I really like the twist here which is where the entire of Sheltered hinges on. Doomsday preppers console themselves with their preparation for a worldwide cataclysm would be enough to ensure survival. These people are prepared for any external threats, with their weapons, bunkers and canned goods. What they don't prepare for is the threat that comes from within and often they are blind to it. That is the concept of Sheltered.

Brisson and Christmas appear to be capable creators. I don't know much about their respective bodies of work but I don't think this is their first work. The concept is well formed and it is a lot more polished than I expected. Brisson has done his research on the American subculture of doomsday preppers quite well. He even includes a 101 article on the subject.

This is a unique, promising story that is an interesting twist on the well-trodden genre of the apocalyptic graphic novel.

This is a solid opening volume, throwing the reader in the thick of it almost right off the bat.
A pre end-of-the-world take on Lord of the Flies in a sense. Looking forward to reading Vol #2

#1 – “Take the rest of these [cans of beans] down to the bunker and add them to our inventory list before you go out.”

Excellent. Starts with a bang. Easily Worth the investment in time it took to read. Ending is somewhat obvious.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have to say that I really enjoyed this pre-apocalyptic romp! Imagine being on a "compound", securing it and gathering all the supplies you will need for the next several years. Fans of Doomsday Preppers would love this place! But, the teenagers are definitely out of control!

I thought the story was well-presented and definitely left me wanting to read the next installment in the series. The artwork was also well done, but it was the story that drew me in and never let me go! I don't want to say much more and add any spoilers! Pick this one up for a thrill ride!

first, I have an issue with vulgarity so that worked against the book, second, it was children with the foul mouths, so that worked against it even more. sadly though, that is the world we live in so I did not allow that to affect my rating, so much

the story is an interesting twist, and I am actually intrigued on how things will play out. a youthful homicidal control freak? that has some pitfalls waiting to happen. then add in the fact that they rule over a "colony of youngsters who are all waiting for some volcano to go cosmically apocalyptic...yes, I am intrigued indeed. what is the true factor for the little killer to do what they do?

Ok so there is a group of preppers called safe haven, they are far off the grid and they like it that way. They are expecting a new shipment of solar panels to help make them even more prepared for what's coming. Ok so within this group of preppers there is a boy who thinks the end is coming sooner than anyone knows and he wants to be as ready to survive it as possible, his plan? Get rid of the parents so the kids have a better chance of survival, more resources less mouths... Ok, so the kids all get hypnotized by his glorious ideal and well bad shit happens, oh yeah did you forget about those solar panels? shit gets real and also hits the fan...

Great premise, cool art, delightfully dark and disturbing. Characters haven't all quite popped yet, and one major decision -- the kids all going along with Lucas' insane plan -- was never explained to my satisfaction.

Reminds me of Lord of the Flies.... only everyone's paranoid about the apocalypse.

Survivalism paranoia goes horribly wrong in this dystopian comic. The kids are not alright.

This is a brutal, frightening, realistic look at how far people will go to ensure their survival. The art work is stark and beautiful, even when it's a little horrific.
