I never saw this book coming. The surprising plot that the author has Marissa on is a magical adventure that is a well written tale of secrets, suspense, action, romance, betrayal, magic and wonderful bewitching characters. The second book in The Beckoning series will definitely keep the reader entertained throughout the book.

Daniel and Marissa may have destroyed one enemy, but now another one from their past immediately sets out after them causing the two to be separated for a while. Marissa must first escape her situation before she can help Daniel. Along the way, she meets Rafe and the chemistry between the two immediately ignites the pages. Meanwhile, Daniel is trapped and suffering the guilt of forcing the soul bond on Marissa and trying to figure out how to stop their enemy and deal with his new powers.

I love the way author has Marissa learning how to deal with her magical powers and how she deals with different situations that pop up in her new world. I also love the snarky comments that she may or may not keep to herself.

The reader can’t help connecting to the characters in this series, their emotions and personalities leap off the pages. The author has created a world that the reader can easily picture and become a part of. It is a world that is unique and fascinating magical world that will intrigue the reader throughout and I believe keep them coming back for more. I know I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Marissa’s adventures continue in the second book of Calinda Be’s Beckoning series. From the very first page your drawn back into Marissa’s world. Her Aunt twisted as she is, has managed to send Marissa to an asylum.

But, it’s not all bad. Oh sure, there’s the meds that dull her powers, and a pervert doctor that has the hots for her, but there’s someone special that’s been sent there too. No, it’s not Daniel, her soul bound lover, but it’s someone just as special.

As I read this book, I once again was pulled into the Numina world. With Marissa’s own lack of education, the reader learns the ins and outs of being a member of the Numina with Marissa. Each new lesson beckons to Marissa to grow and accept her powers and new life, to be open and live in the moment. I know that’s a lesson that I need to be reminded of quite often.

This is a book that definitely could be read as a standalone, but once you’ve journeyed here, you’ll want to read The Beckoning of Beautiful Things. And I know I won’t be the first to beg, but I really hope the next part of this adventure comes soon, because I can’t wait to see how Marissa handles her two gentlemen friends.

*I received this book in exchange for an honest review*
This is the second book in the "Beckoning" series and I enjoyed it as much as the first.
At times, I found it was hard to visualize/understand what was going on. But, then it occured to me that the heroine of the book (Melissa) didn't know what was going on either so I could relate to her better. As Melissa found out new things about herself and her new life, the reader found out at the same time.
I was in love with Daniel after the first book, but now I'm in love with Rafe too. Melissa has a difficult choice to make and many more lessons to learn about being a light numen.
I can't wait for book three to see where the story takes me.

I really loved reading this book. It was the kind of book that kept me completely and utterly hooked. I could stop reading it!

I loved how you really see Marissa really grow into her powers and also really learn who she is and that she is a strong capable woman who can make her own decisions. I really took to Rafe and I cant see what happens next with his character and also how him and Daniel are ever going to be able to get along.

The storyline is Amazing especially as the book goes on .. I really can't wait until I read what happens next on this journey. Its seriously addictive!!

I seriously recommend this book and not just the book but also the author! She is such a talented writer!

This story was just as good as the last 2. Of course I found it funny that this time the crazy story took place in an asylum. It was well written and made me laugh. I like the twist and turns. Plus new and old characters show up. I did think Marissa was a hoot as usual and that the funniest things seem to happen to her. Just a good book.

The Beckoning of Broken Things by Calinda B
Marissa awakens to find herself in a mental hospital. Her aunt and sisters decided to commit her when she confronted them about her aunt’s consorting with Daniel’s father. Topaz, Marissa’s aunt, had been working with Armand Navid for most of Marissa’s life and Marissa discovers that their evil work continues.
While in the mental institution, Marissa meets Rafe, a Stealth Numin. She also finds out that Daniel has cast himself into the Darkness after Marissa was taken away.
She must find a way to escape the institution, rescue Daniel, address the issues related to Daniel’s father, and, as if all that isn’t enough, she must also determine what do about her feelings for sexy, sweet, kind, Stealth Numin Rafe. The passion is searing between the Stealth Numin and Marissa. How will this affect the Night Numin she also loves?
Calinda B. is a genre-meshing, creative genius. She creates characters not only out of normal personality traits, but also out of particles of air, crystals from icicles, and gems from the mines of deep thought. Her characters have abilities that are unique to her mind and once met can never be unmet. Readers become enchanted, enthralled, captivated.
In this, the sequel to The Beckoning of Beautiful Things, Calinda B. continues the journey begun there and follows it through to its spectacular conclusion. It is difficult to predict the outcome when it is traversing in the unknown landscape of the Darkness. Journey along with the sexy, hot-blooded Rafe and the gorgeous Marissa. It is a journey that the reader will not regret.

I did enjoy the great writing of this fantasy, which follows the unusual adventures of a Light Rebel who is now locked up and struggles with a host of problems...I don't give spoilers.

The characters were well defined and intriguing, set within an interesting plot, plus a journey of discovery on many levels.

I did not like the sex scenes, which didn't seem necessary to such a degree - as if included for 'what readers want' rather than for a good and worthwhile story.

Overall, an enjoyable read about good versus evil, told with a superb writing style.

I read the 1st book in the series, and was lucky enough to have this one to read right after! I am so glad I did. It moved fluidly from the 1st to the 2nd book. Never a dull moment for me. I was captivated, entranced, and sucked in to the world Calinda has created. I anxiously await to see what Calinda brings next.
