Basically this manga is as follows:

Story 1: Haha. Cute. -- Oh noes! -- Oh noes x 2 -- Shining beacon of hope -- Aww -- {sad} -- HAPPINESS

Story 2: Haha. Cute -- Okay that's weird but kinda funny -- Empathy for tragic backstory -- OH NOES -- Cautious hope -- happiness

Story 3: Haha. Cute. -- Huh, so that's how it starts -- Awww -- Uh oh -- Awww -- What? No No No No -- Maybe... -- hopeful... -- ALL THE TEARS FOREVER

Bonus story: {sniffles} -- Can't...appreciate...cuteness -- STILL CRYING

_________

Then you keep the book and read it like fifteen more times thinking that either you misinterpreted the ending and there's no need for tears, or that surely *years later* you are mature enough to get through this book without crying only to find out you aren't.

3 stars for the first two stories, 4.5 for the last one.

I found this both creepy and heartbreaking. I read it because I love both Junjo Romantica and Sekai ichi Hatsukoi. Usually, I'm not that big a fan of her art style, but it works really well here. And usually I also find human doll stories incredibly disturbing, and okay, it's not really any different here but I think what made the difference was the story about the doll's creator which was so heartwrenching and saddening it pretty much overshadowed the creepiness. :/ One scene pretty much gutted me, and I think it'll stay with me for a long time. (The one with the cherry tree branch. Oh god :( )

I wish... that the rain would never stop. That way... I could lock you up inside of me... if only for a little while.

My heart still aches for Kuroda every time I think about this (nearly all the time) and I think I would never recover from this. It has wounded me like Winter Cicada did, and that was many years ago...

To be honest, I don't like her drawing and story-telling, but this one is an exception. I like historical, Taisho-era tragic love story, and this one here, though more or less AU-compromised, is a tearjerker too many.

Here's one scene I love the most through out this book. It's the one scene when the hybrid character gave its maker a branch of sakura--something that the maker's previous lover had once done in the past--doesn't lose its power to affect the readers. It's drawn simple, yet raw and emotional. I cried at that, I admit.

Story 3,5/5
Charaktere 3,5/5
Zeichenstil 2/5
Herzfaktor 4/5

A sweet, heart-warming series of love stories about the ‘hybrid child’, a type of living doll which gorws and develops depending on the affection lavished upon them by their owners. Kuroda, the dollmaker is haunted by the memory of a young man he once loved and lost, trying to recreate him in the hybrid child, knowing he can never succeed. Or can he? Several of his creations end up finding happiness of their own along with humanity, thanks to the various young men who own them. One of these owners is Saya, Kuroda’s old friend, whom is equally haunted by the past and his hybrid child helps him to live again, in spite of old ghosts. Each one of these stories is heartwarming and connected to the next, leading up the tragic tale of the young man the hybrid child is modelled after. How these stories interweave with their creator’s lost love and all the bonds which follow after is expressed in a bittersweet, earnest, and inspiring mixture, showing the courage of each one of these characters and how they carry on. For doing all of this in a beautiful art style, I give this four stars.

Dolor. Tristeza. Amor.

"Las vidas que conocíamos desaparecerán,

Es por eso que guardé esa imagen,

De nuestras vidas que conocíamos tan bien,

Grabé esta eterna marca en mí.

E incluso si llega la mañana

Tan solo seguiré respirando normalmente...

No lloraré."

No exagero.

*while I wrote this for the OVA adaptation, it also fits the manga. From my old blog*

Most know Shungiku Nakamura as the mangaka of Junjou Romantica, which in my opinion is her weakest work. Her Sekaiichi Hatsukoi was head and shoulders above JR, and one of my favorites. I'm quite fond of lost lovers finding themselves again. But the one story that grabbed me by the throat and made me cry rivers was Hybrid Child.

I first read this manga back when it came out fan-subbed, and it hurt a lot. I was expecting another rape/coercion story like her JR, but it was not. It was magical, fantastic and depressive. It made me putty and made me cry. I was devastated. So being the emotional masochist I am, when I discovered it got adapted? I was on it like bees to flowers!

First is that this story gained a lot by being animated. The colors, the camera pans, the OST, really enhanced these amazing short stories. It also helped me keep track of who is who, because this mangaka tends to make really similar dudes and I lose who is who. But it's not just this one, I suffer of that a lot. I need color to help me, and voice is a nice bonus to complement it.

Either way, the animators were true to the source and didn't deviate from the plot of the manga, and like I said: I honestly believe it enhanced the original. This adaptation has gorgeous transitions, I'm a sucker for really good transitions. Heck, one of the reasons I was so enchanted with Haikyuu! besides the cute boys, was the way it was directed.

This isn't as known as her other work, probably because it's short and short stories. But it is so worth it, if you haven't read or seen this yet, I advise you to get on it! Feelings and BL go along very well, and though I do wish it was racier, it has some nice kissing and handsome boys ~(^◇^)/

Bulan = 月
Tsukishima = 月島

This manga will always stick with me, mostly because this is the first manga that I've read in physical form!!! Thanks to a nice girl from one of my courses who asked me a week ago if I'm into Supernatural. It soon turned out that we share a lot of fandoms, plus a passion for yaoi mangas, hehe.

This volume contains 3 somewhat interrelated stories, and it must be mentioned that they are of different quality. The overall concept, however, is very interesting. I liked the first story: it was rather sweet. The second one would have been better if there was more characterisation - that's the drawback of short stories.

Oh, but the third story! What a beauty! It's even historical, and unlike most mangas I've read so far, it features three friends. Two of them have more feelings for each other, though, but they are unable to express them. And we all know something bad always has to happen in order for someone to realise what they would lose. My heart was aching, but that was nothing compared to what I went through during that scene everyone is talking about, the sakura branch offering scene. Crying. It was simple, yet so beautiful and heartwrenching. Bittersweet is the right word for it, especially in the light of that final "bonus".

I'm giving 5 stars for the final story, but the other two are around 3 stars, so overall it gets 4 stars from me.

Words cannot explain how much I love this manga. I had so many different emotions when reading this, and by the end of it, I had tears streaming down my face. The art isn't very good, but the story is fantastic. Shungiku Nakamura is the amazing author of other popular manga such as Junjou Romantica and Sekai ichi Hatsukoi, but this one is a lot different from those two.

This amazing manga is a historical fiction containing three different tales, all focusing around a different Hybrid Child, which is an amazing android that grows when loved by it's owner.

The first chapter/story is very heartwarming, and after reading it I knew that I would love what was to come.

The second chapter/story is, well... It isn't great. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either. It's something I had to read with a pinch of salt, and overall it was not as entertaining as the other chapters.

The last two chapters/final story is what really made me love this book so much. I won't go into to much detail, but let's just say I was bawling by the end of it. Though this book is so incredibly short, it felt like those last two chapters are something I won't be forgetting for a while.

So please check this manga out, I promise you won't regret it.

Synopsis : The Hybrid Child is an amazing 'doll' that can grow if it is lavished with enough love and care from its owner. Neither fully machine nor fully human, the various Hybrid Child models develop strong emotional bonds with their owners. This volume contains several short stories of love, sacrifice, and drama: Young Kotaro learns the importance of responsibility when his Hybrid Child's lifespan runs out. The tragic swordsman Seya learns to love again with the help of his Hybrid child, Yuzu. The final tale tells the story of Kuroda, the creator of the Hybrid Child designs, and how his lost love inspired their creation.

Comment : This was the 1st shounen-ai that made me crying hard when I read every chapter in it, especially the 3rd chapter, oh my God, it's so sad when Tsukishima decided to committed seppuku in the end... T_T

It's rare that something I read (manga, novels, nonfiction, etc.) makes me cry. I may get a lump in my throat or feel the pain the characters are experiencing, but to shed actual tears? Hybrid Child is an exquisite set of three interwoven stories that mainly feature a hybrid child, a sort of android that can grow and flourish depending on the amount of love his or her master or owner bestows. Each of the stories is filled to the brim with emotion that will either make you smile with joy or cry in bittersweet sorrow. It's hard to choose a favorite out of the three because they were all so beautifully written; each conveying a strong and thought-provoking message. I would HIGHLY recommend this manga to all BL/yaoi fans. It is truly a beautiful piece of work that is easily one of my new favorites.

This was proper cute!!! I could've read more!!!

This is a collection of stories all by the same author, from the same universe. In the universe, there's a thing called hybrid children, robots that grow older if you give it your emotions.

Each of these stories were amazing. They had their own vibe to them and, although they all had a sad moment, they are had their happy moments too.

For me though, the saddest one has to be Story 3. It just hits me in my heart and although it sorta has a hopefully ending, it's still the saddest story for me to read.

****I can't remember enough to give it a proper rating. I give things I can't remember well enough (but know I liked them back in the day) a middle score (2.5 rounded to 3) and then I will change it to reflect how I think about it upon a reread. If I ever reread it.****

This is probably June Yaoi Mangas most tame story. I am not sure how to keep track of the characters of each story. The stories are tremendous and the art is absolutely beautiful. I am glad I read it but I can’t say that it is my absolutely beautiful.
