Abandon All Hope

Rate this book
Alternate cover edition of: ASIN B00DFA9NAA

He’s Hope’s assignment.
Hope is sick of being sent to cover stories like the wallaby’s birthday at the local zoo. But why does her big break have to involve him? She grew up with rock star, Chase Hatton. Then they dated and fell in love. But it all came crashing down the night of her senior prom. Sure, her boyfriend Phillip may not be the love of her life, but the good looking reporter is fun, steady, dependable…predictable. In this case predictability is good.

She’s Chase’s heartache.
What starts out for Chase as an average publicity trip to Chicago suddenly becomes complicated when his manager tells him Hope Creswell will be interviewing him in the morning. He spent eight years trying to forget Hope, and now she would be in his penthouse in a matter of hours?

Some things are too painful to forget.
When Chase opens the door to his penthouse and finds Hope on the opposite side, his heart beats a rhythm the rocker has never captured in any of his music. Their mere proximity fans the smoldering embers of their former romance. But should he abandon hope, or chase the love that once rocked his world?

I was born in Overland Park, KS, in the heart of Tornado Alley, and my life has been a bit twisted since. Actually, it’s not all that twisted, but I’ve always wanted to use that line. I grew up in St. Louis, MO, went to school at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and moved to Bloomington, IL, fresh out of college, after my husband got a job at State Farm’s corporate headquarters. I’ve worked as a high school/junior college teacher, personnel recruiter, office manager of a jewelry store, and, for the past ten years, as a lunch lady. I like to karaoke and attend rock concerts. I am actively involved at church and spend too much time on Facebook. I am the mother of a eighteen-year-old, and sixteen-year-old triplets, and have been married to my husband, Don, for over twenty-four years.
I have been a writer all my life. My first book, which was co-written with Mary Ellen Murphey in second grade, was titled The Black Cat, and was written on blue hotel stationary, hole-punched, and bound by white yarn. I believe it is currently out of circulation.
When I turned forty, I had an epiphany of sorts. I realized those bigwig publishing houses in New York were now probably run by people younger than me, so I shouldn’t be intimidated by them. At about the same time I was watching one of those award shows, and Jaclyn Smith got up to give a post-humorous award to Aaron Spelling. She credited him for encouraging her to go into acting, saying something brilliant like, “Reach for your dreams.” Nothing new. Almost even seems a little Jiminy Cricketish. But, for some reason, it struck me that night. When Aaron Spelling was thirteen, he was probably just like any other acned thirteen-year-old. But he worked to achieve his dreams, and became a household name. So, I began to write. Once I finished my first book, I wasn’t able to stop. I would rather write than do just about anything else. After all, you get to make people (characters) do what you want and design your own happy endings. What power! What a privilege.

Hmmmmmm!
2,5 Stars!
I liked some parts of the book.. and the beggining was interesting..
But then it was like that...

Yes words have lost all meaning!
It took me a while to finish it because i was'n into it..
The main hero is too good and the heroine, i guess dumb..

I liked the stories from their past although they were a bit extensive..
I loved the video mostly the scene in the see.. It was so sensual and sexy.. And i loved the kiss he gave her backstage on his concert.. WOW!! so HOT!!!

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE BOOK
- Philip was a jerk..
- Chase was so cute at the awards..
- The story with the mobster wasn't believable..
- I guess i was hopping for something crazier..
- Something was missing..
- I liked how he reinacted their prom..
- The epilogue was nice..

Find out in Abandon All Hope which comes from a title of one of Chase's first songs - by MJ Schiller - another Rocking Romance filled with Journalists and RockStars and despite the cover looking like a YA novel, this series is more aimed for the NA to Adult crowd.

Many people have had the blessing of finding the one early on in life, but it has not always ended with them still being together till their last dying breath. Sometimes life takes a unexpected turn and the perfect relationship ends up as nothing more than a memory.

But if life brings around a second chance for you to once again hold the person of your dreams in your arms, the only question you would need to ask yourself is "Do I trust enough to believe this is real and do I want it?".

This is the situation that Hope faces, in high school she dated Chase, the boy of her dreams and she had never been happier than when she was with him. But a terrible twist of fate at the hands of two fellow students ended the relationship faster than the pounding rhythm of a rock ballad!

So when years later, Hope now a reporter and after the next big story is assigned to follow around the boy of her dreams who has now turned into a hotter than hot rock-star she keeps reminding herself that this will be as easy as snapping pictures and that she is good at so no problem, after all the man cheated on her and she clearly meant nothing.

Until she steps back into the fantasy that is I-will-make-your-body-sing-for-only-me Chase 's life. And Chase has no plans of letting her go, he wants her and he will have her at any cost but he has no idea of what he did to her all those years ago.

The character of Hope was a bit of a ditz , loopy in her own way but with good reason. She comes off as being very strong and independent which stems back to her childhood insecurities however she is at the best of times very weak and very much of a push over. This showed her as very realistic, for we all know we can act tough but it is never really the full truth and nothing but the truth. This also fell very nicely into alignment with her pushing for something but holding back and thus never really fully showing what she is worth. I adored the author using these personality traits of Hope to let her make her choices, it gave me a interesting bouncing here and there and everywhere character, which was very interesting.

The character of Chase was terrific, loved the man from the start go! Kind, caring, sweet, sensual and all kinds of romance. He like Hope had a couple of issues but not as deep which made him the more fun character in this book as oppose to Hope who carriers around a lot of darkness and uncertainty. Chase also did some of the most romantic little scenes I have read in a long time and all I will say as to not spoil it is M.J. you had me wiping away the tears with the dress!

A great touch by the author was incorporating scenes from Hope and Chase's childhood and teenager years by letting the scenes from years ago re-unfold with a new outcome. It was as if I was reading a flashback but whilst it was being played out during real time. Great touch !

I also simply adored to pieces the lyrics of love songs in this read, gave me that special this is romance feeling. The author also gave me a look into the life of Chase as a rock-star and this alone deserves credit, for that is the side we all know we will never see unless we end up dating them!

I am taking away a message of when you find the one you know you are meant to be with and you know they feel the same way, don't let rumours fool you into thinking the worse. Stop, ask for a explanation and then decide before simply just taking off. And always, always remember that when the time calls for it and happiness is what you are after, take fate into your own hands and roll with it!

I recommend this read for anyone who likes quick and easy romance reads with a emotional, sensual and very sweet understanding dialogue. A very cute and fun sexy little read!

It’s all about the love!

This was a story I really enjoyed. There was so much in one book...teen love and angst, dramatic characters and plots. The characters were very likable and the storyline believable although I’m not sure why the mobster portion was needed. And what happened to him anyway? I do enjoy this author’s writing and am now moving on to book 3.

I was given a copy of this in exchange for my honest review.

I am beyond grateful that I had a chance to read this awesome story. I have been in a rock star romance mood and I loved Trapped Under Ice by M.J, so when I was asked to read this one I knew I wouldn't be disappointed.

Hope and Chase are an amazing couple of people. They had been best friends and eventually grew into a couple in high school. Like most of us at that stage of our lives, they made mistakes. Fate pushed them into different directions. Chase went after his music dream and Hope became a photographer/writer.

When Hope is given a chance for her first real assignment, she jumps on it and is surprised that it involves an interview and behind the scenes coverage of her first love, Chase.

Chase is just as astonished when Hope shows up and he vows she won't get away again. Hope has had to face a lot of demons and the pain of facing Chase is hard, especially since she has been in a relationship for two years. What's a girl to do when it is your first love?

I married my best friend and if something had pushed us apart, I would have trampled the world over to make it right. Sometimes, you have to take fate into your own hands and that is what these two do.

I love M.J. Schiller. Her writing is honest, pure, descriptive and I am anxiously awaiting her next book.

I loved this sweet romance! The characters were very likable and the storyline was believable. Two sweethearts from the age of twelve, Hope and Chase lost each other on prom night due to a huge misunderstanding. Their reunion after 8 years was slow getting to the bedroom but what I loved was the sweet but subtle way the author wrote the sex scenes. The rockstar was not typically written as a manwhore and that was refreshing as well.

I recommend.

The Romance Review - See more at: http://www.theromancereviews.com/view...

A keeper! Hope Creswell, newspaper-writer/photographer, has a new assignment--follow the sensational rock-star, Chase Hatton and get an exclusive interview. Seems like a dream come true for any young reporter. There is just one problem--Hope already knows Chase very well, and they shared a childhood friendship that had quickly blossomed into a young romance. Unfortunately, the night of Hope's senior year, the budding romance came to a screeching halt, leaving a hole in her heart that she has yet to fill. Rock star Chase Hatton's life just got incredibly complicated. His manager has informed him the person going to interview is Hope Creswell. In the last eight years, he has tried to forget Hope; in a few hours his resolve will be test. Can he keep things professional and not want to touch her, hold her, make her his again? When Chase and Hope meet again after years apart, sparks fly, and hearts beat to a new rhythm. The second book in the Rocking Romance Collection by M.J. Schiller tells a story of soul mates, of love lost and found again. I love Ms. Schiller's stories; they always make me feel good about love. The story is warm and tender at times, but it shows characters that are real and flawed, as I always expect from an M.J. Schiller novel. It is a bumpy road for these two people to find their way back to each other and it was exciting to be along for the ride. I especially enjoyed the flashbacks to their childhood it made me get a good sense of how they were feeling then. Ms. Schiller writes a tale filled with second chances and the need to be able to trust in true love. Throw in a side plot with a mafia type businessman and things get interesting. Another favorite book for me from M.J. Schiller. I just love her stuff, and definitely recommend this if you are in the mood for a fun, sweet love story. It is not necessary to read the first book in the Rocking Romance Collection to enjoy this one. - See more at: http://www.theromancereviews.com/view...

I loved this book. I read it in one setting.

Childhood sweethearts Chase Hatton and Hope Creswell take us on a journey of first love and first heartbreak. After eight years of separation they are drawn back together and have to make a choice to make it work or not. Chase is a big Rockstar and Hope has a mediocre job as a Journalist. Hope has trust issues with Chase and must work through them. Chase is reluctant at first to have a relationship with Hope but when fate has a say in the matter sparks fly.

As with other MJ books she gives us the gamut of emotions; love, laughter, tears, and heartbreak. The sexual tension between the two characters is intense. The angst factor is high and had me wanting to throttle both characters or jump in and referee. The mystery in this story comes late in the book and is not as intense as other books by MJ but it fits well. The whole aspect of the mystery brings the couple closer together. I loved with this story it is more focused on the couple and how they work through their relationship. One of my favorite scenes in the book is the 2nd prom. (I won’t say anymore I don’t want to ruin it for any one, but SWOON!) You will have to read it for yourself.

I am in love with the Epilogue of this book. Who wouldn’t want a Chase as their man? This book is a standalone with a HEA. I will be recommending this book to everyone. Read it you will not be disappointed.

Quotes:
Hope wasn’t just an old flame; she was the only one to have ever lit his fire at all.

“Then just talk to me. Tell me how much you love me.” She smiled. “I do love you Chase. I love the way you make me laugh. I love the way I feel with you. It’s like I’ve found my home.” She closed her eyes. “I love the way you look at me. And the way you touch me. Chase?”

“Hope Alexis Creswell.” He looked steadily into her eyes. “I’ve loved you since the day I met you, actually since the minute I laid eyes on you. And with each day I’ve spent with you, I’ve grown to love you more.” “I want to love you forever, to be forever lost in your eyes. You’ve stolen my heart.”

“Give me your heart, and make me whole again.”

I had great hopes for this book that started off so strong. I couldn't stop reading the first 20% of the book, then fizzle. It hit a wall for me. Just kind of boring. It went from a 5 to a 3 and stayed there for me until the almost end of the book, when it got a little exciting, maybe a 4? Anyway, I really loved the beginning of the story and wish it had kept my interest riveted.

Chase Hatton was twelve when he fist met Hope Creswell. He was not experienced at such things, but he knew it was love at first sight. He first saw his new neighbor, Hope, crossing his lawn to have dinner with his family. He couldn't take his eyes off of her. They hit if off immediately and became like peanut butter and jelly, in a very platonic "friend"way. It wasn't until their senior year in high school, 6 years later, that Chase finally worked up the nerve to ask Hope out. They couldn't believe they wasted so much time they were so in love. Then, on the night of Prom, something happened and Hope disappeared.

Fast forward 8 years. Hope is at the bottom of the food chain writing for The Chicago Globe and Chase is a headlining Rock Star. Chase is in town for a show and Hope's boss Jack Delaney learns of her high school connection with him. Jack wants to do several articles about Chase for the entertainment section of the paper and blindsides Hope assigning her to shadow him during his stay in the windy city. Hope wants nothing more than to be viewed as a serious reporter, not to mention does not want to see Chase EVER again, and doesn't want to write an article in the entertainment section. However, what Jack Delaney wants, Jack gets, so off she goes to interview the only man she ever loved, who incidentally ripped her heart out.

With the big start of 5 Stars, to the middle of barely 3 Stars, to the ending of 4 Stars, I will average out at 3.5 Stars.

Ultimately, I enjoyed it and would recommend it.

Desperate for a big story, Hope Cresswell is trying to fulfill her dreams of being an ace reporter, but her real passion seems to be photography. As she walks into the newspaper meeting room in anticipation of a big scoop, her boyfriend gets the story she's after. The one Hope gets, is to follow a rock star for a week. Not bad except that rock star is a childhood sweetheart.

Chase Hatton is a good-looking, wealthy, talented writer and musician. He's fine with the article and being followed around for a week. Fine until he finds out that it's Hope who will be the reporter.

During their time together, as past hurts resurface and hearts start to strongly beat again, can Hope and Chase move on from what they believe happened between them in high school? Will the embers of their relationship rekindle without them being burned again?

An utterly romantic love story told in flashbacks from both Hope and Chase's point of view, they are a likable couple who through their naivety saw a perfect relationship fall apart. Chase's lyrical prowess is dominated by memories of his love for Hope. Afraid to trust him, Hope endeavors to keep her distance but fate has a way of throwing them into situations that sees them falling for each other all over again. Throw in a sub-plot of a mafioso type business man and things really heat up.

Schiller has written another terrific tale filled with expectations, second chances and ultimately trust. The author has created believable characters, gave a rock star a human side and her easy style of writing makes this an effortless read. A highly recommend read.

Abandon All Hope is a story filled with misunderstandings, wrong decisions, and one hell of a happy ending. I absolutely love the way this book ends!

Chase knew he was in trouble the moment he heard Hope’s name. He may have tried to not want her, but it was obvious to everyone else he did, and once he realizes it…nothing holds back a determined man.

“Can’t you see I still love you? I’ve always loved you. Why can’t the past just stay in the past?”

Hope didn’t think her day could have gotten worse, but then she’s given an assignment she really does not want…interviewing Chase Hatton, the man who broke her heart on prom night. The man she still thought about, even though she’d never admit it. And the man she would fight a losing battle against her emotions for, because she didn’t want to risk being hurt again.

“She knew now, with conviction, whatever he asked of her she was powerless to deny him, and at that moment, she truly had no wish to deny him anything.”

This has a little suspense and a whole lot of heartbreaking romance. It’s filled with moments where Chase and Hope keep getting thrown together and put into situations that force their feelings for each other to the surface. And since they have a past together there are also several flashbacks that only add to the storyline.

My Favorite Moment: When Chase misses his cue on stage. The announcement and call he makes immediately following only served to make the moment more perfect.

Abandon All Hope a lovely tale of young love, misunderstandings and second chances. The story is told in flashbacks from both Chase and Hope's points of view. Because of all the flashbacks to their youths, the book has more of the feel of a New Adult versus an adult romance. There is some sex but it is sweet and tender. The secondary characters were great, (I adore Hal!). Unfortunately I felt there wasn't much of the rocker aspect to this book. The fact that he is a rocker seems incidental. It's more of a romance between a girl and a guy who happens to be a rocker. Don't get me wrong, this is a great story I just would have liked to experience less back story and more time on rocker side of things.

While this is the second book in the Rocking Romance Collection, having read the first book I can safely say both books are stand-alones and do not need to be read to understand each other. I will admit I was disappointed that this was not a continuation using one of the characters from the previous title. However, I digress. Abandon All Hope is an excellent read and I highly recommend reading this book, this series and author M.J. Schiller

Weird and didnt really have a cohesive story

OK. This was totally not a rock star romance. Yes Chase IS a rock star but sooooo little us actually spent talking about it, its like the author forgot. This book has about 3 different story lines that do t fit together that it is just dumb. Spoiler....
So Hope and Chase are together in high school and after someone who has lied to Hope before LIES to her again with some ridiculous story about Chase, Hope runs off?? Never asking him about it at all? Really? Then they meet again and it takes like over half the book for them to talk about it? Meanwhile Hope has a boyfriend who loves her but she barely thinks about him and pretty much leads both of them on because she is soooo confused? Give me a break! Then, really this boring story should just stop but it doesn't, the author apparently decided to throw in some crazy story about the mafia and Hope thinks she should seduce the mafia guy to get her big break? Sorry, she is NOT a likable character at all. Then Chase saves her from a gun battle.... Wtf? How does thus even belong? Why is it even in the book?
Hope is selfish and self righteous and just plain stupid. Don't bother reading this, you have better things to spend your money on.

Although usually not a fan of stories that alternate past and present, M.J. Schiller does it well in this Long Lost Love story.

Chase and Hope were childhood sweethearts and through misunderstandings on both their parts they lose touch and move on with their lives. In present time Hope, a writer, is called upon to interview a now famous singer, Chase. Being thrown together some years later unresolved feelings resurface almost immediately for Chase. He realizes he has never stopped loving Hope.

For Hope, being with Chase has made her remember some bad times as well as the good ones. She has moved on in love, but is her new love true??? Was Chase, her old love true?? Is her career really what she wants it to be?? What will she do to prove to her boss she is more than a fluff writer?? She has issues to figure out and Chase is right there to help her sort through the drama of her past and present life.

The epilogue ties this story up into a nice complete package. Thank You M.J. Schiller.

P.S. I was hoping this book would be about another of the band members from Trapped , specifically Roger. He definitely is book-worthy. Hint hint.

WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO WHAT A BOOK! 5 star read! I couldnt put down!! I literally read it in a day!! its a refreshing book thats different to other rock star romances!!
This is a quick easy read thats simply and yet beautifully written! Ideal for a sunday afternoon sit down with a cupper. I highly recommend it!
What i particularly love about this book is how the writer used flashbacks which gives incite in to what happened back when they were teens, and also it makes the book more interesting leading to the current day! Unlike a lot of rockstar romances, this book is packed with sweet romance mixed in with the crazy rOckstar life, mix that in with some humor, action and some great characters and you have one very good read! its simple how misunderstandings can tear people apart!!
**I WOULD LOVE A FOLLOW ON BOOK FOR THESE 2! everyone loves a rock star romance, I feel like there is so much more direction these 2 characters could go! PLEASE GIVE US MORE!!!

Genuine 5 star read! Pleasure to read! bargain buy!

ABANDON ALL HOPE is the simple love story of two people who were high school sweethearts, and then because of a misunderstanding, they went separate ways on the night of their senior prom. Chase Hatton is now a rock star; and Hope Creswell is trying to be a reporter/writer, but her first love is photography. Hope is assigned to do an article on the sensational celebrity. Thrown together, they must face their true feelings for each other. Does the candle still burn for both of them? Can true love prevail? Or has time erased the emotional connections?

This is a sweet and tender love story of second change love. Despite his money, Chase is a wonderful caring character. He’s the kind of guy all women are looking for--the kind of guy who helps a gal through good times and bad. The storyline has a bit of a twist at the end to heighten the action and suspense.

If you’re looking for a romance to put on your summer reading list, try ABANDON ALL HOPE.

This is a delightful tale. A yummy tale. A “maybe there’s a rocker out there for me” tale. Hope springs eternal.
Hope Creswell writes for a newspaper and is given the task to interview a big rock star - Chase Hatton. Of course, there is history between them, and they must figure out a way to get through her ride-along interview without any more heart-bruises than those they’ve already inflicted on one another.
M.J. Schiller brings her characters to life with both great writing and great humor. Abandon All Hope is endearing and fun and worth every moment spent within its covers. Very well done.

Abandon All Hope was a pretty fun & rockin' read! I admittedly took my time with this one, but please forgive me - I was kinda busy writing too! ;)

MJ creates an awesome mental picture with this book (as she does with them all!) and gives us a pretty romantic and engaging read that I don't think many will be able to put down if they can help it.

Chase & Hope have delicious chemistry and the kind of kismetic connection that some might find 'contrived', but I happen to love. It doesn't exist often in the real world, but it does happen - and when fate throws two people together again and again, one can't help but enjoy the way the world works. Great job, MJ!

Adorable. Fresh. Fun. Loved it!
M.J. Schiller has a talent at looking into the human side of rock stars. Abandon All Hope takes you to rocker Chase Hatton's childhood and the Hope he has always loved. It's warm and takes you into the life behind the scenes ... well not all of Abandon All Hope is behind the scenes. There are plenty of chances to get a peek at Chase's stage life and Hope's involvement there. Schiller's characters are real with flaws that make you believe them yet still want to cheer for them. I can't wait for the next installment in her Rocking Romance collection!

I really enjoyed the beginning of this second chance romance story. The ending was good but around about 80% in the book went a little weird before picking up again.

Chase and Hope were high school sweethearts before an unexpected event shook their lives up leading them on very different paths. A few years later Hope was assigned a job to interview Chase but will they be able to move forward from their pasts?

I liked the characters, both Hope and Chase came across as realistic for the most part.

I loved this! Another fabulous Rocking Romance. I am a sucker for second chances. From the beginning we know that Chase and Hope loved each other when they were young, but have been apart for eight years. Now they need to get over the past. I loved the rock star aspect, but this book is mainly about the characters and their emotions. I was completely sucked in and rooting for them. I just loved Chase and Hope. A must read if you love emotional romance, second chances, and/or rock stars.

I feel like I've read this book before...rock star who knew girl in high school who is now a reporter and they reconnect.... can't remember the name though. not that this version was bad, just that I've read almost the same book before.
the ending was a little too idyllic for me to stomach. maybe would recommend skipping the last chapter or epilogue or whatever it is.
