Nicknamed “Captain Peril” by his daughters, author B. Alan Goetz uses what he calls “Karma Slaps” or the painful lessons in life we experience to learn and grow. From choosing the wrong career three times to having more animals than humans in his house, Alan has made more errors than humanly possible in one lifetime, yet lives to tell the tale.
It took him 25 years to understand that Karma Slaps are really a call to change the course of your life for the better. They may be painful, but they’re nothing more than lessons we put ourselves through to learn and grow. With a combination of storytelling, common sense, practical advice and a bit of humor, Alan recounts many of the Karma Slaps he’s endured to use as examples for the reader to relate to and learn from.
But this book is not just about stories, it’s about reclaiming your life. Alan offers real and practical guidance from someone who’s walked the trail of tears you may find yourself on. One of his unique approaches uses what many people would call the greatest nuisance yet frequent source of entertainment in their life: the smartphone. By using your smartphone, you can capture a flash of inspiration, a thought, notion or understanding no matter when it happens or how busy you are.
Many times finding happiness is a matter of a couple of edits here and there instead of the major re-write Alan went through. But these edits help you determine which priorities to put front and center in situations you find yourself in, so you can act with awareness.
It’s time to think about your life from a new perspective, and with information you’ve always had but never tapped into. You need to put yourself first, and Alan will show you how to do it. After all, who better to show you than someone who’s had more than his fair share of Karma Slaps?
B. Alan Goetz is an author who experienced many of the challenges that occur in life: the confusion of parenthood, health issues, financial difficulties, fear of an unknown future, unfulfilling career choices, overwork, perpetual stress and the sense of hopelessness that accompanies these situations.
Over the years, Alan came to realize that life does not have to be as hard as we make it and many of our difficulties are created by the choices we make. But it’s not all bad. If we give ourselves a chance to turn our lives around one situation at a time, listen to our intuition and focus on what makes us unique, happy individuals, we will emerge with a sense of purpose that aligns with our unique gifts. Based on his experiences and the willingness to share them, Alan understands this intimately. His teaching style encourages each person find their own individual path to happiness and self-fulfillment.
“Karma Slap – Using Life’s Lessons to Move Forward” was released in August, 2013 and is based on the understanding that the painful situations or “Karma Slaps” we experience are really a wake-up call. They may hurt, but they’re nothing more than lessons we put ourselves through to alter the course of our lives for the better.
No one else looks at the world the way you do and because of this, there is no “correct” way to understand your life’s purpose. Alan’s clear, concise, down to earth style of communication is what makes him so effective at getting his message across, no matter what your beliefs may be.
Alan’s passion is to interact with those who have the desire to dig deep and understand why their challenges have driven them to search for more meaning and substance in their life.
Wow what a great book! The writing was very well done--I love how the author put in his humor, where most authors of this genre try to play it professional and end up with a dry, bland book. The author relates his own experiences into life lessons that people can learn from throughout the book, which makes the content of the book seem way more legit than other authors these days! Highly recommend it to anyone who's stuck in a rut with life and wants to make the absolute best out of it, without getting "karma slapped."
Insightful and fun to read, with really great down-to-earth, common-sense ideas for overcoming what seem like impossible life situations, but really turn out to be lessons to grow from. I really enjoyed reading it, and enjoyed the short exercises that make you really think about where you are in your life compared to where you could be with a little tweaking.
