I read The Sin Collector last year, as well as Fortunato's companion novella Thomas. After reading each of these I was left craving more and needing the next book. Now that I've finished book 2, Sacrifice, I can confidently say "Bring on book 3!"

Throughout the time I read it, this book was hard to put down. Fortunato's writing has always grabbed me in, and she didn't fail me this time either. It was easy for me to jump back into the story even after so much time between book one and now. That's how much the story stuck with me. There's also a sophistication to her writing that I find some modern writers don't have. It's not an insult, only something that sets these books apart for me. The word choice of the characters is a nice mix of modern with more aged terms. This helps show the effects of a Collector's long life-span, as well.

As I said earlier, this story jumps right into things from where book one left off. The great characters I grew to love are back as well, yet this time, we get even more out of them. There's room for more development and more history to come out of the woodwork. This book was a little different in the sense that there was a bit less action, but more information and development of the trilogy as a whole. I can see that there was a lot of thought put into where this story is going, and I'm pleased with the direction it's taking.

There's so much I'd like to say about various characters, some events, etc but it'll be hard not to spoil it for readers, so I'll refrain. For fans of The Sin Collector, I don't think you'll be disappointed. For those new to the series, I hope you check out book 1 first, obviously, but you're in for a great story with some great paranormal (and "normal") characters. Also Lily, the main character, is still a badass!

I have to say I loved it. Liliana has matured quite a bit as she struggles to protect her new family. The focus of the story is less action but I still needed to keep turning the pages. This goes more into the mystery of Liliana’s past and why she has the ability to see auras. However it’s the small tidbits of prophecy that I find really interesting. Julia is a jewel as always and there is a host of new characters that you will come to love. Then there are the tender moments that brought tears to my eyes. I’m not telling. You’ll have to read it and see.

*Disclaimer: I did receive a free ARC of this book in order to review prior to release. This however did not influence my review in any way.*

After reading both The Sin Collector and Thomas, I had been eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series and Fortunato doesn't disappoint with Sacrifice! I was fortunate enough to get my hands on an advanced copy for review and I devoured the entire book in one sitting (Okay, it was really two but only because I had to drive home from work. I immediately opened the book back up because I just had to know what happened next!)

Sacrifice starts about a year after the first book and follows Liliana as she tries to give her family a "normal human" life, the problem is she and her family aren't normal nor human. She wants nothing more than to settle down and stay in one place with those she loves now that their enemies from the first installment are gone. But when other Collectors are suddenly killed it quickly becomes obvious that the life she's been hoping for isn't going to happen, at least not any time soon.

I loved the first two books, but Fortunato has really outdone herself with this one. It was a much smoother and polished book overall. There was just the right amount of tension to keep the reader turning pages, with enough of the mushy emotional stuff to keep the action from overwhelming the reader. Sacrifice is full of twists and turns that the reader doesn't see coming.

Reading through the book it dawned on me just how much Fortunato has grown as a writer, and it really showed in Sacrifice. There were a few times in the book that something was left a bit unexplained, such as the meaning of the Castus brand, or how the bad guys always found Liliana and her friends. But without knowing what the next installment has in store for us, I guess I'll just have to wait and see before making any final judgments on that.

Overall I was thoroughly impressed with Sacrifice and I cannot wait to see what happens next for Lily, her friends and family, and yes even the bad guys.

I read The Sin Collector and I read The Sin Collector:Thomas novella. Both of them solidify Jessica Fortunato as a force of nature, as an author. However, I was not prepared for how much this book was going to impress me.

Jessica Fortunato does a couple of things very well in The Sin Collector: Sacrifice. The first is that she has inhabited her novel with characters that have grown since the last time we met up with them. Now they are family, a small, tight-knit family. Lily has grown a lot in this one. In the first novel, though she was one hundred years old, she seemed a little juvenile, but also world weary, as if she had much experience in the pats of life that wear us out a little, like death. But she also seemed like she hadn't had much experience in relationships and how they are forged and maintained. In this book, she has become an adult, ready (but not fully) for the things that life has to throw at her. In addition to the old characters, she has introduced some brand new ones that are fantastic.

The second thing that Jessica Fortunato layers into her novel liberally but skillfully is theme. This is difficult to figure out for most authors, but nor for Ms. Fortunato. She adds themes into her stories with ease. This one is full of themes about family and what one is willing to do for them. It talks about sacrifice too, like why one must give things up and what one must find inside to do so.

I completely recommend this novel.

I received this book to review by Paranormal Romance & Authors That Rock. This is the second installment in a series of books and I did not read the first one, which put me at an automatic disadvantage. I highly recommend reading them in order because I found myself pretty darn confused. That said, it was still a pretty decent book with plot twist and a bit of romance to keep me intrigued. The characters are well developed. Overall the book is pretty well written. All though not my preferred genre, I always enjoy a good book about a kick ass heroine fighting for her family. If you enjoy a good paranormal read, you will most certainly enjoy this book.

Get caught up in a paranormal fantasy fiction story. This is the sequel to the trilogy of
The Sin Collector.
As book 1, I was evenly mesmerized by the second book where you get to know more about other sin collector friends of Olexander former mentor and now in a deep relationship with Liliana. A common enemy the castus and one woman Ariadne who always seems to be one step ahead of all others. Lilianas now growing family, her mortality phase, new telekinetic powers, secrets about a family history, marriage party and an unforeseeable prophecy to come true, would this mean the end of the world as we know of?? Such questions might revolve within your mind, while the story unfolds its mystery and packed action in front of you during Lilianas fight for her beloved family that is worth fighting for. In my point of view this was a five star book written by a five star novelist. I am eager for the third book and patiently await its arrival.

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*
After having read the first book in the series and having given it 5 stars because it really was an amazing book, I was quite looking forward to reading this second book. However, I cannot be more disappointed. Predictable plot, situations that have been written to death before, and lots of parallelisms with the Bible and a certain vampire book that must never be mentioned. An inmortal procreating a child with powers, and a powerful organization chasing them to destroy them? Come on... I know that Jessica Fortunato can do better.

It was a book that dragged forever and made me wish it would end soon. I really hope that the next one in the series is better than this one. Add to all of that editorial mistakes and totally wrong punctuation, as well as typos. It just drove me crazy. Quite a disappointing book.
