Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to the undoubtedly WORST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ in my entire life.

In fact it sucked such colossal ass that I have made two brand new shelves just for this book. The first one would be 'worst book I have ever read' (duh...), and it's not really a shelf. It's in fact.............. a throne. The Devil's Eyes will sit there until I the time some other book surfaces that will be even more idiotic, shallow, stupid, unimaginative, cheesy, vulgar, uninspiring, and all together even more catastrophic than this pathetic prosaic monstrosity that crawled out of the sewers to reach the light of day.

It sat on my TBR pile for ages, I added it because I loved the blurb, it sounded so promising. It needs to come with a warning to let you know what exactly is the reader getting himself into.

Starts like this:

On the very first page of the, you guessed it, the very first chapter, our (let's kid ourselves and call her a heroine, just for laughs) “heroine” visits her sister's grave and after a brief moment and a bunch of flowers an old lady walks by that the “heroine” has never seen before in her life and asks her about the grave. Normal, right?..... Wait for it.....

The “heroine” launches herself in a monologue three pages long about how sweet her sister was until she met the wrong man, how she took care of her, bought her books, paid the bills and coddled her, until the previously mentioned wrong man starts abusing her....(mind you, this abuse never happens in front of our “heroine's” eyes, but she is certain it's there), because her sister eventually winds up being a prostitute for the man, doing all sorts of illegal things including drugs, and winds up killing her self.

The old lady says one thing down the lines of “Oh how awful, and what did you do?”

And we are introduced to another mile long monologue, this one featuring her drunken mother, with the support cast of oversexed stepfathers that burned books on the stake and hunted daily for her virginity, culminating in a battle in witch she was saved by a stranger, a man she never saw before....

Dafuq did my eyeballs just witness????? Poor little old lady. There is no taking things back after this point, shit seen cannot be unseen.

Of all the possible ways to introduce the back-story, like visiting her sister then having solitary cup of coffee while she takes us down memory lane or something so simple the author chooses her “heroine” to go off rambling about the intimate details of potential sexual abuse, sexual awareness and frustration (she even manages to say how she was dreaming the guy was her boyfriend, and she was jealous of her sister) poverty, oddly- a fondness for books- that got a lot of time in the spotlight, then the new career as a stripper/prostitute to a random stranger over her sister's grave.

Moving on:

Next chapter gives us the pleasure of our “heroine” starting work as a stripper in an upscale nightclub, so elite and exclusive that only the best, most talented dancers who of course have to be the most beautiful women out there work. Of course, she is one of them, because she is so friggin awesome. Without a doubt her performance outshines everyone else's (naturally). She sets the gears in motion to get her revenge on a man that is such a a hardened criminal, even his shadow is afraid of him. If only she could somehow get his attention....oh my let's just finish our job of getting naked for the guests, then even though we are staff, stroll down and take a seat in front of the VIP area where the evil boss man sits, then take our book out and start reading it, loudly ignoring him......in the middle of the night........in an upscale strip club.......reading a book...... amongst the guests........that just saw you get nekkid............ignoring your boss????

BUAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I never guffawed in my life, but I guffawed when I read that.

You don't have to be upscale to know how the staff-guest relations work, but just from that nugget it's painfully obvious that the author and upscale met only on paper.

Even further:

She finally gets his attention, being so friggin awesome as she is, and he takes her to an auction to see how much money would people bid to shag her. The night ends and he is furious, why??? Because everyone bid on her, all of them solely on her and not a single other woman!! Well we all knew that she is so friggin awesome, looks like he's finally catching on. Good for you, son, now let's get this party started! He takes her to his house, where the most incredibly stupid sex scene happens. He gets hot, they both get naked, then he storms out because he forgot some meeting?!? She falls asleep to be woken by some other guy taking her panties off while her boss watches. She slaps the shit out of the guy, threatens her boss (who is a hardened criminal, murderer, pimp, drug pusher and all that) that she will call the cops on him.

BUAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Would you look at that? I guffawed twice.

Anyhooo she somehow winds up unsexed walking out of his house in his clothes, because she stripped the dress he gave her in her righteous rage. Love this quote:

“Leaving his house smelling of him, wearing his clothes and feeling strangely more aware of him then ever before I can't help but wonder... Why didn't he kill me?”

Bitch, me either. One of the worlds greatest mysteries till this day.

Yeah, i know, i know, don't get upset, fictional characters and all that, if this novel was based on any logic and common sense, he would be behind bars and fetured in "The world's dumbest criminals" after all the stupidities he pulled, and she would be dead, because we all know that people can't live without a brain. But still...

Now I have only covered a few chapters of this novel and not even touched all the points that were so very wrong with this book. Like the moment he is about to have sex with her and she thinks how the last time she saw him like this with his dick out was when he fucked her sister...awwwwww...what an emotionally charged moment. *gag* If this book was being reviewed by genuine critics I see the words like brazen and bold coming up. Don't get me wrong it's not the novel itself it's the author. She had an interesting concept but it felt like she was tripping over her own shoes in her hurry to tell her story and wind up with such unbelievable nonsense that is an absolute insult to the readers intelligence. To top all of that, this is only the first book of the series. There are two more. I must congratulate her for sticking up for her work and moving on. She proved that producing something as horrendous as this novel didn't shake her resolve but in fact solidified it. This woman honestly scares me. I am afraid of her.

The second shelf I have added for this book would be the 'nuclear waste' shelf, because I firmly believe that any prolonged exposure to Loren's writing would cause hair loss, second and third degree burns, organ failure and culminate in a slow and painful death.

NOT REALLY.

Nicholas Jayzon commanded attention when he walked into a room. If you were ever damned enough to make eye contact with him, you would know what it is like to be lured in by The Devil's Eyes.

First of all, this is NOT a paranormal romance. I thought it was at first because of the title and frankly, the cover isn't helping either. After reading Sins & Needles and Fallen Too Far, I'm in need of more dysfunctional romance fix and immediately thought of this one based on a recommendation made by a friend not so long ago.

DNF at 42%

Good premise, sloppy execution.

It just didn't work for me. The book feels rushed most of the time and the characters are so one-dimensional, it's annoying!

I am going to have to come up with something to get closer to Nick, something other than having to sleep with him like the rest of his female entourage. There has to be a way to get Nick to slip up and give me something to hold over him.

Actually, I hated how Kayla planned everything and then just because one really stupid plan backfired, she came waving a white flag at him. I used to find that scenario funny, what's wrong with me??

I needed something dysfunctional, and I got it. But the way the MCs kept blowing hot and cold was too much that I gave up! It's senseless and it's making my head spin.

IMO, miscommunication and immature attitudes never make a good combination for a great story.

What a waste of my hard earned cash this was! I can't believe there are readers out there who found this badly written tosh (and 'tosh' is putting it mildly) worth their praise. I have read many an awful book in my time but this has to be the worst, the Everest summit of stinking awful.

Upon reading the synopsis, one is horribly mislead to expect a gritty dark story of two damaged people finding one another while groping through their violent, unyielding world. Well, it is nothing of the sort. It is a mere concoction of badly written little episodes as they came in and flew straight out of the head of the writer without any effort to put together the semblance of a narrative, let alone create a world, a mood, the feeling of an experience. There was no attempt at setting a pace, and no care for the demands of that thing called narrative flow. All you get for your trouble of reading this pile of rubbish is the flattest, most cardboard cut-out of a heroine, and a zero-dimensional hero (so cardboard and zero-dimensional that calling them stupid would endow them with a depth they lack).

I must admit, I did roar with laughter (not what the writer intended to elicit) at the lack of understanding of the most basic, minimal psychology and the complete lack of simple logical connections (I'm not talking about coherence, I won't go all intellectual on you) between the heroine's musings/feelings and her actions, as every eight pages a new man, with a 'secret' agenda, and oodles of priapic lust for the heroine, is introduced into this woman's life and she, who's supposedly deeply, darkly, and fatefully in love with the hero, immediately starts planning a new life with the latest dick on the block. I don't mean wanting to hump him or an one night stand, no, she starts thinking 'relationship material' and plans to set up home with him, choose curtains, go through the Argos catalogue.

On and on it went, endless in its repetitious tedium, inexhaustible in its flatness and blind to its own inanity. And as if all those failings were not enough to have this book marked 'return to sender' and never published, the sex scenes are awfully boring too. Unfortunately, I have also bought the sequel to this dross but I shall not be subjecting myself to the torture that is Jennifer Loren's prose any longer. The delete button is my friend.

This is like horrible, horrible fanfiction. There were grammar mistakes EVERYWHERE, though they may have fixed it before published. I've only read half of the preview and although I planned to read it all, I just couldn't bring myself to finish it. It wasn't even a story, just a long-winded series of "I hate you. Now fuck me. JK, don't touch me, I hate you. No, wait, I've changed my mind, fuck me NOW." Also, there were parts that were extremely vague. I mean, c'mon, and I expect a somewhat detailed action scene. Instead there was a half-assed, "I fought them off as best as I could, but I was too weak." Seriously, just a sentence or two of bland words with no action whatsoever in a part that SUPPOSE to be exciting. It's like the author just threw her hands in the air while shouting, "Screw this! I'm writing a SEX box full if SEX. Who needs action other than the type that involves a bed!"

What Made Me Rage Quit:
I mean, seriously? God... *shakes head*

Oh, and more thing: revealing a character's ENTIRE history through DIALOUGE is one of the most amatuer-writer moves ever. It shows that you're too lazy to come up with a creative way to incorporate their background into the story so you just forced it through the characters' mouths. Even if being polite.

Conclusion:
If I can barely stomach the preview, how the hell would I handle the book?

Kayla`s sister killed herself after her boyfriend/pimp/criminal-psycopath (Nick) dumps her sorry ass. Kayla then sets out to get revenge. Planning to get close enough to kill the guy. Insted of killing him at her first chance, which I would say she could have done a million times, she let`s him be her pimp!!! She wants to prove herself to him by being a good whore. This is real character building, if you ask me?!? Jesus! Then she falls in love with her pimp, because he`s just so freaking good looking and treats her like trash.
Then we find out he has known who she is the entire time and is desperatly in love with her. That is why he pimps her out, to scare her away! Yes! They are that fucking stupid! I`m not one to preach, but come on!?! Even a pimp must have some standards? Right? Hell, I don`t know..
In the beginning plot seemed okay. Pretty soon the it derailed from the "revenge" aspect and spiraled out to a bunch of random events.
Now, English is my second language, but still the grammar bothered me. The editing is horrific. Skipping days, months by suddenly summing up what happend in a few short sentences. I feel next to no compassion for the characters. The character building of the boyfriend is really, really bad, I just don`t know the guy.
And Kayla is almost raped time and time again, but saved at the last minute by Nick the sweetheart. Every man in this book is pretty much a rapist waiting to happen. Really sexy stuff! To say the characters are one-dimentional is putting it mildly.
There are twists and turns in the story, which have no effect because it`s so predictable it is`nt funny! The author takes away from the story by not letting us make the connections. This book has a cliffhanger ending, that again is just too freaking easy. We know he is a live! I mean, really? How stupid do you think we are? For some reason I always finish the book, no matter how bad. Usually I have to finish the series also, but with this one I`m not sure I can. As fanfiction I guess it is what it is, some will probably love it, but I can`t.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

09/13/16 - OMG What was I thinking or have my reading tastes changed in three years?!?! I originally gave this book 4 stars back in 2013. I started to reread it since I noticed I had book 2 in my TO READ shelf, but I could not remember one thing about the book. So I started it yesterday and I can not believe I was not disturbed the first time. My rating has changed from 4 to 2 stars. The writing is still good, but what the hero allows to happen, is not love to me. Like I mentioned...what was I thinking 3 years ago?!?!?

09/12/16 - I am going to reread this one since I forgot a lot of what was going on and I have book 2 in my TO READ shelf. Right now I am curious why I liked this book so much when the prologue is the hero with the heroine's sister and I have never liked stories about having 'left-overs'. Maybe this book was also my 'out of comfort' read. I try to read those once in awhile since I tend to always read the same type of stories. Well I will find out.

05/8/13 - OMG, my stomach is in knots after reading this book. Non-stop action. Not a single dull moment in that book.

When I originally saw the cover, I thought that this book was a paranormal. No, it is not a paranormal. No paranormal activity in this book. Nick just has the best eyes…the devil’s eyes.

The first couple of chapters I could not believe what was happening. Not your typical love story here and that is what made it all the more interesting. There is no insta-love with this couple. It is honest and no hearts and roses. Well maybe later. This is a crime/mob book with a crime/mob hottie.

I was initially so nervous about Nick and what his intentions were. I was not able to relax until in the middle we got Nick’s POV. Wow, the book changed then. Steamy…hot…intense.

“I love you. I love you Kayla. I hate it, but I do. You drive me absolutely insane but I love you so much that I think about you constantly. Even when you sleep right next to me, I worry that if I fall asleep that you might not be there when wake up.”

Did I skim? No

Did I feel connected to the characters? Yes.

Pace of the story: Good. Intense.

Positives: Great story, great writing. Something is always happening. You do not know where the story is going to take you. I was so nervous. Loved that half way through the book we got Nick’s POV. Those were the best chapters. With chapter, you wil not know where the story is going to go.

Negatives: Not sure what my negatives are even days after finishing this book. I was instantly involved in the story and the characters. Do I love Nick? Do I trust Nick? I do but so nervous. He is a crime boss after all.

Do I recommend? Yes

4.5 Holy Moly STARS!

The Devil’s Eyes does not get enough credit! It’s one crazy book with action, romance and secrets. It will leave you shaking once finished.

Kayla only has her sister, Braylin. When Braylin commits suicide because of a breakup, it’s Kayla’s mission to avenge her sister’s death. Kayla plans to seduce and hurt Nick, Bryalin’s ex-boyfriend. But Nick is no normal boyfriend, he’s lives a dangerous world that Kayla isn’t afraid to jump in.

WHAT A CRAZY STORY?!!!!!!

I picked up The Devil’s Eyes because I wanted an action pack book with a damaged Hero and boy did I get that. Kayla is a tough cookie. Her story is very sad. She loved her sister and doesn’t understand why Braylin killed herself. Kayla decides to be a stripper for the club Nick owns. What I love about Kayla is she is no “innocent” girl. She wants to avenge her sister, so she has to be a stripper? Sure! She strips with pride and uses her brain to get Nick’s attention.

Then she has to become a prostitute! She again, doesn’t bat an eye and this is when I get REALLY into the book. I love leading ladies with sad past, but a strong disposition that isn’t annoying. Kayla isn’t like I-AM-WOMAN-HEAR-ME-ROAR, she simply knows what she needs to do to get the job done. She’s sassy, funny and really smart. I love interaction between the men that cross her path.

As for NICK, he’s the Hero you love to hate and want to take to bed. He’s a grade-A jerk and not the kind where you understand his actions, oh no, he doesn’t care about anyone but himself. Does he chase after Kayla? No. Does he let her sell her body to other men? Yes. Nick’s character is really interesting to me. He has so much power and it comes with a high price. Nick is untouchable. Although he isn’t overly interested in Kayla, you can tell he keeps his eye on her at least.

Connor, one of Kayla’s clients gets a little too interested with Kayla and things get really interesting. There is a slight love triangle, but the tension is so high, it’s anything but entertaining. I love the banter and love/hate relationship Kayla and Nick have. I was glued to the pages and couldn’t get enough!

A lot of obstacles go on in The Devil’s Eyes, there’s NEVER a dull moment. Just think a combination of Killing Sarai and Sempre. It’s just crazy action, suspense and you never know what’s going to happen.

The ending wasn’t a surprise, but oh by the OPEN CLIFFY will leave you hanging speechless. I enjoyed this book A LOT and I can’t wait for book 2.

5 Stunning STARS!

I don't even know where to begin!!!! I love mafia romance novels and this book takes it up a notch!!!! Violence, prostitution, betrayal, revenge and that power-struggle-war! With powerful characters at play. It was stunning and shocking... that got me captivated from start to finish.

Kayla though stubborn, she will grow on you... her character is feisty, daring and resilient! I could not believe the length she would go to to achieve what she wants. She definitely shocked me.. Adding to that, the things that she went through, the person she became, for Nick, I'm just stunned!

Now Nick, though he is described hot and sexy that every women wants, oozing with power and self confidence.... I could not believe that he would let Kayla go that far to discourage her... knowing his feelings afterwards towards Kayla, I was again shocked and a bit disappointed in line with again just shocked but being the powerful boss of the crazy mafia world, what do I know! All I know is that his actions astound me to the end!

Their passion so intense that drives me crazy...

Ryan, I've grown to love him too... though I could not picture him with Kayla... but there were moments that almost made me go there.

Suspense, action, romance and surprises... thrills me to no end... Though yes, one twist of the story was predictable, BUT I don't feel like it brought the storyline down, in fact, I was waiting for that climatic scene! And then, there it was! A definitely explosive ending that makes me want to scream and reach for the second book right away!

This is not a short read... it introduce us to the gangster world where the danger never cease to end. The length you would do, sacrifice you make, to protect the ones you love! It is mind-blowing... gritty, absolutely NOT for the faint-hearted...

OMG! Yet another mind fuck! I haven’t had that since the Consequences Series by Aleatha Romig! Romantic Suspense just might be superseding Erotic Romance for my favorite spot!

First a synopsis: Kayla’s older sister Bray is the only family she has. Bray is the perfect older sister, working hard to get her little sister to college. That’s until she meets Nicholas Jayzon. Everything in Bray’s life spirals out of control until one day Kayla finds her dead. Determined to get revenge, Kayla works up a plan and gets a job working as a stripper in Nicholas’ club. Nicholas is gorgeous, has every woman eating out of his hand, but he’s also involved in very criminal activities. Kayla knows just how to get to him, that’s if she doesn’t end up like all the other women…

I got this one from a Goodreads friend’s Favorites Bookshelf. Every recommendation I pick up from her shelf is always a 4 or 5 star read so I was very excited for this one. That was until I started it, it gave a whole new meaning to lowering your expectations. I was so disappointed by what I can only describe as grammatical inconsistencies. I felt like the author had not really decided which tense to write the book in. That actually really bothered me. I went back to Goodreads and I couldn’t believe all the raving reviews! Made me re-check whether I bought the right book!

At about 30% things look up a bit. I will guiltily admit that it’s no coincidence that I started enjoying it just when the book started steaming up ;)But that’s not all, though the writing still felt weird to me, it started becoming more like background noise. At 50% I was still tempted to let this one go (a true testament to my indecisive nature) but then we got Nick’s POV! It was so sweet and surprising better written (or maybe by this point I had gotten used to the writing). Either way I stopped debating whether to give up on the book.

At 60% I became glad I stuck it out! Its not just the relationship that develops between Nick and Kayla (I of course loved the steamy scenes) but you get drawn into this undercover criminal world that is complex and disturbing, yet you get so caught up, its like pure adrenalin rush! Nick was such an asshole in the beginning, he treated Kayla so badly I wondered if he’d ever redeem himself. But then he does and he becomes just perfect in my opinion…well as perfect as a criminal can be…

“I want you to come home with me.” He says cradling me and sighing as he leans his head against mine. “Come home with me Kayla. I want you … back in my bed, my house … my life.”

And then as if that isn’t enough, the stakes go higher. See, Nick’s dealings have made him countless enemies. He’s not only wanted by the cops, he also has rivals to deal with. And this all just escalates. I think I read the last 20% with my jaw on the ground. The drama, the secrets being slowly revealed… I actually re-read some scenes fearing I would miss something vital to the story. And then the end! Is it possible for eyes to water in shock? Mine did! I think I was relieved and shocked at the same time which trust me is a weird feeling!

Now I HAVE to get the sequel!

The first half of the book is a 2 star but the second half is a definite 4 star! So let’s settle for what? 3 star? Maybe 3.5…gah! I’ll rate it when I’ve calmed down!

Deny it all u want, everyone loves a bad boy & Nick is as bad as they come! Love him!! But seriously, awesome book. Pulled me in and didnt let go. Lots of action & superhott chemistry!! Kept me on the edge of my seat. I would have liked to see more from Nicks POV though, I liked getting into his head. It made u realize that no matter how badly he treated Kayla sometimes u saw where he was coming from & loved him more for it. It was also refreshing to see Kaylas transformation thru-out the book. She wasnt ur typical heroine waiting around to be rescued all the time, she really came into her own & took to her new unexpected life better then anyone would have thought. Plenty of twists & turns & OMFG moments thinking who the hell can I trust!! The only complaint I have is the ending, CliffHangers drive me INSANE!!! I will be not-so-patiently climbing the walls til the next book comes out!! Jennifer Loren has definitly landed on my favs list & I CANNOT wait to see what she comes out with next =]

I can't not believe I took so long to read this book.. It is SO good! I couldn't put it down once I started.

It is absolutely jam packed full of action! The whole way through I found myself trying to guess what could happen and every scenario I guessed was wrong, which is good!

It left off with a huge cliffhanger and I and wait to start the next book!

5 huge stars!

DNF

I couldn't finish The Devil's Eyes. It was superficial, too wordy with long explanations and the characters were not appealing.

Beyond those issues I couldn't get past Kayla prostituting herself. There was really no good reason for it. It just made me loose all respect for her.

If you had asked me to rate this when I was at 50% of this book I would have given it 1 star. I actually almost stopped reading around that point and was thinking it was about a 1 star read. The first half was written almost like a 3rd grader had written it. I am not a grammar/punctuation nazi at all. I feel like a book should be rated on the story, characters, and delivery unless the grammatical errors are so bad that I can't understand the book. This writing was awful during the first half of the book. Some points of the story were rushed and the characters were one dimensional. Also the hero Nick is not what I expected or wanted in the male lead. He was a pimp and a mobster which I have no problem with. He possessively has such undying love for Kayla that he has been in love with her since they were teens. The funny thing is and where this book loses me is when he hires her as a stripper in his club and even goes as far as pimping her out. One of the people he pimped her out too was his own brother btw but apparently he was using an assumed name so he didn't know this. I just don't think that someone who's hopelessly in love with Kayla would have pimped her out and pushed her into prostitution.Normally anti-heroes are some of my favorites. I really like some of the mobsters and gangsters in lead roles in books. They just usually treat their women a lot different then Nick did. Something happens midway through this book and I'm not sure why. It's almost like one person wrote the first half and a totally different author wrote the second half of this book. Everything about it is different. The writing style, the characters reactions even. Nick goes from pimping her out to being a possessive alpha male. It was totally weird. IMO this book was not worth the $3 it cost in kindle edition. The first half especially read like a bad fan fiction. I will say that the premise and the second half of the story was really good. Someone could rewrite this book and make it great. I liked who Kayla and Nick were during the second half of the book and I loved them fighting/hating one another during the first half. I just didn't like Nick's inconsistent behavior and Kayla being a whore. It didn't jive with the rest of the book. I also refuse to like this series if Kayla gets with Ryan. Really do they have to continue to sleep with one anther's siblings? Ugggghhhh

What the hell did I just attempt to read?
I couldn't finish. Literally couldn't read one more page.

This was seriously my facial expression from page 1.

I'm not being dramatic. Even the beginning was weird and not well written and had me wondering immediately what I was getting myself into.

50 pages in of nothing but WTF, complete (and I do mean complete) lack of any and all detail, flat characters, and even more WTF.
How this book gets 5 star ratings and maintains above a 4 average is completely beyond me because it caused me physical pain to read the small bit I managed.
Sorry. Might be up someone else's alley, but no me gusta.

RE-READING BEFORE BOOK 4 IS OUT. ONE OF THE BEST SERIES EVER!!!!

_______________________________

This book was absolutely amazing. Kayla is all kinds of amazing. I am so in love with this book that somehow amazing is the only adjective I can think of right now.

Love the story. It's a bit all over the place but it didn't read like a mess to me. Instead it kept me very interested.

Love the characters. Kayla sure is a tough cookie. Who doesn't love an ass-kicking heroine? Love the funny banter. I wish I had Kayla's gift for great comebacks. Thank heavens, the second book is out. Otherwise that ending would've really sucked. But now, it's just making me itch to get on to the next book.

From my blog.

Nicholas Jayzon commanded attention when he walked into a room. If you were ever damned enough to make eye contact with him, you would know what it is like to be lured in by The Devil’s Eyes.

I definitely have a weakness for well-written mafia romances like Crow's Row (I'm still waiting for the second book...) and the Untouchable series, and this is right next to my all-time favorites. It had the right balance of romance, steamy scenes and suspense, and kept me on my toes the entire night.

I can't even say how much I enjoyed this book. I had just begun reading The Education of Sebastian and I liked it well enough, but I had been feeling restless for the entire day and that story just wasn't fast enough for me. I just took a quick look at Goodreads and I'm not even sure where I saw the cover of this book and the rating (it was something like 4.3 out of 5). I read the blurb and I just knew I needed this book right away. I have never done a better decision.

Nick has a reputation and every woman in the city is aware of it, if not from word of mouth, then simply by catching a glimpse of him.

I was taken with Nick the first time we saw him and the infatuation just continued to grow throughout the book. He is the definition of a bad boy and I so, so, so love a good bad boy (LOL). I mean, it can't really get any badder that a cold-hearted mafia boss, right? He has this presence that just draws people to him and makes them scared of him at the same time. He's cold and calculating and doesn't seem to care about anyone else but himself.

“Come on Nick, did you have parents or did the devil just create you from some spare parts?”

Kayla's sister was one of his conquests and she's looking for revenge. She's spent years studying him and she's ready to beat him at his own game. She gets herself hired as a dancer in one of his clubs to get closer to him. She has a plan to kill him and doesn't really care about anything else because she has nothing to lose. Kayla's strong and smart and resourceful. She had the worst childhood, but she's grown into a wonderful young woman.

“Wine?” He asks while already perusing the wine list.
“Sure. If you’re buying, I will have one of each.”

Nick and Kayla are really similar and get into way too many arguments. Plus, she tries to kill him... While she may try to be immune to his charm and his eyes, she never really is (I mean, she does fall in love with the devil...). I really, really enjoyed watching her take control over him and I loved how deep in love the devil fell. And here's another reason I love mafia romances: the guy would anything to keep his girl alive and well; there are are no laws in this world, which also means there are no limits how far he can gp.

“Go clean yourself up and go to bed. You don’t have to go to sleep and you can go to bed with your bat, if you like, but the quicker you look vulnerable, the quicker they will try to kill you.”
“Oh, well. Let me hurry then.” I said faking my excitement.

What I also enjoyed was that Kayla was no weakling next to Nick. She was able to fight her own fights and make him see things from her point of view. She also was able to tolerate the violent world Nick lives in and didn't have any hopes or dreams about ever leaving all of this behind.

And they had super hot chemistry. The scenes where Nick was trying to seduce Kayla... HAWT! And when he fell in love with her... Aww... That was so sweet. He was suddenly so sweet and attentive and thoughtful.

And he called her Princess... What more can you ask for?

Should you read it? I don't even have words to tell you to go and read it right this moment. Just do yourself a favor and read it, now.

----- Spoiler. Alert. Continue at your own risk. Don't say I didn't warn ya.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Besides the fact that the eyes on the cover of this book kind of freak me out... THIS BOOK WAS FUCKING FANTASTIC!

I adore Kayla. She has an insanely high self-esteem that I'm jealous of. She won't take shit from anybody. Besides the fact that she was a prostitute and can be rather dumb when it comes to certain situations (of the life or death variety) I envy her. Even when she went and pissed off Nick countless times, I was over here like YOU GO GIRL!

Even though she does move from guy to guy without much thought. Must be a prostitute thing. The fact that she kissed Ryan made me sick. Thankfully Ryan stopped that shit THANK GOD. I was worried.

And how about that Nick Jayzon?

I think you get my point.

However, his temper pissed me off at times. I understand why he would push Kayla away and didn't want her to be a part of his life, it still broke my heart when he would tell her to leave. But I get it. Still hurt though.

"Nick is dead"

Ya'll remember the way this book ended? Yeah it's pretty safe to say this is how I felt...

AND THEN I FOUND OUT THERE IS A SECOND BOOK!

Went on Amazon.com and bought that shit in 2 seconds flat.

Bring it on baby!

Read this book ya'll! It's one hell of a ride!

I didn't really take notice of this story. I kind of wasn't focused more until I just took the time to read it slowly. So eventually I find myself enjoying the characters. Kayla and Nick.

Kayla was out for revenge. Loved it. Nick of course is the bad boy and so arrogant that you basically want to just slap him.

But I love how the story unfolds. It really leaves you wanting more from Nick. You wouldn't expect things to happen, until you read on. The story is actually good. You won't be disappointed. As for me, I just thought Nick was a total asshole. He didn't care if he hurt Kayla but I surely did. I mean why would she put up with his shit. As you know, Kayla has a backbone and she takes Nick on. Yes. With a vengeance and boy did it deliver.

But anyways like I said, its a GOOD READ.

To be fair, my rating is only for first half of the book, I couldn't finish. Good premise, sloppy execution.

It just didn't work for me. The book felt rushed most of the time (first half I read, anyway) and the characters are so one dimensional, it's annoying!
