My life has gone to hell. It seriously has. First I get into this situation with a guy I call The Brute (don’t ask), and every time I try and get away, he pulls me back in to our ‘relationship’. Yeah, I used air quotes around relationship. Whatevs.
Anyway, if that wasn't bad enough, James Trent has just turned up at my door. Now. After all these years. And he’s looking damn fine, too.
Not that I can think about him that way. Not with The Brute putting more and more demands on my time, and my body.
2 1/2 stars**Edited to add: When I read this book I had no clue that the book was supposed to have the "villain" (future hero in the next book) being so important in this book, when he was such a big part of this book I had a hard time separating him and remembering he wasn't the hero, and that threw me off when the hero came in the book. Now that I know that was the authors intention all along I am fixing my review (in stars).
When Angel looses her job and looks longingly at some treats she can't afford a handsome older man offers to buy her a dessert. Agreeing they end up meeting everyday and getting to know each other, when the brute offers to pay for her rent and living expenses Angel agrees. But soon he is changing and demanding more and more from Angel. When she decides to finally end things he has his own ideas and ways to keep her by his side. When and old friend shows up Angel finds herself wishing things could be different so that she and James could have a chance.
There was so much story spent on The Brute and Angel's story that the turn in the story surprised me. Reminds me of another story, Sweet On Me by Kathryn Michaels. I did like how Angel's story unfolded, a self discovery that just led her to the right guy.
