4 All for the GROVEL Stars

I had a really hard time getting into this until the 20% mark for some reason, but once I got going, I enjoyed it.

The writing was a little stilted and the story line wasn't the strongest, but the groveling...oh the groveling. It's like crack and I love it.

"I hate that I love you," she whispered as a tear leaked from the corner of her eye.

"God, I love when you talk like that."

description

Okay, stahp. Just stahp the damn thing.

I expected some major cry-fest for this book. What I got is annoyance and the bitter taste of disappointment.

Grace used to be Mitchell's girlfriend. Because Mitchell is an ass and due to some understanding that could have been avoided if they just decided to talk and listen instead of judging, they broke up. A year later,Mitchell wants Grace to be his girlfriend again. Grace was like "haha, sucker. No."

description

Then Grace's sister died, leaving her the guardian of a 7 months old baby. Mitchell came in to help and they decided to give it a shot but because this is just 75% of the book, they still have some hurdles to pass.

That's the gist of the story. In reality, I was disappointed because of the bland characters, too cliche lines and watered down drama.

The guy was very pushy. He keeps on pushing Grace to get back to him and I was itching to give him a kick in the nuts. And to top it all, when she discovered that Grace has a secret, he leaves her hanging because he was pissed. Like dafuq dude? You spent 70% of the book groveling and then you found out something, you decided to leave a sick baby and a heartbroken woman?

description

I feel like head-butting someone just to ease the irritation.

He learned nothing.
To begin with he was irredeemable, and then when heroine gives him a second chance, the moment she lets him in he fucks up.
Sorry, no. He doesn't love her. He was after her because she was the only one who got away.
After that epic amount of grovel he had done he had the audacity to try to punish her for her secret?
WHAT has he done for her to forgive him.
He needed to grovel for another 200 pages for the second fuck up.
He doesn't share HIS secret but heroine has to share her?
He's a controlling psychopath that no kids should be near him.
May be everyone deserves a second chance, but not a fourth chance.
It took him losing them AGAIN to figure out what he needs to do?
His cruel words to her and insinuations were unforgivable, yet he demanded forgiveness from heroine yet he doesn't have the decency to to show compassion for heroine?
He asked the heroine to be graceful and forgive that he insinuated her as a whore so he can be more abusive?
He was abusive. emotionally he was worse than heroine's father.
He didn't deserve the HEA, heroine should've gotten a restraining order.
Safety: she was celibate, him I'm not so sure. He kept on claiming he wanted her back straightaway, her father insinuated he was with other women but he was a lying piece of shit, so we can give THIS piece of shit a benefit of doubt.

I'm a little sick to my stomach.

The h is still reeling from the huge and nasty betrayal of her lover. A year ago he found a pregnancy test, thought it was hers and crossed lines no true hero and no real man should ever cross especially with a GF or lover. Throwing things like she was a liar and a cheat at her. Why would he ever want to have a child from someone like her, from someone with her background, blah, blah, blah? Turns out her mother had been blackmailing the h's father for millions (yeah sure) to hide the h's existence. Now, mom's a blackmailer and that's bad, but who broke the wedding vows, hmmm?

Anyhoo, once the H found out that the positive pregnancy belonged to the h's sister, he's been trying to grovel his way back home. To complicate matter, the H and h are in business together. The h, understandably, does not want to have anything to do with him. That resolve lasts all of about 5 minutes. Their passion is too strong... Blegh.

Little sis ends up dying and the h gets the baby. Backstory backwash from the h's mother and father adds an added dimension to the nastiness. Bad, bad parents.

The H finally grovels his way back, but gets angry at the h and goes stone cold on her. With an emotional bully like him, I don't see much of HEA.

Okay the hero was a jerk who did not deserve the heroine. They were together two years and he found a pregnancy test and lost his mind on her and said hateful and bike things to her. So she moved out and hasn't really had anything to do with him for a year. He has been trying to get her back for a whole year but it never really clarifies if he was celibate or not. I felt like he was but I wish it had said. Her sister does and she is guardian of the baby and the hero has finally got her to marry him so she can keep the baby. It was her sisters test he saw. There is an evil Godfather that hated the heroine because his Gordon is too good for her. The godfather is the heroines Father in Secret with the h's slutty mom who blackmailed him. He was married when he had the affair. There is a lot more going on and when the hero finds out he treats the h horribly again. Cruel and nasty is the best way to describe him. There was an HEA but I really didn't buy it. I wish he hadn't been such a jerk. It was a good book just didn't like the hero that much. Even at the end. I would never trust him again if I were the h.

I'm so upset that I had to come here, write this review, to try to get it out of me.
My dear GR friends recommended me this book telling that on it, the hero grovels a lot. I had such high expectations..

Grace had a terrible childhood. Her mom, Vicky, had an affair with a married rich man and tried to catch him getting pregnant. But her trick didn't work and she didn't get the rich man. Vicky always blamed Grace for everything that went wrong with her life, but despite all that, Grace managed to create a good life for herself. She left home, went to New York and became a successful business woman.

She also got herself a hot and rich boyfriend, her partner, Mitchell, aka - The Asshole. They lived happily for two years, and one day, he found a positive pregnancy test at their appartment. He thought it belonged to Grace. He thought she was trying to trick him into marry her. They fought. He humiliated her, spoke horrible things and never once let her explain herself. The test belonged to her sister.

One year later, Mitch continues to stalk Grace, asking, demanding her to listening to him, forgiving him and accept him back.

I was wary of him during the whole book. He was pushing, and pushing. And when Grace's sister dies and she becomes responsible for he little niece, he storms in her life trying to take control of everything.

Despite everything, I thought Grace as a very strong woman. She had so much on her plate! Her sister died, she had a child to take care of, she had a crazy and abusive mom to control, she had to take care of her business and she had to protect her heart to be hurt all over again. There is so much a person can take!

When she decides to give him a second chance, he discovers the secret about her father and has the audacity to be pissed at her! Actually he "abandoned" her with a sick baby, she was numb with so much heartache for the baby and for herself. I was crying for her!! And Mitchell?? He was very angry, saying that she didn't trust him and he coudn't have a relationship with her like that!

OF COURSE YOU DUMBASS! YOU BROKE HER HEART IN THE FIRST PLACE! NOW YOU WANT HER JUST TO TRUST ALL HER PROBLEMS WITH YOU??? YOU WHO DIDN'T LET HER EVEN EXPLAIN THAT THE PREGNANCY TEST WASN'T HERS?? YOU WHO LISTENED TO EVERYONE BUT HER???!! YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!

I didn't believe in his so called love for her. It was just an obsession, IMO. And I didn't believe in their HEA. Not even a little bit. But I loved the baby, Evie was the best thing on this book. The stars are hers.

I'm sorry girls, but it didn't work for me.

Ele estava forçando a barra demais.

This was freaking awesome!!
I dont want to jinx myself but ive struck gold this month, picking up bks with super cool super strong heroines! And on top of that I finally found a good grovel bk after so loooong! Thanks so freaking much for Amazon grovel discussion forum and the individual that rec'd it ! I stalk that grovel discussion like a sociopath! Hahaha!

There is one quote that will show you why i loved the h in this bk... "Don’t placate me!” she bellowed. “Go find a damsel in distress because I’m not it. I’ll never be that girl. Ever since I was old enough to understand that my mom didn’t care about me I learned to fend for myself and that won’t change so if you want to throw a fit because I won’t come to you with my problems- tough!”

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !! Love it!!

Very HP/soapy-esque read. Mitchell and Grace were an item for two years when he sees her sis’s pregnancy test, and accuses of her of trying to trap him. (says some shitty things) The book opens a year later with them coming face to face for the first time in a year.

This part is a little hazy. At the beginning he states that she wouldn’t take his calls, emails, and avoids him. He also says he knew quickly after the accusation that he’d made a mistake. Later he says something about taking a year to get the nerve up to confront her. So... 🤷‍♀️ Also, I was under the impression both were celibate during the split, but the “villain” godfather/mentor says he dated others. I can’t remember her actually straight out asking, so I guess we assume they were both good. 🤷‍♀️ Regardless, there’s no OW/OM drama, and Mitchell is DEDICATED to getting Grace back… like crawling on his knees, begging outside her door, taking out a billboard, and playing a boombox above his head.

My issue was that I sort of felt like Grace used him, and never would’ve opened the door had she not needed his help, and it took a little of the wind out of my sails. It also reads like he was boyfriend goals until that one argument. He definitely was a jerk, but he didn’t hit, lie or cheat on her, so IMO her reaction was OTT. But, I did like that she didn't just lay down when he initiated the HP-H bulldozer maneuver.

Bottom Line- I like good grovel, but I read A LOT of asshole romance, and I didn’t feel like the crime deserved the time… so I got over it, and it started to drag. It was enjoyable, but no heavy feels for me. The ending was quite abrupt. We really needed a epilogue.

4.75⭐️!

Gosh.. the drama and the constant battle of wills between the MC’s were so good.
And they way he groveled..I’m still salivating my friends.

I think I should introduce hero Mitchell to some of HP heroes who doesn’t even know the word groveling. If for nothing else you should read this book for him. And heroine Grace, she was his perfect match. She made him sweat, pull his hair and grind his teeth. She also later apologized and begged when the mistake was her’s. Like I said perfect match!
I loved their passionate story, there wasn’t even a moment where I was bored.
No epilogue which was quite sad when you think about it and the ending was a bit rushed. I wanted hero to grovel a little more because he hurt her so much…again!

Safe and recommended.

-second chance.
-angst, drama, passion.

Warning: physical and verbal abuse
This was a difficult one to rate. I enjoyed the angst very much and how hard the hero tried to make up for the terrible things he said to the heroine when they broke up. (He thought the heroine was pregnant and was trying to trap him into marriage – just like her mother had done. Turns out it was the heroine’s sister who was pregnant, but heroine won’t forgive the hero.)

The story opens with the hero still trying to grovel and the heroine stridently declaring her independence from the hero. Then her sister dies leaving the heroine holding the baby. Her alcoholic mother shows up to take custody of the baby away from the heroine, and her bio dad keeps making threats. Heroine has to reach out to the hero for help and the story goes from there.

There is the usual hope of happiness – they announce their engagement in Paris, heroine finds a nanny/housekeeper, etc until the black monent:

They eventually work it out, but I lost a hope for a healthy and sane HEA for these characters as the author showed us how they actually dealt with adversity in real time.

Hero lapses into verbal abuse or the silent treatment when things don’t go his way.

Heroine lapses into control-freak workaholic ways.

She carries around a lot of shame about her upbringing and she continues to take her parents’ physical and verbal abuse. Why she never called the cops on her mother when she was physically assaulting her pregnant sister is beyond me. I understand that is a huge move for victims of constant abuse, but since the author never had heroine stand on her own against her abusers, I can only conclude she’s still not in a good place.

It’s great but heroine had nothing to do with these victories.

So yes, I believe the H/h love each other and will have an HEA as long as things go okay. I do wish the author had sent them to therapy and we could have had an epilogue a few years later.

h tries to hide her background from her partner, lover and wealthy businessman H. H's godfather is a creep and fills H's head with nonsense so H gets suspicious. H finds a pregnancy test and assumes it is the h's. H goes crazy and says some very hateful things. h leaves H. About a year later, H tries to repair damage. Not a great grovel, but a mini-grovel. h took forever to forgive H.

The hero was really idiot from start to end.
After he dumped the heroine the first time because he thought she was pregnant and he thought she deceived him, he spends one year trying to win her back.
Sadly when he eventually succeeds, he finds out she lied to him about her real father so he blocks her out again.
Eventually I think she should have dumped him for good.
Such a deucebag.

3 1/2 stars rounded up. Very much like a Hqn Desire or Blaze (whichever has typically older, more experienced, independent heroines).

Much of the book is the H trying to get the h back after behaving like an ass when he thought she'd trapped him with a pregnancy (she wasn't even pregnant). That's always fun :)

The heroine comes from a very abusive background and is ashamed of it and therefore secretive. That allows her evil parents to cause lots of trouble. I do think we were left with some unanswered questions about the parents and they were presented very one dimensionally, but these shorter Hqn types tend to leave some loose ends and go for black and white when it comes to side characters.

The logic fail of her believing she could marry the H without revealing her father was a bit much, but she did have quite a bit on her plate in a short period of time.

Other than the fact that the author apparently doesn't know that there are 4 different kinds of past tense, each with sub types, this book was pretty good. Kind of a Harlequin Presents type book without being an HP. The only thing I didn't really like story wise was the way the hero, after his massive book long grovel, kind of gets pissed at her at the end and totally turns her away. Just seemed odd unlikely with the way that the author had set up his motivations and personality throughout the book. A pretty decent read for what I understand is a first book.

This book was pretty much all grovel. Grace the h was amazing and had every reason to be angry and mistrustful of her ex Mitchell. At the start of the book, they've been apart for a year. He is slowly beginning to work his way back but she isn't giving him any chance to hurt her the way he did before. I'm not sure why he waited a full year before he came at her hard. You'd think, waiting a day would be too long but whatever. We get to enjoy Mitchell doing everything he can to get the woman he loves back. He soon realizes that without her trust, his words mean nothing. So he works hard to show her. And show her he does. He turns into the perfect boyfriend. Until one last secret that Grace has been keeping makes Mitchell throw a huge Mantrum and after all his hard work, after he finally earns her trust back, he leaves and ignores her. Mitchell, you stupid, stupid man.

They finally get their HEA but only after Grace holds his feet to the fire and makes him prove himself. I really loved the fact that this author did not have her h cave at the first flutter of hormones. She had cajones and stood up for herself and her family.

If you love a good grovel with a tough as nails heroine, you will really love this book. I am giving it 3 stars because I had to drop a star for Mitchell's Mantrum near the end of the book.

Wow, if you ever want to read a book with a truly remorseful Hero, here it is.

The story opens one year after the couple has broken up. They were in a loving relationship, or so the heroine thought, when the Hero accuses the heroine of truly sh***y behavior, walks out and basically implies he won’t be there in her time of need.

The heroine is no doormat she has a spine of steel and has always had to fend for herself. She has not been taking the calls or email of the Hero her ex, so he resorts to going to the same social function where she is, and he pursues her from there.

I liked that the heroine did not take any crap from the Hero. She wouldn’t allow him to treat her without respect. I liked that she was independent and didn’t need him to make decisions for her. And he knew it too.

Both of them were celibate in their year apart although the Hero thinks the heroine has started dating someone else when the book opens, and he is jealous as hell!

2 ⭐⭐ - Meh!
=================

What a piece of shit!

Once she left New York he wouldn’t be reminded of what he’d done and he would move onto someone else.

“Explain?” she exploded, throwing up her hands. “Explain what? How much you look down at me because of my background? How you never intended our relationship to go anywhere because of my mother? What is there left to talk about? I think that about covers it.”

“Women have begged to be the one to provide me with a child. You’re the last person I’d consider having my child. I’ll fight for full custody. If you contest custody I’ll take away the boutique.”

“Ray warned me about this,” he hissed and swept everything off the vanity. Everything crashed to the floor and she jumped. “How could you do this to me?” He slay her with a look of betrayal and disgust. “You’re just like your mother.”

His mouth turned into a sneer. “I know that she deliberately gets pregnant to blackmail men. She’s an alcoholic whore.”

“If you plan on stringing me along, think again. I’d rather see you in court than let my child have you as a mother.”

She gave him HELL!!! And I loved it.
I'm not a fan of books that take forever for the H/h to be together... I actually like insta love.... Well this book wasn't insta love, the book begins with the H/h broken up and he is groveling to get back with her. No cheating on either side he just says some major dick-ish stuff to her and she justifiably leaves. Well our h is no shrinking violet, she lick her wounds privately but gets on with her life and is doing the damn thing. He's begging and begging her and she's not easily taking him back. There is sex so don't worry (not a lot but some) and she still doesn't immediately give in. I loved her, she wasn't bitter just knew what she wasn't. There is more to the story and it's a fairly quick read so enjoy.

WOW! I was caught off guard with this one! I didn't expect. To like this one. It was the next book in my library to read.i started off as usual by reading the first few pages to see if it caught my attention. I just loved it! It was just like an old Dynasty soap opera. Grace was so strong, sexy, and determined to make it work. She took on some crazy people in the book. Mitchell was a hot alpha male, he just wouldn't give up on Grace. I was crying so often throughout this story. I just loved this story. I was so hoping for more. I hope the author decides to write a part 2 or at least give me an epilogue. Maybe she will write a story about Amy or Landon.

3.75 stars. The story was nice and here was one heroine I liked. She was strong and mature, even with a abusive childhood that could’ve put any girl into depression. I like that even with the hero’s relentless persuasion for her she still held back on her affection to him. However I just wish there was about more of a backstory on their relationship that would’ve turned up the angst of it more.

Definite recommend!

4 1/2 stars. I liked this one. Good strong characters, lots of angst, no easy forgiveness--for the most part. I felt the ending was a bit rushed. I probably would have given it a solid 5 stars if the ending conflict was not resolved so quickly, or if there was an epilogue.
