS BOOK! Like loved it more than the first…EM, these just keep getting better and better. This story pulled me in so many different directions, I literally swooned at 72%--SWOONED!!! Shaun and Natalie are a perfect duo…and I got the hugest kick out of Mandy (I know her in real life), I can honestly say—strong female roles are totally hot and this was written superbly. I really can’t say enough about this book, I mean, I read it in one day…if that says anything at all!
