Alan Green and Samantha Cohn have known each other for as long as both can remember. They have a special relationship that has grown far beyond mere friendship.
Inseparable, Al and Sam have spent their lives with one another—from childhood secrets, through awkward teenage years, to finding themselves as adults—it’s always been the two of them together.
When unexpected tragedy hits, and Sam is left fighting for her life, Alan can only watch and wait. Left alone without his best friend, Alan spends his time reliving his past, ensnared in the memories of the chaotic relationship with the girl that stole his heart.
I like to write and love just about anything romance [Except triangles, I hate triangles.... Oh! And Squares! They're the worst].
Anyway, I live with my wife and two kids in good ole U.S.of A. and I actually work full time as a Graphic Designer. I write to relieve stress and because I like to create stories.
The Time Until is my first book and it's both a joy and a chore to write.
This book was a nice change of pace. This is the story of Samantha (Sam) and Alan. It's sad, tragic, heartwarming. This isnt some happy go lucky all is well story. These two had a hell of a rough road to their ending.
"My name's Sam and from now on you're mine"
The book starts out present day with Sam and Alan driving. They are in a horrible car accident. The last words Sam says are "You know, Al, I'm so happy right now I could die with no regrets". You don't get the magnitude of that and what it means from Sam until the end.
There are MAJOR injuries to both of them. Life changing. Alan has a faster recovery but Sam is in a coma. That's the least of her injuries.
The book flashes between past and present as Alan recounts their history which led to the strongest, deepest forever love. As he struggles with the possibility of losing her forever..
Their story starts at the age of 5, his first day of Kindergarten, when Sam claims Alan to get him to stop crying, then calls him a pansy. That was the start of a beautiful friendship.
The book is in Alans pov, so we know he fell in love with Sam at a very early age. They were the best of friends. You know what happens when girls/boys hit puberty..noticing your best friend. These two struggled with the growing feelings that went from friendship type to actual love. Sam more ran and hid from it, Al embraced it.
There was a rift in the relationship that led them to other people. Alan dated Kate, who was a nice girl caught in the cross hairs of two people in love. During this flashback you see how hurt and confused he was when all he wanted was Sam. Kate comes back into the story after the accident.
Alan was a huge romantic. When you read the parts that take part in December in "their park" you will see how deep his love ran. It will also bring you full circle into that night of the accident.
Sam makes it but her injuries are not easy. However, Sam was known for making the best of any situation and she doesn't let it destroy her. WWSD (what would sam do) was what kept Alan going while waiting to see if Sam would wake up. How do you go on without your other half? 15 years of being each others everything.
These two FOUGHT for their life individually and together. I loved these two. You get a sense of being emotionally invested in Sam and Alan and all they stand for. Loved the prologue.
Alright. Now I can finally put my review up of The Time Until. This story is heartwarming, hot, sad, happy, and takes you on a clever roller coaster of emotions you won't regret embarking on.
I had the honor of beta-reading this story for Casey, and as a writer I have a hard time losing myself in a book. The reason is that I'm always conscious of writing techniques, errors, flow in the story, and other details of our else-wise magical trade.
The Time Until surprised me by instantly pulling me in, and I can't get over how refreshing it is to read a genuine male point of view in a contemporary romance. There are plenty of male romance writers out there, but not all hit the mark on the passion side in a way that convinces me as a female reader. Casey Ford accomplishes this feat in spades! I recommend The Time Until with all my heart. It is a must-read for all YA/NA romance lovers.
I was lucky enough to beta read The Time Until, and I fell in love with this book and its characters, and I’m so glad that it is finally released so that everyone else can read this amazing book. Alan Green and Samantha Cohn's story will without a doubt takes you on an emotional rollercoaster; it is going to make you cry. So please have lots tissue ready. ☺
So I’m going to be selfish here, and not give you any more details about the storyline, as you know what they say, “less is more” so the less I tell you about the storyline the more I hope you are going to want to read it.
What I will tell you is that it is intense, gripping, but also passionate and romantic. It played on all my emotions. I laugh, I cried lots both happy and ugly tears, I got angry and frustrated. It is told in such that it sucks you in from the very beginning. The first chapter had me on the edge of my seat chewing my fingernails as I got that anxious feeling that something was going to happen.
The whole story is told from Alan’s point of view, and I loved it and him. I was able to get into his head, and connect with his emotions, when he cried, got cross, was frustrated and laugh so did I. I was left with no doubt about what Sam means to him, and how deep his feelings are for her. Sam is his first love, his true love, and his soul mate. During Alan’s POV, I also got to know Sam, her character, and fell in love with her too.
The story jumps between the past and present; this works and flows really well, was not confusing at all, and made perfect sense to do it this way. The past allowed me to witness how Alan and Sam friendship, relationship started, their childhood, their teenage years, and the ups and downs they go through as they figure out not only themselves, but also their feelings for each other. The present allowed me to go through what Alan is going through as he watch and waits for Sam, his own pain, his pain for Sam, and his heartache, nothing is sugar coated.
They are so many great secondary characters that really added to the story such as Alan and Sam’s parents, Alan’s brother James, Ethan, Quentin, Arianna and even Kate whom I didn’t like at first, but I did by the end.
This story is no way predictable Casey kept me guessing right up till the end, and like at the start of the book I found myself edge of my seat chewing my fingernails. When the end did come I wasn’t disappointed. I just love it and the epilogue, it ties everything up, and I was left with no questions just with a big smile on my face. A wonderful ending to an incredible story.
Overall did I enjoy this book, yes I did! I loved it. Casey Ford debut novel is impressive, he did an amazing job capturing emotions, and pulling hard on my heartstrings. This book was simply a wonderful moving beautiful written love story that was both heart warming and heart breaking.
I highly recommend this book, so pleased don’t wait go 1-click it today. I know you won’t be disappointed. Oh! And if you think that you haven’t cried enough after reading The Time Until then just listen to the song that Casey picked to go with this novel Christain Perri ‘s song A thousand years (The piano/ cello Guys cover) its just perfect song, and will have you reaching for the tissues again.
5 stars
Some of my favorite Alan Quotes (I had more, but again it would have given you spoilers)
"My heart once again goes to her and she owns it completely. It beats when she tells it to, stops when she leaves. It breaks at her word, and her touch repairs it. Her warmth sustains me and her smile gives me wings. Sam has me, body and soul. She has always helps heart, now she owns it. Forever"
“I do love you Sam. If you hear nothing else while in your dream world hear this: I love you"
“Everyone will get equal shares of Alan stock”
" The best feeling in the world is to be kissed by the one you love"
What can I say? This story is an emotional rollercoaster that broke the Ice Queen! Yes you heard correctly. It.Made.Me.Cry. okay, there, I said it.
I agreed to read this book, because I read the blurb and was intrigued. The blurb itself outlines the story without giving away the main points so this is not something I am going to do.
What I will do is tell you how beautifully written and DEEP this story is. You get to know the main characters Alan and Sam. Casey paints the picture of their friendship starting when they were just 5 years old and progress up to the present day. It does alternate from past to present and once you settle into the style, it flows beautifully. I enjoyed their journey even if it was full of angst and heartbreak. It felt real, it could be real. They acted and reacted like real people would in the situations they found themselves in and I think this is what cracked me eventually. The fact that this could actually happen to anyone. My heart ached for everything Alan went through, he struggled with the fact that he might not get to live the life he had planned with the woman he loves. And right up until the very end I couldn't call it. I had no idea the way it was going to go and that was just one this I loved about this book. I couldn't predict it. It was unexpected in every way.
Don't think that it was all drama and sadness. Casey sure put some really super hot moments in there too. Their first kiss, Oh man!
And humour, plenty of humour. I really, really liked Sam's attitude. She is the kinda girl I would get on with. She is loyal, honest and just a perfect fit for Alan. They knew every inch of each other, body and mind and it just re-enforces my belief that everyone has a soul mate. The strength and depth of their love proves that anything is possible when you believe in LOVE!
'My heart once again goes to her and she owns it completely. It beats when she tells it to, stops when she leaves. It breaks at her word and her touch repairs it. Her warmth sustains me and her smile gives me wings. She has me, body and soul. She has always held my heart, now she owns it.'
Written in the Male POV, it is uniquely refreshing and just what I was after. It not only lived up to my expectations but exceeded them. It's deep, emotional and his style is different from anything else I have read. I can't wait to see what Casey writes next.
Alan is a completely normal guy, but what makes him such a compelling Hero is the strength of his love for Samantha. They've known each other for most of their lives and have merged the lines of friendship and romance. And that's always a great storyline.
After a tragic accident leaves Sam in a coma, we follow their story in a series of flashbacks from Alan's POV. From the first day of kindergarten to angst-filled teenager life and onto college. We join Alan as he relives the most vital moments in his life. First friendship, first love, first loss. And the hope he hangs on to as he watches Sam lay helplessly in a hospital bed.
This is an emotional read that will have you laughing one moment and crying hysterically the next, and it is oh, so worth it!
I had the privilage to watch this book grow from a script idea into a full length novel. It was awesome of Casey to allow me to tag along on his journey and I'm so glad I did!
****ARC received in exchange for an honest review****
I have raved about this book for months and now it’s finally time for you to see what all the fuss is about. The Time Until by Casey Ford is a book that had me gripped from the very first page and had a death grip on my heart until the end. One of the most emotional books I’ve ever read and a firm favourite, not just of 2013, but of all time.
When Casey asked me to beta read for him after a mutual author friend put my name forward (Thank you, Cheryl!) I obviously jumped at the chance, and you have no idea how glad I am that I didn’t miss out on the opportunity to read this book because it is just incredible!
As the synopsis says, after a tragic accident, Sam is left fighting for her life. I was literally on the the edge of my seat the entire book over this. I was so desperate to find out if she would survive, my stomach was going crazy with nerves. But Casey keeps you holding on until the end before you find out by passing the time with Alan thinking back on the life he shared with his best friend.
The story was kept fresh by the constant back and forth of memories past, and the present heartache of not knowing if he was about to lose the girl he’s loved his whole life, all while having to come to terms with how his own life has changed. I absolutely loved seeing parts of Alan and Sam’s childhood. Watching their friendship start, a bond form, and grow into something that some people can only wish for. It was truly beautiful and the perfect light relief from what was happening in the rest of the book. And holy hotness Casey! He sure knows how to write the sexy stuff!
Though the majority of the book was highly emotional, it was absolutely nothing compared to the end. I was a wreck. Plain and simple. As we get closer and closer to finding out if Sam will pull through, we also get closer to finding out about a huge part of Sam and Alan’s relationship. I was non stop crying. Full on, ugly crying! Happy tears, sad tears, happy tears, sad tears, happy tears . . . I think you get my point. I was in bits. My heart didn’t know whether to break or burst with joy.
If you don’t buy this book and read it straight away then trust me, you will be more than kicking yourself when you finally see what you’ve been missing. A book like The Time Until by Casey Ford doesn’t come about all that often. It was beautiful, heartbreaking, breathtaking, moving, and incredibly emotional. A book that will stay with you for a lifetime. Definitely worthy of 5+ stars.
I was provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Heart-stopping. Genius. Breathtaking.
Is this really a debut? I find that hard to believe, as I was so engrossed in the story from beginning to end. Real life pretty much took a back seat as I read this book. Alan Green and Samantha Cohn have known each other since the age of five. They have been inseparable ever since. As adults, a horrible tragedy occurs that rocks them to their core. As Al waits to find out Sam’s fate, he relives all of their special moments. All the moments that make them Al and Sam.
“But if falling in love is anything like what’s happening to me right now, I’d gladly spend my whole life figuring it out”
This book took my breath away, literally. As Al holds on to hope and faith, he is completely lost without his best friend, Sam. How do you wait for the unknown? Al spends his time thinking back to when he met Sam when they were children. We watch them grow as individuals, but most importantly, we watch them grow in love. I enjoyed the transitioning between past and present as it gave the story depth and brought true understanding to the love shared between Al and Sam.
The writing? Flawless. I cried throughout this book. I’m not talking about tearing up. I mean full on sobbing, wiping my face, can’t see my kindle crying. I cried because the words were beautiful. I cried because the love between Al and Sam, I’ve never really experienced while reading. I love romance. Hence why I read so much. But this story? It’s on a whole different level. These characters are so deeply connected to each other that you can’t help but be emotional. This brings out all the FEELS. Al and Sam have been through everything together. From triumph to tragedy, they see each other through everything.
This author is going on my ‘buy anything he writes’ shelf. Finally a well-written romance about one of the most beautiful love stories I’ve ever read. We get a male POV romance from a male. So refreshing! There are good romance books, and there are romance books that words cannot do justice. This is definitely one of those. I don’t think my or any review can truly describe how beautiful this love story was. I recommend this book to anyone that truly loves the heart of romance.
Not knowing the ending, I think was the hardest part. I knew that no matter what happened, I would be in tears. I was right. By not giving away the ending, it will make other readers appreciate the story more. To me, in all of tragedy, there is light. This book attests to that. Love triumphs all things. Love endures.
The Time Until is a story about friendship loss and most of all Love.
I knew going into this that it was going to be a heart wrenching read but I totally underestimated myself in the ability not to to sob my heart out.
The story of Alan and Sam is one that will stay with me for a long time. The two of them have been best friends since they were 5 years old, when tragedy strikes we get an in site to their friendship over the last 15 years. This is told solely from Alan's POV and to say that he adores Sam would be putting it mildly.
I recommend this to anyone who fancies a great tear jerking read.
Thanks Twinnie AB for holding my hand it's always a pleasure.x
Friends to lovers with flashbacks from past to present. You get to see their friendship blossom in the past and the current turmoil in their present. Beautifully written and emotional this was a fab read. (full review to come)
This was so amazing! I didn't want it to end. I loved that it was written from a male's perspective. It was so emotional and well written with alternating between the present tense and the past. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ONE.
This book was a remarkable book. I absolutely love and adored it. If you are looking for a good book to read, one that will bring you to tears and fill your heart with all the hope in the world by the end of it then this is the book for you. It’s a memorable book that will share a place in my heart. As soon as this book begins I was thrown into an emotional rollercoaster. It left me absolutely speechless and heartbroken. I was bawling my eyes out. It definitely tugged at every string on my heart from the very beginning to the main ending.
Sam is a sweet and kind girl. I absolutely adored her in this book. She was always there for Alan and cared so much about him. She was without a doubt the strongest girl EVER. Not to mention she’s vibrant and spunky. She went through so much heartache as a child and growing up, but always got through it. It helped that Alan was always by her side and never for a second wanted to leave her. Their friendship through this story and the love they eventually have for one another is one of the most memorable love stories out there.
Alan is absolutely remarkable. I loved his character. He was strong, kind, loving and one of the most charming guys. I loved him completely in this book. I felt so horrible for him to experience what he did and to wake up to his world flipped completely upside down. My heart broke for him a lot in this book and I couldn’t help but hold out hope that everything would work itself out in time. The poor guy endures a lot in the book and every time you will find your heart break all over again. I don’t think I stopped crying while reading this book. When Al finally gets to see the love of his life at the hospital I broke down again. It was awful and I just wanted to somehow comfort him if I could. You can’t help but want to reach out to him somehow.
Both Al and Sam have remarkable friends in this book. They are all wonderful and loving and look out for their friends. I loved how they had such a support system. It made all of the heartache easier to deal with.
I want give away the ending because again this is one of those books you need to experience to get the full effect it will have on your heart and your soul. It’s one of the most heartfelt and amazing books you will ever have the chance to read. So make sure you check it out because as much as I cried through the book by the end of it all my hope is restored and I am in awe at the strength of Alan and Sam.
“Well I’ve been trying to find the words to say That I’ll be lost without you Coz you’re the only one that gets me And you’re the only one that keeps me safe When I’m far from sleep and lonely You’re the only one that holds me When I’m out there chasing my dreams And I’ve got you by my side I can put this world behind me Coz you’re the only one that I need tonight”

How can you live your life when you know the only reason you exist is because of her...
One of the best book that I've read this year, it will capture your heart and it will drag you to their world and feel the overflowing emotions behind Al's struggle about life and the love of his life. The Time Until is a story about friendship that blooms into something deeper between Al and Sam, and when tragedy hits them, everything changes...
I cried a lot cause I'm very touched and moved of this story. I can't seem to stop crying while reading it and I advise to those who will start reading this book to put a box of tissue near you. I actually finished it in just one day, I'm very consumed in their story, you will be addicted to it, you wanna know what happens next to them. I really really really love it.
I love this book cause it is very realistic, amazing story line, very brilliant. I love Al and Sam's determination, the undying love between them, the struggles, the heartache, and the bond that ties them together. I highly recommended this book.
Congratulation on your 1st book and hope to read more from your works. Cheers *(^o^)*
Once in a while a book comes along and, no matter how hard you try, there really are no words to describe how you feel about it except to say," it's beyond words". I can only remember using that phrase TWICE since I embarked on my reading frenzy 18 months ago and now I'm about to use them again.
The Time Until is, quite simply put, BEYOND WORDS. I honestly can't describe how moving & touching the story of Alan & Sam is, without spoilers anyway. My emotions have been put through the wringer, I've cried tears of happiness and sadness, sighed at the heart melting scenes and shouted in shock and frustration when events took turns I didn't like and LOVED every minute of it!
As I was reading I imagined it being played out on the big screen. Imagine my surprise when I find out the story originally started life as a short screen play!
The Time Until is told from Alan's POV between present day and flashbacks to the couple's childhood, spanning 15 years from the day they first met at kindergarten, aged 5. From that first day, Sam laid claim to Al telling him "My name's Sam and from now on you're mine." I loved Sam and her no-nonsense approach to life from such an early age and I totally adored Al with his sweet and endearing romantic gestures.
I've hit the delete button so many times trying to come up with a review that's fitting and will do justice to Casey Ford's truly wonderfully sweet and moving tale of true love shining through even the darkest and tragic of times.
Nothing I write seems to be enough to express how I feel about this book so I'm just going to shut up and say PLEASE read it, I'm sure you will love it as much as I did. Make sure you stock up on tissues though as this is a real tearjerker. Al and Sam pulled at my heart strings so much that I'm still thinking about them.
The Time Until is Casey Ford's debut novel and I have a feeling we haven't heard the last from him.
These two met at the tender age of 5 where Sam has decided that Alan is hers. She calls him a pansy and tells him to toughen up because boys aren't supposed to cry etc. So he does as Sam says. The two develop a friendship that is stronger than anyone thought possible.
As the two get older their parents start to think that they spend too much time together and try to cut their time together. Unfortunately Sam has different ideas and in turn causes the kids to get hurt. But their parents realize they shouldn't have tried to keep them apart. They are best friends.
Growing up they are closer and closer, able to know what the other is thinking. People at school know them as all but one, even though they are two and are not related at all. When Alan realizes his feelings for his best friend change he's not sure how she's going to take it. So he keeps things to himself.
As they get older they share their first kiss and wow talk about fireworks. Sadly though things don't always work out as planned.
When Sam has a boyfriend, Alan gets a girlfriend. He tries to move on and put Sam behind him but can you do that when the one you love is your best friend? They go through tough times but when things are meant to be will it be enough?
Sam and Alan love each other and no one's denying that but when tragedy strikes can they pick up the pieces and more forward?
This story is in Alan's POV and explains how he got to the current day based on everything that's happened in the past. Now as he struggles with himself and with the situation he's in can he make it out and be the person Sam always knew he was?
This was such a touching and beautiful story. Definitely a must read!
What a truly lovely story of friendship & love. Alan & Sam met when they were 5. They held each other's hand through all the trials & tribulations of what growing up had to offer. Then bang!!! Their lives fell apart. While reading this I kept thinking of the outcome. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it was gonna be this ending!! As much as I loved all this book I was biting my nails at about 80%... Read it. You won't be disappointed. Received in return for honest review.
Wow,this book is seriously amazing!! I loved all the feelings and emotion that came through especially being from the male point of view. The book pulled you in from the very first page and had you holding your breath until the very end. I'm still trying to breathe. It truly is a heartwarming story. I loved it!!!
The Time Until by Casey Ford is one of those rare books that stays with you long after you turn the final page. I went into it expecting a sweet friendship-to-something-more kind of story, but what I got was so much deeper, rawer, and emotionally gripping than I ever could’ve imagined.
Alan and Samantha’s bond is written with such authenticity that it feels less like reading characters and more like being invited into someone’s real memories. Watching them grow from childhood companions into inseparable adults is heartwarming, funny, and at times painfully honest. Their inside jokes, their awkward teenage moments, their unspoken feelings every chapter felt like reliving my own memories with the people I’ve loved most.
But the true power of this book hits when tragedy strikes. The way Alan is forced to sit with his memories while Sam fights for her life is both heartbreaking and incredibly moving. His reflections are written with such emotional clarity that I felt every ounce of his fear, regret, love, and longing. Casey Ford captures the fragility of life and the weight of “what if” in a way that had me completely undone.
What makes this story extraordinary is how real it feels. The pacing is perfect, the characters are beautifully flawed, and the emotional payoff is worth every moment of heartache. By the end, I wasn’t just reading about Alan and Sam, I cared about them. Deeply.
If you’re looking for a story about lifelong connection, the bittersweet passage of time, and the question that haunts all of us during moments of uncertainty, How would you spend the time until?this book is an absolute must-read.
Highly recommended. One of the best emotional reads I’ve picked up in a long time.
I had the privilege to Beta read The Time Until and the first time around, oh my god, I sat reading it, sobbing my heart out from start to finish. Both happy and sad tears. My emotions were all over the place and that in itself, to me anyway, is a book that I love. You make me cry, I will love you forever.
I have read this book three times and each time is just as emotional as the last despite knowing what is going to happen. Each time a little has changed and I think the final version is just pure amazing. Casey will have you hooked from the very start, wanting to know the beginning of Sam and Alan, wanting to journey through their time line, know about their friendship and how they go to the point they are at now…with Sam fighting for her life and Alan, his life also altered but he is petrified of life without Sam. Casey has a way with this story that you just cant and don’t want to put it down. You NEED to know what is going to happen, need to know their background but need to know if Sam lives or dies…and if she dies, how Alan is going to handle her death.
They have pretty much been inseparable since they were 5, and at 20, that’s a hell of a lot of time and years spent together. To lose her would kill him. My heart was hurting, my chest was hurting, I cried so hard that my make-up was running down my face and this book was all I could think about…and this was only when I was Beta’ing it, so I damn well know just how brilliant this story is if I was feeling all these emotions right from the beginning.
I don’t want to spoil the book, as I want YOU to read it and because so much happens during the time Sam is fighting for her life, from the past and the present of these two, how their families are coping and how their friends are there for both of them throughout the event. You find out so much from Alan, about his and Sam’s past, about how they became friends, everything they have been through together and separate and despite Sam being in a coma, you learn so much about her, her personality, her love, all from Alan and the flashbacks to the past and of course, how he talks about her in the present. You can really see how much he loves her, how he cant imagine life without her in it and how scared he is to loose her. It cant be an option to him, she has to live and be with him.
Casey makes you go through the motions with your emotions. I literally felt everything whilst reading this book, and bloody hell, what a debut it is. It is firmly on my ‘favourites’ shelf, not just of 2013, but of every book I’ve read. You can tell just how hard Casey worked on this book, to how he wanted it to be portrayed and read and he was spot on with everything – from the emotions, the storyline and especially how he keeps you hanging right until the end to see if Sam lives or dies. I was consumed within this book, needing to get to the end to know how it ended and it really is a great ending to the story of Sam and Alan.
If there is one book you buy today, then make it The Time Until. You will not be disappointed, you will sob your little heart out so hard but it’s worth every single word to get to the finish, to see how it ended….
So to you Casey, from Sugar Boobs, thank you so much for letting me Beta read this and everyone is going to love it, I just know it :D I look forward to reading more books from you in the future!
I just need to put this out there. This is the most emotional book I have read in a long time, and I mean it. I was an emotional mess whilst reading The Time Until and Casey Ford deserves nothing but the highest praise for this amazing story. Love, friendship and tragedy, this is the story that will make you hold your loved ones tighter, because you just don't know what is around the corner.
The Time Until is given to the reader in first person, all from Alan's point of view, which I absolutely LOVED because I rarely read a book that is written from a male perspective. It's not that I don't choose to, it's because there's a lot more women writers in this genre than men. Reading from Alan's point of view was a refreshing change and really added to how much I enjoyed the story.
The structure of The Time Until was out of this world. Casey Ford jumps back and forth between the present and the past, letting the reader in on all of the details from Alan and Samantha's past, starting right back when they first meet in Kindergarten, at the tender age of only five years old. This carries on as the story progresses and it has a beautiful effect, allowing us to begin right at the beginning with them.
The characters in The Time Until are exceptional. Alan Green is the main character and through Alan the reader is able to relive all of his memories and feel his emotions with him. Alan seemed like a very sensitive guy. He cares about Samantha deeply and they have such a beautiful connection with each other. Alan decides that he is love with Samantha from an early age, and I was wondering whether it would eventually wear off, but it doesn't. No matter what happens, Sam is ALWAYS Alan's first priority, and no one is able to get in the way of the overwhelming love that lies between them.
Samantha is a vibrant, energetic care-free girl/woman. From the moment they meet, Samantha takes charge and Alan follows her lead.
"I got it" she announces, her face brightening up slightly as if she just thought of something really good. "My name's Sam and from now on you're mine."
Once their friendship begins, there is no parting them, even though both of their parents do try. Sam endearingly refers to Alan as a "pansy", but Alan doesn't really mind. He loves having Sam around, and it doesn't change as they get older. With their bond blossoming from such a young age, it is just so incredibly strong, there are no words to even describe it.
Casey Ford really sets the tone in the story, making it sombre, emotional and incredibly grim. There's a lot of nostalgia too, as Alan constantly looks back to his past, bringing up old memories of himself and Sam in better times. The whole story just plays with your emotions, taking you to a place of happiness and then dropping you back into the present, which is depressing and grey.
I'm giving the unforgettable The Time Until a well deserved 5 star rating. This book is honestly something else, and I advise everyone to read it. Not only is it a beautiful story, but it's incredibly thought provoking too. As I said at the beginning, it makes you want to grab all of your loved ones, hold tight and never let go. HUGE high five to Casey Ford, what an amazing story.
Alan Green met the love of his life in kindergarten when he was five years old. Since that first day Al and Sam have been best friends and inseparable. Their story is one of a kind and spans the time of fifteen years. They grow up together, experience first loss, love, kisses and heartbreak. They endure it all together and help each other through the hardest and sweetest of times.
“My name’s Sam and from now on you’re mine.”
Their story starts off with a horrific car accident that leaves both of them forever changed and Sam’s life hanging in the balance. As Sam lies in a coma, Al tries to come to grips with his injuries and what is happening with Sam. He starts reminiscing about their life together so far and this is where you learn their story.
“I do love you, Sam. If you hear nothing else while in your dream world hear this: I love you.”
Even as a small child Al is drawn to Sam’s outgoing, no-nonsense, take the world by storm personality. Where he is quiet and sensitive she is loud and tough. Through the years their bond grows stronger and Al finds himself falling quietly and quite desperately in love with her.
“My heart once again goes to her and she owns it completely. It beats when she tells it to, stops when she leaves. It breaks at her word and her touch repairs it. Her warmth sustains me and her smile gives me wings. Sam has me, body and soul. She has always held my heart, now she owns it. Forever.”
Waiting for Sam to awaken from her coma and not knowing the state she will be in if she does, is the most excruciating pain Al has ever experienced. He goes through dozens of scenarios in his head as he waits and prays for the best possible outcome. When Sam’s condition betters than worsens again Al’s strength is tested, and he wonders if he can be strong enough to face the worst if it comes.
“……no world is worth living in without her.”
The Time Until is the debut novel by author Casey Ford. The story is told from Alan’s point of view and jumps back and forth between the past and present. Here you learn the story of Al and Sam as they grow up together and experience life along with their family and friends. I loved Alan and felt every single emotion right along with him as he grew from a small child experiencing puppy love to a man who wants nothing more than to love his soul mate. I laughed, I cried, I was even so frustrated at one point I had to stop reading and take a deep breath. I was scared to finish it, I was scared of what would happen if Sam woke up, and I was scared of what would happen if she didn’t. I did finish it though and I loved it!! I am still shocked that this is Casey Ford’s first novel. It was amazing and definitely now one of my favorite novels! Please read this book! It’s a touching story that shows how true love can endure all things, it will tug at your heartstrings and stay with you for a long time!
“You know, Al, I’m so happy right now I could die with no regrets.”
What an inspirational story of determination, friendship, hope and love. I can’t get over how truly touching this story is. Casey Ford brings you on an emotional rollercoaster of great proportotions with Alan and Samantha’s tale, Casey’s debut novel! He not only had me on the edge of my seat the whole time but I could feel his hold on my heart right the way through. Not once could I predict what was to come, to be honest I gave up trying to guess because it’s written so beautifully I just succumbed to the story, to Al and Sam.
The story is told from Alan’s point of view, which I found refreshing to read. Casey has perfected the method of using flashbacks throughout the story and is so easy to follow. The characters, each in their own right, are strong and well developed. There isn’t one character I wouldn’t like to read more of, which is a very rare find! From the story to Al and Sam to the supporting characters to Casey’s technique of writing, everything flowed perfectly.
You may look at this review and find fault with its shortness in lenght or that it's not as indepth into the book as it could be, but for me this is one of those books, I truly can’t give anything away. I wish you to experience it as I had the honour of doing, to allow it to touch your heart forever. The Time Until is one book that I will tell everyone to read, one what I WANT everyone to read because not only is it an amazing story but Casey tell a beautiful message one of hope, faith and belief that whatever comes people can and will “turn lemons into fruit punch.”
I will be reading anything that comes from Casey Ford in the future, guaranteed! Mr Ford you have a supporter in me as long as I have air to breathe and books to read.
Holy freaking shit, this book has just grabbed my heart, stamped on it and then kissed it better only to do it all over again. This was a really intense story to read, I have ugly cried, had my heart beating out of my chest and spent the majority of it holding my breath.
I felt completely and utterly emotionally attached to these characters. I swear to god I was in this book right along with them the whole time, I was gripped from the first page and they didn't let me go until they had shared their story.
I enjoyed reading a book told from a male perspective, it was refreshing and different. I fell in love with Alan and Sam and I was rooting and praying for them all the way. The story itself was also unlike anything I have read before, It is written beautifully and I would challenge anyone to read it without having it effect them.
When I finished reading this book (it took me just over 3hrs, I.could.not.put.it.down) I was actually at a loss for words, It provoked so many emotions in me and I wanted to tell the world that they needed to read this book. I'm actually regretting reading it so quickly, I miss the characters and some of the scenes keep playing over in my mind. This book is one that will stay with me and I am already planning a re-read.
The Time Until is deserving of more than 5 stars, seriously it is amazing. So what are you waiting for, go buy it now and I'd stock up on the tissues too!
Alan Green and Samantha Cohn meet on their first day at Kindergarten, and at 5 years old Al is distraught at being left by his Mum. It was Sam that took him by the hand and said “don’t cry she’s coming back, your mine I’ll look after you”. And from that moment on they were inseparable, they formed a friendship that grew to be something much more.
They shared all the normal things that come with being teenagers and moving into their Adult years, their secrets, plans for the future, Al had his Soccer and Sam her running. They had their ups and downs like all teenagers but whatever it was, it was always together.
When a tragic turn of events leaves Sam fighting for her life, Alan can only sit waiting and praying that she pulls through whilst remembering their lives together.
After the first chapter I begun to struggle with this for a while, but once I got used to the fact it was going to jump back and forth through their lives I really enjoyed it. I felt for Alan sitting at Sam’s bedside not knowing if his whole life was going to end with the death of the woman he loved, or if she would pull through and they could fulfil all their dreams and plans. It’s a very emotional story and one where you feel for the characters and what they are going through. I would recommend this book. I give it 4 Stars.
So I looooved the first half.. 5 stars.... But the second half didn't come together as well for me. I kept thinking when is she going to wake up... At 70% she was till asleep... I loved the flashbacks at first but after a while I on,y wanted to read the present. I also felt like the flashbacks didn't make it clear that they were dating since junior year if high school.... I was under the impression that he loved her but she still didn't know... Maybe that's what the author wanted. Overall a great read but it didn't come together perfectly for me. Too rushed in the end... But 4 solid stars. AMAZING WRITING!!
