Stop. Leave me to my devices and go away. Just get off my back already, all right? You don't know me, don't know my situation. You don't know the town I live in, the people I live with, the friends I own. Don't hold me to your standards. Stop expecting the best from me. I've never been given the tools to be her.

So let me alone. Life's easy when nothing expects so little of you. Easy is what I crave. Easy is what I do best. Let the world weep. What good could I possibly do them anyhow? Follow my lead and close your eyes. It's effortless.

Stop asking about me. I'm okay with being no one, a nobody. I'm comfortable with this stagnant life. There's nothing I stand to lose. I've taken no risks.

Life can't be changed by simply doing nothing.

Can it?

I’m Lily Hahn and this is the story of how I went from a life of hollow nothing to a life of exhaustive agony and why I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

Fisher Amelie

Fisher Amelie resides in the South with her kick ace husband slash soul mate. She earned her first 'mama' patch in 2009. She also lives with her Weim, 'Jonah', and her Beta, 'Whale'. All these living creatures keep the belly of her life full, sometimes to the point of gluttony, but she doesn't mind all that much because life isn't worth living if it isn't entertaining, right?

Fisher grew up writing. She secretly hid notebooks and notebooks of dribble in a large Tupperware storage container in her closet as a kid. She didn't put two and two together until after college where it suddenly dawned on her, "Hey, I like writing". She's a bit dense. "No, I'm not." "Yes, you are. Put down that Oreo, your butt can't take any more." "You're rude." "Yeah, yeah." Anyway, she likes to write and has finally beaten her self-esteem into submission enough to allow herself to be scrutinized under the 'other readers' microscope. "No! No! Not a cover slip! Last time it gave me a ra...." (mumbling)

"I don’t think I’ll ever know carefree again, and it’s just what I deserve."

Surprisingly engaging and very angsty story! Lily was an incredibly resilient and likable heroine. Loved the unexpected twists and turns and the look inside the world of competitive chess!

Lily lived in a small town where the teenagers her age really didn't have much to do after high school except drink and get high. She lived a particularly horrible existence - her stepfather constantly beat her and she had no real hope for anything better. All she did was party, sleep late and hang out. She seemed to have lost the will to do anything with her life.

Salinger is the new boy in town and is quite mysterious, and admits he only stays in one place for a year at a time. But he has a job, attends school and surprisingly, is a competitive chess player. Lily really admires him but thinks he is way out of her league and is happy just to be friends with him.

“I want action.” He breathed deeply through his nose. “I’m tired of idle, tired of those who blow their smoke, tired of doubt. Get up,” he whispered. “You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to be the best at everything you do, don’t have to be flawless, but you do have to try. Just try. Even if trying yields you nothing, keep moving before you petrify, Lily.”

I love Fisher Amelie's writing style. It is gritty, unflinching and very real. These characters don't lead glamorous lives and are looking just to better themselves in some small way. The dialogue between the characters felt very authentic.

“Why are you friends with me?” he asked me. He’d volleyed it back, but there was something else there. His eyes begged me for something, but I didn’t know what. “Because you are here for me.”

After an absolutely horrific tragedy befalls Lily, she really gives up hope. I honestly did not know where the author was going with this story and I loved how she changed the tone of the book. This is a slow-burn story where time is spent building relationships and describing characters. I was thrilled when Lily finally got her act together took positive steps to lift herself out of the terrible situation she had fallen into.

And Salinger! LOVED him! What an amazing character. He and Lily made the perfect pair.

“It’s all an illusion, Lily. Did you know that?” “What is?” I asked. “Perfection. Nobody has it. The only good in perfection is the seeking of it. It’s in the seeking we find hope and love and light. It’s in the seeking we sacrifice for others, in the seeking we abandon selfish.” I stared at him. “Every person falls back, but not every person picks themselves up.” He looked at me. “Pick yourself up, Lily.”

If you are in the mood for an emotional, angst-y, very readable Young Adult story, then you will love 'Idle'. It has an unconventional story and memorable characters. This book is a complete standalone but I can't wait to see what the author has planned next in this series!

“I would do anything for you, Little.” I looked up. “Would you fetch that star right there?”

“Let me get my lasso.”

Excuse me while I fangirl over Fisher Amelie. When I didn't think I could love her more than I already did, I got to meet her at Book Bonanza and receive the best hug of all-time, then I came home and was able to dive into Idle, the fourth sin of The Seven Deadly Sins series. Let me tell you, this book was a breath of fresh air and earned an easy five stars! Fisher is able to write it all: humor, friendship, heartache, life lessons - you name it, she will make you feel it and leave you wanting more. Only a writer with a heart of gold herself would be able to create such a realistic and simultaneously heartwrenching and heartwarming read. Somehow this is only my second book of The Seven Deadly Sins series and I couldn't be more excited to catch up on Greed and Fury now!

Fisher's writing is full of substance, it makes readers dig deep and experience the characters' every action. My favorite thing about this book was that it wasn't so much a romance as it was a coming of age story about a girl finding her place in the world. Sure, there was a great love sprinkled in, but the main focus wasn't about a guy becoming a girl's whole world. The male lead, Salinger, was more of a guide to a better life than a love interest for most of the story, which made me adore it all the more. I couldn't get enough of the slow build of trust, loyalty, and friendship between the characters as Lily learned to navigate the life she ended up with, rather than the life she had planned. It endeared me to the characters more than I expected!

I loved the theme of this story, which made me think about how simple it is to become complacent in life. It's easy to stop growing and remain stagnant when life feels good enough. It's when monumental changes come along, whether we want them to or not, that we're forced to reevaluate and push out of our comfort zones once again. Through Lily's hardships, Fisher was able to show readers how these moments build stronger foundations and ultimately make us better people. I was also saddened as I read of a way of life for so many, those who believe they are stuck with a particular lifestyle, simply because it is all they have ever known. Many people don't have a Salinger to turn to, a person to push them out of their rut with bouts of tough love, a person to make them see their strengths when they feel their weakest. Having lived in small towns all of my life and being the wife of a high school teacher, I see this reality all too often. Children don't believe they can rise past the life they've always led, they are too scared to even try, and it is the most heartbreaking thing to behold. I think that's why this book was so incredibly special to me as a reader. It was refreshing to see someone rise above, if only in fiction because maybe it will give even just one reader the courage to push past their self-imposed limitations.

“I can tell your lack of respect for me is a product of the power women hold over you, so let me let you in on a secret, pawn. Humility. Humility and kindness. Try it on and the good ones will come your way, I promise.”

This story felt fresh and wasn't something I feel like I've read a million times. I was able to learn new things I didn't have a clue about before, like the world of Chess! My daughter just learned how to play the game while we were on vacation in Colorado, so this was a kind of cool and unexpected addition to the story! I enjoyed experiencing the tournaments and watching a girl being a player in a man's world.

As with all of Fisher's novels, they are pleasing to read because they are not inundated with sex, but still boast a connection between the characters. I would feel comfortable giving this book to my daughter as a teenager because it would allow her to grow as a person, simply from reading the story. Well done, Fisher, you have written my favorite type of story, a winner for all ages. May we all take a lesson from your pages!

If you haven't read Idle yet, I cannot recommend it enough!

”People are consistent, Lily. People favor patterns because it’s what they know. Your life can be changed by simply doing nothing.”

I think the more and more books that I read, the more I appreciate the slow build. The observing of relationships growing from friends to soulmates. The books that aren’t completely based around the romantic relationships that could blossom right out the gate. The book that focuses on so much more than someone loving the girl and someone loving the boy. Idle was perfect in that retrospect. Idle was so much more than a story about a boy and a girl and I absolutely loved that.

”Salinger was a very bright, beautiful light. I could admit it openly to myself, at least. I thought if I could admit it, maybe I could also live within those parameters.”

In my own personal opinion, Salinger made this whole book. He was gentle, patient, kind, and helpful in all the right ways that Lily needed him to be. The only thing that would have made this better, was MORE about him. I wanted more about what made Salinger well, Salinger. And sadly we don’t get a lot of that.

Fisher Amelie never fails to amaze me with her ability to write a fascinating story that teaches so many lessons. She also writes character growth unlike anyone I have ever read before. She doesn’t necessarily give them “redemption” but she always makes her characters work for their changes and Lily Hahn was no exception. Just watch.

Lily grew tremendously in all kinds of departments. She fought and clawed her way out of scenarios and situations that most people struggle eternally to climb out of. To me- that’s an amazing thing to witness. We get to watch Lily bloom every step of the way.

Idle was a story about growth, rebuilding, and finding out the person you can actually be if you work for it. I loved the slow burn with the quick paced story line that kept my pages turning. I’ve been waiting years for this book and IMO, Fisher didn’t let me down. But I knew she wouldn’t ;)

”What do you want?” I asked him.
“I want action.” He breathed deeply through his nose. “I’m tired of idle, tired of those who blow their smoke, tired of doubt. Get up.” He whispered. “You don’t have to be perfect. You don’t have to be the best at everything you do, don’t have to be flawless, but you do have to try. Just try. Even if trying yields you nothing, keep moving before you petrify, Lily.”

This book Idle is the fourth in the Seven Deadly series and It is just as amazing and wonderful as the others in this series. I have read all of Fisher Amelie books and this series is my favourite because she has a way of taking real life situations and really cool characters and weaving these amazing stories that feel real and will make you think about real world situations. I absolutely love Lily and feel like she truly is on her journey in this story from a troubled  teen to a woman of character and I was glad to be there every step of the way. Idle will make you laugh, cry and feel so much love and peace.

ALL THE FEELS!!!

I finished this book at work and sitting in the cafeteria, I was trying to hold myself together so I didn't fully break down in tears. Happy ones, to be clear.

I have been a fan of this series since Vain, which is one of my all-time favorites. I'll admit that while I liked books 2 and 3 (Greed and Fury), I didn't love them. This one is right up there with my love for Vain. Such an amazing story.

While this is book 4 of the series, it can be considered a standalone. So, no fear of spoilers. If you are new to this series, it is worth noting the theme of the Seven Deadly Sins. While the author doesn't come outright and say it, this book centers on the theme of SLOTH. Like the previous books in the series, the author introduces the main character who exhibits that sin. From the start, these main characters in each book are not likeable, the anti-hero/anti-heroine, if you will. Some may call it karma, but each goes thru a series of events that sends their world upside down, where they are almost forced to make changes or suffer worse consequences. And that was the case with this story as well.

One of my favorite parts of this story is the development and growth of the main character, Lily Hahn. She starts off as a character I wouldn't give much thought about, maybe some pity. But as the story evolved, she becomes a character worth rooting for.

My main issue with Lily at the beginning was her laziness and lack of apathy, which is tied to the sloth theme.

Apathy allows you to slake real responsibility toward those you share the human race with. It’s a cure-all. It’s the perfect alibi.

Although drug use was part of her life, I didn't think it defined her. It was more of a vice to dull her pain. And ultimately, it's a necessary part of the story as her drug use has far wider consequences than anyone could anticipate. Leaving her with a heavy dose of guilt and remorse.

“I’m weighted down by life, by responsibility, and I have a genuine fear I’m not capable of handling the load.”

This story could have gone downhill from there. But as Lily's life deteriorates, she has a good set of friends to lean on, with one particularly that stood out. Salinger comes into Lily's life before the shit hits the fan, and they strike up a casual friendship. As Lily's life begins to spiral out of control, Salinger is with her every step of the way to help pick up the pieces. He offers his time and money, to turn things around for her, but more importantly, he is her biggest cheerleader, encouraging her to take her chess skills to competition.

“Pasts cannot be fixed. Ever. They are permanent, but you get to choose how they alter the future. Take whatever is affecting you, Lily, and make something with it. Make something you can be proud of.”

I loved the incorporation of these chess tournaments into the story, and how they help Lily gain confidence in herself for the first time in her life. And that confidence provides useful outside of the competitions. While heartbreaking at times, Lily shows a lot of maturity with respect to her sisters. I know she still harbored guilt, but how she steps up and makes them her priority is something I truly admired about her.

As another reviewer pointed out, this is more of a coming of age story, than a romance. There is an undercurrent of something special between Lily and Salinger throughout, but their romance would be classified as a slow burn. With that said, I think this story has so many themes similar to romance (redemption, second chances, person sacrifice for others) that it would appeal to any fan of that genre despite the lack of heat.

Nobody helps others for no reason anymore. I like you. More than I should. More than I deserve.

Never in a million years would I have expected a story about a chess playing former sloth, to captivate me. With every page I grew closer the heroine, making me wish the story wouldn't end. But on that last page, I wiped my tears and took to social media to express my love for this story.

This is now one of my favorite books of 2018, and an obvious recommend.

It was good. Really good. I thought before I started that I'd hate Lily. Well, I kind of did until 30% in? After that, she tried picking herself up with the help of Salinger (what kind of name is that? Lol). But not really. I mean she didn't really picked herself up yet. Mostly she did things for her sisters. Not for herself.

It was a great read.

“Every person falls back, but not every person picks themselves up.” He looked at me. “Pick yourself up, Lily.”

Another wonderful story. I love that I have a "go to" author - one that I know I can read her stories an absolutely fall in love. I love that Lily wasn't easy to like, not at first She IS idle in her life and I love that this author always does such a great job of showing us the 'sins' in easy, updated, real world situations. I thought Salinger was a little too squeaky clean and wonderful but that's okay....I thoroughly enjoyed the story!

And I love that she gives us a playlist at the end!

I think anyone who is a fan of Fisher has been not so patiently waiting for this book for what seems like forever. This series is one of my favorites ever. Her spin on the deadly sins engulfs you without you even realizing it. The way she takes these sins and makes them a reality that we can all relate to is pure magic.

I have to admit this book was and will probably remain the one I was most worried about because in reality this is the one sin we are all truly guilty of at some point in our lives. It's probably the deadliest of them all but as this book proves it can be overcome. But not without taking a hard long look at what we truly want out of life and taking the steps to make that happen.

Lily may easily go down as one of my favorite heroines ever. Her growth throughout this book is downright remarkable in the face of what she must overcome. Her life is far from easy but once she realizes she wants and actually deserves better the book becomes something else entirely. And I mean that in the best possible way.

I don't think there are enough words in this world to even describe Salinger. He was the rock of this book. From the first time Lily met him you just knew that he would in some way make her life better and I don't mean just in a romantic way. He was just THAT guy. The relationship built between Lily and Salinger from the beginning was one that will remain timeless. One that we all strive for and one that few of us get.

If we could get more of these two I don't think I would cry about it. There just seemed to be one thing missing for me with Salinger. It's like there was just a bit held back about him. Like he wanted to say reveal something about his past but it always seemed to be brushed under the rug or just shrugged off because something else came up.

All in all, another hit by Fisher and one book I believe I will pick up again. The story line was refreshing and a bit different but also so important. I can't wait to see what sin we get next.

Oh, I can't. I remember loving the first few books of this series and I will keep them that way in my memory and call this book a fluke.
Already 8% in, I don't connect with the main character (who's name I can't recall, she was that bland). Lots of telling, "I did this, I then did that" as the sentence structure was like a drum beat. Very plodding. The woes of the MCs life are nail on the head, flick to the nose obvious which again, was all tell, no feeling.
Basically I can't finish it, I can barely start it...

Not bad, not great

I've loved all of fisher amelie's books, vain and Callum and Harper were amazing, I just felt like this was a weird dialogue, it was awkward a hell of a lot of the time, and that timeline was crazy unrealistic.. overall not great but not awful, read it in one night.

I have enjoyed each thought provoking and emotional book in this series. This one is no exception. The blurb is vague so I will be as spoiler free as possible.

This one shows the consequences of idleness and apathy. How not doing anything can be as damaging as doing something wrong. How it can rob you of purpose, happiness, self worth, and connections.

Lily Hahn is a young woman whose life already seems bad due to circumstances. She is lost, uninterested, avoiding, and coping in poor ways. Salinger Park seems way out of her league. He is serious, smart, hardworking, honest, selfless, generous, and a gentleman. When their worlds collided, they did not realize that they had the potential to became an integral part of the other's life.

But sometimes life can continue throwing hard lessons and challenges at you. And this unlikely pair begins to take on new things together. They push, challenge, and support the other. And even though they talk, there is a lot they are afraid to share and show their true vulnerability leading to confusion, hurt feelings, and some angst.

This is a YA book with good messages. Some of the subject matter is hard, raw, and painful, but it is inspiring and hopeful too. There is friendship and slow-burn romance, but it is also about self actualization, acceptance, priorities, and redemption. They were two people desperately in need of a connection and a true home. But their lives were complicated and had many challenges.

There were some twists and surprises, and Lily truly had so much to face and was really put to the test. I really liked Salinger and he was a good guy, but even good guys can make mistakes. Even though we did get some chapters in his point of view, I would have liked to have delved even deeper to understand him a bit more.

I love that each of these books in this series are so different, push boundaries, and have complex, flawed characters that go on journeys of self discovery while also forging a connection. The emotions are raw and circumstances are usually difficult to overcome. But they all illustrate that life can be unpredictable and beautiful and painful and enlightening all at the same time. And feeling it is what makes us truly feel alive.

I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This one was different from the other three books and I liked it!

I can relate to the heroine a lot, since idle or sloth (or however) is my personal deadly sin, I guess...

Lily had to grow a lot through the book and she managed. mostly due to Salingers support (and seriously, why do all love interest in this series have weird ass names??)
I liked their relationship, even tho they frustrated me with being so oblivious and dumb when it comes to the other persons feelings.
but i understood that the main focus in this book was in Lilys growth. not that the other three books weren't about the mains growth but in IDLE it was very prominent, which is why it was different than the others.

but yeah, my guess is that Lyric or any other guy from the tournaments will be the next main.

A touching story of a girl whose potential is harnessed by a guy who cares enough

Like other Amelie Fisher books, this one sucks you in. Lily is a girl whose circumstances mean she cannot and is unwilling to help herself. When time came for her to step up, Salinger was there. His gentleness and kindness never crossed the line to be overbearing, and he simply provided Lily with opportunities by which she could discover her potential. He never demanded or hindered. I was not really sure what Lily added to Salinger's life but you slowly see, through her concern and love for her sisters, that her kindness matches Salinger's, and you are awed by her intelligence and humility from her aptitude at chess.

The only criticism is a mild one: The love storyline perhaps moved a little fast? It was rather unconvincing that they fell in love that quickly. Maybe it is because we did not get enough insight into their conversations. It was also not very clear why Salinger loved Lily i.e. what aspects of her character.

4.5 STARS* only because I felt the ending was rushed. Otherwise, this was probably my favorite book of the series right after Vain!

Lily's character development was 10/10 and Salinger was so likeable. I loved the storyline and couldn't stop turning the pages.

Fisher Amelie writes these powerful, beautiful discourses on the human condition and with every one I feel another part of my heart and soul change, making me a more complete and compassionate person. Idle is, on the surface, a slow-burn romance, but in reality, it is so much more an account of a person realizing their full potential and striving to reach it.

IDLE worked up very slowly, but it was vital to Lily’s story. She’d been served nothing but disappointment and raw hostility, was never asked to be more than status quo. The care with which Salinger helped to guide her out from the expectations she’d been living down to was exactly what she needed. She wasn’t ready to see herself for what she was truly worth until she’d shed the skin of worthlessness she’d forced herself into years ago.

IDLE was equal parts devastating and healing. It was a microcosm of the human condition and showed, with stunning clarity, what can happen to a person when they live with total apathy as well as the soaring heights a human can achieve if they pull themselves out of that pit of despair and choose to strive for a goal. IDLE was shocking in the contrast it shined on the differences between people who believe they are stuck in a cycle thrust upon them by birth and those who know with a little effort there is more to life than a person could ever imagine, and how that mindset informs every second of their lives.

While this book was, by all accounts nearly perfect as is, I wish we would have got more chapters in Salinger’s head. We got to know little bits about him – surface details – but he seemed to be such a complex guy and, other than protecting Lily from herself, I’m not sure I know what motivated him, what his passion and drive were. I loved him, so much, he was exactly what Lily needed at precisely the right moment of her life, and getting to know him better, beyond his compassionate exterior, would have made IDLE perfection. There was also a little bit of a continuity issue with whether or not Salinger drank alcohol. Several times characters, including Salinger, state that he doesn’t drink and a reason is given, but there is one scene where Lily offers him a beer that he ostensibly left in her fridge.

Fisher Amelie has long impressed me with her words. She has this subtle, yet powerful ability to shed light on all the things we as humans try to shove into the darkest corner of the closet. She does it in such a beautiful way that there is no choice but to dig those atrocities out, examine them, and then commit to never letting those things go unchecked in your corner of the world. Her writing, when read with an open heart, has the ability to make the world more aware, one person at a time.

“Would you love me when I couldn’t love myself?”

“Would you hold my hand when I was lost?”
“I would again.”
“Would you kiss me?”
“I thought you’d never ask.”

ASFJKLGJSHSKFJSKFHKD!!!!!!!!! I freaking melted. I'm drowning. I can't breathe. Holy shit. HOLY SHIT!!!!! THIS BOOK IS EVERYTHING. I lost count of how many times I bawled and ugly-cried over this one. Fucking heartbreaking and hopeful. I was hooked from the very beginning. I fell so hard. I've always felt a deep love and connection to Fisher Amelie's Vain (and still one of my all-time favorites), but Idle is so special in its own way and I love it too.

Lily Hahn and Salinger Park are so incredible. I wish I was half as strong as they are. Lily is worth rooting for. She's far from perfect and I love that she's proud to acknowledge that. Because that's okay. We're all kinds of fucked up. We fail sometimes. I feel for Lily so much and while I couldn't imagine the awful things she's been through, I could totally relate to her in most ways. Her every thought spoke to me and reached inside my soul. She made mistakes but in the end she still knows her worth and she fights for it. Can I also take a moment to appreciate Salinger? Man. Must be nice to have someone so amazing believe in you. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Wow. JUST WOW. I know I always, ALWAYS write messy reviews, but really who's to blame? The authors, that's who!!!! Such brilliant minds. Yeah and you Fisher Amelie you're a real piece of— *screams*

I managed to do enough surveys to get a gift card for my Nook and immediately bought Idle. Thankfully I enjoyed it more then Fury.

Lily feels like she has no future except to do drugs, party with her friends, and hide from her abuse step father. Idle in her ways no had better tell her to better herself that is until a series of unexpected events leads her to rethinking her situation.

Like all the previous books Lily was a character with wonderful development. The reader really gets inside her head as she struggles with life and learning how to be an adult in some regards. While a serious story it also has light hearted moments and despite Lily suffering from sloth she is a likeable character.

The writing was smooth and easy to read. A couple parts were told from a side characters point of view but I felt like it enhanced the story. I felt a whole range of emotions for Lily so that is one way I judge on how well a character is written. It did take me a bit to get into the story since I got bored just reading about how all Lily wanted to do was drugs, drink, and party. I am glad I stuck with it though.

Does anyone know anything about Lust? Any rumors on when it may be released?

This is not a romance novel nor a love story. Whatever bits of romance there is in this book, its scattered by bits in the second half.

Surprisingly, that did not bother me at all.

This book is about pain and how a girl did her best to avoid it by doing nothing. And then, how she changed from doing nothing to avoid pain to doing everything while embracing pain.

This novel is very angsty but not in a burst-in-tears kind of way. Its a slow burn angst. It makes you think all about the pain on the surface and then slowly slips into your consciousness.

The best part of the novel is Salinger's dialogues. They r beautiful and so deep but somehow they just feel like dont fit into the narration of the novel. Even so, i loved it.

I loved Lily's drive to change from drug addict girl with a bleak life to a responsible sister with so many possibilities. It was dazzling.

Despite the fact that Salinger is the biggest support for Lily, I hated that I knew nothing about him. His character seems so one dimensional. I wanted to know him so much but I got nothing from the novel.

This book had so much potential to be so much more..

I had a hard time rating this one but I will start with the good.

First of all it was really entertaining. Give this book to 16 year old Lara and she would have died. I am usually a bicker and banter sizzle chemistry kind of gal but even I had to admit the male love interest in this book is a good guy by actions and not only by words. He really is a breath of fresh air compared to a lot of asshole or fake nice guys we have out there is YA contemp.

So I really wish I read this sooner, because now I have become too critical and picky about what I like. The protagonist was supposed to be an unlikable character that redeems herself. She was just a mopey mess using excuses for her wrongdooings and crying for the guy to save her. The horrible things that happened to her felt like a cheep way to show character growth and it all felt a bit ehh to be eventhough I wasn't very disturbed by it.

Last thing: ditch the "I curled my hair and put on light makeup to highlight my features, I am so ugly but I still have every guy running after me" trope. over. used. Its been done 1000 times before, please leave it in Wattpad thank you.

+1 star for the love interest
+1 star for the slow burn

In general, I'm not a fan of YA or even NA much, but I'll make an exception for this author. Her writing is amazing. There are lessons to be learned in each of her books, for people of any age.
Idle was another great book. Lily was portrayed so well, you felt her pain, her apathy, her disappointment, her excitment and finally her hope. I have absolutely no interest at all in chess, yet I was excited and nervous as she played.

Another thing I liked, not only about this book, but about all of the books in this series, is that while they might be very angsty, there's never a point where I've thought it was too much. Everything made sense and the timing of it as well as the "fixing" of things is perfect and easy to believe.

Although the plot was somewhat predictable and too convenient at times, it is not a romantic cliché. This is the reason for 3 stars. I read this in one go and I found myself wanting lily to make good life changes for once. Even though it doesn't seem realistic, one would wish that their step dad died so they get a start over. She could have gone deep into drugs but chose not to. This is not what druggies do in real life. Parents death actually causes them to OD instead of getting their life perfectly in order. She also ends up super rich bcz of a hidden talent. 😂 The more I write, idk if it deserves 3 stars anymore

As always Fisher's books left me enraptured with a story that will make you ask yourself questions as to whether you too have traversed this road or not even for once in your life.
Lily is the protagonist who has been referred to as 'IDLE' here in this story because she refuse to act on her life and make it better.
Sallinger is that man who has refused to remain 'IDLE' and rather work hard to make his life better.
So, what happens when they both meet?
Do they despise each other and let go?
Or do they help each other up?
You've to read to find out.
