The Blak Army’s power is growing as they sweep across Purga, intent on destroying anything and everything in their way. They have no compassion. No mercy. Everything is a target and with every day that passes, the army only gets stronger and more powerful.

The Kingdom of Roanoke is gone but the Terraquois nation survives. And now they are facing the Blak Army alone. Technology will meet the mystical power of the Terraquois in an epic battle.

King Rowan has fled to Edaeri to seek refuge and regain his strength but even on the remote floating city, there is no escape from Wilhelm. The Black Army quickly finds him there and attacks. Now Rowan has to survive an assault and protect a city at the same time.

The battle for Purga has begun and the only chance for survival is the unlikely pair of Rone Varlamagne and Keiara, a Rook prince and the daughter of the Terraquois chieftain. As Rone searches the ends of the earth for Keiara, he soon realizes that finding her is the least of his problems.

Together, everyone must fight for their lives as enemies become friends, friends become enemies, and the world keeps falling to darkness. Chaos is growing.

One more part of a legend. One more part of adventures, battles and becoming heroes. One more part of amazing story. It hold me pretty soon again. It brought even more intensive action, dangers, secrets and surprises. It's darker than the first one, more desperate, and brought further into the world encountering the threat of destruction and people figting against it.

I loved to read about the characters I've grown fond of, to get to know some new ones and to know better some old ones. I was excited to see how some of them meet each other and anxious to see some of them part. I enjoyed to read how they get in to the complicated situations and how they deal with it, how they deal with their inner battles and the battles on the outside world. I felt sadness, hope, joy, excitment, anxiety, anger and a lot more along with them.

This book was very emotional for me. Sometimes it was so intense that I was afraid to read further and had to stop. But I couldn't stay away for a long time not knowing what happens next so pretty soon I would start reading and eagerly turning pages again.

Awesome story. I'm excited to see what surprises and events would bring the book three.

I was given this book in exchange for a honest review (David Estes Fans and YA Book Lovers Unite! group and the author).

I really enjoyed reading this book. Although I haven't read book 1, I will definitely have to now. Roc has a great storyline that puts you in the center of the action and never leaves you wanting. I read it almost straight through except for a few hours of sleep. The characters are well formed and the detail to scene and characters was pretty good. Now I know writing is not so simply done and this isn't really a criticism but an observation; for a YA audience the writing is very appropriate but for the adult or avid reader I had a little trouble with the sentence structure at times. With a little more finesse this book would rate five stars. The story does rate five stars but that is the only reason I didn't give it five stars. For enjoyment this is a great book and fantasy fans should really enjoy it. I recommend this book to everyone looking for a little excitement to add to their reading. Great Read!

Fantastic continuation of the Histories of Purga series.

Book Two picks up some time after Keiara's transformation at the end of Book One. Rone, along with Asher and Fowler, are working their way up the side of a mountain and fighting a losing battle against the elements. But something tells Rone that he'll find Keiara at the top, so he pushes them to keep moving.

Meanwhile, Wilhelm's army of Blak soldiers has tracked down Rone's father, the king of Roanoke. Rone's friends, Darvian and Fiona, fight for him on the Island of Edaeri, and like Rone, they face the very real possibility that they won't make it out alive.

Fantasy and science fiction flow together naturally in Purga, complementing and contrasting in interesting ways, one of the characteristics I most enjoy about this series. The Rooks' nanobots can be formed into pretty much anything mechanical and can even be used to mend wounds, but they can't stand up to the insidious force called Blak. The Terraquois people can transform into animals and some can even control the forces of nature, but they too are helpless against the wave of evil that has been gathered against them. But there is hope. A long kept secret passed down through generations of Callers holds the key for destroying Blak and saving Purga from its clutches.

This story is jam packed with action, tension, and danger. The characters and the story flow naturally from where Book One: Dragon leaves off and set up for Book Three: Basilisk without leaving you hanging too badly. As in the previous book, the battlefields, the exotic locations, and the people are described with an attention to detail that brings them to life without overdoing it.

As for the quality of this book, I say it's excellent. The writing is smooth and well edited. The plot is well-developed and gripping. And the story comes to life in a very satisfying way.

I love this book and can't wait for Book Three: Basilisk. Although I usually avoid reading the "next book" excerpts at the end of stories, I found I could not resist reading the one at the end of this one. Looks just as exciting.

Anyway, I highly recommend this book and the series in general to fans of sci fi with a touch of fantasy mixed in (or vice versa).

Book Two: Roc continues the story of the world of Purga from Book One: Dragon. Rone and Keiara learn that their powers and destiny are no accident, and that they are the only thing standing between Wilhelm Coran and his total destruction of Purga.

I really enjoyed the book and seeing the continuation of the story. It really fills in the blanks and expands everything. A lot of the assumptions I had reading Dragon turned out to be misguided. Many of the characters and the world are further developed and fleshed out, and we learn the backstory of a lot of it. This story is much darker than the original. The world is in a dire situation as Wilhelm continues to destroy and take over. Even the Rooks are in danger of destruction.

The book continues to meld various genres together like science fiction (Rooks) and nature/fantasy (Terraquois). There is a little bit of romance (just a little) between Keiara and Rone, and some religious overtones (just who and what is Wilhelm, and are Keiara and Rone saviors?)

Some of the characters are a bit more rigid than I would like (Wilhelm, and the chief Tarvo) and I would have liked to see more development on those, but they serve their purpose ok. There was another character I didn't like and thought he was somewhat useless, but I suspect he may play a much bigger role in the third book. Relations between the two groups continue to be strained and Keiara and Rone have to fight both the evil in the world and their own people's prejudices.

This book was just as good as the first one and I am really looking forward to book three. It is a really interesting dynamic to do science fiction vs. fantasy. If you liked book one, then you won't be disappointed with this one.

What can I say, other than that I had been waiting to read this second installment of Rustin Petrae's "Histories of Purga" series and he did not disappoint.
Yes, it was a bit annoying that our heroine spent most of her time in the world between worlds, but once when that was handled, more action ensued (as if action was absent from any of this book before this point).
Which brings me to another reason why this book was so enthralling and awesome; none stop action. Every time you think something was over- another twist, another turn, and another hurdle was presented to our main heroes and heroine. I was amazed that I had the courage to put the book down once when I picked it up (if I didn't need sleep or to work, I would have finished it in one sitting). And Secrets were revealed. Everything will sure all come raveling together in the third book, I'm sure, as Petrae has a reason for everything.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Book two continued right where book one left off. Rone and Keiara both learn of their powers amoungst the war at hand. They have learned quickly how to combine their powers and become very powerful together. As the story unfolds, they both learn that their abilities are of something that has been written in the stars for many many years, only the right time would make the story come true about the three sentinals. Rone and Keiara were destined to meet long before Rone was saved by her in book one.

This book was a great read. I truly enjoyed reading it and cant wait to read the next book in the series. The way this book ends is a real cliff hanger. You are left anticipating what happens in the next segment of the story.

The WAR has begun …. CHAOS growing

I received this book as well as part of Goodreads’ ARR Program.

This second book, continues with the saga of Keira and Rone. I enjoyed this book as much as I enjoyed reading the first one. This story is much more action packed and still remained true to its plot. You almost can feel the tension and chaos in the narration.

I praise Rustin for staying true to the core. Beautifully written and engaging and how sci-fi and fantasy elements are well blended together. Definitely looking forward to the 3rd installment. I highly recommend this book if you love sci-fi and fantasy reads.

It was really awesome to write Book Two: Roc. I had a lot of fun getting back into the world of Purga. The characters face more hardships as Wilhelm continues his conquest of their world.

I was given “Book Two: Roc (Histories of Purga #2) by author Rustin Petrae. I had met the author on www.goodreads.com in a forum discussing his book. He needed someone to read his new book in exchange for an honest review. After a brief conversation about his book, I was willing to take on the task.

Since Roc is the second installment in a series, I was sent both books to read. This way, I was up to speed with what I was initially asked to read, Roc. I really did enjoy his first book, Dragon. I was very anxious to pick up Roc and follow Rone and Keaira in their journeys.

In “Roc” we pick up after the battle and Rone is on the hunt for Keiara. She has taken off in a flash of fury believing that Rone has been killed. With the help of Asher and Fowler, they have tracked her to a cave in the Polaris Mountains. He knows that he is the only one that is going to convince her that she needs to return back with him to fight the Rook’s.

After finding Keiara, he is shocked to find her in the condition that she is in. Once he is able to convince her that he actually is who he says he is, that he survived the attack, she is transformed and goes into a coma. Rone knows that he needs to get her back to her people so they can help her. Scared that he is going to lose the love of his life, he has only one thing on his mind…save Keiara!

After a rough trip back, Rone has Keiara returned to her tribe; he learns that there is more to what is wrong with Keiara. She has crossed over and is in the “world between.” While in the world between; she is learning powerful secrets that will aide her in her battle with evil. However, it is up to Rone to find her in that world and bring her back. Only problem is, while he is there, he also learns of a secret about himself. With the two of them together, they become a formable force with what waiting for them back in the real world.

In the meantime, the army of the Blak is building and destroying everything and everyone who is in its path. Wilhelm is shocked to learn that Rone hasn’t died. He becomes obsessed with trying to find Rone and kill him. Wilhelm knows that one way to get back at Rone is to see his fellow Rook’s transform into something evil. Using the magic of the dark mysterious one, Wilhelm starts to turn Purga upside down.

This book is great on so many levels. It has dragons, giant Roc’s, massive snakes, magic and evil. The most powerful part I took from these two books is how the author shows the inner struggles with overcoming prejudices. You have two tribes that can’t stand each other. They have been at war with each other for years. They think they know what it is about the other that they don’t like. It takes two teen-agers to fall in love with each to show everyone that they have been wrong.

The Purga series is a great read. There wasn’t a dull moment in these books. They author leads you on such a fast paced battle that leaves you wanting to know more. With the amount of jumping between characters could be confusing, however, the author did a great job at making sure you were never lost. Also the amount of history that is written into the story flows perfectly. Sometimes with as much that is going on as with these two books, you get overwhelmed with too much information. This is not the case with The Purga series. This story was written like a well choreographed dance of spider, snakes, dragons and Rocs.
